I: Out of the Frying Pan…Into the Fire?! What?!

"Is this how you want it to end?"

'What?'

"I ask again is this how you want it to end?"

"What is it to you?"

"I only think that you and your team would be more useful somewhere else."

"As long as that place is anywhere but here then I'm open to whatever you have in mind."

"Then it is settled. The way is open to you."

Aasimar blinked as she opened her eyes, struggling to recall the events leading up to this moment. Her memory was hazy, but she knew that they had successfully evaded the Ghosts. However, she had no idea where they were now. Looking around, she realized that they were in a forest, but not one that she recognized.

Aasimar and her team, known as Azure Team, had managed to steal valuable intel from a temporary Ghost Base in Afghanistan. Although they had succeeded in their mission, the Ghosts had discovered their actions and were hot on their heels. Despite being surrounded, Azure Team used their advanced Future Soldier technology to stay ahead of the Ghosts. Aasimar knew that their situation was dire, and that they would soon be captured or killed. However, she was surprised when she spotted a glowing "door" down an alley across from their position. Desperate for a way out, Aasimar quickly ordered her team to make a run for it. They made it through the "door" just in time, before a bright light engulfed them and they disappeared.

Thanks to this miraculous escape, Aasimar and her team had managed to avoid capture and certain death. Although they had no idea where they were, they were alive and free.

Aasimar's POV

After waking up from our unusual nap, I and Azure Team all stood up and breathed a sigh of relief. We had managed to escape the chaotic situation we had left behind. However, as we looked around, we noticed that something was very wrong. The "door" we had gone through had transported us to a completely different location.

To make matters worse, it was daytime, but clearly not Afghanistan. We had no idea where we were. Even more concerning was the fact that our satellite and command links had gone dead, leaving only our Squad Cross-Com links operational. This was not a good sign, and I knew that we were in a very dangerous situation.

"What the hell! Ma'am, where are we and how did we end up here?!" Sergio Vergas, call sign "Carnage" the team's heavy weapons specialist said. He was an imposing figure, standing at 6'7" and weighing in at 215lbs. He was a Mexican-American with a reputation for causing carnage and destruction, which earned him his call sign. Despite his intimidating appearance and skills on the battlefield, he was actually a very nice guy to be around when not in combat.

Armed with an LSAT light machine gun that was fitted with a laser sight, a fore grip for stability, and a box cartridge, as well as an XM29 OICW grenade launcher for heavy damage and suppression, the heavy weapons specialist was a force to be reckoned with. He also carried a suppressed USP .45 pistol as a sidearm.

"Your guess is as good as mine Carnage." I replied, just as confused as him. Where did we end up?

"So we went out of the frying pan and into another hell?" asked Amara Markov, call sign "Deadeye". She's the team's recon specialist and also their markswoman, equipped with a Barrett M107 sniper rifle and a suppressed Five-Seven pistol. Standing at 5'9" and weighing in at 149lbs, she was an athletic Russian with a cool demeanor and deadly accuracy. Despite her lethal abilities, the recon specialist was also known for her loyalty to those she considered worthy of her respect.

"I don't know about this being another hell, but one thing for sure is that there's no Ghosts around to dog us." Edward "Gadget" Newman stated. He's the team's tech and demolitions specialist, a playful 5'6" British individual who loved to mess around with gadgets and electronic warfare. Despite his playful nature, he was also a crack shot in firefights, proving to be a valuable asset to the team.

Armed with a CAWS shotgun and a suppressed 45T pistol, the tech and demolitions specialist was always prepared for any situation that might arise. His expertise in electronic warfare and demolitions made him a valuable member of the team, able to take out enemy defenses and disrupt their communications. Overall, his unique skill set and playful nature made him a valuable addition to the team, bringing a bit of lightheartedness to their often dangerous missions.

"That's true, but we're still not in the clear." Deadeye said, "I'd hate to say this ma'am but we're no longer on Earth."

"Already came to that conclusion Deadeye." I said, "Unfortunately we can't spend all day wondering about it. Let's find some form of civilization and get some answers. Move out!"

"Ma'am!" My squad mates acknowledged, and we all cloaked and set off to find the nearest town.

Using their adaptive camo, the team was able to easily find a town without worrying about being spotted by the locals. However, their shock was palpable when they realized that the town resembled those found in medieval times or in fantasy role-playing games that Gadget loved playing.

The team watched in awe as the locals dressed in simple clothing from that period went about their daily lives. Gadget, in particular, was captivated by the sight, and his admiration for the place was evident. The team couldn't help but wonder what they had gotten themselves into, finding themselves in what seemed like a different world altogether.

"So we're now in the fantasy world huh Aasimar?" Carnage deadpanned on the comm.

"Pretty much." I replied, "And Gadget's antics show that he's happy about it."

"And here I thought he was more interested in electronics." Deadeye added.

"I AM more interested in electronics but right now we're in a fantasy world where there are swords, magic, dragons…" Gadget replied in excitement.

"Dragons?! Really Gadget…Really?" Carnage interrupted in annoyance.

While the team bantered, I remained focused on using the cross-com to scan for anything remotely interesting or important. Having known about these fantasy worlds through my old friend Rodrig, who came from a similar world, I was interested in finding out more about the place.

However, as I scanned the area, red dots suddenly appeared on the cross-com, followed by the sounds of a massacre and flames engulfing buildings. The team immediately noticed the same, and their banter quickly died down as they prepared for whatever danger might be lurking nearby. Even though nothing had shown up on the scan for a while, we all knew that things could change in seconds.

"Trouble up ahead. Let's move team!" I said to the team. All of us moved into the town to see what was going on.

When we got into town we saw something that seemed too clichéd for our liking.

Men in ragged clothing with fur coats around them, wielding axes were ransacking the town. Basically brigands, bandits or whatever. There were also some swordsmen and a few guys in fancy cloaks and with books in their hands among them. Mages if I can remember from Rodrig. Gadget of course wanted to talk more about this being proof that we were in a fantasy world, but he knew better. This was no time for joking around.

We quickly took cover with our tactical cloaks still on. I took out the drone and tossed it up, watching as it activated its cloak and stayed in midair before I directed it ahead of us and we all connected to its feed with the cross-com. There were 20 bandits in total causing a ruckus. The leader and nine others were with him at one side of the town while the rest were in the other side of the town not far from us. Most of the civilians had fled from the area and hidden themselves and an unfortunate few had been killed. But it was what came out of the leader's mouth that angered us.

"Haha! Burn it all! Rape the women, whatever you want boys!" The bastard said with a gleeful smile.

From the corner of my eye, I could tell that my team wanted me to give the order to attack the bandits, and I was just as angry as they were. However, before I could give the command, the drone returned to my position, and I retrieved it and put it away. I then turned to face my team.

"Alright team, check your weapons; we've got bandits to put down permanently." I said as we all did a quick check on our weaponry, ensuring that everything was in place and ready for the upcoming battle. I checked my suppressed ACR, which was equipped with a red dot sight, laser sight, and grenade launcher attachment, as well as my trusty Desert Eagle. "We may be in unfamiliar territory but that doesn't mean that we'd let these scumbags do what they want. It's a 5-to-1 odds against us but nothing we can't handle. We're going in silent. Use your weapons sparingly and when necessary since we've got very limited ammo." I turned to our sniper, "Deadeye, you're on over watch, find a good vantage point and have fun."

Deadeye nodded then quickly dashed towards a nearby building, which had a perfect view of the town. She became visible for a moment before using her grappling hook to get on the roof and cloaking again. The rest of us, meanwhile, started to move into the town.

Deadeye's POV

From my vantage point overlooking the town, I had a clear view of the chaos below, including the town center. On my cross-com, I could see my cloaked teammates moving in different directions to take down their assigned targets. Meanwhile, I aimed down the scope of my Barrett M107 sniper rifle at my first victim, a mage with his spell book. I zoomed in on his head and smirked behind my mask, knowing that he was about to meet his demise. Despite his ignorance, I felt no remorse for ending his life. He was nothing but scum, and a trip to hell was all he deserved. I pulled the trigger, and the bullet silently left the barrel and hit its target, obliterating his head, and sending his lifeless body falling to the ground like a sack of potatoes.

"Tango down." I said. Then I spotted a guy with a sword running up to check on the dead mage. I aimed at his skull too and gave him the same treatment. "Another one down."

Soon I heard the faint sound of an explosion going off, telling me that someone decided to ignore the going silent order. I cursed under my breath, knowing that the noise would attract unwanted attention. I quickly switched my focus back to the task at hand, scanning the area for any signs of movement.

Carnage's POV

Me and Gadget moved together towards a house that was unscathed and stayed on the wall, peeking from the corners while cloaked. Seeing no one, Gadget tossed the motion sensor just to be sure. On our Cross-coms, it showed outlines of three people in a house, two with red outlines. From their positions and the following feminine scream, they were up to no good. We both made a quick dash to the house, becoming temporarily visible. We got to the house and pressed against the wall by the door, noticing that the door was locked but the windows were open. As we peeked through a window, we saw something that disgusted us. Two of those barbaric thugs were trying to rape a young woman. Forget going silent here! Wasting no time, we got to the door, and I placed a charge on it.

"Breaching in 3…2…1…NOW!"

The door was blasted in, with the loud sound and explosion catching the three people off guard while we got rushed in. Gadget blasted the tango on the right with his CAWS, splattering his blood all over the wall and I double tapped the one on the left with my USP45. With both dead we went to check on the woman and saw her with her eyes open but blank, meaning that she was blind, and she was shaking in fear.

"It's alright. You're safe now." Gadget said to the woman, reassuring her. She stopped shaking and nodded to him though she was still a little scared.

"Alright we're clear here. We've still got to deal with the rest of these scums." I said after seeing that there were no enemies nearby with the cross-com. We both cloaked and walked out of the house, leaving the woman behind.

Aasimar's POV

As I got behind a building, I activated my adaptive camo and pressed myself against the wall. Suddenly, I heard two suppressed shots which meant that Deadeye had already taken down two targets. A swordsman came over to inspect the lifeless mage, but soon met the same fate as the others. After that, I noticed two axe-wielding bandits and a swordsman heading my way. I waited patiently for them to pass, drew out my combat knife, and grabbed the swordsman from behind, covering his mouth before silently slitting his throat. Then, I took out my ACR and shot the other two bandits in the back of their heads, dropping them instantly. Luckily, the muted shots were drowned out by the roar of the flames from a nearby burning building.

As I moved ahead, my eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, searching for any potential threats. That's when I noticed a swordsman, a bandit, and a mage gathered at the fountain in the center of the town. Quickly, I took cover, not wanting to alert them to my presence.

As I waited, my cross-com beeped, indicating incoming communication. I checked it and saw that Carnage and Gadget had shown up, most likely having dealt with their objectives.

"See them Aasimar?" Carnage contacted me.

"Yes." I replied, "Met any of the opposition?"

"We took out two of them with less than noble intentions for a woman." Gadget answered with disgust, "What about you, Lead?"

"Bagged three a few seconds ago." I said, "Now let's take out these three together."

Soon, three beams of light were aimed, each pointing at the heads of the three enemies at the fountain.

"On my mark…" I said after all shots were lined up, "Fire!"

In a smooth sequence we all drilled the three unsuspecting enemies in the head and ended their scummy lives.

"Tangos down." I said, "On me everyone." Soon I saw Gadget and Carnage show up visible on my position. Then a minute later Deadeye showed up.

"That should be all of these ones on this side." I said.

"Seems like it ma'am. Time to deal with the rest-" Deadeye was interrupted by the sound of fighting on the other side of the town, where the other bandits and their leader were.

"Looks like someone's engaging the other bandits." Gadget said.

"Let's go and see what's going on." I said. We all cloaked again and moved towards where the fight was going on.

We stealthily arrived at the other side of town and saw a group of four people opposing the remaining bandits and their leader.

"Looks like that group's dealing with these fuckers." Carnage said.

"Should we give them assistance?" Deadeye asked.

"No, let's watch first. We'll only act if necessary." I replied.

As we observed their battle, it was easy to distinguish who the assaults and supports were. I could see the man on horseback, clad in light blue armor, and the blue-haired man with an ornate sword were the main attackers, charging headfirst into the fray. On the other hand, the young girl with her staff at the ready and the white-haired male throwing lightning bolts were the supports, staying back and providing backup.

I couldn't help but notice Gadget ready to scream in ecstasy at the sight of someone firing spells, while Carnage and Deadeye watched with wide eyes, impressed by what they were seeing.

As the battle raged on, it became apparent that the man throwing lightning bolts was the one calling the shots, barking orders to the others.

'The group's tactician huh? Good to see someone who understands the importance of strategy.' I thought with a smile hidden behind my mask, and watched the battle unfold. However, my attention was soon drawn to something else about the man giving orders. There was something ominous about him that I sensed, a feeling that suggested there was more to him than what met the eye. Nonetheless, I decided to file away that observation for another time and focus on the battle at hand.

It wasn't long until there was only the bandit leader left. The group all stood at the ready, while the defiant bandit held his ground with an enraged glare, "How dare you kill my men!? I'll make you all sorry!"

"They've got this in the bag Aasimar. No point in staying here." Gadget stated. I almost agreed with him, but my attention was diverted by the sight of a girl walking onto the scene. I knew right away that this spelled trouble, and I remained on high alert.

Unfortunately, my intuition proved to be correct when one of the bandits spotted the child and rushed towards her. He grabbed her, using her as a hostage and causing the situation to escalate rapidly.

"Shit! A hostage situation." Carnage cursed, "Looks like we have to take action after all."

"And risk exposing ourselves to the natives here." Gadget added.

"So you prefer us to do nothing?" Deadeye asked.

"I never said that."

"We're helping either ways." I said with finality, "Everyone get ready. I'm tossing in a flash."

As the others took cover, I swiftly took out a flashbang from my arsenal and tossed it over towards the bandit, making sure it landed in front of him before diving into cover myself. The sound of the flashbang going off was followed by the bandit's screams of pain, giving us an opportunity to pop out of cover and line our shots on the disoriented bandit who had released the girl and was staggering back.

Together, we filled the bastard full of lead with our weapons, unleashing a barrage of bullets until we were sure he was no longer a threat. After five seconds of sustained fire, we stopped and surveyed the result of our efforts. The bandit was a bloody mess, riddled with bullet holes all over his body and head.

Suddenly, we heard a gasp and turned to see the young girl with the staff pointing at us, with the other combatants looking at us in shock. It was evident that we had blown our anonymity. Without hesitation, we activated our adaptive camo and vanished from their sights, making ourselves scarce immediately.

However, little did we know that this was just the beginning of what was to come.
