Author's Note: Here's a short, fun first story to start the series. Hope you enjoy!

October 2009

Remus was always astonished at just how boring it was each week when it was his turn to patrol the empty hallways of Hogwarts castle after dark searching for mischievous students breaking curfew. Given how often he and his friends snuck around, it surprised him how few students actually took the risk. Most students though didn't have an invisibility cloak as a family heirloom, so the risk was higher for them, and a lot of them choose not to chance it.

He did occasionally catch a couple of wrongdoers in their misdeeds though. Sometimes it was an extra diligent student that stayed in the library a little too long, and he usually let them off with a warning. Sometimes it was a hungry upperclassman who had snuck to the kitchens for a snack, and if he could overhear them being kind and thankful towards the house elves, he would usually walk the other direction and pretend not to notice. If the opposite was true however, he'd assign detentions and confiscate the snacks. Then there was the random couple he would catch in some sort of forbidden behavior, and he would usually just deduct a lot of points instead of assigning detention, usually because they were too embarrassed and he didn't want to force them to face him again about it.

But every now and then, he would catch a student that had clearly been outside the castle and he would have no choice but to give a blistering lecture, deduct points and assign detention.

He had just finished arranging some things in his own classroom and descended the stairs to walk around some more when he heard a distinctive curse and something slam shut. He looked to his right, his eyes going immediately to the one-eyed witch statue that so often greeted him.

"Surely not," he muttered to himself, but he walked over to the statue, tapped his wand to the witch's hump and said, "Dissendium."

The hump opened to reveal the faces of three very terrified teenagers, one of which was too familiar to Remus.

"Out," he ordered.

He studied the three miscreants, three Hufflepuff students with Butterbeer stains on their robes. They'd clearly tried to toss the stuff to hide it from their professor and likely bumped each other in the scuffle.

Remus did his best to give them a stern look as he lectured. "It is way past curfew young men. The three of you know better than to be out of your dormitories at this hour. Now I don't want to know where you were or what you were doing, but I can guarantee you that if I catch either of you out at this hour again, it'll be straight to the headmistress, do you understand?"

All three students stared at their feet and mumbled "yes, sir"s.

"Good. Now 20 points from Hufflepuff each and I will see all three of you in detention tomorrow night. Mr. Wilson and Mr. Davies, I trust you can find your way back to your dormitories without further assistance. Mr. Lupin," he looked at his son, "You can come with me."

Teddy walked silently behind his father all the way back to Remus's quarters. It wasn't until his father held the door open for him and motioned for him to go in did he begin to plead his case.

"Dad! This is completely unfair!" he whined as he walked in.

"Have a seat, Teddy."

"But Dad!"

Remus pointed at the couch. "Sit."

Teddy obeyed, but not without further petition. "Are you writing to Ryan or Matt's parents?"

"No," Remus told him.

"Then why am I in more trouble? It's not fair."

Remus sat down across from him. "I never said you were in trouble." He looked up as Dora walked in, wrapping her dressing gown around herself.

"What is going on? You two are going to wake up Hope."

Remus stood up and walked over to her. "Your son was just caught sneaking back into the castle through the one-eyed witch."

Tonks smiled at him. "He was caught sneaking in through the passageway you and your friends discovered, and you're calling him my son?" she teased.

Teddy relaxed a bit, but grew worried again as his father walked over to him and held out a hand expectantly.

"What?" Teddy asked innocently.

"Hand it over," Remus instructed, barely hiding his smirk.

"Hand over what?"

Remus gave his son a glare. "You know exactly what I'm talking about."

Teddy feigned cluelessness a moment longer, but when his father raised an especially stern eyebrow, he was forced to reach into his back pocket and placed the Marauder's Map into his outstretched hand.

….

Harry was in his kitchen trying desperately to get his one year old daughter to eat the peas he was feeding her.

"Come on, Lils. Open up for Daddy."

Lily shook her head back and forth, her mouth closed tightly as her tiny pigtails swung around her face.

"Let me feed her," Sirius offered.

Harry looked at him suspiciously. "If I let you feed her, you have to feed her the peas, not ice cream."

Sirius clutched his chest. "Are you accusing me of not caring about the nutrition of my grandchildren?"

Harry leaned back and handed the plate to his father. "I'm not saying you don't care about their nutrition. I'm saying you care more about spoiling them rotten."

Sirius laughed and took the plate. He swapped seats with Harry and smiled brightly at his granddaughter. "Alright Miss Lily, how about you eat these peas, and then you and Paddy will share a big bowl of strawberry and peanut butter ice cream?"

Harry threw up his hands and muttered, "Unbelievable," but his daughter did eat her peas. Harry busied himself with clearing the table while Sirius cleaned up his granddaughter and made them both a bowl of ice cream.

The floo chimed and Sirius looked at Harry. "Is that Ginny?"

"I don't think so," Harry said. "I wasn't expecting her for at least a few more hours."

Just then, Harry heard a chorus of "Uncle Moony!" from his two sons in the other room.

"I think it's Remus," Sirius told him.

Harry rolled his eyes right before Remus walked into his kitchen. "Good evening, gentlemen."

"Hey Remus," Harry greeted him.

"Mooey!" Lily called out, ignoring Sirius's offer of ice cream and holding her arms out for her uncle to pick her up. Remus immediately obliged and spun her around.

"What are you doing here?" Sirius asked, a little affronted by his granddaughter's betrayal.

"I should ask you the same thing. You don't live here either," Remus countered as he set Lily down. She immediately toddled over to her Paddy and crawled into his lap.

"Well my wife is out of town and Harry's is working late, so I came to see my grandchildren," Sirius informed him as he kissed his granddaughter. "Now your turn. What are you doing here?"

Remus gave a half smile. "I came to speak to Harry."

Harry raised his eyebrows. "Oh?"

"Yes, last night I caught three students sneaking back into the castle at nearly midnight."

Harry looked confused. "What does that have to do with me? It's been quite some time since you've caught me sneaking around."

"They were sneaking back in through the one-eyed witch statue."

Sirius looked at Harry and raised an eyebrow. Harry quickly turned to his sink and started washing the dishes. "I still don't understand what that has to do with me," he said guiltily.

Remus and Sirius exchanged a look before Remus spoke again. "Let me clarify. I caught Teddy and two of his friends sneaking back into the castle through the one-eyed witch statue."

Harry stiffened but didn't turn around. Remus pulled the Marauder's Map from his back pocket, walked over, and smacked his godson in the back of the head with it.

"Hey!" Harry said, turning around.

"You gave my son the Marauder's Map!"

"Well," Harry defended, rubbing his head. "He is the son of a Marauder. It was only fair."

Remus put his hands on his hips. "A little heads up might have been nice."

From her perch on her grandfather's lap, little Lily put her own hands on her own hips and gave the sweetest little glare to her father. She wasn't sure why her daddy was in trouble, but if Uncle Moony was upset, so was she. With her vibrant green eyes and red hair, she was the spitting image of her namesake.

Harry scoffed. "What did you want me to say, 'Hey Remus, just wanted you to know that Teddy now has a map that can allow him to sneak all over the castle whenever he wants'?"

Sirius laughed. "Serves you right, Remus. You helped make that map."

Remus humphed.

Harry looked at the map in Remus's hand. "You're going to give it back to him, right?"

Sirius snorted as Remus glared. After a moment, Remus's face morphed into a wicked grin. "I will give it back to him with one condition."

Harry didn't like that look. It promised nothing good for him. "What?"

"I'll give it back to him as long as he agrees to give it to James when he starts at Hogwarts."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Harry said.

Sirius was enjoying this exchange a little too much. "Sounds like a good plan."

"No," Harry said adamantly.

"Why not? He's the grandson of two Marauders, and the nephew of another. It's only fair," Remus said, mocking Harry's earlier statement.

"Because Teddy is a fairly well-behaved kid. Have you met James? You give James that map and I guarantee McGonagall will write to me in the first week he's there."

Sirius chuckled. "He is a bit mischievous."

Remus held up his hands. "Seems perfectly fair to me."

Harry sighed. "Alright, fine. He's still got five years before he starts Hogwarts anyways, and you two will have to deal with him then anyway."

"Deal," Remus agreed.

Just then, Harry's young sons, Alastor Arthur and James Sirius came barreling into the room waving their hands in the air.

"Daddy! Sticky! I'm sticky!" little Al said, showing his father his chocolate-covered hands.

Harry looked at Remus incredulously. "Did you give my sons chocolate?"

Remus smiled. "I better get back to Hogwarts. I have a detention to supervise."

Harry stood there with his mouth agape as Remus made a swift exit. Sirius stood up. "Ok, why don't you two boys come with me? Paddy's going to give you a bath." He shepherded them out of the kitchen, but not before hearing his son mutter, "I'm going to give Teddy the bloody invisibility cloak next."
