Draco's Pov

Hermione Granger had gone from being a bushy haired know it all to the most powerful witch of all time. And she was absolutely gorgeous.

As she walked quickly to her Ancient Runes lessons, students went out of their way to shout hello or move out of her way. Of course it helped that she was best friends with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, both of whom were prone to glare indignantly at any unfortunate boy who whistled at her. Draco Malfoy had watched the young witch's transformation with admiration; she no longer seemed to be the buck-toothed mudblood who had always been his biggest academic rival. Draco had to restrain himself from throwing himself in front of her and confessing his love when she entered the classroom. Instead he barged purposefully into Potter, enjoying the look of hatred on his face.

"Honestly, Potter, you'd think after fighting a war you would have become less clumsy," he said to sniggers from Zabini, Crabbe and Goyle. Potter growled menacingly and stepped forward but was pulled back by Hermione, beautiful sweet Hermione.

"Honestly, Malfoy, you'd think after fighting a war you would have become a bit more mature," she mimicked mockingly to cheers from the Gryffindors. Potter and Weasely smirked at that, which Draco could tolerate but it took all his strength not to rip Potter's head off when he wrapped his arm around Hermione's waist.

"Ooh Granger and Potter, a bit frisky for so early in the morning," Draco mocked, hoping Hermione would pull away in embarrassment and he nearly got what he wanted but Potter seemed determined to make Draco miserable. Smirking at Draco, the insolent git Potter pulled Hermione in for a kiss earning cheers from the Gryffindors and taunts from the Slytherins. He wanted to hex him then and there and if it wasn't for Blaise he probably would have.

"It's not worth it, mate," the Slytherin whispered into his friend's ear, "She'll hate you if you do and then you can kiss goodbye your chances with her."

Draco nodded but kept his eyes on the couple and was delighted to see that it was Hermione who pulled away and even looked slightly uncomfortable.

"Sorry about that, kids," Professor Babbling squeaked, waddling towards the door, "I had an unfortunate incident with a pumpkin pasty…"

Hermione's Pov

Everyone regarded Hermione as a geek who loved everything learning related but even she admitted that double Ancient Runes was incredibly boring. Her back ached from sitting on the rickety wooden stools Professor Babbling insisted would help their posture and moreover Harry was being weird. The night before he had claimed that he was in love with her and Hermione not wanting to ruin their friendship had agreed to give their relationship a trial run but she hadn't expected Harry to kiss her in front of everyone. It was embarrassing! She almost leapt with joy when she heard the bell ring signalling the next period which she had free.

Harry and Ron had their bags packed in an instant and were looking at her worriedly, wanting to wait for her but also eager to get back to the common rooms as quickly as possible.

"You go without me," she said to the boys.

"You sure?" Harry asked and she nodded.

He planted a quick kiss on her forehead, unaware of Ron's grimace and rushed off. She thrust the last few books into her satchel and swung it over her shoulder, moving towards the door only to find someone blocking it.

"Malfoy," she growled.

Draco's Pov

Draco was looking at her with an unusual combination of love and confusion.

"Move, Malfoy," she said, giving him a shove. That was enough to snap him back to reality and just as she started towards the other door with a sigh he grabbed her hands.

"Why are you dating him? Has he tricked you? Are you under the Imperius curse?" Draco questioned frantically, still holding on to her wrists.

"What are you talking about Malfoy, and let go of my wrists," Hermione practically shouted, squirming against his iron grip.

"I'll let you go when you answer my question," he growled, pushing her against the wall, "Why are you dating that scum, Potter?"

She yelped as his grip intensified out of pure hatred for the boy who lived. "Fine," she yelled, "You really want to know?" He nodded, slightly afraid at the anger of this feisty witch. "I'm dating him because he asked me too! And I told him I didn't like him like that but he asked me to give him a chance and I agreed. You know why? Because he's ten times the man you'll ever be!" and with that she pushed him and ran out the door. He just stood there stunned for about five minutes until Blaise entered to see if he was okay.

"She doesn't like him like that," Draco whispered to his friend, still staring at the door she had left from, as if by staring she would magically come back.

"That's great, mate," Blaise said, "Now you just have to convince her to date you, that's the hard bit."

Draco frowned. Yeah that would be hard, he thought.
