Veronica, with determination evident in her every move, cut her way through Mordren's men, her heart focused on one target: Mordren himself. Finn, equally fierce and agile, fought by her side, matching Veronica's moves. The two women seemed unstoppable.
But fate, as it often does, threw a cruel twist their way. From a shadowy corner of the battlefield, an arrow took flight. It sped with deadly intent, striking Finn in the leg, causing her to collapse with a cry of pain.
"FINN!" Veronica shouted, her attention momentarily diverted from her mission.
But Finn, gritting her teeth against the pain, waved her on. "I'll be fine. Go finish him!"
With renewed vigor and anger burning in her eyes, Veronica continued on, finally coming face-to-face with her enemy.
Mordren looked at her, his dark eyes gleaming with evil desire. "Ah, finally, we meet again."
Veronica, gripping her sword tightly, responded with steely resolve, "This will be the last time. Once I'm finished with you this time, you won't be coming back."
Mordren's gaze drifted to the pendant she carried. "Kind of you to bring me the trion. Now give it here!"
Without a moment's hesitation, Veronica charged at him, her sword targeting his heart. Mordren, agile and swift, sidestepped her attack, chuckling at her audacity. "Ever the fierce warrior, aren't you? Just like your father," he jumped skillfully evading her strikes. "But worry not, you'll soon be joining him! Hand over the trion!"
"You killed my father, you threatened my mother, you endangered the plateau and the entire world! Today, it stops!" Veronica shouted, her fierce determination evident with each determined strike.
Mordren countered her attacks with a sneer. "You think you can defeat me? I've existed long before you were born and will continue long after you're gone."
Veronica's sword met his with a resounding clang, her eyes filled with determination. "You may have existed for eons, Mordren, but evil has a way of meeting its end."
Mordren laughed, taking a step back. "Look around you, Veronica. The power of this plateau is immense. Together, we could harness its energy and be unstoppable. Join me, and we can rule as equals."
Veronica spat, "I will never join you."
A shockwave blasted through the area, knocking everyone around them to the ground. Only Veronica and Mordren remained standing.
Mordren looked around, annoyed. "What the hell is that devil woman doing?" he snapped.
Marguerite's silhouette stood tall on the hill beside them, her demeanor emanating an unsettling aura. She looked different, not quite herself.
"Marguerite?" Veronica called out, hope evident in her voice.
The figure smiled, but it was a sinister smirk, one that sent chills down the spine of anyone who saw it. Suddenly, both Veronica and Mordren found themselves gasping for air, their hands clutching their throats.
"Marguerite, what are you doing?" Veronica choked out, her vision blurring.
Mordren, struggling for breath, managed to gasp, "That's not Marguerite. It's Morrighan."
Morrighan, her voice cold and laced with bitterness, addressed Mordren: "The last time we stood here, I chose to align with you. Yet, you betrayed me, leading my people astray, lost in the corridors of time."
Mordren sneered back, his eyes devoid of any remorse. "Your people's fate was sealed by your own folly, not mine."
Morrighan's eyes darted to Veronica, a hint of challenge in her gaze. "And you… Why do you, self-proclaimed guardians, believe you're worthy of this power? Who deemed you its keepers?"
Veronica stood her ground, conviction evident in her voice, "We don't seek the power for our own gain. We seek to shield it, to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands."
Morrighan scoffed, "Just as I thought. Mordren desires its annihilation, while you wish to cage it away."
Veronica, not backing down, countered, "What is it that you seek?"
"To use its power the right way," Morrighan said. "To help those in need, stop those doing wrong, and bring justice to the unjust world. But the choice isn't mine. It's Marguerite's. She decided, and I can't do anything to change her mind."
It was at that moment that a shift occurred. It became clear that Marguerite had sided with Veronica.
Mordren, his face contorting in rage, spat out, "You naive fool! Roxton will die because of you!"
In the climactic moment, a brilliant surge of energy emanated from Marguerite, funneling directly into Veronica. With newfound strength and determination, she drove her sword deep into Mordren's heart.
The tremendous explosion of energy reverberated throughout the plateau, leaving a lingering resonance.
As the dust settled, Marguerite slowly opened her eyes, scanning the surroundings. Morrighan's presence had vanished from her mind, and there was no sign of Mordren. Nearby, Veronica lay motionless.
Marguerite cried out, "Veronica!" She rushed to her side and knelt down. As she tried to check on her friend, dizziness washed over Marguerite, and she too fell, collapsing over Veronica.
