A Veela Family
Chapter 4: Being Looked After
Harry woke to the smell of breakfast. His eyes blinked open to find Lucius and Draco standing at the end of the bed with a large tray of food in Lucius' hands and them looking at him with nervous smiles.
Lucius came round and sat next to him and Harry smiled as Draco sat on his other side.
"Good morning, Harry," Lucius said.
"Morning," Harry said quietly as he sat up against the headboard.
"We had the elves make breakfast for us to share in bed. We tried making it ourselves but… well, it didn't exactly go to plan. So they made it instead," Draco said, seeming a bit glum that it didn't work as they originally wanted it to.
Harry just smiled at his kit and kissed his forehead gently.
"This is perfect, Draco, no need to worry. If you want to learn to cook properly then I can always teach you," Harry said.
"Really?" Draco beamed excitedly.
"Of course, I actually enjoy cooking," Harry said, beaming at the thought of the time spent with his baby.
Lucius tapped the tray with his wand and it divided into 3 smaller trays, each with a plate of food and a glass of juice on it, and one tray moved to hover over each of their legs.
They ate in a comfortable silence, and it was great.
But at the same time Harry couldn't stop his mind from whirling.
He was a Horcrux.
He had a piece of the Dark Lord's soul in him.
He had to die.
He had to leave his mate and kit.
He had to leave his baby.
Again.
Though more permanently this time.
"Harry," Lucius said gently, and Harry looked up at him to find worry and sorrow in his pale eyes that made Harry's heart ache, "We'll find a way. I promise. Severus is sending all the books he has found, and I have written to the Veela nation for help also. And the goblins. We will find something, anything,"
"Yes, mum, we'll find something," Draco said firmly, and the words made Harry's heart flutter.
He struggled to believe it, but he nodded anyway, wanting to get his mind off it completely… Though that was rather unlikely to happen anytime soon… and talk about anything else.
"So, erm, where are we?" Harry asked.
"Severus' private home. No one knows he is Lord Prince other than the three of us now. And no one knows he owns the Prince properties, or where they are because they are all under Fidelius and multiple other wards. You were able to get in as my mate with the Veela magics, but he has properly keyed you into the wards now. No one else can get in, though. We are very safe here," Lucius said.
"Good," Harry nodded, "And where is Narcissa? In my… vision He said that she was missing, too,"
"She is in one of the Malfoy properties in France. She is also very safe, under Fidelius and other wards. And the house elves have been removed from the Manor also, they are split between here and the other Malfoy properties for now, with orders not to answer any calls apart from the ones from myself, Draco, or Narcissa," Lucius explained, "I haven't told Narcissa about you being my mate yet, or that our marriage has dissolved, but she knows something has happened and we escaped for our safety until the war is over. I will tell her when we are properly safe and she can go and do what she pleases then,"
Harry nodded again, unsure of what else to do. What did one talk about with their family? He certainly didn't know.
He was glad that Narcissa and the house elves were safe, though.
A house elf popped into the room and removed the trays, "Thank you," Harry said, causing the house elf to tear up before popping away.
"You don't need to thank them, you know?" Lucius said, and Harry looked at him with wide eyes.
"I know. But you know how I was raised, Lucius. I can't not thank them," Harry said sternly.
"I'm sorry," Lucius muttered in understanding.
"I know," Harry sighed, "I can't help it. They deserve appreciation for all the work they do for us. It's not easy, even with the aid of magic, I'm sure. The least they deserve in recompense is a 'thank you'. I know I would have appreciated that once in a while. At least,"
"Mum, do you want to go to the Quidditch World Cup next summer? It is in France, and we can stay in Paris or somewhere for a few days to show you around the magical places," Draco said, trying to move them past the tougher topics of conversation.
"I would love to go, Dragon," Harry said, smiling at his kit lovingly.
"Then I will get everything booked for us," Lucius said, smiling at his family, "How many games do you want to watch, Harry?"
"Erm, how many games do you both usually watch? Or want to watch?" Harry asked uncertainly.
"We usually watch the semi-finals and the final, so that would be three games. But we can just go for the final if you would like to. And as Draco said we can stay in Paris, or Calais or somewhere for a little while also, and look around the magical districts, make a proper holiday out of it," Lucius said.
"That sounds good to me," Harry whispered in awe at the idea of a holiday with his family, in France no less.
Although there was a part of him worried that he wouldn't get to experience it.
But he tried to take his mind off that thought.
It was difficult, though, as it was just there, niggling at his mind.
He had to die.
"Do you think Uncle Sev will come this time? I know why he didn't last time, but he came with us every time before," Draco said.
"I will certainly be asking him, Draco. That is if you are okay with him coming, Harry," Lucius said.
"Of course. He is your family. It wouldn't be a family holiday without him, especially if he has gone with you before," Harry said gently, smiling slightly at the smiles he was given by his two favourite men.
Lucius kissed his forehead and he melted into the touch, needing something to ground him.
"Do you need anything, Harry? Are you feeling okay?" Lucius asked, concerned.
"I'm fine," he really wasn't, but physically he was okay, "All I need is the two of you,"
"Are you sure? I can run you a bath if you would like me to. I have some healing salts which might help with any lingering pain in your chest, they are infused with lavender and chamomile also to help you to relax," Lucius said, fretting over Harry.
"Lucius, I'm fine relaxing right here. There's no need to burden yourself with looking after me, I'm fine," Harry said.
"Harry, you're not, nor will you ever be, a burden. You are my mate, and I want to look after you. I want to love you, and protect you, and spoil you, and look after you, Harry. You have been hurt, you are healing, I want to look after you. It isn't a burden. You aren't a burden. Let me look after you, Harry," Lucius said gently, taking Harry's hand in his and giving it a comforting squeeze.
"No one's looked after me before," Harry whispered.
"I know. But we are going to change that," Lucius said.
"Yes, mum, we're going to look after you now," Draco said, both determined and fierce in his statement.
The love in their eyes just made Harry's heart and stomach flutter like never before.
He felt safe.
And loved.
And amazed.
Why would they want to look after him?
Wasn't that his job?
To look after them?
"I… I'm supposed to look after you," Harry said.
"Yes, but we're supposed to look after you, too, Harry. Family looks after each other. We will protect each other. Love each other. Look after each other. There is no one person doing everything. We all do everything. I know that none of us really know what a proper family is. But we can work it out as we go. I think the main thing, though, is helping each other," Lucius said.
"O-okay. Erm… I would like a bath, please," he said quietly, hesitating slightly.
"Okay, I will go and run it, then," Lucius said, kissing the back of Harry's hand and leaving walking into the en-suite.
Draco leaned into Harry and Harry wrapped his arms around his kit, kissing his hair gently.
"Are you okay, mum?" Draco asked, worry in his voice.
"I… I will be," he hoped, although it was a rather distant one, "Are you okay, baby? You look like you haven't been eating, or sleeping, and-" he was cut off by Draco squeezing him a bit tighter and trembling slightly.
Harry brushed his fingers gently through his kit's silky hair and tilted his head up so Draco was looking at him.
And Harry hated the fear in his eyes. It tore at him to see those beautiful eyes so filled with fear, and pain, and sadness.
"I… I'm getting better. Being here, away from… Him… It's better here. And with you here now, too, that is good. But then you were hurt and I was so scared that I was going to lose you before I even really had you… There was so much blood. And now there's the… But we'll fix it, right? Together… We'll fix it. And we'll end the war. And we'll be safe… We'll be a family," Draco said, his voice shaking.
Harry kissed his forehead and held him closer, "Of course we'll fix it, baby. I'm not going anywhere, I promise,"
He had to believe it. For Draco.
He couldn't leave Draco.
He didn't want to leave Draco.
He wanted to spend time with his kit.
He wanted to see his life.
He wanted to live.
And Merlin did he have so much to fight for now.
Truly.
He had his mate, and his baby boy, and hopefully more babies in the future, but that was a distant thought because he couldn't even consider bringing a child into the world right now. Especially with the horcrux in him.
No.
He had to fight.
He had to find something.
Because he wasn't leaving his baby behind.
Not again.
No. They will find something. They will stop the war.
They will be a family for a long bloody time if Harry had anything to say about it.
Lucius entered the room again and smiled sadly at the two of them, making his way over, "Are you both okay?" he asked, concerned.
"We will be," Harry said, and Draco nodded against Harry's chest.
"Good," Lucius said, "Your bath's ready, Harry,"
"Okay, thank you," Harry said, smiling at the older man.
"My pleasure,"
Harry slowly let go of his kit, placing a kiss on the soft hair again, and he stood from the bed shakily, Lucius helping him stay steady.
"You okay?" Lucius asked.
"Mhm," Harry nodded, breathing deeply after a few moments as he stepped away from his mate and started walking towards the en-suite.
He stopped, though, and turned towards his mate, "Can you stay with me?" he asked nervously, a blush darkening his cheeks, but he needed his mate close to him.
Lucius smiled at him, "Of course," he nodded and he followed Harry into the bathroom, closing the door behind them.
There were a few candles lighting the space, and he could smell lavender, chamomile and other plants also. The bath had a good amount of water in it, and he could see petals floating on top of the bubbles, including lavender and chamomile ones. It was a very soothing atmosphere and his stomach flipped in happiness as he took it all in.
"Is it okay?" Lucius asked nervously.
"It's perfect," Harry said, kissing Lucius on the cheek, "Thank you,"
"My pleasure," Lucius beamed.
Harry slowly started taking off his clothes, his back towards his mate, and got slowly into the bath. It was the perfect temperature for him, and was indeed very relaxing as he leaned against the back of the tub, where Lucius had rested a small, waterproof pillow.
He sighed happily as Lucius sat on the floor next to the tub and held the hand Harry leaned on the edge of the bath.
"How are you feeling, Harry? Really?" Lucius asked quietly, worry in his eyes and voice.
"Physically, okay. I think," Harry said, smiling at his mate.
"Even after the birth dream, I have heard that it can sometimes take a few days to recover from that? And… I mean you were hurt yesterday, Harry. Is your chest okay? Do you need a pain reliever?" Lucius said, and Harry thought that he seemed unsure about how to handle things, or something similar.
But he supposed they were all getting used to… well, everything.
"My chest is fine, Severus is a wonderful healer and potions Master. If I need a pain reliever I will… I will try to let you know. And, I mean, other than a cramp every now and then I am all healed from the dream, I promise," Harry said.
"Okay," Lucius breathed, "But if that changes you will let me know?"
"I will try," Harry said, honestly.
"Good," Lucius kissed Harry gently then.
It only lasted a few seconds but it made Harry feel all kinds of… amazing.
"You are so beautiful, Harry," Lucius whispered as he rested his forehead against Harry's.
"I'm nothing," Harry muttered, his voice hitching slightly.
"You're everything," Lucius said, somehow his voice was both gentle and fierce, and he kissed Harry again. Longer this time.
And it just about took Harry's breath away.
Who knew you could feel such love from a simple kiss?
Although his past experiences with kissing hadn't been great. They were… bland, boring, there was no spark there. No nothing.
But with Lucius it was like everything made sense, everything felt so real, so magical, so amazing. He felt like fireworks were going off inside of him and even the slightest of touches. He felt like he really was everything to this man.
It was weird.
The whole situation was weird.
He had a baby who was older than him.
His mate was someone he used to fight against, although, that was more of a forced situation than anything, on both sides.
And he was in love with his mate despite only being together for about a day now.
It all seemed very quick.
And yet, it was perfect.
It felt right.
It felt like home.
And he had never had a home before, not really.
He felt happy, despite everything else going on.
Truly happy.
And they wanted to look after him.
For some reason.
"I love you," Harry whispered nervously.
"I love you, too," Lucius whispered back, beaming as he kissed Harry again.
He was home.
And he had a family.
And in that moment, that was all that mattered.
Hiya, how are you all?
I hope you enjoyed the chapter, it took a little longer to write than I thought it would, although I got a bit distracted somewhere in there. But nonetheless, it is done now. More to come in a few weeks or so. So, what are your thoughts? Where is this story heading? What is going to happen with the horcrux in Harry? Are they going to find a way? Or are they going to have to resort to stopping his heart and hoping they can restart it? When will Draco find his mate? It won't be any time soon, but it will happen, eventually. And who is his mate going to be, I wonder? How will Sev fit into the story? Will he build himself a family? How will things go down with Hermione, the Weasleys, everyone else? I would like to know your thoughts if you would like to share them.
Also, if I were to set up a Spotify and make playlists for all of my stories would anyone be interested? They would include songs that remind me of the story in some way, give away little easter eggs for what is to come in the story with some of their lyrics, or songs that just fit. It will be a very eclectic mix of songs because I listen to a variety of music. But I have so many songs that make me think of my stories and I want to share them, if people are interested anyway.
I also have a Facebook group called Maraudering_Paige which you are all welcome to join if you would like to and are able to. It is where we can talk about Harry Potter, fanfics, life, share memes, and more. It is also where I have an update schedule of sorts and will be keeping you up to date on what I am working on, both with original stories, fanfics, and with everything else I do and want to do. So if you are interested in joining then I am more than happy to accept you into the group.
I hope you are all having an amazing day!
Kind regards,
Paige xx
