"I do not understand why you could have been so cheerful about taking care of "Adam"" Beverly noted. "I know that it involved some unpleasant duties… and he was not precisely cute or endearing. He was actually a mess. And you liked that?"
"Well, it had to do with the link Amos and I had." Danny explained, "He had taken blood from me several times and also felt bonded to me as he was not to others…. Perhaps because I had rescued him. So, his feelings spilled over me. And he was JOYOUS about taking care of that wretch… it was a way to make up for all the ones he failed to save… it was to fill a hole in his heart that Lawson's death had caused… and what he felt, I felt. Eventually we learned, both of us, to keep our feelings separate… there were some feelings of me that he did not want to share, either. In any case I was happy taking care of Adam."

"He is sick Amos" Danny said "and nothing helps. Miss Mattox says that he needs the kind of medicine that can be gotten only with a doctor's prescription."
"So, I can do either of two things, put a doctor under my power" and Amos did not like it because it brought memories of Lawson "or she can use her training to synthetize what we need after we get the ingredients. Ask her how difficult it would be."

It was not difficult at all. Danny had to collect some poisonous mushrooms and some herbs while I bought over the counter medicines and bought household products along with chemical supplies."
"And what explanation did you give for buying those?"
"Miss Mattox wanted to get a brewery and experiment with ingredients."
"Of course, I did not want to do it " Heather sighed. "But I did not want to anger Amos, so I got the medicine and "Adam" got better. Better enough to become a different kind of problem"
"Well, that is all good. But in the meantime, I was transporting this "package" Frank tried to continue his story and when we were halfway the box opened and this woman showed up in front of me."
"Call me Irina" she said. And then she flashed fangs and bit me in the throat."
"Irina was a vampire? But I thought she was Fae"
"She was. But there are ways to force the vampire condition on a Fae. And Irina was enslaved to a sorcerer who had inflicted this on her as a punishment for disobedience."
"And so, she came back to Benchleytown."
