Marco and Jackie

When Marco falls in love with Jackie, it's because Jackie understands him. She really does. How could she not after he spent hours forcing his insecurities out in front of her because of a Demon Curse? But perhaps that isn't enough, for Jackie's understanding is what allowed her to let Marco go. Perhaps for a true love to blossom, Marco has to understand her.

On the dock, after a date perhaps Marco had enough willpower to leave the cape-that-was-really-a-meat-blanket behind. Perhaps, after Jackie tries to let him go for his own good, he refuses to let such a selfless person leave his life. Whatever the reason, Marco stays with Jackie. He does one better, when he goes to visit Star later, he brings her along.

Between Star and Marco, there is no Squireship, merely two friends who hang out and get into adventures together, Marco had Dimensional Scissors after all, so much remains unchanged. There is less awkwardness perhaps as the two of them settle into seeing other people. But Marco is still the one that Star confides in as she changes into a golden butterfly in her sleep., and Marco is still the boy who helps her in her attempts to help Monsters.

Jackie and Marco carry on. Date after date they get to know each other better. There are highs and lows. For a time, Jackie is unsure as Marco goes to see Star, but Marco is a bit more perceptive and so, he invites her to share in his adventures and she accepts. After school, it becomes common for them to walk through a portal to Mewni, to the Bounce Lounge (before it closes), and to the arcade dimension to enjoy themselves. Their greatest find is a dimension that functioned as a worldwide skate rink. Marco becomes rather good at skateboarding, though nowhere near as good as Jackie. Jackie in turn learns how to defend herself as Marco coaches her on Karate.

Jackie cannot help but marvel at Marco. The boy who'd nodded at her for years and never spoke a word but to splutter, revealed more and more to her that he was at once sensitive, loyal, and brave. Marco grows into a man most women would dream of, and he chose her. One day, when she watches him help Star look after Buff-frog's children, she realizes that she loves him. Not a crush, she well and truly loves him and wants to spend the rest of her life with him. Whether it be on Earth, Mewni, or exploring the vastness of the Universe, Jackie knows then and there that Marco is who she wants to marry and have children of her own someday with.

Marco on the other hand is constantly in awe with his luck. Jackie was, for him, the unattainable. An angel that he felt unworthy of speaking to until he realized that his life was going to pass him by if he didn't at least start somewhere. And even after all the embarrassments he suffered in front of her, she still let him in. After they started to date, he got to know her. He sees a beautiful and confident young woman who doesn't need much, she just loves life and likes experiencing it. He sees a new side of her when he brings her to Mewni and she sees Monster oppression. The confidence he saw in her transforms to determination to do something to right this wrong. She and Star plan the Monster Bash and she is right there with them when it comes to finding the truth of of Mrs. Heinous and Eclipsa. Of all the people in her life, Marco is constantly grateful that she agreed to date him.

He knows he loves her, well and truly loves her, when they are at home with his parents looking at ultrasounds of his soon-to-be sibling. Seeing those pictures, seeing the way she coos over them, and remembering all the things she had done and shown him, makes him realize that Jackie is the girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Jackie was no longer an abstract angel in any sense afterwards, she's the girl that he will love and support through thick and thin, with whom he wants to raise children.

Of the two of them, it is Marco who proposes. It is an irony perhaps that, for all her self-confidence, Jackie felt inadequate when compared to Star. A part of her wondered if Marco truly wanted to go off on a permanent adventure with the Princess instead of staying on Earth with a skater girl.

But Marco has since grown wiser and more able to understand Jackie so he assures her that he loves her. Perhaps he proposes early, as Mewni seems to crumble from Mina. Less of a proposal and more of a promise between them that they wished such a thing for later. Perhaps Marco waits until they are legally adults in a combined world brimming with strangeness. Perhaps the Cleave never happens and he and Jackie marry in their own time.

Whatever the timing, the two of them place rings on each other's fingers and, after a kiss, hop on a skateboard and ride off the altar. After the party where all their friends congratulate them, Marco and Jackie live their lives together. Jackie becomes a skateboarding sports star, Marco a world ranked Karate master. Occasionally adventure calls them to Star and co.'s side, but for the most part, they simply live their lives as a married couple, with thankfully much more good than bad.

Their children bear no magic but the ordinary sort of their parents love. Their son, Jam Diaz, is as handsome as Jackie was beautiful, is very into skateboarding and sports to her delight. Their twin daughters, Sarah and Stella, both love karate and adventure. Star spoils them all relentlessly to Marco's despair.

In the end, Jackie and Marco ended up with the person who'd known them all their lives. Someone who could understand and support them, who refused to let go of such a special love. It was no fairytale pairing of a princess and and a her love. Perhaps it was the most mundane of the partners either could've loved. But neither cared for that.

In the end, they are content, and their lives are rich. They are in love, a love that started small but grew through the years. And as both of them relaxed on a beach in Echo Creek as their children and their friend's children played in the water, both were sure they wouldn't change a thing about it.

They were perfectly happy.

Author's Note:

So, I've had an idea where I would make one-shots describing how some of the shipping paths could go for each character. I do wish that the Shipping on the show itself was handled better, but I did enjoy it overall. As you just read, this is less a story and more musing on how the characters could fall in love. Jackie and Marco I think could've worked well, and I somewhat wanted to go with the idea of them being almost a more 'mundane' love. Nothing wrong with that. What we saw of Jackie and Marco's relationship I think was nice and could've built to a very interesting couple if only they'd let her stay in the show. What might've been, lol.

I will state at the outset that there are probably some ships I don't have any interest in covering, such as Marco and Tom. Not really my thing. The only way I can think of writing that in an interesting fashion is if Tom or Marco is a girl.

Most of my ideas will probably center around Marco, as he seemingly gets the most action in the show for potential love interests.

This is a story written for my pleasure, so do not expect consistent updates.

Hope you enjoy! Let me know if you did!
