Hey everyone! This next chapter is going to be follow Grant's group shortly after they leave Atlanta with Kayla Watts. I'll probably be doing one or two more of these sort of interlude chapters in between the actual episodes of the show, until both of the storylines intersect in between season 2 and 3. In the mean time though, stay tuned! I have a new method of transcribing the show that I think works well, so I should hopefully be able to push a new chapter out every two weeks or so. Stay tuned and enjoy!

A week or so after encountering Kayla Watts in the old nursing home, Dr. Grant's group is on the move through the forest, doubling back to where they last saw Billy nearly a month ago. Their truck had also ran out of gas a few days ago. Grant had a walking stick and was leading the group with Kayla. Nima and Gerry followed not far behind them. Grant kept his eyes on the forest, scanning for walkers or dinosaurs that might try to ambush them. Kayla walked closer next to him and Grant gave her a small smile.

"It's a shame about your helicopter. We sure could've used it to look for Billy," Grant said. Kayla nodded and laughed slightly.

"Yeah. Not much jet fuel around these days. Then again, a helicopter'd attract a lot of unwanted attention. Living, dead, or otherwise," she said.

"That works for me. Not a big fan of helicopters," Nima said. Gerry laughed and nodded in agreement.

"Besides, we can't really get a good look in the woods from the air. Anybody moving around down here is gonna look like a deadhead from above," Kayla said. Grant sighed. His gaze narrowed as he spotted something on the ground. It was a footprint. A very big one.

"Hold up a second," he said. He got down on one knee and examined the print.

"This is—"

"Tyrannosaur," Kayla finished Grant's sentence. Nima and Gerry had worried looks on their faces as they glanced at each other and at the footprint.

"How'd you know that?" Grant asked.

"You ain't the only dinosaur enthusiast here," she said. Grant rolled his eyes a bit.

"What's the play here, Grant?" Kayla asked. He was quiet for a second before answering. There were several more footprints headed into the woods.

"Well, we aren't going that way, that's for sure," Grant said, pointing in the direction the footprints were headed.

"I say we head norte. Up that hill," Nima said, gesturing to the steep hill to the left of them. Gerry looked at her with concern.

"Are you sure your leg's ok to make that climb? It's only been a month since—"

"I'm fine, Gerry. My leg's healed enough. We shouldn't wait around here long," Nima cut Gerry off. Kayla shrugged and turned to look at the hill.

"Works for me. We got a climb ahead of us though. Gotta be at least a hundred and twenty degree incline. So let's get to it before we get eaten," she said. Everyone nodded and sized up the hill before they began their climb. They were a little more than halfway up the hill when the fallen autumn leaves made the climb a bit slippery, and Nima was having a bit of trouble, despite her leg having healed. Grant noticed and handed her his walking stick.

"Thanks," she said, getting a better grip on the ground. Grant smiled and nodded.

"Don't mention—" Grant was cut off by a sinister snarling sound. Grant knew what it was before the sound even ended. Velociraptors.

"Oh no. Go. Climb. NOW!" Grant yelled. Everyone looked back at him in confusion.

"Why what's- -?" Before Gerry could finish his sentence, he was met with the unmistakeable screeching sound as two raptors ran out of the woods at the base of the hill. They were quickly advancing up the hill towards Nima, who was the lowest on the hill. Everyone panicked and began frantically climbing up the side of the steep hill. The raptors were right behind them, almost within biting range of Nima. At the top of the hill was a clearing with a few ruined tents and some charred walker bodies in a pile. Kayla was the first to reach the top.

"Move your asses! I need a clear shot!" She said, drawing her gun. Grant reached the clearing next, followed close behind by Gerry. Nima was nearly there, but the raptors were practically on top of her at this point. Kayla lined up a shot and killed one of the raptors. Nima was nearly at the top when the second raptor bit down on the walking stick Nima had. It was pulling her down the hill.

"Nima! Let go!" Gerry said, his wrench in hand. Nima released her grasp on the walking stick, and scrambled up the hill. The raptor dropped the walking stick as Nima got to the clearing. The raptor made one last ditch effort to get to Nima, and jumped 10 feet in the air. It was about to plunge its back claws into Nima's back, when Kayla shot the raptor in the chest, sending its lifeless body tumbling back down the hill. Grant offered Nima a hand and helped her to her feet. Everyone took a second to catch their breath and made sure they were safe.

"I think—I think we're in the clear," Grant said in between breaths. Kayla reloaded her gun.

"Hope so. I've only got two rounds left," she said.

"I'm out too. By the way, thanks for saving my ass back there," Nima said to Kayla.

"Don't mention it. Least I can do for putting a gun to your head a week ago," Kayla said, nodding and holstering her pistol.

"Maybe we can find something…Here," Gerry said, turning around to witness the gruesome scene behind them. There were walkers piled up and charred to a crisp, blood and entrails all over the ground, and dinosaur claws sticking out of the ground.

"From one massacre to the next," Grant said, putting his hand on his hips. Once everyone had recovered from the raptor attack, the group searched the run down camp. Nima and Kayla found a few rounds that had been dropped on the ground, Gerry found a few cans of food, and Grant found a blue baseball cap with the Initials JB on the underside of the brim. After everyone had packed away what little supplies they had found, Nima noticed Gerry standing solemnly in front of several mounds with rock sculptures behind each mound. Gerry wiped tears away from his eyes as Nima came and stood next to him, putting her hand on his shoulder.

"Everything alright?" She said softly. Gerry nodded.

"Yeah. It's just—seeing these graves; makes me wonder if Jess or Sarah are lying in something like this. Somewhere," Gerry said, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Hey," Nima said, looking him in the eyes. "I know Jess. She's a strong and resourceful girl. She has to be alive Gerry. I'm sure she's out there looking for you too. I don't know Sarah, but if she's anything like you, or Jess, she's going to be fine too. Besides, if both your daughters can survive days on an island surrounded by dinosaurs, the apocalypse won't even phase them,"

Gerry looked at her with a sad smile and nodded. The two of them just stood there in silence for a few minutes looking at the graves. Afterwards, Kayla came over to them.

"Hey. Sorry If I'm interrupting anything, but Grant found something," Nima and Gerry nodded as the three of them joined a worried looking Grant by a much larger mound that had various grotesque rotting dinosaur appendages sticking out.

"What the hell is this?" Gerry asked.

"Someone buried these raptors," Grant said.

"Why in the hell would anyone do that?" Kayla asked. Grant was quiet for a minute, then gave a smile with a realization.

"To mask the smell," he said. Kayla looked puzzled and disgusted.

"They sure as hell didn't do a good job. I can smell these things decaying from a mile away," She said.

"Not the rotting smell," said Grant. "The burning. Whoever did this, didn't burn these raptors like they did with the deadheads. Another dinosaur would smell it miles from here," Just then, an ear piercing bellow echoed through the woods as birds flew out of the trees. There was no question about it. Tyrannosaur. Everyone in the group looked off in the direction of the roar.

"Like that one?" Kayla said sarcastically, looking at Grant. Nima and Gerry grabbed their bags. As did Grant and Kayla.

"Billy's not here. We need to keep moving before we end up dead, or worse," Gerry said. Kayla started walking towards the woods, away from the T. rex once again.

"Then let's get the hell out of here before anything else know's we're here,"

End

Hey everyone! Hope you enjoyed this short little interlude chapter. There will be more dinosaur variety soon, I promise! Just to give you an idea, I'm planning on adding dinosaurs like Herrarasaurus, Allosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Ankylosaurus, and more! As an aside, I haven't mentioned Nima's daughter yet for a reason. I have some plans for her down the line. Also, if you read the original iteration of this chapter, Owen showed up, but I didn't like how I introduced him, so instead, he is going to be with Abraham's group in season 4. I think it just makes more sense given his military background, and the fact that not every single Jurassic character would have been going to the trials. I can also confirm that Claire, Ian Malcolm and Maisy will be showing up in season 3, and/or in an an interlude story set between season 2 and 3. Anyway, please let me know what you think so far, and as always, thanks for reading!
