Kelly smiled as she looked out at all the people who'd come to her campaign rally today, since it showed just how much support she'd gained in her campaign. They were holding the rally in the Heights, which was basically National City's version of Star City's Glades, since it was where the poorer and more underprivileged people of the city lived, including numerous alien refugees. Kelly had chosen the Heights for the rally because she wanted to make sure the people who lived there knew that she would not neglect them as many other politicians had, especially since she knew that her greatest opponent, Councilwoman Jean Rankin, would never be caught dead in the Heights unless it was to cause some kind of harm to it.

Anyways, while her campaign manager had been skeptical at first, he had to admit that Kelly had been right, since a rally like this would definitely increase her odds of winning, since she was making an effort to connect with her constituents in a way that none of her opponents were.

"Ready to go?" her manager asked.

"Let's officially get this started." Kelly said as she went out to take the stage where a large crowd, which included the other members of the Legion, even if they were scattered slightly in it, were waiting. Kelly smiled when she saw Alex, J'onn, Brainy and Lena standing near the front, with Krypto of course right next to Lena, barking happily for Kelly while she saw that Kara and Nia were standing with the rest of the press who'd shown up for the rally, since they were reporters.

"Thank you all for coming out here to support me today. I'm thrilled to be able to have the this opportunity to serve the city that's given all of us so much and I'm not just talking about the bragging rights of having our own superhero, though honestly, I don't think I can do a speech without at the very least thanking Supergirl for everything she's already done for this city and I hope that we can continue to count on her to help protect us. But anyways, I may not have been born here in National City, but it's quickly become my home. It's where my work is, my friends are and it's where I met the woman I love. This city is home and I love it. And more importantly, I care about everyone in it, not just the people who have their names on buildings or who live in large houses. I care about people like you. The regular people who make our city run. Whether they come from here on Earth or from the stars above. And I promise that if I'm elected mayor, I'll do everything in my power to make sure that no matter where you come from or how much money you make, you'll always feel at home in this city." Kelly said as everyone cheered and clapped for her before Kelly opened the floor to questions and like usual, she picked Kara first.

"Ms. Olsen, if elected, what exactly do you plan to do to follow up on your promise of helping aliens in this city?" Kara asked and Kelly smiled, since of course Kara would be the one to ask that question.

"I'm planning on writing up an equal rights act for aliens that will give them the same rights as any other immigrants in this city and allow them to receive all of the benefits any other citizen of our city would receive." Kelly said as she continued to answer a few more questions.

After she'd answered the last question, Kelly knew it was time for the last thing that been on the agenda, even though it wasn't on the schedule, since she'd been keeping it a secret and only a few people at the rally knew what it was, but now it was time.

"Okay everyone, before I let you go and enjoy the rest of the rally, I have one last thing to talk about." Kelly said and she smiled when she saw the confused look on Alex's face, since her girlfriend hadn't known about this, which was kind of the point. Especially when she noticed that Kara had pulled out her phone and was now on a facetime call with Eliza.

"There's one person in the crowd who's had my back every step of the way during this journey and now I want her to join me up here so you can all see her the way I do. Alex." Kelly said as J'onn, Brainy and Lena all forced her girlfriend to join her up on stage.

"Kelly, what is going on?" Alex asked.

"Something that could've been avoided if you'd acted sooner." Kelly said as she pulled a small box out of her pocket and to not only Alex's shock, but the shock of everyone besides the members of the Legion, she got down on one knee and opened the box to reveal a beautiful ring.

"Alex Danvers, you have been my rock since the day we first met back when we were both deployed overseas and we've been together long enough for me to know that I could not imagine living my life with anyone other than you. Will you marry me?" Kelly asked and Alex was speechless with joy before she noticed a red light on Kelly's chest and quickly jumped on top of her and screamed in pain as she felt a bullet pierce her spine and Kelly's eyes went wide with horror as she saw blood coming from Alex's wound as the crowd dissolved into panic.

"Alex." Kelly vaguely heard Kara shout before she was quickly at her side, and so was Krypto.

"Find whoever did this." Kelly said to Kara.

"Trust me, I will. Krypto, stay here and guard. Anyone tries to attack either of them, respond with extreme prejudice." Kara said, grateful that Krypto had begun to master his powers so she could turn off his dampening collar.

Krypto barked to indicate that he understood as he moved to guard both of those ladies while Kelly quickly snapped into field medic mode and began trying to stop the bleeding while Kara moved to change into Supergirl and Kelly briefly noticed that the other Legionnaires had already suited up, since Dreamer, Brainiac 5 and Martian Manhunter were moving to help with the evacuation and so was Lena while Supergirl was clearly on the hunt for the shooter, but none of that mattered to her. All that mattered was that Alex survived.

"I've already called for an ambulance." Lena said as she joined Kelly to help keep Alex alive.

"Good. I just hope that Kara will catch whoever the shooter is." Kelly said.

"I'm more concerned with who hired them, since there's no way this wasn't some kind or strategic attack on you." Lena said.

"My money is on Councilwoman Rankin. She's my top opponent in the race and she hates everything I stand for. And if she is responsible for this, she better hope she can get out of this city before I get my hands on her." Kelly said tearfully.

"Hey for right now, focus on keeping Alex alive until the ambulance gets here and before you even think about it, I will be covering all of her medical expenses." Lena promised.

"Thank you. This is not how I wanted this day to go. I was hoping that today would end with Alex and I being engaged, not her clinging to life for taking a bullet that was meant for me." Kelly said.

"Don't worry about that right now. Focus on Alex. She's going to need you now more than ever." Lena reminded her.

"I know." Kelly said, though it still broke her heart to see this as Lena got a text from Kara.

"That's Kara. Supergirl just dropped the shooter off at the precinct and she's heading to Midvale now to pick up Eliza." Lena said.

"Good. She should be here for this." Kelly said as the ambulance arrived.

Sorry about this, but honestly, it seemed like too great of an opportunity to miss, especially with the story arcs it can provide.
