Chapter 6: The Dance
Agent BM: You'll find out soon.
On Monday, Lincoln informed the others about what he saw.
"So Kevin really has a sister?" asked Stella.
"Yeah, and they have a real connection." he informed.
The others looked at each other with deep looks.
"Well, if Bessie and Lincoln say he's okay then he must be." said Clyde.
"So I think we can give him a chance."
"I guess we could try." replied Liam.
At lunch, Kevin had just gotten his food, and was looking for a place to sit. At first he was going to sit with Harry and Josh, but to his surprise Bessie and Lincoln were waving him over to their table.
He went over to them, and sat in an empty spot. To his surprise, they were nice and friendly to him. It felt good to be let into their group, and being treated like an actual peer rather than a rich snob.
From the rich kids' table, Harry and Josh looked at the group with angry eyes.
"I can't believe Kevin's joining them." said Harry.
"You know, I always had the feeling that Kevin wasn't truly one of us." Josh replied.
"I guess if we want to have our fun we'll have to do it ourselves."
"Sounds good to me."
Two days before the dance, the group made their plans.
"So we're going together right?" asked Zack.
"You bet." said Stella.
"Thanks for inviting me to hang out with you guys." Kevin told them.
"You're welcome, Kevin." replied Clyde.
"Where should we meet up?"
"You know, I could pick you all up from your houses in my family's limo." offered Kevin.
That sounded good to the others, and gave him their addresses. As the school day went on, Kevin seemed happier hanging out with Lincoln and Bessie's crew rather than with the rich kids. They had nice conversations, told each other jokes, and had a good time together.
On the night of the dance, Kevin got dressed in his nice clothes. A green dress shirt, black dress pants, and black shoes. After he was dressed, there was a knock on his door.
"Come in."
The door opened, and his parents, Rancis and Vanellope stepped in.
"Kevin, the driver's almost ready." Rancis informed.
"Okay, Dad."
"We'll need to get a couple pictures before you leave." added Vanellope.
"Sure, Mom, but I wish Lucy was here."
"We all do, son. But try and have a good time." Rancis advised.
"All right."
After snapping a few pictures, Kevin got in the limo, and after giving the directions to the driver he was off.
Soon, all the kids were picked up. Lincoln wore an orange dress shirt, khaki pants, and brown dress shoes. Clyde had on a white dress shirt, blue tie, black pants, and black dress shoes. Stella wore a simple green dress, and matching shoes.
Liam had on a black polo shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Zack wore a white polo shirt, khaki pants, and brown dress shoes. Rusty had on a flannel red and yellow shirt, brown pants, and sneakers. And Bessie wore a pink dress with glitter, and matching pink flats.
"This is gonna be great." said Bessie.
"You bet, I can't wait to hit the dance floor." Liam piped up.
"I want to try the food." Lincoln told.
When the limo pulled up to the school, the driver let them out. They felt like they were movie stars on the red carpet, as they went into the school. In the gym, the lights were off but a disco ball was hanging from the ceiling, and the reflection from the lights danced all over the place.
Music blasted through the stereos, and everyone was having a good time.
"This is great." observed Bessie.
"Let's join the fun." Lincoln declared, and so they did.
The guys hit the dance floor, while the girls went to the food table.
"The punch is pretty good." said Bessie.
"So are the pigs in blankets." Stella told her.
Then the guys came over and told them they were gonna play a great song next. Bessie looked a bit disappointed. While she really wanted to dance, being in a wheelchair put a stop to that.
"Aren't you coming, Bessie?" asked Liam.
"I can't, guys. I can't dance." Bessie informed them glumly.
The others looked at each other, whispered, and then walked over to her. To Bessie's surprise, Rusty and Kevin grabbed her by the arms, and pulled her out of her chair.
"What are you guys doing?" she wanted to know.
"You deserve to dance like everyone else." Kevin explained.
As they went over to the dance floor, Bessie smiled as her friends help her dance. She moved her feet the music, as she held on tightly to her friends' shoulders.
From the other side of the gym, Harry and Josh were watching the group.
"You got everything ready?" Harry asked Josh.
"You bet." Josh replied.
"When I give the signal you know what to do."
But little did those two know, they were also being watched by someone.
As the night went on, the group had a good time. Bessie glanced over at Kevin, who looked a little down.
"Kevin, what's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing, it's just I wish Lucy was here." he told her.
Bessie put a hand on his arm.
"Don't worry. She'd want you to have a good time."
Kevin smiled a little. Just then, the music stopped, confusing everyone.
"Hey, what's going on?" wondered Stella.
Then a voice was heard over a microphone.
"Attention, everyone."
Everyone looked near the DJ table, and saw the Harry was talking with Josh beside him.
"What are those two doing?" whispered Kevin.
"We just wanted to being attention to a special girl." Harry said.
A light then shined on Bessie.
"What the?" she asked.
"You see, we don't give enough credit to the disabled, and we think it's time we showed you what kind of girl she really is."
This didn't sound good, and Bessie then looked up and saw a large tarp that was right over her. She gasped, and tried to wheel away. But however, before Josh could pull the rope attached to the tarp, the two boys got covered in glue and feathers.
Everyone was shocked at what had just happened, but then they started laughing.
"What the? What happened!?" Harry wanted to know.
"I don't know." Josh replied.
The principal had come over to the scene and demanded to know what was going on. Before Harry and Josh could say anything, a voice spoke up.
"They were going to humiliate Bessie." it said.
Everyone looked, and saw a girl with blonde hair, brown eyes, and wearing a pink dress. Kevin was shocked to see who it was.
"Lucy?" he asked.
"And who're you?" the principal asked.
"She's my sister, sir." Kevin informed.
"Sir, I have proof that these two were going to harm Bessie."
"What proof could you possibly have?" scoffed Josh.
Lucy then pulled out her phone, and played a recording.
"Is everything ready?"
"Yeah, that wheelchair girl won't know what hit her."
"She'll be a laughing stock, and show her her place."
After the recording, the principal looked at the two boys sternly.
Harry and Josh couldn't talk themselves out of this situation, so the principal sent them to the office.
"Lucy what are you doing here?" Kevin wanted to know.
"The doctor's were so impressed and pleased by my recent behavior they decided to let me out for a while." Lucy explained.
Kevin's face broke out into a smile. And the two shared a hug. It was a nice scene to watch. Kevin then introduced his sister to the others, and then they continued having their fun and the dance.
About a month later, Kevin came to school with Lucy by his side. She'd been released from the center, and was now enrolled at Royal Woods Middle School.
"Feels good to be back in school." said Lucy.
"Come on, sis. Let's find the others." Kevin urged.
The twins went inside, and found their new crew by Bessie's locker.
"Hey guys." greeted Lincoln.
And the two greeted them back.
"So any of you guys seen Harry and Josh lately?" asked Clyde.
"No, word is they'll be allowed to come back to school in a few weeks." informed Zack.
"Well it serves them right for what they tried to do to me." Bessie spoke up.
"That was a pretty good prank, Lucy." complimented Rusty.
"Thanks, they deserved it." Lucy told him.
Then the bell rang, and all the friends went to their classes together.
