"Is the show right? Did you really wall in Reverend Moore?" Danny asked.
"Yes. And No.." Amos sighed "Yes, my body did it. But I, I.. did not. It was not my mind, not my will.. I killed before…and I feasted on the blood. I did it to Jacob and to Hepzibah. But killing that way with no blood being spilled… with all that blood going to waste… no, not me.."
"Who then?"
"Kisasi. Reverend Moore had praised the slave trade which brought so many to the Gospel. With his words he aroused a creature born of the anger and despair of so many chained in the holds. Kisasi was Revenge, and revenge was taken. Moore was to die chained in the dark, same as so many others had died. And because Kisasi had no hands that could chain Moore, nor to mix mortar or lay down bricks, he rode me… "Chevauche" that's what it is called, when a spirit rides you as if you were a horse. And so I was the "cheval" the horse for Kisasi. I knew that Moore had been lured by Kisasi's illusions, and by Silas, who was in Kisasi's power... I heard Moore's protestations, I felt him fighting me… but I was watching, not doing. My hands closed the chains around his wrists, as my mouth mocked him.. My hands laid the bricks one by one as Moore begged for his life….And then I laid the last brick
"Die chained in the dark, Moore! And be grateful that I am bringing you to God!'
"And then Kisasi released me, so that I could go feed.. And I knew that I would not be allowed to free Moore"
"It was a horrible way to die"
"Yes. I would have cheerfully torn him apart as I had done to Jacob, but that much mercy was not allowed me. I had to spread fear and despair among the white devils, and I did."
"What else does the show got right… and wrong?"
"The death of Porter's wife…. I see what the writers think. We got a vampire, so of course he can take care of all the killings. No need to look for motives… he's a vampire, that's all the motivation he needs."
"So who killed her?"
"Who else? Porter. Porter had just committed bigamy and stood to inherit a large amount of money. And then the wife that he had deserted years ago tracks him down, reminding him of his duty towards her…well, you can see what would happen don't you?"
"And put the blame on you."
"Yes, he lured her to the water edge hit her over te head and threw her to the water. Another victim of the same monster that was terrorizing the town. A passing stranger that met the wrong person at the wharf…"
"And Porter…"
"Porter found out how easy it was to kill. And then he realized that one more killing and he would inherit the whole property…"
"One more killing…"
"Yes. Once Jimmy Benchley died, with Amos disinherited and Becky dead, Debbie would be the sole heiress, and Porter would control the money as her husband… it was so easy really…"
