I have been studying to create the perfect character that fits. Madelyn Pryor from Xmen is the key here. Her power set inspires me more than anyone has before! Magic, demonic stuff, Psychic... it's perfect.

No connections to Kagome, not for a while. I need to establish his own story first, that is what I always fail to do.

One Year Before Kagome Goes into The Past

Zachary, Age 18!

The world was an unfriendly place and Zachary knew that.

Studying local lore in Tokyo, he was having a blast. A novelist by trade, he wanted to learn as much as he could on Shintoism and it's magic for a novel or twelve. He was actually pretty far into his research when he heard tale of a massive tree in the forest, said to be one of the many Tree of Ages. Legend told of their influence over time.

He was amazed as he found it, the air thick with perfume. He walked over to it, amazed by it's beauty.

"I cannot believe I found you, if only you could help me, the stories you could tell." He put a hand on the wood, a scene from a story blossomed in his mind. He whispered a chant, a simple spell that he found once before in his studies. "Jibun no michi o mitsukete". Closing his eyes, he leaned in, only to feel a rush of heat blossoming under his palm. Eyes slamming open, he saw bright light dancing under his palm, before that light literally wrapped around him, pulling in what looked like an endless stream of galaxies. The world faded into nothing, his energies drained, before he landed harshly on the solid earth.

Shaking, he stood, looking up... he saw nothing but forest. No trace of the endless sky scrappers or smell of car exhaust. All that was present was forest...

"Where am I?" He turned, looking around he started to panic. "Where did you send me, tree?" He got no response. "The Tree of Ages links time, Either I am really far in the future... or I am in the literal past... either way, I am boned. How... I need to be safe, find a settlement and go from there. Assumptions will only terrify me more."

And so he moved off, into the night, toward the river he eventually found, figuring that most settlements were near water so he was bound to find something...

Or... so he hoped.

Chapter end, tell me what you think in the reviews.

This was a joy to write.
