Chapter 17

Friends Reunited

It was the day before the mission. Kara and Eren were cleaning the stables. The recruits would be here soon and Kara was eager to see who was joining them. Eren was shoveling the poop as Kara laid out hay for the horses to eat. They finished up and stepped outside. Oluo was sipping his mug. People walked past and Kara saw Sasha and Conny.

"Sasha. Conny." Kara ran towards them.

"Kara!" Sasha yelled and jumped on her, hugging her. "I missed you." Kara grunted as Conny collided with her back and hugged her. Mikasa and Armin were talking to Eren.

"Hey Kara." Christa said, coming over with Ymir. Bertholdt and Reiner were with them.

"Eren." Reiner called. Eren looked and saw them all around Kara. Eren came over with his friends.

"Wait your all here. Does that mean that you're joining the Scouts?" Eren asked.

"Well, yeah. Why else would we be here?" Conny asked.

"Of course. So then Jean, Annie, and Marco went to the Military Police then?" Eren asked as footsteps come behind him.

"No. Just Marco and Annie." Jean's voice came. Kara looked and smiled to see Jean with a few other Cadets.

"Jean." Kara said. Jean gave her a smile.

"Wait a sec. You joined to?" Eren asked in surprise.

"Well of course. I think I got more potential here then with the Military Police." Jean said. Jean looked at Kara. He was happy to see her and her eyes had lit up when she saw him among the cadets.

"Alright, rookies! Form up! Your uniforms are here!" Ness called from the stairs to the castle. The recruits line up and take the Scouting Capes from Ness and put them on. Kara and Eren stood watching as they stood with the capes billowing in the wind.

Dinnertime. Kara and Eren sat with their friends instead of the Levi Squad. Kara sat next to Sasha and Jean.

"So you'll be with Levi's squad during the mission?" Conny asked.

"Yes." Kara said. Jean didn't seem to happy about it but kept quiet. Conny saw how close the two were sitting but they weren't looking at each other. Levi seemed to be glaring at the two from across the mess hall.

"Damn. I don't think I saw the Captain glare at the recruits like that." Gunther said.

"Its the boy that Kara kissed after Trost was reclaimed." Eld said.

"They do look cute." Oluo said earning a kick from Levi. "Ow."

"She's defenty making friends more. Least maybe found love." Petra said. Levi picked up his mug of tea.

"He better treat her good." Levi said. The others eyes widen.

"Will you two kiss already!" Sasha's voice rang through the mess hall. Jean and Kara glared at Sasha and Levi lowered his eyes. "What you two are so adorable and Jean's been sulking since you joined the.." Conny shoved a piece of bread in Sasha's mouth to shut her up.

"Sulking?" Kara asked, lifting an eyebrow at Jean.

"Exuse me." Jean said, getting up and leaving the mess hall. Kara watched him go.

"Great Sasha. You made it uncomfortable for the two." Eren grumbled. Sasha just shrugged.

Later that night. Kara sat in her father's office as he finished some paperwork. The Recruits were catching up with Eren down in the storage room. Kara decided to spend the last night of mission with her father like old times before she joined the Cadet Corps. She was quiet then normal as she reclined on the couch with a book in her hand.

"Shouldn't you be with your friends, brat?" Levi asked, not looking up.

"And miss our old times?" Kara aked. Levi looked at her.

"You look bored brat. I'll see you tomorrow." Levi said. Kara got up and hugged her father. Levi returned it and Kara walked out. Kara was not sure where her friends were and went to head towards the mess hall.

"Damnit." Jean's voice came from the room next to her room. Kara pushed the door open to see Jean with his back to her.

"Jean?" Kara asked. Jean nearly jumped, having not heard the door open. Jean turned and saw Kara standing there. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Jean said turning away from her.

"You don't say damnit without a reason, Jean. What's up." Kara said, grabbing his arm. The bedroom door closed as the two stood in silence. "Jean." Jean looked at her. She saw anger clearly on his face.

"What's wrong? You kiss me after we take back Trost then leave to help your father and disappear." Jean said.

"You kissed me right before we were to fight the Titans. I think that was kind of payback. And how was I suppose to know that Erwin was going to pull me into the Scouts on my father's team to help with Eren. Besides. You were dead set on joining the MPs. So why are you mad at me?" Kara said.

"Because I love you." Jean said. Kara's eyes widen. "I've waited a month to tell you. A long miserable one. But your to stubburn to realize..." Kara threw her arms around Jean's neck and pressed her lips against his. His body relaxed as his arms snaked around her waiste and pulled her against his chest. They pulled apart. Kara looked up at him.

"I love you too, Horseface." Kara said. Jean smiled.

"Stop calling me that, pipsqueak." Jean said. Kara shoved him playfully. Jean pulled her to his bed and they cuddled together. "Just stay safe when your out there tomorrow."

"I will. Want to go out on a date after we get back?" Kara asked. Jean couldn't help but smile.

"I would like that. You think your father will approve?" Jean asked.

"I don't know." Kara said as Jean pulled her tight against his side. "Let's not tell anyone yet till after this scouting mission is over." Jean agreed. The two cuddled, not wanting to be seperated from each other. They passed out in each others arms after sharing some small kisses.

The next day. Bells were ringing through the city. Kara sat on Lucky next to Eren. Kara had gotten up early to get to her room before her father found her asleep in Jean's arms. Jean didn't want her to go, but they didn't want to get in trouble before their first mission. Kara looked towards where Jean was to see him looking towards her. She gave him a smile which he returned. Kara looked back ahead.

"Commander. The time approaches. Titans in the vicinity have been lured away! Gate opens in thirty seconds!" Garrison called.

"Woah." A kids voice came. Eren and Kara looked and saw kids looking at them through the window.

"Awesome, it's the Scouts!" A girl said.

"See that symbol? They call it the Wings of Freedom!" The boy said.

"So cool!" The girl said. Kara smiled at the kids.

"This is it!" Darius called. Kara turned her head to the front. "The day has come for humanity to take another step forward! Now let's show those Titans exactly what we're made of!" Scouts cheered.

"Open the gate!" Garrison called as the gate started to open. It came to a stop.

"Foward!" Erwin yelled. Scouts raced forward. "It's officially begun. The 57th Recon Mission! Scouts, move out!" Kara felt her heart leap with excitement. Her first mission along with her friends first was about to start, but she had a bad feeling that it wasn't going to go well.
