We Come from Different Places but Have the Same Name

Summary: Despite her son's best efforts, Melissa McCall knows about the supernatural. After all, she wasn't always a nurse. Maybe it's time to step out of retirement and show the puppies how a Pack really works.

Scott McCall

Melissa McCall's entire world was turned on its head the moment her baby boy, Scott, was born.

She'd heard plenty about how motherhood was a whole new world, but it hadn't truly sunk in until that moment.

Until the moment her precious boy was set in her arms, safe and warm and softer than anything she'd ever seen.

She'd been a lot of things through her life, orphan, student, savior, martyr, but being a mother put all of them to shame.

Seeing the flood of devotion in her son's warm brown eyes as she bounced him in her arms, humming a lullaby.

Hearing the pure joy in his laughter as she played on the floor with him.

The easy trust he had as he sought her for comfort, the way he settled as soon as he was placed in her arms or heard her voice.

All of it made Melissa fall harder in love.

She'd experienced love before, the unbreakable loyalty and love of her siblings in all but blood, the bravery and warmth of a busy mother who invited her into her family, giving her plenty of brothers and sisters.

But she'd never known love like this.

He was hers. Hers to protect, to love.

She'd carried him within her for nine months and knew the sound of his heartbeat as well as her own.

Melissa swore that she would never let him be alone the way she had. He would always her fighting in his corner.

This was the kind of unbending love that Lily Potter had had for her, strong enough to die for her and stay by her side as she walked to her own death.

It was the kind of love that gave her the courage to pull herself out of the horrible situation she'd allowed herself to settle in and divorce the man who'd taken advantage of her broken state to manipulate her into being what he wanted.

Melissa McCall was twenty-one when she divorced Rafael, packed up all of her things, and moved away to restart her life somewhere else for the second time, taking her son with her.

She'd gotten herself out of unhealthy situations before and this was no different.

Melissa was sorting out her priorities and finding that her biggest two were her son and herself. Everything else could be figured out, as long as Scott was safe, happy, and well taken care of.

"I love you, Momma," Scott whispered loudly, as if it were a secret, and Melissa couldn't resist the soft smile that spread across her face.

"I love you too, baby."
