AN: I know this episode takes place when Eren is in the Cadet Corps. Thinking it happens a year sooner.
Chapter 4
Being Sneaky
"But dad!" Kara stomped her foot as she stood in Levi's office. It's been a year since now since Levi adopted her as his daughter and he swears she was a fifteen year old trapped in a elven year olds body. She was smart for her age. She was gonna give him grey hair at this rate.
"No, Kara. Your not going on the mission. You got one more year before you join the Cadet Core." Levi said. She stuck her lower lip out. It worked on some of the Squad. "Tch. That doesn't work on me, brat, and you know it." Kara storms out of the room. Levi facepalmed.
"Just wait till she's a teenager and bringing boyfriends back to meet you." Erwin said, entering the room. Levi glared at the Commander on those words.
"She's gonna be the death of me, isn't she?" Levi asked. Erwin chuckled.
Kara stomped towards Hange's room and knocked. Hange pulled her in.
"Let me guess. The answer is still no." Hange said. Kara sighed as she sat down on the couch with a pout on her face. Hange couldn't help but chuckle. The girl was a mini Levi at times. Hange goes behind her desk and pulls out a survey corps cape. "Your still coming. Your going to help me catch a Titan." Kara grinned.
"How are you going to sneak me in without dad noticing?" Kara asked, raising an eyebrow.
"We'll sneak you in one of the wagons under a tarp. You should be safe in there." Hange said.
'Dad's gonna have a stroke if I go or feed Hange to the Titan we catch. Heaven help me, but I want to go.' Kara thought.
"Dad's gonna kill you." Kara said.
"I can handle shorty." Hange said. Kara snorted. Her dad could be scary when pissed off at Recruits and when Hange gets on his nerves. "So? Want to go tomorrow?"
"And if we get caught. Its your idea." Kara said. Hange shook her head at Kara.
"Fine." Hange said. Kara ran towards Hange and hugged her.
"Thank you." Kara said.
"Come on. Try this on to make sure it fits." Hange said. Kara grabbed the Scouts cape and put it on. It was a little big, but it fit. "I stole one of shorty's for you. He shouldn't miss it. By the way whose suppose to be watching you when we're on the mission?"
"Some new recruit." Kara said.
"Perfect. I'll find out who and talk to her so she or he doesn't tattle." Hange said. Kara took off the cape and held it in her hands.
"We're gonna get in trouble." Kara said.
"I'll take all the blame." Hange said. Kara smirked. She headed to her room.
The next day. Kara hid under a tarp as the bells rang. She kept the hood of her cloak up. She lifted the tarp a bit. She saw her father and Hange up by the Commander. She heard movement and quickly took cover as one of the soldiers got in the seat. Kara peaked back out.
Hange looked back to see Kara's blue eyes peaking out of the tarp. There was excitement in them. She had to bribe the babysitter Erwin had put in charge of babysitting Kara with doing chores for the whole month to get her not to blab. Long as Levi didn't kill her for doing this.
"Thirty seconds to the gate opening!" Erwin shouted. Kara looked up. "All hands, prepare to depart!"
"Oh, I can't stand the waiting." Hange groaned. She looked at Levi. "Hey, Levi!"
"The answer's no!" Levi said.
"I haven't said anything yet." Hange said. Kara had to bite her lips from giggling.
"You want me to help you capture a Titan, right? I don't care to go to that kind of trouble." Levi said. Hange gasped then looked at Miche.
"What about you, Miche? You want in?" Hange asked. Miche looked away. Hang sighed and looked at the sky. "As always, boring men with their boring responses." Kara giggled and Levi heard something. Kara quickly got under the tarp as Levi turned towards her direction. "What is it, Levi?"
"I thought I heard Kara. Tch. I don't see the brat." Levi said. Hange gulped.
'Keep quiet Kara. Don't want you being found till its to late.' Hange thought. The gate started to open.
"The 40th expedition beyond the walls now begins!" Erwin said. The gate comes to a stop. "Advance!" Kara felt the wagon jolt under her as they got moving through the gate.
"Wahoo." Hange said, speeding past Erwin.
"Hange!" Erwin yelled.
"All you Titans, here I come to see you!" Hange called. Levi growled.
'Father was right. She is crazy at times.' Kara thought.
It took sometime and Kara heard screams as some soldiers were killed by Titans. Kara laid on her stomach, trying not to get thrown around by the bumps. They arrived at whre they were doing the staging.
"Kara." Hange whispered, peaking in. Kara lifted the tarp a bit. "Good your still here. Stay here and I'll come get you when ready." Kara nodded and went back under the tarp. Hange disappeared, hoping no one will unload the cart quite yet.
"This wagon hasn't been unloaded?" Levi's voice asked. Kara picked up her head.
"Crap." Kara whispered.
"Section Commander said not to unload it yet." A scout said. Levi sighed.
"Get it unloaded. We got other things to do." Levi said. Someone got into the wagon. "Hey where did this tarp come from." The tarp was pulled off and Kara looked up wide eyed at the Scout. His eyes widen.
"What?" Levi said.
"Um. Captain. Did you make sure your daughter was with her babysitter." The Scout asked. Levi's eyes widen and he got into the wagon.
"Kara." Levi said, eyes landing on Kara.
"Hi dad." Kara whispered. Levi grabbed her arm gently and pulled her up.
"I'm going to kill Four eyes." Levi growled. They jumped from the wagon. Scouts moved out of the way seeing the look of fury on Levi's face.
"I'm not in trouble?" Kara asked.
"Did you ask Four Eyes to sneak you in?" Levi asked.
"No." Kara said.
"Then no." Levi said. Eld and Gunther was heading their way and their eyes widen when they see Levi dragging Kara, who had a scout cape on. Both their eyes widen.
"Kara. How?" Eld asked.
"Where's Four eyes?" Levi said.
"With the Commander. Trying to convince him to capture a Titan." Gunther said. Levi headed for the tent. Petra and Oluo were standing out by the tent. Hange was arguing with Erwin but both froze when Levi enters dragging Kara.
"Levi and.. Kara?" Erwin asked. Levi let Kara go.
"Care to explain Hange when you know from Erwin and I that she is NOT allowed on missions." Levi growled. He looked at Erwin. "Found her stored away in one of the wagons under a tarp. When I left the Scout watching her said she was still sleeping." Kara looked down.
"I am at fault. I told her I could sneak her in so she could see a Titan and bribed the Scout to lie to us by taking her chores." Hange said.
"I'll have you cleaning the HQ spotless for this." Levi said. Erwin sighed.
"We will talk punishment when we get back. Its to late to send her back. We are to far from the wall." Erwin said. Levi was glaring at Hange.
"Petra!" Levi called. Petra ran in.
"Captain?" Petra said.
"Your in charge of Kara till we head back. Don't let her out of your sight." Levi ordered.
"Sir." Petra said. Kara stepped out with Petra as her dad stared down Hange.
"Can't believe, crazy thought to bring the kid around." Oluo grumbled. Kara put a hand on her arm. Now she felt bad for coming. Her father was mad at Hange for bringing her and Erwin didn't look pleased. Erwin came out with Levi and Hange followed. Hange came up to Kara.
"Sorry, Hange for getting you in trouble." Kara said.
"No biggie, kiddo. I told you I would take the blame." Hange said.
"She's small enough for Titan food, Hange. You should of listened to the Commander and Captain." Petra said.
"We can still do it." Oluo said. Kara and Petra glared at Oluo. "Nah. I wouldn't do that to the brat. Captain would kill me." A gunshot rings out and Kara sees red.
"One in the trees." Miche yells. Kara yelped as Hange scoops her up under her arms. Petra's eyes widen.
"Let's go Kara." Hange yelled as she ran for her horse and tossed Kara on and jumped on behind her.
"Hange. Don't you dare!" Levi yelled.
"I'll go help myself, Erwin!" Hange yelled and took off into the forest.
"Hange. Wait." Erwin called. He turned and saw Levi already on his horse. "Levi!"
"Tch." Levi said. He took off after Hange with his squad right behind him. He was gonna feed four eyes to the Titan
Kara held onto the horn of the saddle as Hange rode fast into the woods.
"Hange. You sure on this." Kara whispered. Hange chuckled. Kara bit her bottom lip. They rode and Kara gasped when they saw a body of a Titan standing by a tree.
"Found you!" Hange called. The Titan looked at them. "Hello! Nice weather today!" Hange rode past it and the Titan started running after the horse. "That's the way." Kara looked back to see the Titan catching up.
"Um. Do you have any plans on how to capture him, Hange?" Kara asked. Hange frowned. "You don't, do you?" Hange didn't answer.
"Hey, listen. Since you're taking a walk, why not come with me inside the wall?" Hange said. Kara gasped as the Titan reached a hand out to Hange. "How about it?" Hange and Kara duck as the Titan swipes at them and Hange moves the horse away. "That was close!"
'I'm gonna die.' Kara thought. A crash came and Kara saw that the Titan ran into the tree.
"Oh, man. Are you okay?" Hange asked. The Titan walked and ran into another tree. Kara's eyes widen. "Come this way!" Hang comes out into a clearing and the Titan bursts out of the forest. "That's right. Good boy!" A red smoke goes by the Titan. Kara looked and saw Levi and his squad riding in the other direction.
"This way, stupid." Levi said.
"Dad!" Kara called. Levi shot her a look. She saw worry on his face for her.
"Hey. Don't interfere!" Hang called. The Titan looks confused and continues running after Hange.
"It still wants Hange." Eld said. Levi grit his teeth.
"Captain. I'm sorry. I should of grabbed her." Petra said.
"I'm not mad at you, Petra." Levi said.
The Titan started to slow down.
"Hange. It stopped again." Kara said. Hange turned the horse around. The Titan looked around. Kara raised an eyebrow at it. It was acting strange. The Titan turned and ran back towards the forest. "What the heck."
"Hey! Wait a minute!" Hange called. She kicked the side of the horse and went after it. The Titan wasn't paying attention to the horse as Hange caught up to it. "Hey. Where're you going?" Levi's squad rode after them.
"What's that big dumbass doing, runing on home?" Oluo said. He screamed as he bit his tongue again as he went to say more.
"Even if it's an Abnormal there's something strange about it!" Petra said.
"Yeah, it doesn't match any pattern that's been reported this far!" Eld said.
"Well, doesn't the fact that it diverges from every patter make it an Abnormal?" Gunther asked.
"It doesn't matter." Levi said. He pulls out his sword. "We'll kill it. Get Kara out of there and away from it as fast as possible!"
"Sir." His squad said.
The Titan kept running. Kara wondered where he was going. He didn't even look back at her and Hange.
'Where is he going?' Kara thought. They come into a clearing in the woods by a huge tree. The Titan just stares at the tree. He starts banging his head against the tree. Hange gets off the horse.
"Kara. Stay on the horse." Hange said, handing her the reins. Kara watched as the Titan continues to slam its head into the tree. "What's the matter?" Hange grabs the handle to her ODM gear. "What are you doing?" Hange walks towards the Titan.
"Hange." Kara called, gripping the reins of the horse tight.
"Is this the place you were trying to reach?" Hange asked. The Titan growled. Kara screamed as it goes to attack Hange and Hange uses the hooks to get up onto a tree branch. Hange almost laughs. "Close call!" The Titan was moving his hands and Hange jumps to the ground. "What is it? What's wrong?"
'She's nuts.' Kara thought.
"I'm listening." Hange said as she walks towards it. The Titan was growling. A hook connects to the Titans neck.
"Oluo." Kara said as he gets up behind him.
"Got him." Oluo said.
"Oluo, wait." Hange yells. Oluo freezes.
"What?" Oluo asked.
"Kara." Petra said, coming riding over and grabbing Hange's horses reins. "You alright." Kara nodded and gasped as the Titan grabs Oluo and starts taking him towards his mouth. Oluo screams like a girl. A blur comes flying and slices the Titan's hand off.
"Dad!" Kara called, reconizing Levi as he connects to the nape and flies as the Titan with speed and slices through its nape. The Titan falls to the ground dead. Levi lands on the ground. Kara jumps off the horse and runs towards Levi. He wipes the blood off his sword.
"Tch." Levi said. He looks at Oluo. "You okay?" Oluo looks at Levi with tears running down his face as he still lays in the Titan's hand.
"Captain. I'll follow you for life!" Oluo said. Kara threw her arms around Levi.
"That was amazing." Kara said. Levi shook his head as he looked at Kara.
"You alright?" Levi asked.
"I'm fine." Kara said. Levi ruffled her hair, making her giggle. Hange fell to her knees.
"But this little one was my precious test subject!" Hange said. Levi put his sword away and pushed Kara to Petra for a minute and heads over to Hange. "If we had just captured it, humanity might have taken a step forward!" Levi grabbed Hange by the collar of her cape and pulled her towards him.
"Quiet, you damn four eyes! If you want to become Titan shit, I won't stop you. But don't expose subordinates to danger! And don't take my daughter with you next time or I will feed you personally to the Titans myself." Levi said.
"Dad is scary when he's mad." Kara said. Petra nodded as Hange gasps.
"Titan's don't defecate. Because they don't have digestive organs." Hange said. Levi shoves Hange away from him. Petra looks towards a tree and gasps.
"Um.. Captain." Petra said.
"What is it?" Levi asked.
"Do you.. suppose the Titan did that? No, I mean, how could it?" Petra said.
"What is it, already?" Levi asked. Petra points at a tree and Kara looks with the others. Kara gasped. A headless body was sitting in the tree that the Titan had been hitting its head on. Oluo screams. Hange walks over to the body and looks at the armband.
"A 34th expedition armband.. This soldier died a year ago." Hange said. Kara saw something brown on the ground and went to pick it up. It was a journal. "Name of.. Ilse Langnar."
"Brat. What do you have?" Levi asked. Kara turned and held the book out.
"This was laying by the tree. Must of fallen out." Kara said as Levi came up to her. He took the book and looked through the pages.
"What is it?" Hange said.
"This is.. Ilse Langnar's military achievements." Levi said. The others looked surprise. "Let's head back to the Commander. Brat. Your with me."
"Yes, dad." Kara said.
Couple days later. Kara sat at the table in the mess hall doing some homework that the Scouts had given her. She was learning schoolwork. Hange had been reading the Journal and Kara had got to read some of it. Hange was still going to convice Erwin to capture Titans. Kara hoped he would after reading the Journal.
Levi came in and found Kara hard at work. Hange's punishment was doing the Scout that was suppose to be watching Kara's chores for a week and Kara was not permitted till she joined the Cadet Corps to go outside the wall with Scouts till she was a full on Scout, which she was fine with.
"Kara." Levi said. Kara looked up.
"What is it, dad?" Kara said.
"Hange got approved for capturing Titans." Levi said. Kara's eyes lit up and she ran and hugged her dad. He returned it.
"I'm glad she got it. Can I help with the experiments?" Kara asked. Levi's eyes widen.
"You can watch, but your not going to be helping." Levi said.
Twenty days later with the help of the Levi Squad succeeded in capturing the first Titan since the fall of Wall Maria. At that time, a new capture process devised by Hange was used and no life was lost with it. Kara's studies and training got further and she was helping Hange with the test subjects under the watchful eye of Levi or his squad. But Kara was ready for it to be her time to join the Cadet Corps and become a Scout.
