St. Berry fanficion

I've been pondering on whether to write a fanfiction for so long, this is not my native language so if you have corrections they will be well received, just don't want this ship to be forgotten. I actually had my inspiration, aside from glee obviously, from another St. berry ff that I read that I didn't expect to love so much. It is called Daddy from chiquislover25. Please go read it, it just is so beautiful written. This will be strictly St. berry; I am a diehard St. berry lover so if that's not your cup of tea just don't read it, also there will be no Finn bashing just my realistic approach to their relationship, I liked his character, just not with Rachel. But yeah, basically Rachel will have Finn's baby without him knowing since he passed away before she could tell him, I hope you like it.

It will be slightly AU, still working on the canon line but with some artistic liberties, Spring Awakening will be a new broadway musical going still through workshops.

Also, don't really remember Finn's death circumstances, will probably change some things since I'm writing just from memory so it can fit my story.

Summary: Jesse's love for Rachel has been nothing but a humbling experience, but never in his 22 years he thought that he would be raising his late mortal enemy's child with her. Slightly AU. St. Berry.

Nauseous. That's how she felt while waiting for her to be called in for her audition. This had been her NYADA vocal technique coach request, for her to go to several auditions to hear feedback from people on the actual working field and could give her insight and pointers on her interpretations. Just to get her feet wet.

But she had read the plot and she was captured; Spring Awakening was the new musical's name, written by Steven Sater and musicalized by him and Duncan Sheik. This was a different vibe from the Sondheim's, Schwart's and Webber's Broadway musicals. This was so fresh, risky, so irreverent, so dauntingly beautiful.

Aside from the fact that she would be originating whatever role she could get, being part of something as beautifully written as this; and don't let her start on the poetic lyrics to the songs, would be such an honor. Her Barbra's shaped dreams could wait a little bit, this was going to make history on Broadway, she could feel it.

This was just the workshops, and probably would change so much through the years until a Broadway theater gave its approval to home it. But there was this pull to be part of this play. After all, "being part of something special, makes you special" was what she told anyone who would hear.

Of course, the nausea had begun 2 days ago.

She wanted to think it had to do with pre auditions jitters, she wasn't like that green-eyed boy who claimed to no longer feel nervous before a performance, but right now she wished she could be a little bit like him, not the obnoxious and cocky side of him, but the confidence. If she got the part, this would be her first role on Broadway.

Sure, she was still a little ripe since she hadn't been on New York for even a year, but hey a girl could dream right?

Besides this play, as much as the rough diamond she thought it was, it still was on workshops stages. Still had too much to polish and nothing was definitive.

But the nausea, though.

She didn't want to think it had anything to do with that night 3 weeks ago, where she spent it on the horizontal side with Finn when she visited Lima in that school dance.

Rachel shook her head and remember to think positive thoughts, they had used protection and she was just nervous.

"Rachel Berry?" a middle-aged woman with glasses called her name breaking her thoughts, she met her gaze and just realized how packed the waiting room really was, her stomach dropped but she tried to calm herself through breathing techniques.

Those were nerves.

She stood up and followed her.

She entered the room and found it to be composed of two men and a woman. One was a blue-eyed man in his late 40's with a kind face, the other one had a more composed expression, she assumed they were Mr. Sater and Sheik themselves, she had researched a bit from them, so she was positive she was meeting the play's creators.

A fire lit inside of her; she was getting getting this part.

"So, I see you are auditioning for Thea's part, am I right, Ms. Berry?" the kind eyed man said who she identified as Mr. Sater.

She fixed her gaze on him and looked him right to the eyes and assented.

"That is correct, Mr. Sater" she said still holding her eyes to his with a confidence she liked to call 'Rachel Berry's on the zone'

"I see" he replied with a nod of approval "well, as you know first we will ask you to perform a monologue of your preference and then a song of your choice, you may begin whenever you may want to.

She closed her eyes for a second and went from confident Rachel to vulnerable Rachel, opened her eyes and began reciting innocent but heartfelt Christine Daee's monologue from "The Phantom of the Opera".

Steven Sater could not move his stare from this girl. He was entrapped, she was so young but so focused. When she entered the room, he could notice the residual nerves she must have had in the waiting room but one look to them and it was like she was possessed by this assured woman who he knew, despite his typical neutral face, Duncan was also impressed, he could tell by his lack of loss of attention since this part, the casting was his biggest burden of it all.

And there was another paranormal event since Rachel began her monologue when she announced that she would be singing "I don't know how to love him" from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Since the decision to cast young actors, he was emotionally preparing himself to only listen Adele's covers or the latest hot pop song that would make his ears bleed by the 4th time he had to listen to "Someone like you". But not her. She was making that song her own with those soft inflections and nice quite vibrato but also that conviction through her interpretation of a relatively forgotten Broadway classic.

The kid had her knew stuff and Jesus Christ, not a pun intended, she had talent.

He could see her as Wendla, what was she doing auditioning for Thea. It was actually a fortunate coincidence that Thea was the most innocent of the friends, as Wendla, that her audition could work for both of them.

He simply couldn't let her audition go to waste and let the others from the cast team establish her as Thea when he could see that she was a once in a lifetime in a generation talent.

"Child… why don't you try singing this song" he interrupted her beautiful rendition a little bit hesitant but he had to take reigns on this matter, he wanted her as his Wendla and he had to make the cast team see her as that too.

He stood up and gave her the partiture for "Mama who bore me".

"This is for Wendla" she said as a matter-of-factly.

He nodded.

Rachel could tell this was a turning point in her audition, and how she proceeded could impact greatly on their decision. So, without second guessing herself she returned the stare to Steven Sater and the rest of the panel and nodded with a self confidence that had Steven Sater on the edge of his seat.

She read the partiture and thank God for her perfect pitch and sight reading. She took 2 minutes not so much for the musical aspect of the song but to really understand Wendla's take on this. It was a cry towards her mother and her lack of preparedness… she could relate to that pushing Shelby's image to the back of her mind and just focusing on her refusal to be that mother who could help her be prepared.

She inhaled and exhaled and prepared herself to feel the raw emotion of this song.

"Mama, who bore me.

Mama who gave me.

No way to handle things. Who made me so sad"

Who was this girl. That was a common thought among all the casting panel in the room. Steven Sater was just perplexed, she owned that song, and now he began to believe that he would not be able to listen these lyrics from the mouth of any other girl. She was his Wendla.

Duncan aside from her interpretation was surprised by how quickly she could sight read.

And Kimberly Grigsbly and her intern had never heard any interpretation of that song like that in any of the last two workshops.

But convincing their producers would be hard. She was a no name with very Jewish factions. Pretty indeed, but very different from typical Broadway actresses.

Kim could see the glow from Steven's eyes, she needed to put him down to earth on this, she could see him ready to give her the part in that same moment. Damn Steven he knew what he was doing when he requested, she sing that song, he was vouching for her not to be Thea but the leading role.

As Rachel finished the song, she thought that she made quite a good job. And judging by the faces of the panel, well she aced it most likely.

"Great, well we'll contact you through the week" said Kim with a calm smile before anyone.

Rachel nodded and left the room.

"I don't want to hear it ok; I need you to be open to the next girls we have to listen" said Kim knowing Steven would protest.

"Fine"

"Well, that was something" said the intern trying to appease the room after the last 5 auditions.

"I love Adele, I really do, but if I have to sit through one more cover of Rolling in the deep, my ears are going to bleed," said Duncan.

"I think the only memorable ones were the girl that sang that Jesus Christ Superstar song and the one from that sitcom" answered the intern.

"Why thank you for bringing that up" said Steven with a devilish smile. "Kim…"

"Ok, fine she gets the callback for Wendla but also the one from the sitcom AND the one that didn't suck so much" said Kim rubbing her temple, working with the new generation was going to bring her some migraines. "As for the supporting roles…" and she proceeded to detail the ones that she liked, but he wasn't listening anymore.

"Yes!" celebrated Steven.

They already had 3 potential Wendla's and 4 potential Melchior's. Now came the chemistry test.

"So… how did it went" asked Kurt from the couch when she entered the flat.

"OMG Kurt, omg omg omg omg omg omg" she said jumping up and down towards her path to her friend and now blocking whatever he was watching on their really small TV.

"That good? Isn't this like only an experiment to get feedback?" he asked disbelievingly.

"I KNOW!" she laughed whole-heartedly without able to contain her giddiness. "I'll put it like this, I auditioned for a supporting role just because I wanted just to be part of this musical, and the one Steven Sater interrupted me so I could sing the leading lady solo"

He was dumbfounded.

"Right now, I hate you a little bit you know" he exhaled but then managed to give a disbelieving laugh because of the irony of the situation. "But I'm really glad Rach".

Rachel giggled and launched herself towards Kurt to hug him. "I know, I would want to kill you if it were the other way round"

They truly understood each other in a weird twisted way.

But that action, launching herself towards her friend was more than enough to make her stomach give a turn.

She bolted towards the bathroom with a hand on her mouth, so she could throw up.

"Well, that was odd" she said to herself "Must be the nerves from the day".

Fast forward 3 days and Rachel was growing anxious, she was by the phone 24/7 and even on her NYADA lectures she had her cellphone with her at all times. This nerve-wracking waiting was making her sick; her stomach hadn't gotten better as a matter of fact and she had classified it as a mild stomach bug.

She even began to cross check that she had service every time and made poor Kurt call her just to be certain than her cellphone was working appropriately which was beginning to crisp Kurt to the point that wanted to pummel her next time she asked.

Then a miracle happened and she felt her phone vibrate while she was in classes.

She flew out of the classroom as quick as she could without caring if she was disrupting her professor. This was fricking Broadway, they would understand.

"Hello, this is Rachel Berry speaking" how her voice was not shaking, she had to thank those many acting lessons and many many hours of practice where Jesse and her did exercises of how to address Broadway producers and award acceptance speeches.

"Hey Rachel, this is Tiffany, from the casting committee from the play Spring Awakening, we wanted you to know that you got the callback for the role of Wendla" as Rachel heard this she was beginning to hyperventilate out of pure ecstasy, her very first leading Broadway role and in her first year of living in New York, "Suck that Ohio" she thought.

"Could you come tomorrow at the "Roundabout Theatre company" at 3 pm?" Rachel tried to collect herself to not sound too desperate and eager. "Inhale and exhale, Rachel Barbra Berry" she addressed herself sternly.

"Rachel?"

"Yes, of course, I'll be there"

"Perfect, I'm sending you parts of the rough draft that we will want you to work with us tomorrow"

"Excellent Tiffany, thank you so much! Have a nice day"

She ended the call and giggled, she called Kurt and her dads to announce them that she got the callback and her plans for tomorrow.

Just being able to get a callback was merit enough, but now Rachel began to desire that role so much. This was going to be a breakthrough moment for her, she just knew it.

"This is going to be the experience of a lifetime!" she thought.
