Kensi and Deeks set off from the seaside town of Felixstowe in Suffolk, England with only the vaguest idea of how to get back to RAF Mildenhall and a flight back to California. They laughed at the ease of the case. The suspected kidnapper had walked up to them and introduced himself. They had made their way from Mildenhall to Felixstowe using Sat Nav, but they didn't have a postcode to get return directions. Even if they did have the postcode it wouldn't have helped, the Sat Nav had stopped working. They decided it shouldn't be a problem if they just went back the same way. They found the main road easily and drove in companionable silence.

After a while Kensi pointed to the fuel gauge "I think we need gas, wasn't there a gas station along here somewhere?"

"Just up ahead" Deeks looked for the envelope "How much money have we got left?"

"I don't know" Kensi shrugged then indicated left and turned onto the forecourt. She stopped beside the first pump.

"What do we need, diesel or regular unleaded? Deeks looked at the pump and scratched his head "How do we open the filler cap?"

"Deeks, we're Federal Agents. I think we can do this" Kensi said looking in the envelope "We've got £80 left. Should be more than enough, we don't need to fill the tank"

"How many litres to the gallon?" Deeks asked.

"What difference does it make?" Kensi selected the nozzle for unleaded petrol and handed it to Deeks, who put the nozzle in the tank and squeezed, but nothing happened.

"Pump No1 please select your payment method." a voice boomed out of the tannoy.

Kensi and Deeks looked at each other and Kensi pressed the button to pay in the kiosk.

"There you are £30.01, a nice round figure" Deeks said as fuel splashed onto his shoes.

With enough fuel to get back to Mildenhall Kensi drove off the forecourt and back onto the main road. After a few miles she pointed to a road sign "A12 London. You said you wanted to see Buckingham Palace" she grinned at Deeks.

"Not gonna lie, I'm tempted but I think we should go home"

"Suit yourself, don't say I didn't offer"

Twenty five miles later Deeks pointed to the right "That's the Sugar Beet Factory, I remember it, Bury St Edmunds, we turn off here"

"You sure about that?" Kensi was doubtful but turned off anyway.

"Yes look there's a sign A1101 Mildenhall"

They carried on enjoying the East Anglian countryside and the picturesque villages.

"That's a strange place to park a tractor" Deeks said "Isn't it the one the guy used to pull us out of the field?" Kensi stopped the car as a small terrier type dog jumped out of the tractor and stood in the road barking at them.

"It's the same guy, I'll see if he needs help" Deeks said getting out of the car. Kensi turned on the hazard lights and followed Deeks. They found the farmer in the cab clutching his chest.

"I think he's having a heart attack. You've still got the phone, dial 911"

"Not 911" the farmer gasped.

"Don't you want help?"

"Dial 999" the farmer whispered before he passed out. Carefully Deeks pulled him out of the cab and onto the verge. When he realised the farmer had stopped breathing Deeks started CPR.

"They want to know our location" Kensi called.

"Just south of Mildenhall, heading north on the A1101" Deeks replied without looking up. Kensi relayed the information, impressed that Deeks knew where he was and embarrassed that she had to ask.

It seemed an eternity before they heard the sound of sirens then a green and yellow ambulance stopped beside the tractor. A green clad paramedic worked alongside Deeks and gradually took over. Another paramedic took details from Kensi. Once it became clear that they weren't needed any more Kensi and Deeks edged away and returned to their car. They breathed a sigh of relief as they drove away and a police car arrived on the scene.

They were soon in the town of Mildenhall and decided not to follow the sign to RAF Mildenhall, but go back the way they came. The plan was to go back through the West Gate, the gate they had left the base. Unfortunately the gate was closed and unmanned. That was the moment they heard a woof coming from the rear seat. They looked round and saw a small brown terrier type dog, smiling at them. Kensi stopped the car.

"Hello boy, what's your name?" Deeks rubbed the dog's ears and looked at his tag. "Hello Harry. I guess you got in the car when nobody was looking. You wanna come home with us?"

"What are we going to do with him? We can't take him back with us"

"Why not?" Deeks rubbed Harry's ears again.

"Just because he's called Harry, it doesn't mean he wants to live in California"

"Look! There's a sign for Greyhound Racing" Deeks pointed to a poster just ahead of them.

"He's not a greyhound"

"No, but there might be somebody who can help us" Deeks looked pleased with himself'

"Okay, whatever you say" Kensi put the car into gear and drove off.

They followed the signs to the greyhound track and parked the car, just as a plane took of from the air base, making them all jump. Deeks used his belt as a makeshift lead for Harry and the three of them entered the stadium.

"Hey Kens! Look at this" Deeks studied the Race Card he had been given. "There is a race with both Martys Turbo and Arkady. How much money do we have left?"

"About £25, you're not going to make a bet"

"Just watch me. Martys Turbo to beat Arkady. Come on Harry" Deeks and his new friend set off to find a bookmaker. Kensi stood shaking her head.

Twenty minutes later Kensi and Deeks cheered home the dog in the red jacket, Martys Turbo just beat Arkady. A jubilant Deeks set off to collect his winnings followed by a bemused Kensi and a happy Harry.

"£175, Baby, that's more than we started with" Deeks said counting his winnings "The bookmaker says he thinks one of the trainers will look after Harry until his master is better. Is this is the guy?" A middle aged man approached the bookmaker, who nodded towards Kensi and Deeks. He had a brindle greyhound on a lead. While Kensi and Deeks gave the man a brief account of the situation and exchanged phone numbers Harry and the greyhound became firm friends.

"I think he's in love" said Deeks as he checked the number on Harry's tag. Once again Kensi and Deeks said their goodbyes. Deeks gave Harry one last ear rub, but the dog was more interested in his new four-legged friend. Kensi passed the envelope to Deeks who returned his stake money "I don't think we can claim a bet as expenses"

He gave the rest of his winnings to the trainer "Perhaps you can buy him a new bed, or some steps so he can…."

"Come on Deeks! Enough" Kensi pulled her husband away.

They found the Main Gate to the Air Base with no problem. As Deeks said it was hard to miss an Air Base. To their surprise the paperwork they had been given when they arrived was accepted and they drove towards the main building. Two hours later they were taking off over the Greyhound track, going home.

Nine o'clock Monday morning Kensi and Deeks strolled into the bullpen, bleary eyed.

"Had a good weekend? How was Hetty?" Callen asked.

"She was good, sent you a present" Deeks rummaged in his bag and handed Callen a box. It was a box of fudge with Greetings from Felixstowe on it.

For anybody interested there are inconsistencies. The story is set in 2021, but the Greyhound track actually called Suffolk Downs, didn't re-open until 2022. The dogs are real dogs but didn't race at Mildenhall.
