"And thus I ended up chained, locked away, and suffering from hallucinations that were so real to me… until Danny freed me… My story was ended there."
"Your story, yes" Wendy continued, but it had not ended yet for the Benchleys, nor for Margaret Lafferty, that Catholic girl trying her best where so many hated her for what she was. Margaret who hoping to marry soon.
"Margaret knew more than she let on about Lieutenant Porter. She had come to know about his deal with Jacob, and had seen the light of greed in his eyes when discussing inheritance. He had pretended to be saddened at Becky's death, but could not hide his glee..
"In the meantime Moore's congregation wanted to know what had happened to the Reverend, and of course blamed her. Given the threats, Silas had given her a gun to protect herself. And she watched James like a hawk.
"And for two days she kept him safe, while Lucas called lawyers about what could be done about Jacob's will…and to bring back the fleet and stop the trade… he wondered what could be done about the slaves already in the holds… if the could be sent back to their countries… or offer them a refuge… or…or..
"But on the third day, Porter struck. He used the mob to surround the estate howling for Margaret's life. As the shouts rose Margaret and Silas began boarding up the windows, and that's when Porter came through a secret passage…one used during the Revolution to escape the British and grabbed James and pulled him away.
"James managed a scream… enough for Margaret and Silas to follow Porter who was dragging James away, trying to strangle him… Porter managed to step outside and began to run… That's when Margaret shot him.
"Porter dropped dead and James ran to Margaret. But the shot had alerted the mob. Margaret's only bullet was spent, and Silas was overcome.
"They lynched Margaret. They hung her from a tree…and Lucas came too late...
"The lynched Margaret…. They lynched me.."
