The little blue Exceed woke early Sunday morning to the smell of breakfast being made. After the Fairy Tail party, the duo stayed home the rest of the weekend. While they didn't do much yesterday, it was apparent to the Exceed that Natsu had plans for this morning. Without opening his eyes, Happy began to levitate above the bed, flying sleepily towards the kitchen. As he rubbed his eyes and opened them, the blue cat noticed the sun had barely come up.
"What time is it?" Happy asked curiously.
"Oh! Hey buddy!" Natsu grinned as he turned away from the stove. "Uh, I'm not sure. I was getting breakfast ready because I wanted to go fishing this morning!"
"That sounds like a great way to end the weekend." The Exceed smiled. "Will it just be the two of us?"
"I think so.." The Dragon Slayer's attitude changed. His shoulders slumped as he looked down at the stove. "I don't think Lucy's back from her mission yet. Gajeel said something about her taking another job with Levy."
"She sure has been taking a lot of jobs since we came back from Edolas." Happy comments. "I wonder if she's needing money to stay in her apartment?"
"It's possible…Don't get why she's not asking us to go.." The Dragon Slayer mused, getting lost in his own thoughts about the Celestial Mage.
Unsure of how to respond, the little blue Exceed decided to change the subject entirely. "We could always ask Lisanna! It's been a long time since the three of us went fishing."
Natsu thought about Happy's proposal. While he liked spending time with Mira's younger sister, the Dragon Slayer was really missing his other partner in crime.
It seemed like the two kept missing each other by mere seconds. While Natsu was at the guild hall yesterday, he overheard some of the members talking about his friend. Apparently, an hour or so after the Dragon Slayer left the party, Lucy arrived looking for him. This was the same time he learned about the Celestial Mage going on a mission with Levy.
Was Lucy okay? Did the events in Edolas change the young blonde in ways that Natsu couldn't understand? The pink haired wizard didn't want to believe that he and Lucy were drifting apart. The thought made his heart race and his temperature rise. Could she have noticed that Lisanna and I are getting reacquainted? It would possibly cause her to distance herself, but I just don't get it!
"Hello? Earthland to Natsu!" Happy waved his paws around as he flew towards the burning smell. Getting the toast out of the toaster as quickly as possible, the Exceed sighed at the blackened pieces of bread. "Do we have any more? I don't think there's any saving these pieces."
"Should be on top of the fridge.." The Dragon Slayer mentioned distantly. "Sorry about that."
"Are you okay? You've been acting weird ever since your last job ended." As Happy put the bread in the toaster, he was met with silence to his question. After a moment, the cat turns to look at Natsu. "I'm sorry I didn't go. I promise to never leave on another mission without asking first!" The blue Exceed was near tears, his friend still not answering him.
"Don't worry about it." Giving his friend a toothy grin, Natsu turned and began plating the rest of their breakfast. "I'm okay, Happy. I can't explain it, things just feel weird without Lucy around."
"I know." Happy smiled. "It's only been a few days, but it feels like we haven't seen her in months."
"She's been making a lot of friends at the guild hall." The Dragon Slayer pointed out. "We'll just have to pay her a visit once she gets back!"
"Aye, sir!"
The duo ate their breakfast in relative silence. The only sounds that could be heard through the home were the scraping of forks and the munching of food. Gusts of wind could be heard rattling the windows, causing Natsu to look outside.
After they clean up from their morning meal, Natsu and Happy make their way towards their favorite fishing spot. Once they lock up their home, The Dragon Slayer goes to the shed to pick up their poles. After the duo managed to get their gear together, they set off on their mission. While their favorite spot was quite a distance away, both wizards missed the relaxing fishing hole. Happy couldn't remember the last time he and his best friend did this together.
"Sure, it has been a while since we've been fishing." The blue Exceed commented.
"You're right." The Dragon Slayer nodded. "We've been so busy doing things with the guild hall, that we haven't had time to ourselves."
Natsu couldn't wait to finally sit back and relax with some fishing. After coming back from Edolas, the pink haired wizard knew he'd been taking his magic power for granted. Being without the fire in his belly left him feeling a shell of his former self. While he knew saving his friends was his top priority, the Dragon Slayer felt useless without his magic.
Now more than ever, Natsu wanted to continue his training to become stronger. The young wizard now had other goals to add to his training. Becoming a better hand-to-hand fighter, and enhancing his senses were on the top of his list.
"We're here!" Happy exclaimed excitedly as he flew down the little trail to their favorite spot. "Look! The water level is so much higher than last time!"
"Thank goodness." The Dragon Slayer grinned. "I was afraid we were going to have to do something to help it out!" Natsu was more than willing to divert different rivers to this place to fill it up.
The blue Exceed began humming as he got his fishing pole ready. Sitting on a nearby rock, Happy cast his line into the water, waiting patiently for a bite. The pink haired wizard glanced at his friend, who was intently observing the water.
"Natsu! I got one!" Happy exclaimed as he reeled in the fishing pole as fast as he could.
"Great job, buddy!"
Several hours passed, and the duo caught handfuls of different varieties of fish. There was more than enough to feed Natsu and Happy for over a week!
"Oh wow! There's so many fishies!" The Exceed could feel himself salivating. "This has to be our biggest haul yet!"
My plan worked out perfectly! The Fire Dragon Slayer grinned brightly at the pile of fish. "Hey Happy, I've got an idea."
"What's that?"
"We could take our haul over to the Exceeds? Have a nice fish fry with them!"
"Really?" The blue cat was overtaken by emotion. Happy couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. "I don't even know where they made their home. It could take a while to find them."
"It's a good thing I already know where they are, isn't it?" Flashing his best friend a toothy grin, Natsu reassured the little blue cat there was nothing to worry about.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea! Should we invite Wendy and Carla as well?"
"The more, the merrier!" The Fire Dragon Slayer nodded as he began gathering their stuff. "Let's take the gear home, and then head to their place!"
Once back in Magnolia, the three ended their weekend adventure at Fairy Tail. Lucy quickly walked up to the counter and gave Mirajane the completion paperwork. The second they got their reward money, the trio split it between themselves.
"Thank you ladies for a fun weekend." Pantherlily said with a smile as he put the jewel in a safe space. "Please don't hesitate to ask again if you're going to Hosenka."
"We had a great time too, Lily." The Celestial mage grinned at the Exceed.
"We're glad you tagged along, especially with those weirdos at the festival." Levy mentioned.
"Did something happen on your mission?" Mira interrupted, curious as to what happened.
"It wasn't anything we couldn't handle." Lucy chuckled, remembering the strange incident.
"Which ride should we go on next?" The script mage looked at her two friends. One looked excited, while the other was beginning to turn green under his fur. Levy chuckled as she glanced at Lily. "Maybe we should take a break? Are you feeling alright?"
"M-me?" Pantherlily was doing his best to keep his footing even. The nausea was beginning to take its toll on him. "I'll be just fine! We can go on another ride!"
Levy and Lucy both giggled at the bravado that their comrade was showing in front of them. Instead of attempting to combat the lines, the trio takes a seat on a nearby bench. The script mage takes a good look at Pantherlily, hoping that he was doing okay. "You sure you're doing alright?"
"Yeah.." The Exceed gave them a small smile. "I just need to rest for a second. My stomach keeps doing flips around my body."
"I'll go get us something to drink." Levy decided, getting up from between Lily and Lucy. This left the Celestial Mage and the black cat alone together for a moment.
"So… Did you learn anything from your tarot reading?" Pantherlily asked curiously.
"I believe so." Lucy nodded as she opened her purse, looking at the cards that were given to her. "I can't wait to do my own readings. I've always been interested in tarot cards. Being a Celestial Wizard, I feel that I can't discredit their value."
"I wonder if your spirits could assist you in this endeavor?" Lily wondered. "I'm sure they know a lot about the cosmic connection to tarot cards."
"That may be the perfect place to start, thanks Pantherlily!" Lucy beamed at her friend. Out of the corner of her eye, the Celestial mage noticed a group of four watching them carefully. For the last hour or so, the blonde felt as if the trio were being followed. She would turn, seeing crowds of different people each time. Was it these boys that were causing this feeling?
"You notice them too?" Lily asked in a hushed voice, not turning to face them.
"Have they been-?"
"Following us?" Lily stood on the bench, deciding to stretch and look around. "Yeah, but I'm not sure why. They haven't approached us, so I think we just need to remain vigilant."
"I'm back!" Levy smiled, bringing drinks along with a tray of food for the wizards. Keeping on the bright smile, the script mage could feel the eyes of the boys watching them. "Anyone else notice that?"
Lucy and Pantherlily both nod to Levy, but don't say anything more. The trio continues to eat their food in relative silence, watching as the group of boys slowly come closer to them.
"Are you guys wizards?" The Celestial mage heard a slimy voice from behind them, startling her. Lucy turned to see a man scratching at his face. Sores were beginning to form on his face and arms.
"If that's all you came to ask, I'm going to have to politely ask you to leave." Pantherlily stood, revealing his battle form. It startled the three non-magic users in front of them, but didn't scare them away like LIly'd hoped.
"They are wizards!" The main brunette pointed to Lucy's hand. "I see her Fairy Tail emblem on her!"
"Do y'all have any Drip on ya?" The blonde next to him asked feverently.
"Yeah! We need some of it badly!"
"We'll do anything you ask!"
"Drip?" Mirajane interrupted. "What in the world is that?"
"We don't know…" Lucy admitted with a sigh. "I'm not sure if we want to know. The three boys looked as if they were falling apart."
"I'm glad I decided to go with you ladies. Who knows what would've happened if you would've been on your own."
"The only thing that matters now, is that you're all safe and sound." Mira beamed at the three wizards. "All of you need to go home and rest. It seems like you've had a long weekend."
Who were these mysterious non-magic users? Will this become a problem Fairy Tail needs to investigate? Please stay tuned to find out more next week!
