A/N Well, here is by far the longest of the three epilogues. The other two will be much shorter. I hope it is not too disappointing. Once again I want to thank all of you that honor me by reading my story. I hope that there are still some who have been with me from the beginning but realize seven years is a long time .
Thanks to Julie Lundberg and NuclearKnight for their wonderful reviews. They mean so much to me.

Warren Baxter, News Director of the Terran Broadcasting System, was sitting in his office when the door opened and a man stuck his head inside.
"Warren, you got a second?"
"Sure, John, whatcha need?"
"Just got word of a breaking story, looks like it will be one of those open-ended things. Wondered if I could get your help on how to handle it?"
"No problem, what's it all about?"
John Heming entered and sat down in a chair in front of the desk, "Received a call from Admiral Steven's office. The Admiral wants to go on air at two o'clock this afternoon. Wants it to be done from Admiral Archer's home in Malibu. Seems that Archer is close to death."
Warren leans forward, "Jonathan Archer? Hell, I thought that guy might live forever. How old is he anyway?"
"I checked after I got the message, he's 110."
Warren sat back, "Well, this guy is one of the greatest men of the century, we better go all out. What particulars do we know? Assume he is at his home; do we know who else is there?"
"Not for sure. Got the impression those details would come out at the announcement. Had Jim try his sources at Starfleet, but appears they got it shut down over there."
Warren thought for a few minutes, "Okay, have Ed and Sally head out there. Use Steve from Technical, be sure we can get a satellite signal. Also have the archive personnel start gathering data on his life. Depending on what comes out at the announcement, we'll have to decide which way to go."
"Shall I have Tim handle it from this end?"
"Yeah, that's fine. Keep me up to date on what is going on. I'll alert Mr. Ferris."
Seventeen-year-old Karen Hoshi Maxwell was watching one of her favorite programs and was aggravated when an announcer broke in with a news announcement.
We interrupt our regular scheduled programming to bring you this breaking story from TBS news. We now take you to Ed James and Sally Meyers.
This is Ed James reporting to you from the Malibu home of Jonathan and T'Pol Archer. We are about to hear an announcement from Admiral Dexter Stevens, military leader of Starfleet.
Karen, who had been only half listening, sat up and yelled out, "Mom, come here!"
Kayoko Maxwell hurried from the kitchen, "What's the matter?"
Kayoko quickly sat down next to her daughter.
Admiral Stevens has reached a podium sat up outside the front of the house. With him is another man in a Commander's uniform.
I have asked our broadcasting stations to give me this time so that I could inform you of the following: Admiral Jonathan Archer is close to death. With me is Commander Gerald Hansen, chief Medical Officer for Starfleet. Commander.
Jonathan Archer has suffered a massive heart attack. Although he is currently comfortable and able to speak, the end may come at any time. There is nothing anyone can do.
Kayoko turned to her daughter, "We must get over to the home as soon as possible. I just hope Grandmother is not watching this."
"I wouldn't think so, Mom, she is usually resting at this time."
"I hope you're right. I'll call Dr. Jackson and make sure no one tells her the news until we get there. Go get the car out, I'll also call your father and let him know."
It was late in the afternoon on Tardon V, a small planet containing a remote Andorian Science Station.
T'Les Mercy Archer was looking through a scanner, relaying information to a female Andorian, who was transcribing the information on a PADD.
Suddenly, a voice came over the intercom, "T'Les, could you please report to my office?"
T'Les made an unvulcanlike sigh and raised her head from the scanner, "I wonder what he wants now."
Malai smiled, "The most logical way to find out would be to go to his office."
T'Les turned and glared at her, Shran's granddaughter was her best friend, but she could be a real pain at times.
"I thought I told you to lay off that 'Logical' crap."
Malai's smile broadened, "No way, not after all the times you have pointed out how illogical we Andorians are."
T'Les, as she headed out the door, "Actually, I think I said irrational."
When T'Les entered the Director's office, she noted he seemed more somber than usual. She suddenly had a feeling of dread.
He reached out and put his hand on her shoulder, "T'Les, I don't know an easy way to say this. We received a subspace message from your mother; your father is dying."
As tears threatened to form in T'Les's eyes, her Vulcan training stopped their formation. She took a deep breath and managed to remain calm. She had to admit she was shocked. Although 110 was still an advanced age for a human, she had always marveled at how he had cheated death so many times.
The Director had gone on, "She also informed us that the Federation Starship Saratoga is on its way to pick you up. It should arrive early tomorrow morning."
In spite of herself, T'Les showed her amazement, "The Saratoga?"
Saratoga was the pride of Starfleet, the fastest ship in the fleet. She smiled to herself thinking her father's name still carried weight. Or was it her mother's stubbornness.
"She also sent you this message. She said you would understand it." He handed her a PADD.
T'Les looked at it, it was written in ancient Vulcan, a language her mother had insisted she learn.
Your Father has told me that he will not let death claim him, until you are by his side.
Once again she fought tears and thought, 'I will be with you, Father.'
She turned to the Director, "If you will excuse me, I need to prepare. My projects…"
"Don't worry, you can resume them, when you return."
"I hope that I can. I have enjoyed and been challenged by my time here."
As she exited, he called after her, "Good Luck, T'Les."
As she walked down the hall toward her quarters, she remembered when she was only ten and balked at learning to meditate. "I am half Human and I do not wish to control my emotions." He had pretended to be angry with her and told her she was also half Vulcan. Actually, Phlox had suggested she was more like 3/4ths Vulcan. As he was speaking, her mother had come into the room. Smiling, her father had gone on, "Besides, look at your mother, she meditated and look how perfect she turned out." His mother had tried to frown at him but her eyes twinkled and when he took her into his arms, the love between them had brought joy to T'Les.
Hoshi Sato Mayweather was not happy. She did not like to be kept in the dark and something was definitely going on. One of the interns had been stationed just inside her door and was not allowing her to leave or allowing anyone to enter. They were also ignoring her repeated jabbing of her emergency button. The intern was also studiously ignoring her. She thought of pretending to faint or scream in pain, but decided that would be too drastic. She also had eliminated ramming the intern with her chair although she had threatened to do so. Just then, the intern gave a sigh of relief and he left his post as her granddaughter and great-granddaughter entered the room. Narrowing her eyes at them, "I should have known you two were behind this. What is going on? Am I dying?"
Her daughter quickly answered, "No, Mother, you are not dying. It is just there is some bad news we wanted you to hear from us."
Turning serious, Hoshi asked, "It's not Peter, is it?"
Karen answered, "No, Dad's fine."
There was silence for a moment and then her granddaughter touched her arm and said quietly, "Admiral Archer is dying."
Hoshi looked stunned and then smiled, "Don't worry, that man has been announced dead more than once, he'll pull through."
Then, seeing the look on their faces, "What happened? How much time does he have?"
Kayoko answered, "He had a massive heart attack and they say it could be any time."
Wiping at the tears that suddenly appeared, Hoshi quickly sat up and said, "Well, then be better get going. Where's he at?"
Her granddaughter stared at her, "He is at his home in Malibu, but what do you think you are going to do?"
"I am going to him. If you think I am going to let Jonathan Archer die without me doing all I can to be there, you are sadly mistaken."
"You are in no condition to travel across the country. I am going to get Dr. Jackson."
"Fine, get that quack, but nothing is going to stop me."
Karen went to her side, "Please, Grandma, I don't want anything to happen to you."
Hoshi reached out and tenderly touched her face, "I'll be all right."
At that moment, Kayoko returned with Dr. Jackson, "Doctor, will you tell her she is in no condition to travel and put an end to this nonsense."
Dr. Jackson looked uncomfortable but said, "Hoshi, I am afraid I agree with your granddaughter. You cannot travel without constant medical attention. And frankly, the cost of doing so would be prohibitive even if we could find someone who would authorize it." He looked sadly at her, "I know this is important to you but it is not something that would warrant a full medical crew."
Hoshi seemed undeterred. She smiled and answered, "So, if I can find a medical shuttle to take me, I have your permission?"
Dr. Jackson nodded, but it was apparent he knew it was not going to happen.
After he left, Hoshi guided her wheelchair to the monitor in her room. "Karen, get your grandmother her handbag please."
When Karen gave it to her, she opened it and pulled out a small PADD. She looked up a telephone number and said it into the monitor. The face of a Starfleet Officer appeared, "Were you trying to contact the residence of Admiral Jonathan Archer?"
"Yes, this is Hoshi Sato Mayweather and I need to talk to T'Pol Archer."
"I'm sorry, but Admiral Stevens has ordered that no calls will be allowed."
"But she will want to talk to me! Please let her know I am calling."
"My orders are explicit, no calls and no exceptions." The screen faded to black.
Karen reached out and touched her shoulder with a look of sympathy.
Hoshi, however, seemed undaunted. Entering a code on her PADD, she brought up another telephone number and other information. While the others looked on in bewilderment, she entered the numbers.
The face of a Commander in Starfleet appeared, "This is Commander Barrows of Starfleet Security, how may I help you?"
"Commander, this is Hoshi Sato Mayweather, subject number 13478B, I am calling to be connected to T'Pol Archer."
With the others now looking on in amazement, the Commander answered, "Will you please enter your security code?"
Quickly typing a code, Hoshi could not help but enjoy the reaction of her granddaughter and great-granddaughter.
Checking information in front of him, the Commander went on, "Thank you, hold for just a moment."
Then, as the others stared, T'Pol appeared on the screen, "It is agreeable to hear from you, Hoshi."
"Thank you, T'Pol, I wish it were under better circumstances. I heard about Jon; I am so sorry."
"Yes, it has been difficult."
"Is T'Les there?"
"No, unfortunately she was working at a remote Andorian Science station, but she is on her way home."
Hoshi hesitated, "I called because I need your help."
"What is it you require?"
"I want to come and see you and Jonathan, but my doctor and family will not let me go unless I can travel in a fully equipped and staffed medical shuttle."
"Jonathan and I appreciate you wishing to come, but we do not wish for you to put your health at risk."
"T'Pol! You know very well that nothing would stop you and Jon from coming to me if the situation were reversed."
T'Pol's face changed to what Hoshi always saw as her smile even though she did not smile at all. "Very well, I will talk to Admiral Stevens. At what number can you be contacted?"
Hoshi gave her the number and T'Pol signed off.
Turning to face the questions she could see on the others' faces, she smiled, "Jon gave me that information many years ago saying that if a situation ever came up where I needed to contact him and normal channels didn't work, to use it."
After thinking for a few minutes, "Could you two come with me? I would really appreciate it."
Kayoko looked at her quizzically, "You're sure you will be going?"
Hoshi smiled broadly, "You do not know T'Pol Archer. Believe me, it will get done."
Although still not completely convinced, Kayoko smiled and said, "We'll be glad to go with you."
Karen broke in excitedly, "It's true? We are going to go with Grandma?"
Kayoko smirked, "Of course, you know how much trouble your grandma can get into when we are not around."
Hoshi tried to glare at her, but reached out and squeezed her hand.
It was less than an hour later when Hoshi's monitor buzzed. When Hoshi wheeled over and pushed a button, the face of a Commander in Starfleet appeared.
"I am Doctor Harold Watson of Starfleet Medical, am I speaking to …" checking a PADD, "Hoshi Sato Mayweather?"
"I'm Hoshi."
"Is there someone I can talk to about your medical history and condition?"
"Yes, his name is Doctor William Jackson, I will connect you with him."
Hoshi transferred the call to Jackson. About fifteen minutes later it buzzed again. It was again Doctor Watson, "Can you be ready to board a Medical Shuttle by 2100 hours tonight?"
Hoshi looked at the clock, "Yes, can my granddaughter and her daughter accompany me?"
"That should be no problem. I will need to check with Captain Wilson but I am sure he will agree. If I should be wrong, I will contact you again, otherwise, we will see you at 2100."
As Kayoko and Karen smiled happily, Doctor Jackson came in ruefully shaking his head, "Hoshi, I didn't realize you had such pull. Doctor Henson said his superior came running to him saying that Admiral Stevens himself had called, saying he needed a fully loaded Medical Shuttle with the best staff that could be put together. They were to be ready ASAP to convey Hoshi Sato Mayweather to Admiral Archer's residence."
For the first few days after receiving the news, the TBS stations filled the airways with the story of Jonathan Archer.
After the charter for the Federation was signed, everyone assumed that Jonathan Archer would be on the Federation Council perhaps even the President. He stunned them when he announced he had discussed the situation with President Warren and decided he would take on another role.
The first four members of the council were Lester Warren, Soval, Shran, and Margot with Soval serving as President.
As for Archer, he had arranged to fulfill his lifelong dream to explore. He assumed command of the Saratoga and accompanied by the Admiral Forrest commanded by Malcolm Reed, he, T'Pol and T'Les would spend the next four years traveling to possible additions to the Federation. The last year of the voyages, they were joined by the rest of the original bridge crew and their families, plus Phlox and his.
At the end of the four years, Archer did join the Council and served two terms, one as President.
Upon leaving the Council, he served for ten years as Ambassador to Andoria where Shran, Jhamel, Archer, and T'Pol realized their dream of their children playing together.
After leaving Andoria, T'Pol took the position of Ambassador to Vulcan where they served for another ten years. During her tour, they spent time with T'Pau and T'Les was able to be exposed to her mother's heritage.
They then returned to Earth and retired to their home at Malibu.
One disadvantage of living so long was outliving your friends.
A few years after the creation of the Federation, Phlox and Feezal decided to return to Denoblia so Bordog could experience his heritage and be involved with his extended families.
After they passed away, Bordog also became a doctor, but remained on Denoblia.
After Lester Warren served two terms as President of Earth, he decided that building Spaceships and warp drives should be under the control of Starfleet and the Federation. After discussing it with Trip and his son David, Warren Enterprises came under the control of Starfleet.
The whole company was renamed the Henry Archer & Lester Warren Complex.
When Rose was thirteen, Trip and Natalie told her about her father and the circumstances of her birth. To their dismay, she took it hard and withdrew within herself. She then became obsessed with finding her other family. With her parents' help, she was reunited with her mother and her other siblings.
To everyone's relief, that seemed to create closure for her and she regained her love of life. She became a psychologist and specialized in helping those traumatized by rape.
Trip and Natalie died within a few months of each other with Archer and T'Pol speaking at their funerals. After Trip's death, they traveled to Elizabeth's grave.
Malcolm Reed lived out his dream of being a Starship Captain, although he did find time to father a child with Penelope. He died while saving the life of one of his crewmen.
A Starship was named after him.
Three years after he died, Penelope married Jeremy Winston, retaining the last name of Reed. She moved into the old house and her son carried on the tradition of a Reed living there.
Travis lived long enough to see his children grow to adults. His legacy carried on in the students he had taught.
John and Jane McBride made a decision similar to that of Lester Warren and sought to have the McBride Foundation become a part of the Federation.
It soon spread out through the planets of the growing Federation, carrying Mercy McBride's presence into space as she had always dreamed.
Edward Crowder and his wife and son stayed with the Foundation and traveled to many planets. Howard, who proved to be as brilliant as his father, carried on after their deaths.
Dawn Warren joined Starfleet and served as a communications officer aboard various starships.
Warren Baxter looked around the table in the conference room of TBS World Headquarters. "I called this meeting to discuss what has happened in reference to the Jonathan Archer story after five days and how we should continue." He hesitated, "Dave, why don't you start."
"Actually, there is not much to report. We have cameras in front to cover the shuttle landing area and the path to the house. We of course cover all announcements. It's been pretty dull for the last three days since Hoshi Mayweather arrived."
John Andrews spoke up, "How about the people carrying on a vigil out front? Any human-interest stuff there?"
Dave answered, "Nah, I doubt it. In the first place, there aren't that many, and most of them are people that follow all disasters or events like this."
John Heming broke in, "As far as I can see it, the next possible big event is when his daughter shows up."
They all stared when Baxter jumped up from his seat, "That's it. It's been in front of us all along."
As the other looked questioningly at him, he continued, "Don't you see? It's the suspense we need. Will she get there on time? Will she be there when he dies?"
The others were catching up. Heming spoke first, "We can get with Starfleet. We can have a running clock on the screen counting down to when she is due to arrive."
As the others smiled, Dave broke in, "It sounds great. But couldn't it be considered exploitive? Will Starfleet go along? How about T'Pol and Archer himself?"
Baxter considered what he said, "You could be right and we of course will okay it with them, but I think they will go along. We will have everyone pulling for them."
In the end he was right. Although T'Pol was hesitant at first, she was persuaded when Jonathan warmed to the idea. He told her it would give him strength to know so many others were pulling for it to happen.
In the end, it turned out to be much more that Baxter had envisioned. All around the world and on other planets of the Federation, there were huge turnouts of people expressing their hopes and prayers for T'Les arriving on time.
Hugh crowds gathered in the fields around the Malibu home standing vigil.
Many of them became overnight sensations as they were interviewed by TBS.
Each day they awoke awaiting the news that Archer was still alive.
When the day finally arrived, all eyes were on the sky.
Then, came the announcement, the Saratoga had entered the Solar System. The crowd let out a huge cheer and everyone looked for the ship. When it arrived, the cheers grew louder. At that moment, a shuttle broke loose from the ship and headed toward them, landing at the end of the path.
Suddenly, amazingly, the whole crowd went silent as T'Les stepped out onto the path and started walking down it.
Then, someone yelled, "It's T'Pol!"
The crowd turned their heads and saw T'Pol come down from the house and stand at the end of the path.
When T'Les saw her mother, she started to run. Everyone looked in awe. She ran faster than any human, more like a graceful animal, her hair flowing behind her.
The announcer for TBS who had already uttered the words he had hoped would live on, now uttered words that would be remembered instead. He burst out, "Holy Crap!"
When T'Les reached her mother, they embraced. Then with T'Pol's arm around T'Les's shoulder, they headed for the house.
As they entered, Hoshi looked up and smiled. T'Les briefly responded before she and her mother went up the stairs.
As they neared the room, her mother warned her she might be shocked by her father's appearance.
In spite of the warning, T'Les had to take a moment to recover when she saw the wasted body lying in the bed. His eyes were closed and she was afraid she was too late.
But as she approached the bed, his eyes opened and she felt her eyes water as she saw the look of joy on his face.
She leaned over and kissed him softly on the forehead. He smiled, "I knew you would make it."
"I am here, Father."
He managed to raise a hand and touch her face, "I love you, T'Les."
Now, letting the tears form she reached up and touched his hand, "I love you, Father."
Removing his hand, he smiled, "Now, don't cry. I have cheated death so many times. I have only lasted because I would not die without you by my side."
Realizing the end was near, T'Les stepped back so T'Pol could be with him.
T'Pol had always known that this scenario would likely exist. That he would die long before her. She knew she should be grateful that they had so many years together, but all she knew was that she was not ready for him to go. She realized she would never be ready.
She reached down and gently held him, kissing him softly on the mouth.
He stroked her hair, "No man has ever been so lucky. I still marvel to know that you love me. I love you T'Pol of Vulcan. You were my life."
T'Pol let the tears form, "I know Vulcans do not believe in luck but that does not stop me from believing I am the lucky one. I could have never believed I would be capable of loving someone like I love you."
Then, Jonathan Archer, who had cheated death so many times, who had refused to die until he saw his daughter, finally surrendered and let death claim him.
T'Les and T'Pol embraced each other sobbing uncontrollably. It would be the only time they would cry for him.
Finally, they recovered and stepped away from each other. Now stoic, they refreshed themselves in the adjoining bathroom and made their way down the stairs, holding hands.
When they reached the bottom, Hoshi looked up and immediately knew that Jon was dead and began to cry softly. Her granddaughter and great-granddaughter quickly moved to console her.
T'Pol turned calmly and said, "Doctor, you need to go to him now."
She and T'Les then went over to join with Hoshi and the others.
Outside, the crowd was growing restless. Logically, they knew that T'Les had arrived in time. But after waiting so long, they could not shake the unreasonable fear that something had happened at the last minute. Until they knew for sure, there was still a feeling of dread.
All of them held their breath as they saw Doctor Hansen and Admiral Stevens make their way to the dais.
The Doctor spoke, "Admiral Jonathan Archer has died. As Stanton once said of Abraham Lincoln, he now belongs to the ages."
The crowd accepted that. But there was something else they needed to know.
The Doctor gave a small smile, "His wife and daughter were by his side."
The crowd erupted, letting out all the tension that had existed since their vigil had begun. Lovers hugged lovers, friends hugged friends and strangers hugged strangers.
Inside, T'Pol and T'Les looked up as they heard the cheers. Hoshi stared in amazement as T'Pol smiled.
It was arranged for Jonathan Archer's coffin to lie in state at each of the four original planets of the Federation. At each stop, T'Pol and T'Les sat stoically behind it as the long lines passed by. Occasionally, they would have someone join them. On Earth it was Trip's son Charlie assisted by his son.
On Vulcan, T'Pau sat the entire time with them.
On Andoria, T'Les was surprised and gratified to see that Malai had returned and sat with them. They were also honored when the current Queen spent time with them as well.
On Tellar, it was the granddaughter of Gral and Margot.
On each planet they took the time to visit the resting places of those who had meant so much to T'Pol and Archer. On Earth, they visited the graves of Trip and Natalie as well as those of Elizabeth and Mercy McBride.
On Vulcan it was Soval and explaining to T'Les who he was, the unmarked grave of Solon.
On Andoria, they visited the tombs of Jhamel and Shran as well as the wall of heroes.
On Tellar, it was the monument to Gral.
After all the ceremonies were done, the coffin was loaded aboard the newly christened Jonathan Archer. They traveled to the site of the deciding battle of the Romulan War so 'Jonathan could be with Porthos.'
Then, with the entire crew and Admiral Stevens present, T'Pol said the words that Jonathan had said at the same spot so long ago.
"Today we are gathered to honor the life and death of one who gave his life in the line of duty. While it is proper that we do so, we must humbly admit that our words cannot possibly reflect the depth of his sacrifice. Yet they are all that we have to express our deepest admiration and gratitude. As long as the stars exist, he will travel among them. As long as beings strive for freedom, he will be remembered."
She then stood at attention, commanding "Tenhut!"
As everyone in the room came to attention, the 'coffin' moved down the chute and was sent into space. T'Pol intoned, "Good journey, Admiral Archer," then in a whisper, "Goodbye, my love."
The sound of Taps filled the Bay.
A/N Oh, that minor character that I mentioned in notes to Chapter 76. It was Myra who babysat T'Les in The Needs of the Many and was mentioned as a babysitter for Charlie a couple of times.
