Chapter 11

Fight for Trost

The evacuation of Trost was going as planned. Kara stood on one of the roofs. Titans had come into the area but was quickly wiped out. Kara's mind was somewhere else as her eyes scanned the area. Her lips tingled yet from the kiss she got from Jean. She was seriously gonna kick his ass when she got her hands on him. Mikasa landed on the roof next to her.

"A wagon is blocking the exit." Mikasa said. Kara's eyes went towards the wall to see Mikasa was right. People were waiting to get through. Kara sighed.

"Its gonna take longer to get the people through." Kara said. Mikasa nodded in agreement. Mikasa noticed the far off look on Kara's face.

"Still thinking of that kiss Jean gave you." Mikasa said. Kara's checks flushed. "You guys should talk when this is over."

"I plan to after I kick his ass for doing that to me." Kara grumbled. Mikasa chuckled. "I just hope he's alright." Kara looked back towards where Jean and their friends are.

"I'm sure he's fine. Don't worry about him. He's a strong soldier." Mikasa said. Kara nodded. Loud footsteps came and Kara and Mikasa saw an abnormal heading for the gate. Both jump off the roof and take off after it. People screamed as it rounded the corner. Three soldiers were after it.

"Someone wanna tell me why the son of a bitch is ignoring us?"

"It's an Abnormal; stop trying to figure him out! He's too fast! There's no way we'll overtake him before he reaches the gate."

"Just stay on him!"

Mikasa and Kara flew by them.

"Get the legs." Mikasa called. Kara latched onto the back and flew towards him and sliced his legs. He starts falling and Mikasa swoops in and slices his neck. The abnormal falls and lands on the ground. Kara and Mikasa land on top of him. Mikasa looked at her blades, but Kara's eyes were on the wagon still stuck in the gate.

"Excuse me. What is all this?" Kara said.

"Couldn't have asked for a better timing! Force these useless morons to push my wagon! I'll pay you handsomely!" The Merchant said. Kara gritted her teeth as Mikasa looked at the wagon. She pointed back towards the city.

"Seriously? Soldiers are dying back there. Laying down their lives for you. All because this is taking to long." Mikasa said.

"Yeah, that's their job. You expect me to shed a tear because they gotta fulfill the duites they signed up for? They're supposed to be willing to lay down their lives. Don't get all high-handed on me just because you finally gotta earn your damn keep after all these years!" The Merchant said. Kara lowered her eyes and jump off the Titan. Mikasa watched as Kara walked towards the Merchant. People moved out of the way.

"Yeah. No arguing with that. You're absolutely right, sir. Guess it's what you call the greater good. Still. Sometimes it's not the life or the death of a soldier that makes the biggest difference." Kara said. Two of his guards got in front of the Merchant.

"Don't you even dare! Your commander and I are old friends! One word from me and you'll be court marshaled!" The Merchant said. The men charged at her. Kara used her swords to knock them out of her way. The Merchant looked scared.

"You sure you want to. I'm the daugther of Captain Levi. You lay a hand on me and you'll find out how pissed my father will get. So. That word gonna come from beyond the grave?" Kara asked. The Merchant's eyes widen in fear at her words. He gritted his teeth.

"Sir, maybe we should.."

"Pull the damn wagon out." The Merchant said. Kara turned and walked back to Mikasa as the wagon was pulled out and people started to file out. Mikasa and Kara stood watching as they left.

"You're amazing!" A young girl shouted. Kara and Mikasa looked at her.

"You've save out lives, both of you. All of us are in your debt." The mother said. Mikasa and Kara put their swords away and put their hands over their hearts in salute. The girl smiled as Kara and Mikasa walked away. It was starting to rain. Kara lifted her face to the sky, feeling the rain hit her face as her and Mikasa get on the roof where Ian and others were waiting.

"Good work. I'm impressed." Ian said.

"We did what we could here, sir. But, thank you." Kara said.

"I need to be a bit more careful in the future. I inadvertently dulled both of my blades. I'll do better next time." Mikasa said.

"What on earth have you had to live through to be non-chalant." Ian said. Mikasa looked at him. Kara kind of knew that her paretns were both killed and the Jaegers took her in. "I'm sorry. That was uncalled for." Mikasa brought her scarf up to her face and looked away as if she was remembering a distant memory.

They took off down the streets with the others. Mikasa and Kara were flying together. Kara ran across a builidng, dodging out a Titan's reach and she soared around. She attached her hooks onto its nape and yelled as she slashed through the nape. It fell to the ground. Mikasa took out another Titan. Kara sent hooks flying and went in for another kill with the Titan. The area was soon cleared of Titans as the bells started to ring.

"That's it. We're done. Now scale the wall!" Ian called.

"I should help the Vanguard escape. Kara you coming?" Mikasa asked. Kara nodded and they both took off.

"Ackerman! Wait!" Ian called, but they were gone. The sky was started to clear as they head to find the vanguard.

"Shit the HQ is being overrun!" Kara called, seeing Titan surrounding it.

"Let's find the Vanguard. I'm almost out of gas." Mikasa said.

Jean sat on the roof with the others. Sasha was trying to encourage recruits to fight.

'Can't believe this is how its gonna end. I even haven't told Kara how I feel. I just kissed her and left her stunned. I'm such an idiot.' Jean thought. Conny saw Jean's look.

"We'll get out of this Jean so you can talk to Kara. She was fuming after you kissed her." Conny said with a smirk on his face.

"Don't make me push you off the roof." Jean said as Conny started laughing. Mikasa and Kara land on the roof.

"Mikasa! Kara! Weren't you with the Rearguard?" A cadet yelled as Mikasa ran towards Annie. Kara looked and saw Jean sitting on the roof. Conny stopped laughing and kicked Jean.

"Annie!" Mikasa called as Jean looked at Kara as she approached him. Annie turned to look at Mikasa. "I know how bad things have gotten. It's selfish. Putting personal matters in the forefront, but have you seen Eren's squad?"

"Some squads made it back. But I don't know about Eren's." Annie said.

"We found Armin." Reiner said. He points back to where Armin was sitting. "He's over there." Mikasa goes towards him.

"Kara. I.." Jean grunted as Kara punched him in the face. Conny and Marco flinched. "Damnit Kara. What the hell was that for?" Jean got in her face.

"I should be asking you the same thing. You kiss me and then go running off without an explanation and just that we will talk later." Kara yelled. Some of the cadets gasp. Reiner and Bertholdt eyes widen. Jean and Kara stared each other down. Kara heard something from Armin about all of Eren's squad were wiped out and that he was the only survivor.

'So much death and Jean and I are fighting.' Kara thought.

"Kara. I.."

"On your feet." Mikasa said, pulling Armin to his feet. Kara looked away from Jean as Mikasa started walking.

"Marco. If we eliminate or bypass the Titans at HQ we can there refuel our gear, allowing us to get back over the wall. Is that assessment correct?" Mikasa said.

"Well.. Uh yeah I guess so, sure. But there's just to many of them out there. Even with you on point." Marco said.

"Kara and I can do it." Mikasa said. Jean and Marco's eyes widen.

"What?" Marco asked.

"I'm strong. Real strong. So is Kara." Mikasa said. She lifts up her sword. "None of you come close. You hear me? I am a warrior. Know this. I have the power to slay all of the Titans that block our path. Even if Kara and I have to do it alone. As far as I'm concerned, I am surrounded by a bunch of unskilled, cowardly worms." She points the sword at everyone. "You disappoint me. You can just sit here and twiddle your thumbs, and watch how it's done."

"Wait, Mikasa. Are you out of your mind? That's crazy!"

"You can't be serious! Trying to take them out by yourself?"

"There's no way you can hope to beat them." Kara stepped up to Mikasa.

"I'm ready to go when you are." Kara said. Mikasa gave her a small smile.

"Kara. Don't be an idiot." Jean said. Kara glared at him.

"If I can't beat them, then I die. But, if I win, I live." Mikasa said. She turned her back on the others. "And the only way to win is to fight! Mikasa jumped off the roof and took off. Kara jumped off and went after her.

"Hey!" Marco called. Jean clenched his jaw. His check still stung from the punch.

"You know, I was expecting something more motivational. Your way with words was kind of a let down. I blame everything about this on you, Eren!" Jean said. He lifted his arm. "Hey! Don't just stand there! We weren't taught to let our comrades fight alone! Unless you are a coward, in which case stay out of my way!" Jean ran and jumped off the roof, going after his friends. Conny ran after him. Yells came from other cadets. Mikasa slashed through a Titan. She was moving faster then Kara. "Hurry up! Follow Mikasa! Avoid fighting, if you can. And get to HQ before you run out of gas!" Jean came to Kara's side.

"Not a chicken anymore." Kara said, eying him.

"Shut up." Jean growled.

"Whoa, Mikasa is a badass!" Conny called from behind. Kara and Jean looked at Mikasa. "How is she going so fast?"

"She's using to much gas." Jean called.

"Damn it." Kara said. Mikasa kept slicing through the Titans till she fell out of the sky.

"Mikasa!" Armin yelled, going after her.

"Damnit!" Jean growled.

"Jean. Kara. You lead the rest to HQ! I'm going after Armin!" Conny said.

"I'll go with you." Jean said.

"Don't be stupid! There are still Titans everywhere!" Conny said. Kara hooked onto the nape of a Titan and slashes through the neck. Jean's eyes widen. "You've gotta help the others!" Conny went after Armin.

"Jean. Come on." Kara called as she ran across the roof. Jean landed and quickly followed her.

At HQ. Kara and Jean stood side by side as they look at HQ. Titans were climbing on top of it.

"It's no use. We're not getting anywhere near Headquarters. Unless, of course, we don't mind dying." Jean said. Titans walked down below them and one was scratching at the wall. A cadet was whimpering as he stood on the street. His hooks were connected to the building. He was out of gas. Kara gasps as a Titan runs towards him.

"Stay back!" The Cadet yelled.

"Tom! I'll save you!" Another yells and flies in.

"No wait!" Jean yelled. The Cadet cries as the Titan takes him to his mouth. Kara goes to help, but Jean grabs her as the Cadet that goes to save Tom is grabbed. Kara held onto Jean as they watched as both are taken towards the Titans mouths. Kara turned her head into Jean's chest. Levi had warned her that she would face death when she joined the Scouts, but she didn't think it would be this soon. Jean heard more screams.

"I wasn't meant to lead." Jean said. Kara looked up at him. "I'm the last person that should've been given the reigns!" Kara flinched as more screams came. Jean tighened his hold on his swords as everyone watched.

"Jean." Kara said. He looks at her. "We have to find a way to get to HQ. We stay here, more Titans will gather." Jean clenched his jaw. Her gray eyes were looking at him. He knew she was right.

"I know that. We need an opening." Jean said. Titans were around a body. Jean's eyes widen. "There preoccupied. We can chance it now." Kara nodded. Jean let her go. "Let's go!" Everyone looks at Jean. "Make a break for HQ while they're distracted!" Jean and Kara jump off the roof and they both ran across the roof heading for HQ. The others soon follow. Jean was leading as they ran.

'We can do this.' Jean thought.

"Give it everything you got!" Kara yelled as they jumped to another roof. They ran and jumped to soar through the air.

"Don't attack any Titans. Save your gas, Kara." Jean said. Kara nodded as they came upon the Titans. They fly fly right past. One grabs Jean, making Kara gasp. Jean slices the fingers and breaks free. Jean and Marco land on the roof and Kara lands behind them as they ran.

"Jean!" Marco said. Jean looked at Marco. "You really came through for us there, man; we owe you big time." Marco said.

"Huh." Jean said. Kara came running up so she was running beside Jean.

"He's right. Don't shrug if off. We're alive because of you. You make a great leader." Kara said. Jean's face softened when he looked at her. She was smiling at him. Kara wasn't angry at him anymore. He smiled.

"Easy with that crap. We're not outta this yet!" Jean said. They sent hooks flying and dodged out of Titans swiping at them. A cadet screams as one is grabbed. Jean grit his teeth. "Damnit!" Jean yells and crashes through the window of HQ and hit the ground. Jean gets up and looks to see Kara and the others crash through the other windows and landed on the ground. Jean looked at everyone. "How many.. How many of us made it?" His eyes land on Kara. She was brushing glass off her. She looked at Jean as he put a hand to his head. She came over.

"Jean. We're all alright." Kara said. Jean nodded. He saw a movement and looked to see two cadets hiding under a desk. Both were crying.

"Hold on a sec. You guys with the supply team?" Jean asked.

"Yeah." The guy said. Jean grabbed the male cadet out by the collar. Jean punched him in the face.

"Jean." Kara grabbed him and pulled him back from trying to punch the guy. Jean was glaring at the two cadets as Kara held him back.

"You cowards! You left us out there on our own! People are dead, because you didn't have the guts to do your job!" Jean yelled. The feamle ran over to protect the guy.

"The Titans were coming at us from every angle! They overran the supply room, okay?" The Female said.

"It's your job to dead with it and back us up anyway!" Jean said.

"Jean. Calm down!" Kara said. Jean pulled freed, but Kara kept a hand on his arm. A sound comes. Kara looked back.

"Hit the deck!" Reiner yelled. An explosion comes and Jean grabbed Kara and pulled her out of the way as rocks go flying.

"Jean!" Kara yelled, pointing. A Titan head was poking through the hole.

"Son of a.. There's to many people! They can smell us!" Jean said. Soldiers go running, screaming. Jean stood there in shock.

"Jean. Snap out of it." Kara said, shaking him. He just stood there, looking at the Titans in shock. "Jean. Stay with me." Jean looked at her. He saw fear in her eye as she clutched his shirt. Marco gasps. Kara and Jean look back at the Titans to see a fist collide with one of the Titans.

"What?" Jean said as another titan appears and punches the two Titans to the ground. A Titan with brown hair and pointy ears stood at the hole. Kara's eyes widen as the Titan roars.

"What the?" Marco said.

'A Titan fighting other Titans? What the hell is going on.' Kara thought as the Titan turned to face the other Titans.
