So...I never thought this would happen but time for another one shot! (Though this might actually be more of a two shot as I just realized this story might be better divided into two parts, this chapter is just set up the second chapter is the actual events of the story) and the reason for this is, I recently got back into the Punch Out fandom again, I was originally wanting the Punch Out characters to make a cameo in the original Mutant Riots quartet but that never came to pass because the story had suffered from too much clutter already, and I realized this was the perfect thing for a short story rather than trying to shoe horn it into a larger though this one has completely different reason for being than the first one shot The Rescue of Glacia that was mostly just for some hurt/comfort fluff (Which one shots tend to be good for) with a little world building on the side, with the title of 'A Disturbing Report' this story has a much different purpose it's mostly for world building, forshadowing and to illustrate a point about hatred specifically about being unable to differentiate the members of a group that hurt from members of that same group who are completely innocent about tarring everyone with the same brush also this story pakes place a few weeks after The Rescue of the Mizzerans but not much in the way of spoilers (I mean it's in the title that the Mizerans get rescued)
One evening Donatello came back to his home dimension of Third Earth to check on how things were going with Leo's Martial Arts School for Mutants, he had been spending most of his time on First Earth with his wife Belladonna he sometimes felt guilty about not spending more time with his brothers and monitering the progress of how things were developing with his own people the Mutant Animals...
He set the potal to appear in the Martial Arts School, and there he found Leo sitting by himself, nursing a cup of green tea while looking at some papers on the table with a face like clouds before a storm.
"Uh...Hey Leo..." Don said quietly "...What been...Going on?"
Leo sighed "Hey Don." He said "Well, I went over this with Raph and Mikey already now it's your turn to hear about it."
"Hear about what?" Don asked as he took a seat at the table.
"This incident that happened yesterday..." Leo sighed
Don at this moment really wished he hadn't stayed nearly a week at First Earth without so much as checking on his own world.
"What the shell happened?" Don asked
"It's a bit of a complicated story..." Leo said as he massaged his temples, so Rover and some of the other advanced class boys had been going over to the human side and had been having talks W. .
"What?" Don was already not liking he was hearing
"Rover's a real fan of the W.V.B.A. Leo said and when he and his buddies went over to visit, some of the guys over there were interested in signing them up as the first Mutant Fighters..."
Don groaned, they all knew about the World Video Boxing Association which had a brief skyrocket in popularity with the rise of Little Mac and his 'David and Goliath' rise through the ranks under the tutalege of former champion Doc Louis and to Leo and Don this stank of desperation to get the ratings back up since the Mutant Animals had been granted civil rights, Mutants were the thing everyone was excited over, and if you asked Raph or Casey who loved super slam hockey they would tell you the W.V.B.A was lousy with rule breaking and it wasn't just Aran Ryan nearly every boxer in recent history broke at least some of the standard rules of boxing it seemed that the W.V.B.A was trying too be the boxing equivilent of Professional Wrestling being more about spectacle than adhering to the standards of boxing but even if didn't meet the standards the likes Raph and Casey apparently it had quite a few fans among the Mutant Community.
Rover a Timber Wolf Mutant, he was very tall and handsome, his fur was a beautiful chesnut color, he was actually only fourteen years old but his size made him look sixteen so humans often thought he was older than he actually was but the Turtles knew he still had the mind of a very young teen, that's why he was in Leo's 'Advanced Class' for Young Mutants who are not prepubesants also he did already have some martial training, Rover was Mutated as a Pup in a secret military lab on the U.S. Canada border a secret experiment is creating Mutant Canine Super Soldiers, he was the only wolf among a pack of domestic dogs at the insistance of one scientist that they at least try it, hoping that a wolf would be stronger, smarter and more resilant than a domestic dog, and was given the name Rover as an attempt of 'Psychological Magic' in that giving him a dog name he would act more dog-like he would sometimes quip 'I'm lucky they didn't name me Fido' but despite all attempts Rover grew up more independent than his wolf brothers and did some secret learning behind his creators' backs he realized he wasn't sure he liked the idea of becoming a super soldier and realized he had to get out before his pack was moved a different station in Alaska for 'Advanced Training' where escape would be much harder.
But before he left some of the few good memories he had was watching Little Mac's journey on TV Rover became entralled! Other than Little Mac his favorite Boxer was Bear Hugger because he was Canadian and because Bear Hugger was well known for his love for animals...So finally being able to meet some of his idols was like a dream come true!
"Did you talk to Rover about this?" Don asked
"I did." Leo said "I reminded him the reason he's in this school is not merely to learn how to fight but to learn how to control his mutant strengh I told him it's one thing when Raph and Casey Wrestle, Raph is not that much larger than a human and Casey is a very strong human but for a Mutant like Rover I warned him that if he wasn't careful he could very likely kill someone like Glass Joe in the ring! And How would he feel about killing one of his heroes? That very quickly made him realize the severity of the situation..."
"So...What exactly was the incident?" Don asked
"An encounter with a visiting Humanimal..." Leo said "...Since Rover was the one who told me everything, and he didn't understand everything there are some holes in the information, so I have been using the technique the Ancient One taught me to try to get a more complete picture..."
I admit part of the reason I decided to write this was the dismal state of Punch Out fanfiction there has been a YouTube video pointing out all the rule violations in Punch Out so I gently poke fun in pointing it out and giving an explanation why'd they'd be so eager to have the first Mutant Fighters
