"I cannot believe that they would have me fall in love with that slimy Herb Whitby… and that they killed off Flynn to make room for him"
"Well, the actor playing Flynn had to be replaced. And the one playing Whitby was quite good looking"
"Yes, Whitby had looks. But that was it. He could charm you a bit at the outset. Until you got to know him. And then to kill off their Flynn..."
"Well, Flynn came and went, so it was not so difficult to write him off."
"Still. Here I am, married to him, and the one who is supposed to be me has forgotten all about Flynn and is making eyes to the likes of Whitby. I feel like sending them an angry letter."
"That would freak them out. Having one of their characters complain…do not forget, they THINK they invented us."

Genevieve de Brissac showed up all over the place calling plaintively "Amos is in danger…help him…"
She showed up at Benchley Hall, but neither Louis nor Dinah could understand what she said. Charlie heard her, but he shrugged and said "serves him right."
She came to Beverly, but again she could not make herself understood…
She drifted to the village calling for anyone to help…

Midler waited until Lawson was alone to come in. He cut short Lawson's greeting as he pointed a gun at him.
"You come with me. I want to meet your pal, Amos Benchley… And don't pretend you don't know what I am talking about. I want to meet your vampire. There are some experiments I need him for."
Lawson drove as Midler kept the gun at his side. They came in. Whitby was there, having tied both Heather and Danny.
"Yes. I do want to meet the vampire. Where is he?"
Danny said nothing, but could not keep from glancing at the place where the secret door was. Whitby went there and managed to open it.
Midler looked at the unconscious body of Amos. "Oh, yes. He will be a nice specimen."
Lawson moved thinking perhaps that with both of them taking the body he had a chance to grab a gun. But Midler was faster.
He shot Lawson who fell over dead.

"So, it was Midler who killed Lawson"
"Yes. They had it to be Amos, but the truth leaked out. Remember that scene where the actor playing Amos could not remember Lawson's name? Well, who comes up with the name but the actor playing Midler? Yes. That's how the truth leaked out. Midler was the murderer… Orczy could hurt Amos by showing him to be the murderer, but could not keep the truth fully bottled up."
"And Danny was shot too?"
"Yes. He was forced to help Whitby carry Amos to Whitby's pick up and when he was done Whitby made him walk back into the house and shot him"

What do we do with her? Shoot her too?"
"Nah. We have the goods on her. We will come back for her later. Just tape her mouth shut. If she is found she can make up a story about two strangers coming in to rob the place… or some such. She can invent fast when she has to. But she will not tell the truth because of what I have on her."

"And then Genevieve came to me." Wendy said. "She told me that Amos was in danger and that I must help him – as he had helped me. I talked to Frank and he did not want to do it, so I said that if he did not do it, we were through. We both owed Amos our lives."
"And I guess she nagged Charlie enough because he showed up as I was trying to untie myself" Heather said. "Which probably saved Danny. Because he released me and I could call 911. I told him to wait for the ambulance and that I had to go rescue Amos. He wanted explanations and I told him that I would tell him after I could get Amos free. I ran out leaving him alone with Danny, not before I told him to put pressure on his wound…. Lawson was dead, I could do nothing for him."
"And we saw you running as we were driving by" Wendy said "I knew that I had to pick you up, and the three of us. raced to reach Midler in time. There was a gun in the truck, but Frank would not let Heather carry it. It dd not matter. She knew where to find another. "Just get me in."

Frank dropped Heather by the trees surrounding the clinic.
"Are you sure?" he asked her.
"Yes. You do your thing and I will sneak in."
Frank nodded and went to place himself. "Get the gun ready" he told Wendy.

"It is too bad that we'll have to wait until he wakes up. Why can't vampires hold regular hours?"
He started taking measurements off Amos' unconscious body. "Yes, these match the results I got from Claire. Poor Claire, if only she had not been so curious and suddenly decided that there were things she would not do…"
The crash at the gates startled him. "Go find out what that is," he told Whitby.
Heather raced into the building as everyone was running to where Frank had crashed his truck. She saw Wendy lift the gun, facing the orderlies and guards. She knew where to go. And the gun was there where she expected it to be. She then raced again to the lab where she knew Midler would have Amos. She came in.
"So, you are back, Heather. Well, you know what is good for you."
Heather shot him then she turned to the safe where she knew that Midler kept the information on her. A bullet took care of it and she pulled out all the papers.
Whitby came in herding Frank and Wendy. "Well, well look what we have here." He moved to where Heather was, who lifted her own gun.
Amos rose ."What happened here?"
Whitby looked at the dead body of Midler and decided that it was time to get out of there. He pointed the gun to the lights and shot them. As everyone reacted, he raced out not wanting to see where it would end up
"We should burn up this place" Frank said.
"There are people here, patients and staff. Just get Amos out of here. I will talk to the police. Tell them what Midler was doing. And try to get immunity by giving them info on Midler's drug deals.
Frank looked around. "Well, let's release the patients. They will make enough of a distraction so we can get away.'
Amos, Wendy, and Frank ran through the building unlocking any door they found. Frank got into the room where files were kept and saw a notebook with Midler' s name on it "I think that this will be useful to me" Then he resumed unlocking doors and creating havoc.
Heather sat at Midler's desk carefully destroying the papers that incriminated her and keeping the info on the drugs suppliers and other people the police would be interested
She heard Frank's truck leaving and smiled. It was going to work out, after all…
