Ladybug Bug Week Day 7
Coffee break
Blake and Ruby walked right into a quiet coffee shop, their bodies exhausted and a tad bit wet from the rain. The Grimm they fought was much tougher than they had anticipated. The best way they could recoup was a nice cup of hot coffee and tea with a good book. As Ruby stretched, she couldn't help but remember when they first came across the small cozy coffee shop on their first date.
"Hey Ruby, want me to order our usual?" Blake asks gently, snapping Ruby out of her daydreaming.
"Huh, of course, I'll get us a table!"
Ruby walked over to the usual booth they usually sit at. Once she sat more memories came to her. The first time they tasted what would become their usuals. For Blake, it was Earl Gray and for herself, it was a vanilla latte, they shared the small delicious chocolate chip cookies between them while Blake read a book, sharing the contents with her. Soon the coffee shop became their place where the two of them could wind down and relax. A small escape for the two of them. Even though it's been a year, it became a home away from home for them.
Ruby was brought out of her thoughts when Blake sat down with what appeared to be a new book.
"Oh new book?" Ruby asked with curiosity as she looked at the unfamiliar book
Blake smiled "Yep, I read this one before actually but that was a while ago, it's one of my favorites and I can't wait to share it with a certain adorable red cloak-wearing girl!"
Ruby giggled. "Gee I wonder who that could be?"
Blake chuckled and gave her girlfriend a wink.
"So what's it about?" Ruby asked.
"Oh, just your typical romantic adventure is all" Blake said as she looked at the cover of the book of what appears to be a Pirate with a beautiful woman in a romantic pose
Ruby gave the book a raised eyebrow which made Blake blush
"I know what you're thinking and trust me it's sweet and wholesome honest!"
Ruby chuckled "I believe you Blakey"
The two laughed and talked quietly as they enjoyed their time at the Coffee shop. The sound of the rain could along with the cozy and quiet ambiance of the shop could put anyone to sleep. Ruby looked out on the cobblestone street as rain gently fell on top of it.
"Normally people would head straight home after being caught in the rain," Ruby said
"Good thing we didn't get too wet," Blake said her eyes still fixated on her choice in literature. "We got here just in time!"
Ruby looked at Blake and smiled. They didn't have any plans on entering the cafe that evening but the storm came around while they walked to the hunters lodge and the two were caught unexpectedly in the rain. Thanks to Ruby's semblance the two made it without getting too wet.
"Remember the first time we came here?" Ruby asked, still looking at the window.
Blake glanced up in memory. It was their real date, Ruby wanted to take the lead but everything seemed to fall apart. They walked into the shop and tried to collect themselves, the whole date was saved by the shop, its comfy atmosphere and smoothing music made it feel like home. The barista was kind and soon after a couple of more visits, the two became friends with her. Blake and Ruby then made it their duty to let everyone know about the coffee shop to their friends. Yang once told them that with her outing with Weiss, the shop wanted someone to sing a couple of songs and Weiss volunteered. Yang listened and listened to her sing and said she felt like she was falling "double in love". It seemed that the coffee shop had become quite popular. But despite that, it always remained quiet and humbled.
The Barista then arrived with the couple's order. Ruby and Blake looked up at the young girl who appeared to be the same age or year older than them.
Ruby smiled at the young waitress "Hey Sara, another quiet night huh?"
Sara smiled back "Just the way I like it! Just how you two like your Earl Gray and vanilla latte with of course some chocolate chip cookies!"
Ruby smiled at the treats "Thanks Sara!"
Blake smiled and thanked the Barista as well "Thanks Sara and I got to say you guys got a great collection of books this time!"
Sara laughed "What can I say, the owner got inspired by your choice of literature!"
The three continued in small talk for a little while until the barista had to continue her work. The couple continued to reminisce about the mission and antics that they had gotten into the past couple of weeks until they finally finished their drinks and snacks.
Ruby then reached for Blake's hand and held it gently.
"I'm so lucky I met you, Blake…"
Blake smiled back and placed a hand over Ruby's
"Same here, I'm so glad you're in my life!"
The romantic tension was then broken by Sara
"Hey sorry to ruin the moment love bugs but uh… I kinda have to close up!"
Blake and Ruby both looked at their scrolls and realized how late it was.
