Yaz didn't fully understand what was happening given how quickly things had escalated after she and the dark-skinned woman the Doctor had only introduced as 'Mals' had managed to drag the unconscious Doctor into the safety of the TARDIS.

"You know I don't really think….." she started to say only for the mysterious and a little bit seductive Mals to quiet her with a snap of her fingers. The doors closed seconds later, and the engines hummed to life "We can't leave now." Yaz yelped grabbing onto the railing by the now closed doors while the other woman braced herself over the still unmoving Doctor as the time ship vanished into the vortex.

"Your mates will be fine. Left them at the tables with another hundred or so credits so it should keep them out of trouble for a few," the younger woman laughed humorlessly taping another lever with a soft hum of understanding as the time ship jerked to one side before stabling itself out "Sorry love." She coos resting a hand against the sinter crustal which seemed to glow an even brighter gold than before under her touch. "it's us they are chasing now." She finishes her eyes landing back on Yaz's.

The policewoman pales a little at that. Chasing them? Who was chasing them?

"Don't worry spitfire. I know a place we can bunk down for an hour or two until the heats off. They'll never think to look there."

She sounded so confident that Yaz relented with a stiff nod. "Alright, alright but make it fast. I don't want to leave the boys unsupervised too long." She pauses thinking things over before adding "And my name is Yaz not 'spitfire'" although not even she needed to spot a mirror to tell she was blushing at the nickname.

"Melody." Mels holds out her hand across the console "Melody Pond." The way she says it. Like she was testing it out on her tongue as if she hardly ever uses her own name. Curious yet cute at the same time as Yaz's hand closes over her own. "The Doc's wife." She adds with a smug grin "just married—although considering we got wedding crashed before we could do more than get to the end of the row-"

"What?!" Yaz gapes still trying to keep the Doctor stabilized as the TARDIS jerks and spins into the vortex.

"How was I to know the ring I picked out was already stolen," Mels argues still twirling smoothly around the controls with an ease that not even the Doctor herself possessed when flying the alien ship.

"So, what that ring was meant to be your something barrowed?" Yaz scoffed

Mels laughed aloud at that "You know I hadn't thought of it like that but yeah you could say that." She nodes peaking around the main crystal at the pair still kneeling on the floor.

The Doctor yet to move beyond the steady rise and fall of her breathing with Yaz kneeling at her side. "I mean I didn't think she'd been so keen on this wedding bit but then she was and come on even you have to admit she looks pretty sharp all dressed up like that." Mels sighs dreamily. "Love the bowtie." She giggles

Yaz rolls her eyes at that as she tugs the thing in question undone to check again at the Doctor's pulse point. "What happened to her?"

"She covered me on the way out when our uninvited guests started shooting."

"Was she hit?" Yaz asked more panicked than before but Mels was already shaking her head

"Not directly but when the pillar blew apart, she took a hit to her head knocked her out for a little while but no lasting damage." The dark-skinned woman started running her hands in the Doctor's shortcut locks as the TARDIS started to stabilize itself warning they were reaching their destination.

"Number 13 Bannerman Road." Yaz reads from the computer screen.

Mals smiles patting the large crystal in the center of the console lovingly. "Perfect landing as always love." Earning a soft happy chirp in reply.

"What are you—" Yaz questions when once again Mels sweeps the unconscious blonde bridal style into her arms the doors already standing open for them at the end of the ramp.

"You coming or what?" Mels asks meeting Yaz's unamused glare over her shoulder. The policewoman needed to remind herself that the only reason she wasn't punching this woman was because the Doctor wouldn't be pleased.

Yaz just wished the blonde-haired time woman would confide in the rest of her so-called 'fam' as to why she would continuously risk everything just for a smile from the strange weapons-wielding woman she'd apparently been so keen on marrying.

"Don't worry. Ol' SJS won't mind if we stay around a while so long as we don't make too much mess." Mels shrugs looking back over her shoulder with a pleased grin on her lips after using the Doctor's sonic to unlock the door to the brownstone. "Tea?"

"SJS?" Yaz asks following the other woman down the hall into what turned out to be the living room.

Mals nodes gingerly laying the blonde in her arms onto the sofa. "Sarah Jane Smith obviously." She smiles covering the sleeping Doctor with her leather jacket while she looks over her shoulder at Yaz.

"Sarah Jane Smith?" the policewoman repeats

"Sweet woman SJ." Mels nodes gesturing toward one of the pictures on one of the bookshelves.

A kind-faced woman with long dark-colored hair wearing black color pants, a maroon shirt, and a leather jacket was smiling at her as she knelt beside a curiously metal-looking dog.

"Helped me out a time or two when I needed a place to stay before I managed to find my parents." Mals sighs. "Told me a few things about my time boy too. Once she found I was looking for him as well as for my parents." She laughs.

Mal's eyes softened as she continued dabbing at the Doctor's forehead with the damp cloth. "Wonder why most of her stuff is packed away."

Yaz was wondering this as well noting several half-packed up boxes littering the space. "Maybe she's moving?" the dark-haired policewoman started picking through some of the cards and papers closest to her it didn't take long until she found a notice baring a familiar name.

"She wouldn't leave Smithy all alone up in the attic." Mels denies her gaze suddenly hard when it meets Yaz's own whilst the startled companion stuffs the funeral notice into her jacket pocket.

"Stop fighting." A rough voice cuts in "Gah what hit me this time?" Both women turn as one when the blonde between them tries and fails to sit up on her own one hand cupping her own head the other patting the space at her side until she finds Mel's hand to intertwine their fingers. "All that time thinking up vows and I didn't even get to kiss the bride." The Doctor pouts.

"Just promise next time we get married you make it a good one and we'll call it square 'kay?" Mels suggests a shy blush coloring her cheeks.

"Promise."
