Sakura had never been asked to go with Kakashi on a diplomatic mission. She'd been on a few before, but it was always with Tsunade and Shizune. They would turn it into a girls night out when sakura was younger. So to have Kakashi and Naruto on this mission of sorts to Suna was a little bit different.
Simply getting there was awkward. They were in their own train car, the first time Sakura had ever been on one of these things. It made her nervous and it was like both Kakashi and Naruto knew she was, but they both reassured her it wasn't going to crash and go off the rails. What was even more awkward was Naruto kept asking Sakura about her and Sasuke's relationship that had ended over a year ago. Naruto didn't believe Sakura because Sasuke had told him something else. Kakashi knew the answer and just sat there with what the medic would know to be a smile behind his mask.
When they finally got to Suna, the trio had been intercepted by Kankuro, who led them to the quarters that the Kazekage had for them. It was nighttime by the time they got to the land of dry heat and cold nights. They wouldn't need to meet up until after breakfast the next morning.
Lucky for the Konoha nin, all three of them had separate rooms for their stay. One of the aides had shown Sakura to her quarters for the time being. All three were connected, but they gave each other their privacy. What the pinkette was even more excited about was the hot springs that were at the back of the building they stayed in, though it was unisex, it didn't separate for men and women. But she didn't care. She was excited nonetheless to get her bathing suit out and take advantage of the hot water to relax her weary muscles.
She took a quick shower before heading towards the back of the building. She was glad that no one else was there when she placed her towel on a chair and dipped into the water. Sakura sighed in contempt, happy to have the time to herself for the moment. She closed her eyes and paid her head against the edge of the spring. It was all so perfect until she heard Naruto's grating voice. After, she heard a splash and water hit her in the face, getting her hair wet.
"Naruto–" She growled, standing up to look at him, her fist bunched up as Naruto looked at her, rubbing the back of his neck as he apologized. With a huff, Sakura sat herself back down, closing her eyes to try and relax. Naruto did the same, though he kept his new arm out of the water.
"You know, you can get it wet," She said to him, knowing it was the fifth time she told him since he got his new arm.
"I know, Granny had said so, but I feel that I have to be gentle with it, you know?" Naruto explained, his face going red as he moved closer to Sakura. The blond sat himself beside Sakura and sat in silence for the moment. Times like this had made her enjoy Naruto's company, you know, as long as he was quiet and thoughtful. Of course, that would always end quickly.
"Ano…. Sakura-chan. Kurama has a question," Naruto said aloud, making Sakura open her eyes and look at Naruto from the side. He took that as the okay to move on.
"Kurama wants to know why Kaka-sensei was looking at you so fondly."
The medic began to blush, but thankfully the spring would make her face look red, too.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Sakura answered, making sure to close her eyes. Naruto chuckled, whispering to himself as he stared at his stomach.
"Seriously. Kurama thinks it was weird that Kaka-sensei seemed to enjoy your presence more than ours."
"Naruto, you kept asking about me and Sasuke's relationship. All eight hours of the trip you wouldn't shut up. Maybe he was happy that I was sane enough to stay quiet."
Naruto rubbed his seal as if he was trying to calm Kurama down or something. She didn't understand the relationship he had with the masses of chakra he had, but he was happy and doing so much better after the war that she had noticed.
"Kurama says that that wasn't it. That Kaka-sensei really does enjoy your company."
Sakura lowered herself into the water, blowing bubbles in the water as she tried to think of a way to get out of this situation. Deep down, She wished her team knew about her relationship with Kakashi so they wouldn't have to hide, but she didn't know how Naruto would react to it. She always imagined he would feel betrayed, or maybe angered that she had turned him down multiple times but said yes to Kakashi of all people.
Naruto laughed to himself, making Sakura bring her face out of the water to see what he was laughing at.
"Wouldn't it be funny if Kaka-sensei had a crush on you?"
Sakura twitched, but didn't let anyone know what was going on in her head.
"Why would that be weird?" Sakura questioned, trying to not let anything slip.
"Not that because you aren't great or anything, just knowing his history, it would be weird to see him try and open up like that again."
Sakura relaxed, turning to look at Naruto. She hadn't thought of their relationship like that before. She knew of his past relationships in a sexual nature, but she didn't think of how his history with his old team and sensei would have an impact on the relationship she had with him. Yes, Sakura knew that Kakashi lived by the "We might die tomorrow, so let's fuck today," model that she had admired so much lately, but literally forgetting about his relationship with Obito and Rin would weigh heavy on Kakashi's mind.
It would explain a lot, though. It would explain why he only seemed interested in the sexual aspect, but not much else. It would explain how he would respect her boundaries and how he wanted to keep their relationship a secret to most of the village, only letting the important people in their collective lives know.
Was Naruto not an important person in their lives? He was someone who saved them in so many different ways that she began to feel a little guilty. She sighed, knowing Kakashi would probably end things after this admission.
How quiet Sakura was made Naruto feel bad, and he was about to say something until she frowned at him.
"Naruto… What if Kakashi-sensei and I are in a relationship of sorts? How would you react?"
The blond thought to himself for a moment before smiling.
"I'd be happy for you two. You both have been hurt in the past, so I can see the chemistry. You know, you two are important people to me, so why wouldn't I want you two to be happy? Even if it's with each other?"
Sakura smiled fondly at Naruto. She always thought he would be angered, but apparently he wouldn't be. He would be happy about it? That was a little bit different. It showed how much he had grown up since they were on the top of a building and telling each other what their dreams and aspirations were.
Naruto began to chuckle.
"Of course, that makes sense," He said to himself, as if he was sharing a laugh with Kurama.
"You know. I'm a little hurt that you didn't tell me out right, but I really am happy for you. For the past year, you've been happy. You've been much more confident, much happier than what you were with Sasuke. Kaka-sensei wasn't the reason why you guys broke up, was it?"
Sakura relaxed, feeling like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
"No. I went to Kakashi and talked to him and complained about Sasuke to him before one day he asked me out on a date. After that, we've just been having sex. We wanted to keep it quiet because of our positions in the village and how the public would think he had groomed me or forced me or something."
Naruto's head was swimming with questions. He had so many thing he wanted answered, but there was a more important one that he was curious about.
"It doesn't go beyond sex, does it?"
Sakura shrugged.
"I mean we meet up and like to do other things, but our relationship is more of a sexual nature."
"...does that mean you're the partner he's talked about?"
Sakura was confused. She started Naruto down until he laughed.
"I had asked him for tips on how to woo Hinata and he said he liked to watch his partner have sex with other people. He never said who, but I guess you're one of them."
Sakura didn't mind Naruto knowing that.
"Yes, I am that partner."
"Ano… what's the most awkward thing you two have done?" Naruto asked loudly. Sakura was going to answer when she felt another presence come to the spring. In front of them, Kakashi had a towel around his waist, his mask still on his face. Sakura looked Kakashi over, liking the trunks he was wearing. Naruto had noticed and he moved away from Sakura, not wanting Kakashi to know what he did. Though it was awkward for the three of them.
The kage used the stairs to get in the water. He sat on a step and stared at both Sakura and Naruto. It reminded him of the days when it was just them and Kakashi caught them gossiping about him.
Sakura smiled fondly as Naruto stuck a thumb up.
'She's already told me,"
Kakashi looked at Naruto, his brow raised before Sakura stepped in.
"Actually, Kurama guessed it. I just confirmed it"
"I see." Kakashi said. Sakura looked his face over, but with that damned mask on, it was hard for her to see his reaction.
"And who else knows?"the kage asked, stone faced
"Just Naruto and Kurama for now." Sakura said, the words felt like a gut punch. Not knowing how her not so secret lover was reacting to this was killing her.
"Well, Naruto. I hope you and Kurama keep it to yourselves. You could see what would happen if word got out," Kakashi warned before he moved deeper into the water, sitting himself on the other side of Sakura.
"So… you're not mad?" the medic asked. Kakashi didn't say a word but under the water, he grabbed ahold of her hand gently.
"We can talk about it later. Right now, let's just enjoy our mini vacation."
After Kakashi had said that, Naruto began to move from his spot and out the water to grab his towel.
"You two need time together, so I'll just see you guys in the morning?" Naruto bid his goodbye, leaving Kakashi and Sakura to sat quietly, holding each other's hand before Sakura asked the question bugging her.
"You're not mad at me, are you?"
"Why would I be mad?" He answered with a question.
"Itachi knowns, Yamato knows, and so does Shizune and Tsunade–"
"How does Tsunade know?" Sakura queried, a little annoyed at that."
"She shared her Sake stash with me and It just came out. She gave us her blessing, as long as I don't hurt you."
The pinkette was even more confused.
"Why would she give her blessing? We don't have a relationship beyond having sex."
Kakashi was befuddled himself. He turned to face her.
'Do you really think our relationship was just about sex?" He questioned, Sakura nodded her head.
"I thought that's what it was. It's what boundaries were set when we started this."
Kakashi nodded, pulling his hand away.
"Look, it's been about a year now. You don't think it's beyond just having sex whenever we want to? I truly enjoy your company outside of getting naked with you. I thought you knew that."
The simple movement made Sakura's heart sink into her stomach. She felt the corner of her eyes prickle until Kakashi's hand moved back to her lap.
"Right now, let's just enjoy each other's company. I know Naruto won't say anything, but we do need to have a more in depth conversation when we get home, hm?" He said, squeezing Sakura's thigh. She turned her head to smile at him, leaning over to kiss his clothed cheek.
"Thank you," Sakura said happily, leaning her head on his shoulder. Crisis averted, for now.
Thanks for reading!
Kudos would be great, though!
