Chapter 1: Harry Potter and the Nefarious NPC

Harry was basking in the glowing aura of his main character powers in the Gryffindor common room, contemplating his societal relevance, when he suddenly felt a disturbance in the force. An annoying NPC had pervaded his aura of relevance and was destroying the vibe with his one-dimensional NPC-ness. Harry stared at the NPC shrewdly and used his all-encompassing powers to determine the character's name. It was Jimmy Peakes.

Harry gasped indignantly. He had already interacted with this NPC before! Surely he was relevant enough to be interacting with a new NPC!

'Professor-Dumbledore-wants-you-to-go-to-his-office-in-10-minutes,' recited the vibe-destroying Jimmy Peakes, as fast as possible. He seemed to be breathing rather heavily and looked quite disconcerted with the whole encounter. Harry often had that effect on people, he chalked it down to them simply being,' unable to handle the vibe,'.

Harry groaned. He and Ron had been planning to test out the extent of Harry's plot armour by challenging Grawp t duel in the forbidden forest. He had been looking forward to it all week, and now a random sidequest had popped up.

"I had plans for tonight, you know,' said Harry, glaring at Jimmy.

The NPC hastily said,' Professor Dumbledore knows your plans, and would like to add that your plot armour is so strong you could throw yourself off the astronomy tower and land without a scratch, probably,'.

Harry stared. Jimmy tried not to stare back.

'Son of a-,'

How could Dumbledore have known about his plans?

There was only one conclusion: there were spies in the Gryffindor Common Room. He mentally recalled his interactions with his fellow Gryffindors. Ron was too much of a loyal sidekick to snitch. Hermione was blissfully unaware. Neville was too afraid of his own shadow to talk to an authority figure. Dean and Seamus had been drunk for the majority of the week.

'Eh, Dumbledore probably knows everything,' piped up Jimmy, interrupting Harry's internal thought process

'Anyway,' said Harry, trying to move on from the thought that Dumbledore was spying on underage kids, 'Is this meeting with Dumbledore plot relevant?'

The student nodded and then scampered away. Evidently, there was a time limit to how long NPC interactions could last in Hogwarts.

Harry stood up and then straightened his dusty robes. He then proceeded to try and apparate to Dumbledore's office, unperturbed by the fact that this attempt had failed many times previously. Unfortunately, his efforts did not materialise. After several moments of grunting and straining, Harry finally accepted that it would not work. Reassuring himself that one day his main character powers would be strong enough to apparate within Hogwarts, he started the 4-minute walk to Dumbledore's office, praying that no other side quests would ambush him on the way.
