Hello, everyone.

It's been a while since I've posted a new story and even longer since I've had a chance to talk with you all, things have gone up and down, but mostly down.
Next thing you know, I blink and 5 years had passed without anything, no new work, no nothing. Quite frankly, I'm here to try to ease myself back into this as I consider myself pretty rusty compared to then, but I hope I've improved in not only writing, but in the way I tell stories.

So, let's get into this really quick, a few disclaimers and such, but I would like to thank a fellow author by the name of "Mr. Herp-Derp" who was the original one that came up with this idea and later gave it to me way back then, I never got around to seriously working on it until now.

I've always been a big fan of this pairing, but it's disheartening to see how underrated it is, so I've come to place my own contributions to this.
It's also my first time writing with these characters in mind as I never really grew with them, but I'm doing my best to make it as close to the original characters as I can while adding a few small twists of my own to hopefully and lovingly give a more fleshed-out personality to each character.

Now, this goes without saying, I own NONE of the characters portrayed in this story, nor do I own this original idea. I don't even own the cover, I commissioned an artist by the name of PizzaPie30 who created this wonderful work of art that captured the story so beautifully.

The only thing I own is the story, nothing else.

I understand that Disney is a bit sensitive with the usage of their characters, so if this gets taken down, you'll know it wasn't because I chose to take it down.

I believe that's all of it, I hope you all enjoy!

"Come on, dad! Higher!"

"I'mma tryin', Maxie!"

The scene was something out of a perfect photo.
There was a son with his loving father, running along with their kites in the wind that blew harshly and left many things flying, but it wasn't enough to ruin the day the Goofs had planned as they flew their kites as high in the sky as their string would allow them to.

The older one flying his red kite with green stripes erratically as he tried to maintain control of it was Gooferson G. Goof himself, but he's better known around his friends, family, coworkers and everyone in between as "Goofy".
While the younger one that seemed to have better control of his blue and yellow striped kite is Maximillion G Goof. But he's better known by everyone as-

"WHOOOA! Careful there, Maxie! We're gettin' way too close to the power lines!"

Well, I'm sure you get the gist of it.

"I got it, dad!"
Max seemed to get the hang of kite-flying pretty quickly and grew confident. So much so, that he even began performing tricks with it, which didn't make his already nervous dad worry any less as he seemed to watch Max's kite more than his own
And it also didn't help that, already Goofy had acrashed his kite into a tree with an angry squirrel, ruined a couple's picnic by sliding through and he was even chased by some people playing a football game due to the fact that he accidentally caught the football. Thankfully, he was able to throw it and some of the players caught on that he wasn't in on their game.

As far as things went, this was just a normal day for Goofy, not a day ever seemed to pass without something happening.
But it wasn't that he had meant to do any of those things, he was just clumsy sometimes, though that would be saying it lightly and I mean VERY lightly.

Goofy's kite continued to seemingly control Goofy's direction, making the man slide across the grass like he was wake surfing while Max's kite literally danced around his dad's, almost teasing it, which made Max laugh.

Yes, sir, it had been a wonderful day so far. It began with a morning bike ride as they rode around town greeting everyone, even though it ended with them having to finish the paperboy's route as they accidentally crashed into him, and he needed to get home early.
There was also the car breaking down on the way to the park and Max had to save his dad after the hood had closed on him, leaving him trapped and dirtied, though he didn't mind it.

But it wasn't a total loss, as the day was saved by having footlong hot dogs for lunch, spending some time at the arcade and the skate park. As far as either one was concerned, they were both having a wonderful time, at least despite everything.

"M-Maxie! Watch out fer that-WHOA-OOF!" The scream was cut short by pigeons fluttering their wings, a large splash and the screams of some of the people as water seemed to fall on them.

"Dad!" Max rolled back his cut and ran to the direction he had seen his dad go.

It seemed that the kite trip was abruptly cut short by Goofy running straight into the park water fountain, he was now completely wet, and the kite was nowhere to be seen. A pigeon landed on Goofy's head, having mistaken him for a statue, which only made him laugh.

Max ran up to the fountain and tried to help his dad up. "Dad, are you okay?" He called out as he reached out his hand and made sure not to step into the water himself, the last thing they needed was for both of them to be wet and they had already gone swimming at the pool earlier this week, so they didn't bring any swimwear.

"Gawrsh, ya think there'd be a sign somewhere. A-hyuck!" Goofy just laughed it off as he always had, that was one of his better traits, nothing ever seemed to get him down, even when it seemed like his everyday life involved a disaster or twenty.

Goofy grabbed onto Max's hand as he stepped out of the fountain and began to shake the dripping water off of him by shaking his arms and legs, much to the chagrin of the remaining bystanders who were unfortunate enough to be close by and got wet in one way or another.
Max couldn't help feeling embarrassed as people muttered under their breath as they left.

And, of course, his dad was completely oblivious to it all.

"Well, when ya put everythin' together, it wasn't so bad!" Goofy was still drying his clothes off as they walked back to the car, taking off his shirt and wringing it out while his son insisted on carrying the rest of the stuff, hoping that by doing so, they could avoid another fiasco.

"Yeah, heh, sure dad," Max weakly replied, trying to hide his embarrassment as the last bits of the evening was replaying in his head, wondering if people would still recognize them if they arrived at the park.
No, they probably would, he thought as he opened the trunk and looked over at his dad knocking water out of his ear until he ended up knocking a penny out.
"Well, call me crazy! It's a lucky penny! Gawrsh, I wonder if that's how magicians do it," his father exclaimed with a laugh before putting said 'Lucky Penny' into his wet pants pocket.

Nope.
They definitely would, Max groaned to himself and focused on putting the stuff away.

Goofy was chuckling as he dried his shirt again and recounted the day's events.
As far as he was concerned, he had a lot of fun... though there was no denying that they definitely could've done some things differently, but he at least got to spend time with his son, and he got to enjoy himself.

That was all that mattered to him. Max's happiness.

Sure, he messed up here and there, it was never entirely his fault.
These things just happened sometimes, and he knew Max was trying to help him be more like a normal dad, though Goofy never understood why as Grandma Goof had always taught him to just be himself as that was the best thing he could do.

But he would do whatever he could to help his son be happy, as it wasn't always easy for the both of them.
Especially during those times.

No, no no, he shook his head and occupied himself with drying off the final bits of water from his shirt before putting it on, he didn't need to veer into that territory of his mind.

As far as he was concerned, that was the past, nothing could be changed about that now. What he had now was Max and while Max would be an adult in a few years, he still needed his dad.

At least, that's what Goofy felt.

But, as he finished straightening his shirt out, he noticed that the sun was setting and how beautiful it was so mesmerized by it that he didn't even notice that Max had finished putting everything back into the car or that he even stood right next to him, wondering what his dad was staring at until he saw the sun setting too.

The scenery of the sun was a beautiful shade of orange diving into the red sea of clouds, Max heard Goofy break into a large sigh, and he had a goofy (no pun intended) grin on his face, which left him to wonder what was going through his old man's mind.

Sure, his dad was far from being normal and he was definitely a few slices of cheese short of a footlong sandwich, but Max loved his dad, and he knew for certain that his dad loved him. It wasn't his fault he was so clumsy all the time... but, despite everything that had happened, Max realized he had fun.

It wasn't just today either, they were doing all sorts of different things this entire week to celebrate the last week of summer vacation as they went to the movies, went ice skating, watched a ball game, went swimming, participated in a pie eating contest, took a walk through a beach boardwalk and ate at a seafood restaurant there, daring each other to eat what the other ordered as they proceeded to order the most disgusting looking things on the menu.

Though, in the end, they both got sick from what they ate as REALLY exotic seafood wasn't something the Goof family was known for eating, but they both laughed it off afterwards.

He looked down back at the sun and also broke into a smile, it was fun to have a day out like this where it was just the two of them, where they could forget the rest of the world existed and it was just them both against it.

"Thanks for taking me to the park, dad, I had a blast," Max began as he started to look wistful, "I kind of wish it didn't have to end so soon."

Goofy was surprised to hear his son right next to him, but when he registered what he said, he wore a huge smile, feeling pleased with himself. He wrapped an arm around Max as the two watched the sun set together.

Yes... it was, in fact, a perfect end to a great week and Goofy knew deep down in his heart, he wished these moments could last forever.

"Me too, Maxie... me too."

The car ride was pretty quiet, and darkness had fallen, the two sat on either seat of the old car.

Goofy kept looking over to Max's direction, thinking of whether he should say something or let it wait until they got home.
Meanwhile, Max was just looking out the window, watching the moon as the trees seemingly breezed through the night sky. Goofy noted that Max was too tired to turn on the radio, so he felt it was appropriate to have a father/son talk with him, especially since tomorrow was the day.

"So, Maxie, ya'll set for tomorrow?" He asked without moving his eyes away from the road.
As if responding, Max let out a long, slow breath of air, stressed and frustrated.

If today's purpose was to help him forget he was even starting a new grade in school, it seemed to have done a good job, as he went through it without thinking of any of it... That is, until his dad mentioned it.

"Y-Yeah, dad. All ready." He replied weakly, which unlike the long sigh, didn't go unnoticed by Goofy.

He looked over at his son and felt for him. Even though it had been many long years since he himself was in school, he knew the anticipation and jittering nerves of starting a new grade in a new school was something that would never change, no matter the generation.

"Ya know, son, if it makes ya feel any better, I was nervous before starting the 9th grade too and lemme tell ya, it's a whole new experience and it'll only get better as it goes on!"

"I know, dad, thanks."

"A-hyuck! Did I ever tell ya about my time being cheerleader for the football team? Why, I was a..." Goofy went on with his stories as he attempted to encourage his son as a way to make him feel less nervous and more confident entering the steps of the new high school tomorrow.

Max knew that his dad only called him 'son' when he was being serious, but he was stating what he already knew in this regard, so it was hard to take him seriously at this time, especially since he was bringing up old stories that he had heard about a hundred times already throughout his life.

But he didn't want to be rude and interrupt him, so he listened halfheartedly, letting out an occasional nod and reply of agreement.

"... and so, that's why we were the only school in the state to be banned from havin' square-dancin'! A-hyuck!" Goofy laughed as he finished his stories, wearing a warm smile as he revisited happy memories. They each got out of the car and Goofy went to open the trunk while Max slowly closed his door.

"Gee, dad, thanks, but times were different when you were in school." Max muttered under his breath.
The story went on for the rest of the car ride, they had already arrived home and Max had seriously wished he could've listened to some music instead, but he didn't want to be rude to his dad. He knew he was trying his best.

So, for his dad's sake, Max simply faked a smile before replying, "Thanks, dad, I'll be okay," trying his best to sound convincing.

He knew that if he let his dad in that he was still nervous, he would do anything in his power to help Max to feel more relaxed about it, because that was just the kind of dad he was... but if he let him do everything in his power, that just meant there was going to be even more trouble... because that was the kind of person Goofy was.

But Goofy seemed to buy it as he laughed and ruffled Max's hair a bit. "Well, just let me know if I can help ya with anything, Maxie," he chuckled as he grabbed some of the stuff from the trunk and headed towards the house to open the front door.

"Thanks, dad," Max replied genuinely and proceeded to gather some stuff together.

"Hey, Max!" A voice cried out, which made Max turn, even though he would recognize the owner of the voice anywhere.

"Hey, P.J." Max replied as P.J. ran up to him and they instinctively did the secret handshake together.
P.J. was Max's best friend, they had known each other since his dad had decided to move back to his hometown with him and by some strange twist of fate, they managed to live in the house right next door to Goofy's "best pal", Pete.

Much to the latter's disappointment.

But that was a few years ago.
While Max and P.J. had always remained good friends, Pete started to warm up to Goofy recently, especially since he could use him as an excuse to get out of his house when it was the most convenient for him, such as when Peg's parents came to visit.

"So, you're back?" P.J. asked casually, putting his hands behind him and leaned forward to check out the trinkets littering the entire back part of the car.

"Yeah, just got back. Why? What'd you do?" Max turned his focus back to getting the suitcase out of the trunk, it didn't even occur to him why P.J. had even asked that as that's how he always was.

"My dad took me out fishing this morning," P.J. grimaced, looking down.

"Doesn't sound too bad," Max replied, not even looking his best friend in the eye.

"Pshh, yeah, if your idea of fun is getting pushed and bruised by a huge football player for over 5 hours because he thinks you have some power that'll make you snag a really huge fish. I don't even think I like fishing much."

Right before Max could even reply, Goofy returned from the house, seemingly to pick up more stuff.
"Oh, hey, P.J.!" Goofy called out, "Good thing yer here! Wanna help me and Max get this stuff out?"

Max watched his friend face pale at the mention of work and began sputtering to make excuses.
"Um... um... I, uh, think I hear my mom calling," P.J. made a motion with his ear, hoping to convince Max's dad to let him go.

But, Goofy, being ever so dense, reached out and lifted his ear to listen.
"Gawrsh, I don't hear anythin'. You got good ears, P.J."

Feeling like he had succeeded, P.J. was about to turn to leave until Goofy spoke up again.
"But I'm sure yer mom won't mind if we borrow ya for a couple a' minutes."

That stopped him in his tracks fast, he tried again to make another excuse, but didn't get much of a chance to since Max had practically shoved a suitcase into his hands.
"Too late, P," he smirked and stuck his tongue out.

P.J. groaned and moved the suitcase over to the house with Max following him, holding the cooler.

"I don't know about you fishing, P.J. but you're definitely an easy catch and a pretty big one too. Think your dad would like it if we brought you back as a prize?" Max teased.

P.J. turned to glare at him but said nothing.

Goofy woke up with a start, the sounds of the T.V beginning to sound more clearer, though he was too tired to care about what he was watching since it seemed he had drifted off.
He knew that Max had already gone to bed in preparation to wake up early tomorrow and he also knew he should probably get to bed too so he could drive Max over to school.
Little guy had a huge day ahead of him and he would probably need his support.

With that thought in mind, he turned off the T.V. and got up, yawning and scratching himself as he did so.
He really was tired after the long day as his back and legs ached a bit, but Max seemed to have fun the entire time, so it was worth the effort, much like everything Goofy had ever done for him.

Right as he was about to turn off the light and head upstairs, he passed by an old picture frame he hadn't visited in a while. The small wooden frame showed signs of wear and a layer of dust covered the glass that stored a photo Goofy would forever hold in his heart.

He took the photo down from the wall and admiringly ran his hand over it.

"Heya, Coo coo.. has been a while, hasn't it? A-hyuck," Goofy chuckled softly as he admired a photo of his late wife who had died when Max was young.
Even to this day, no one ever seemed to really know the direct causes of her death, but that didn't matter to Goofy as he was never one to think of the past, it hurt a lot less to focus on the present and the future.

But, tonight, however, something in his heart felt he needed to speak to the photo.

"Gawrsh, I'm not even sure where to begin... if you were to see our Maxie now, you'd be swellin' with pride. He's-a growin' faster than... well, faster than I can count."

The photo was Mrs. Goof, smiling that darn sweet smile of hers, the one that stole Goofy's old heart so many years back.
Her eyes seemed to express interest in what he was saying, despite the photo not being able to reply to him.

Goofy took a deep breath and placed the photo back on the wall, kissing it before standing back to admire it once more.
There were days he truly missed her and her wisdom, there were days where he doubted in his parenting skills and if he was even doing the right thing. She would always quiet those doubts and scare off those fears of his because something within her knew he would be a great husband and father. She never cared if he was super clumsy or bad luck incarnate, she truly loved him and Max.

"Good night, Coo coo.. I'll always love ya," he bid the photo farewell and went to check Max's room before going to bed.

Being careful to open the door softly, Goofy watched Max sleeping soundly as he slowly made his way over to the bed and pulled the covers over him.
It was hard to believe that Max was already 14 and about to turn 15 soon, it seemed like only yesterday he was a little boy full of wonder, love and joy.

If it wasn't for Max's love, Goofy felt he would've never made it through those first few years.

"Oh, Maxie... if only yer mom could see ya now... she'd be so proud of ya," Goofy whispered before kneeling down to give Max a gentle kiss on his forehead. Max stirred a little bit, but didn't seem to wake up, thank goodness.

Satisfied, Goofy began to shuffle out of the room.
But he ended up stepping on a toy car that made him lose his balance. He struggled to keep from yelping as he rode the tiny car back and forth in the room in an attempt to regain his balance before failing and having the car whisk him out of the room and down the stairs with him yelling.

Somehow, even with all the noise, Max was still fast asleep.

It's a little strange to be writing this form of comedy, but I can only improve from here.

Thank you all so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. I'll be doing my best to update as often as I can.
The story is complete, the greater details just need to be ironed out.

If you like, feel free to leave a review, send a message, like or even follow the story.
But, if not, it's alright if you just read it. I really appreciate you taking your time to read this today, I pray you have a great one.
