Chapter 42: Samson Says vs. Simon Says.
(Quantic Universe Earth 19274729568301958374, Paris, France, February 7th, 2016, third person POV...)
In the TVi studios, the show known as The Challenge is on the air.
Alec Cataldi remarks before saying, "Hey, everyone, welcome back to everyone's #1 live game show, The Challenge! Let's give it up for our awesome contestant, Nino Lahiffe!"
Adrien lovingly and lightly punches Nino's left shoulder, and Nino enters the stage.
Alec states, "So, Nino, we heard that you're a student and an aspiring DJ, right? (Nino: Mm-hm.) Well, that's pretty cool! Check out the decks we got for you!"
Nino gawks at the DJ station the studio has for him before going over to it and he starts DJing on the decks.
In the Dupain-Cheng living room, Marinette asks somewhat excitedly, "You mean it?! I'm gonna go to the viewing of The Challenge?!"
Tom replies while smiling, "Yes, Marinette. And even better, when Simon Says has come and gone, you'll be going with Adrien to the next episode of The Challenge for the dance-off."
Marinette replies back, "Ahhh."
Marinette hugs her father and then her mother.
Tikki then asks, "But wait, are you going to show up to today's viewing of The Challenge as Marinette or as Ladybug?"
Marinette retorts before answering, "This isn't a coin toss. But in all seriousness, I'm showing up as Marinette. It would actually cause people to start asking questions if Ladybug showed up at the live filming and broadcasting of today's The Challenge episode."
Tikki replies, "Ohhh."
Marinette continues, "And besides, if I can't teleport discreetly to a safe distance to transform into Ladybug when Simon Says attacks, not to worry. Besides, all sorts of security cameras can't record Miraculous transformations from superhuman form to civilian form and back again and the security cameras in question can't film the Miraculous user's presence immediately afterwards. The reason for that entirely is because the technology needed for such filming is not only technologically backwards, but also it has to be of magical origin in order to film Miraculous transformations and the presence of Miraculous users after they transform from civilian form to superhuman form and back again. At the same time, however, kwamis can't be filmed, photographed, or heard in sound recordings used for even telephone calls unless the technology used is of magical origin, such as the butterfly camera Optigami Sentimonster Mayura invented in season 4, and such as the kwami emergency telephone one of my fanfiction counterparts invented using the Sublimation superpower of the Rooster Miraculous during the first four months of being the new Guardian of the Miracle Box in season 4 before the Optigami episode of that fanfiction's universal timeline. On the other hand, if such technology was going to be made by man, it would require a combination of the greatest technological engineers and inventors of today's era so far inventing the basics of the technology and it would also require magical energy, and magical DNA from the kwamis despite the fact that kwamis are nearly invulnerable to physical damage in their physical forms in terms of the fact that their skins can't be pierced by even blood needles, and in addition to the fact that even if the skins of kwamis could be pierced by blood needles, kwamis don't bleed like humans and other Earth creatures do."
Tikki, Tom, and Sabine look at Marinette in shock, never anticipating her foreknowledge combined with her now supernatural scientific ineptitude would make her smart enough to deduce what needs to be invented for the future, even including what technology needs to be invented to film anything or anyone of magical origin. And they were especially also shocked at Marinette's knowledge and theories of kwami physiology.
Tikki replies, "Well, uh, you pretty much nailed it in one, Marinette."
Marinette nods.
Tom then asks, "But in all seriousness, Marinette, I'm glad you told your true origins and your Ladybug identity to me and your mother, as well as revealing to us your plan of using armies of clones to take your place in school for superheroics and vice versa while being able to share each other's memories. Now, if you don't mind me asking, what did your clone do while you were in P.E. on Monday morning?"
Marinette answers, "Simple. She rescued a police helicopter from crashing and burning."
Tom questions again, "And Friday evening when she was in study hall?"
Marinette answers again, "I saved a cat stuck in a tree. Particularly because of the fact that the other Cats in our ranks were occupied at the time and because our superhero clones were busy with other obligations, thankfully without anyone in Paris or even the entire world remembering who the superheroes really are."
Tom replies back before querying, "I see. Well, in any case, Marinette, if you don't mind me asking, what do you think would've happened in some kind of alternative timeline of today's events if you had been grounded and you took it the wrong way in the worse sense?"
Marinette closes her eyes to focus before opening them again, widened in shock.
Tikki then says, "Um, I think that may be a sign that we're better off not knowing if Marinette makes that expression."
On the TV, Alec states before asking while Marinette and Tikki leave the Dupain-Cheng apartment, "So, the challenge that the viewers have chosen for you is... to get the Mayor of Paris, Andre Bourgeois, to dance! Thank you for agreeing to play with us today, sir. What are Nino's chances today?"
On the screen in the studio, Mayor Bourgeois replies, "Zero. I despise dancing. The last time I set foot on a dance floor, Madonna was still in kindergarten."
With Marinette, she quietly cackled with hysterical laughter.
Tikki asks, "What's so funny, Marinette?"
Marinette replies, "Mayor Bourgeois was making a bit of a sarcastic remark with his current age and Madonna's educational years both being incorrect. See, Madonna was born in 1958, she attended kindergarten in approximately 1963, and Mayor Bourgeois was in high school in the late 1950s to the early 1960s, and he only became Mayor of Paris for his first terms back in 1997. So therefore, Mayor Anaximandre Bourgeois would be 70 years old by the time our war with Hawk Moth started, give or take a few years. And the logistics of his remark, that's what makes it funny! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!"
Tikki shakes her head, but she knows that even she couldn't argue with Marinette's logical pointers about Mayor Bourgeois' remark.
But then, Tikki questions, "Wait. Anaximandre?"
Marinette answers, "Yes. Anaximandre was Mayor Bourgeois' birth name. He changed his name to Andre as a sign of cowardly doormat love and devotion to Audrey Bourgeois."
Tikki doesn't question it, but deep down, she could tell that Marinette's inner Mikaela Haselwood hated both Andre and Audrey Bourgeois for the things that they respectively did in both this timeline and in countless other Miraculous Ladybug timelines.
In Marinette's bedroom, Fanette says to Ammyy, "Well, in any case, at least Marinette and the rest of us are in the clear of any potential punishments today and in the foreseeable future."
Ammyy replies, "Yes, Fanette. Although the original Tikki and I still think you guys should've kept our secrets secret from Marinette's parents."
Fanette replies sharply, "I get that you're worried about Marinette's parents potentially getting Akumatized many episodes early before we succeed or fail at permanently defeating Hawk Moth on Heroes' Day, but try to have a little faith, would you?"
Ammyy sags before replying, "We'll try, but no promises."
Fanette states gently, "That's all Marinette and I would ever ask of you guys."
Fanette lovingly strokes Ammyy's head like a cat, and Ammyy starts nuzzling Fanette's hand.
In Hawk Moth's lair, the window opens and Hawk Moth remarks before saying, "The Challenge... what an interesting concept. A TV show with such high potential for negative emotions. Oh, the destruction and mayhem we – my new victim and myself – could cause... Nooroo, Dark Wings Fall."
Hawk Moth transforms into Gabriel Agreste.
Nooroo asks, "Master, aren't you going to Akumatize someone?"
Gabriel replies sinisterly, "Why wait for someone to naturally make themselves vulnerable to my Akumas when one can make it happen?"
Nooroo replies back, "I don't get it."
Gabriel replies back as well, "I wouldn't expect you to understand just yet. Be patient and you'll see."
Gabriel goes back into his mansion via the elevator.
In Marinette's bedroom, Fanette says, "Trust me, Alya, when the original Marinette made that expression for the first time after focusing on mentally finding the alternative timelines of our multiverse that we specify after asking questions related to alternate timelines and parallel universes, we decided that we were better off not knowing."
Alya replies on the phone, "Sorry, but I kinda get Adrien's curiosity, Fanette. I mean, after all, even before Marinette became Ladybug, she always used her powers as discreetly as possible to get good grades, to do what needs to be done for other people, and generally winning the hearts of even spoiled brats in the city. Along with using her smarts to educate us about the likely possibilities in our sector of the multiverse if in the event it proved to be real, as I found out when you guys revealed your secrets to me 24 hours after I experienced being Akumatized for the first time and as the people of Paris found out when Ladybug revealed that all of the real life versions of comic book history's greatest superheroes in existence were clones. One would think that, and I almost suspect this too, she might've been an angel in disguise and a bit of a mad scientist put together."
Fanette points out, "What? No. Marinette isn't a mad scientist. If she was, she'd do a whole lot worse than attempting to resurrect the dinosaurs or attempting to bring the dragons of this universe's past back to life to spite Plagg or even attempting to prevent the Order of the Guardians from being dismantled by Master Fu using the Feast Sentimonster. And also, Marinette may be a good girl, but she's no angel as long as Mikaela Haselwood's spirit inhabits her body. Think about it; she's a bit foul-mouthed when in a bad mood, she hates babies, she hates dogs, she hates hamsters, she moderately wounds any rampaging angry dogs that try to take a bite out of her, she's serious about even her death threats, she uses her wishing power for many things that antiheroes like Rorschach and villains like Scarecrow would ever use it for in terms of dealing with her enemies or generally handling things about your universe that she hates to an extreme, and she generally half treats Tikki like dirt for saying things she doesn't like or for doing things she doesn't like such as tickling her feet while she's trying to sleep peacefully, and she half treats Tikki like a friend. So, if I follow your inference about Marinette being a, quote-unquote '"angel in disguise"' and if you follow my pointers about how Marinette is rotten in some ways because of the spirit of another girl from another universe inhabiting her body like the DC Comics ghost antihero known as Deadman inhabiting the bodies of villains to make them attack each other, it's safe to say that Marinette in general is what the first two Home Alone movies would call an Angel with a Filthy Soul."
Alya looks shocked before saying, "Well, whether she's an Angel with a Filthy Soul or not, that doesn't change the fact that she's our timeline's last hope against Hawk Moth, Mayura, Lila Rossi, Bob Roth, XY, Cash, Techno-Pirate, Tomoe Tsurugi, Jalil Kubdel, Ignoblia, and many other villains soon to come in the future."
Fanette replies back, "Well, you're right about that."
In the TVi studio, as Marinette and Adrien lock eyes, a film producer escorts Simon Grimault next to Adrien and Marinette, and he says to Simon, "Just wait right here, if you please."
Simon replies, "Thank you."
The producer leaves.
Placide notices Simon, Simon notices Marinette and Adrien, and the twosome notice Simon next to them.
Marinette then whispers something into Placide's ear while using sign language and he grunts an affirmative.
Adrien and Simon shake hands briefly, and Simon shakes hands with Placide briefly.
Meanwhile, Nino continues playing with the DJ board and Mayor Bourgeois moves his head to the beat with a small smile on his face.
Alec notices and he remarks, "Victory! Challenge conquered by Nino. You moved your head to the beat of the music, Mayor Bourgeois, and that counts as dancing!"
Mayor Bourgeois exclaims before he tries to lie, "What?! No, that's not true! My neck was... itching, that's all."
Marinette sings along with Adrien slightly softly, "(Softly) #Liar, liar, pants on fire, hanging from a telephone wire.#" "(Softly) #Liar, liar, pants on fire, hanging from a telephone wire.#"
Alec replies before saying, "Relieving an itch to the beat counts as dancing, too, Mayor Bourgeois! Congratulations, Nino. You'll be coming back in 1 week to meet your next challenge! (Nino walks off the stage.) And now, for our next contestant, please welcome Simon Grimault!"
Simon walks up to the stage and Adrien says softly, "(Softly) That was awesome, dude!"
The twosome bumps fists.
Nino remarks, "Whoa-ho! Nettie. I didn't think you'd make it."
Marinette replies, "You got my perfect attendance record to thank for that."
Nino hugs Marinette, and she hugs him back.
Alec then says as he stands alongside Simon, "So, Mr. Grimault, from what our sources tell us, you're a hypnotist, right? You use cards to hypnotize people to get what you want from them, right?"
Simon replies, "Yes, I'm a card hypnotist. But, um, I don't really use my skills to get anything from anyone."
Alec replies, "Well, either way, Simon, your challenge today is to use your talents to bring a very elusive celebrity to this very TV studio! Give it up for the king of fashion himself, Gabriel Agreste!"
Gabriel pops up on the screen and swivels around in his computer chair to face the computer screen transmitting from his computer terminal to the TVi studio.
Gabriel demands coldly, "What is this show? I was told that this was an interview."
Nino whispers, "(Softly) Dude, your dad!"
Adrien nods with a scowl shared by Marinette.
Alec remarks, "Do your thing, Grimault, let's see if you can bring Mr. Agreste here with your hypnotic persuasion!"
Simon starts to explain, "I told you, I don't make people – "
But Alec interrupts before asking Gabriel, "Ha! A shy hypnotist! Imagine that! How funny is that, Mr. Agreste?"
Gabriel replies emotionlessly, "Hilarious. Hardy har har. I'm not laughing. Your show is pathetic. And so is your contestant, for that matter. Control me? Not gonna happen."
He ends the transmission with the press of a button on one of his many remote controls.
Alec ask, "Huh?"
Adrien remarks coldly, much to Placide's surprise and Nino's surprise, "That's my pathetic, neglectful, possessive, and downright emotionally abusive excuse of a father in a nutshell."
Alec remarks insensitively, "Looks like Mr. Agreste has turned down your challenge. Game over!"
Before Simon can say anything in protest, Marinette angrily marches towards Alec and knees him hard in the junk, making him shriek in pain, much to everyone's surprise, including Adrien and including Hawk Moth watching from his tablet.
Marinette coldly says, "Alec Cataldi, I had anticipated that you wouldn't listen to Ladybug's lecture about being insensitive to the point of causing Akumatizations precisely just before Simon Grimault became Simon Says, so, I took this matter to your boss, and they are requesting to speak with you on that screen on the air right now."
Marinette taps a button on her phone connected to the studio servers, and Alec's boss, Arlette Godeau, shows up on the big screen.
Alec stammers, "A-a-a-Arlette?! I-I-uh – "
Arlette states crisply, "You're fired!"
Everyone gasps in shock.
Alec slumps before bellowing as he charges at Marinette, but then, Screechclaw jumps down and scratches Alec's face, leaving bloody cuts on his face as the security guards take him outside while Arlette calls the police.
She turns to Adrien and Nino before saying to them, "Our business here is over, boys."
Marinette struts down to the doors and Adrien replies slightly scaredly while walking after her, "Yes, ma'am."
Nino looks at Alec looking at him before shaking his head in disapproval and saying, "You brought this on yourself, dude. Your actions have consequences, and it's long overdue for you to pay for them."
Nino walks after his friends.
Noticing the camera still rolling, Alec questions, "Will somebody get me some ice?"
The cameraman replies, "No. You do it yourself, because I just received a communique from our boss, and he says that you better shape up or else you won't get a job elsewhere."
Alec groans in pain as he gets up and looks for a pack of ice.
Outside the studio, the three friends walk past Simon but they stop as he says sadly, "Kids. Thanks for sticking up for me."
Looking back, Marinette replies, "Happy to oblige, Simon."
The trio continue walking to the elevator.
Simon sighs as he brings his right hand holding his cards down onto his side hard but gently so as to not hurt himself, dropping the cards in the process.
In Hawk Moth's lair, Hawk Moth remarks, "Yes... humiliation and anger... those are the perfect combination of elements needed for transforming a loser into a winner. And even though Marinette Dupain-Cheng would've been my greatest masterpiece at some point in the future, I'd rather not risk it; the last time I made her mad just because she was trying to prove a point, I learned my lesson the hard way, and I'd rather not risk getting kicked real hard in my b**** again."
Pushing the matter aside, Hawk Moth creates an Akuma and says, "Fly away, my little Akuma, and evilize him!"
The Akuma flies to the studio.
Back in the studio, Simon is in the process of picking up his fallen cards when the Akuma infects the last one he's picking up.
Simon looks up as Hawk Moth says, "I am Hawk Moth. You are now Simon Says. I will help you in becoming the most powerful hypnotist in the world. But you must help me in return when the time is right. So, do we have an agreement, Simon Says?"
Simon replies darkly, "Simon says yes!"
Simon turns into Simon Says.
Simon Says opens the doors to the studio like a cowboy opens the doors of a pub if the doors were house doors and he remarks, "Simon says the show is not over!"
Alec exclaims, "What on Earth?!"
Simon Says pulls out a card and states, "Silence! Simon says you're lame! As lame as a duck!"
Simon Says throws the duck card at Alec, and he starts acting like a duck.
With Ladybug, she's watching the footage, and she couldn't help but cackle hysterically, finding the whole thing to be extremely hysterical.
Screechclaw states, "Ladybug, honey, as funny as it looks, we gotta do something!"
Ladybug nods.
In the studio, Placide charges towards Simon Says, but then he pulls out a pause card as he says, "Simon says stop!"
Simon Says throws the pause card at Placide, and he freezes.
Simon Says continues, "Simon says you are a gorilla!"
Simon Says throws a gorilla card at Placide, and he starts acting like an actual gorilla.
With Ladybug, she states to her team, "Okay, so, Simon Says gets his power and everything he wants from hypnotizing people with his cards and at the same time, he can render anything useless or more useful with the same cards, including any kind of weapons of Earthly, supernatural, or generally magical origin. Whatever you do, don't get hit by any of the cards. Particularly including any cards that can render your powers and your weapons useless. If your weapons become useless, you're defenseless. And if your powers are taken away, there's a 93.38% chance that your Miraculous forms will end up canceled out. And definitely avoid the black cards of death."
Everyone nods.
In the studio, Simon Says remarks, "Gabriel Agreste turned down my challenge, and he will pay for it! By midnight tonight, he's going to entertain us in this very TV studio. Gabriel, I'm coming for you! And by the time I'm done with you, you're gonna wish you never humiliated me!"
In Hawk Moth's lair, Hawk Moth remarks before saying without activating his telepathy connection with Simon Says, "It's risky, but it's given me an idea. Good luck, Simon Says."
In the studio, Ladybug turns out the lights and Simon Says shrieks, "Blah! Who turned out the lights?!"
Ladybug does her best impression of an evil alien laughing maniacally.
Simon Says shrieks again, "Ah! Is that an alien?!"
Cat Noir then says as he pounces on Simon Says and forces him to the floor while dropping his deck of cards, "Cat Noir says zip it and give us those cards!"
Simon Says then states, "Simon says get off of me!"
He puts the card on Cat Noir, and he gets off.
Ladybug whispers, "(Softly) S(bleep!) I should've known he'd have a backup plan!"
Cat Noir then snaps out of it just as the emergency power for the lights turns on.
Simon Says then pulls out two cards and says to both Alec and Placide, "Simon says knock them out!"
He throws boxing glove cards at them, and while Placide's giant fists knock some heroes out of the studio, Alec tries to take on the rest against all odds.
Cat Noir then says to Placide, "These cats may not always land on their feet, but we always bounce back!"
Placide tries to punch Cat Noir, but he jumps out of the way and flips a couple of times before landing, the attack vaulting over making Placide punch a hole in the wall.
Cat Noir gets in a martial arts stance as he and Placide stand ready to fight.
Simon Says remarks as he examines his cards, "I could use an army of superior numbers."
Outside of the studio, a group of 1,200 people are waiting for the elevators in turns, but Simon Says comes out of the one behind them.
Simon Says then states, "Simon says you are all soldiers!"
The people try to run away, but Simon Says throws hundreds of soldier cards at them, knocking them to the ground as they get hit.
As they get up like zombie soldiers but without anything else related to zombies, Simon Says continues, "Simon says search all over Paris, my army, and find Gabriel Agreste!"
Purple Streak says to Réjean Samson, "Are you ready, Samson Says?"
Réjean/Samson Says replies, "Samson says yes, I'm ready!"
Réjean becomes Samson Says, a combination of Simon Says and Doctor Leonard Samson after his gamma radiation transformation.
With Cat Noir, he tries to smack Placide with his staff, but the muscle-bound bodyguard grabs the staff and launches Cat Noir in the air before throwing the staff to the elevators.
Cat Noir then says darkly, "All right then. Time to fight dirty."
Cat Noir runs towards Placide, and just as Placide is about to either punch or grab Cat Noir, at the last second, the holder of the Black Cat Miraculous slides underneath his bodyguard's legs, grabs him from his back and the back of his head, and throws him with all of his might into the nearest open elevator.
Cat Noir then calls out, "Cataclysm!" and he uses his Cataclysm superpower on the elevator's access buttons, making the elevator malfunction.
The elevator falls, and Placide shrieks as the elevator falls.
Cat Noir remarks, "I hope he doesn't remember this or get injured by the fall when this is over."
Cat Noir's hearing picks up on multiple animal-themed superhumans moving on all fours and running sideways without messing up like cats, dogs, and crabs, as well as the flapping, fluttering, and buzzing of bird, bat, and insect wings, the whirring sounds associated with the jet engines in the boots of an Iron Man style battle suit, and the thuds associated with the frog-themed Miraculous users leap running. Along with the running on foot of Samson Says, even though Cat Noir didn't know about him.
Cat Noir turns around and uses his telekinesis brought on by his father as Hawk Moth to summon his staff back to his hand as he sees the rest of his team converging on his position.
Cat Noir finally notices Samson Says and questions, "Who's this?"
Samson Says replies, "I am Samson Says. You could use my liberation power if we're going to free anyone from Simon Says' control."
Cat Noir replies back, "Oh. Okay."
Thankful that it's gonna take Nino two minutes before he gets back to look for Adrien but also wanting to maintain caution because of Samson Says, Cat Noir remarks before saying, "Nice to see you guys. We gotta head to the Agreste mansion; Simon Says is after Gabriel Agreste, and even if he doesn't find out about who happens to be the person behind the Hawk Moth identity, Simon Says is still gonna kill him. And even worse, Nino Lahiffe's gonna start asking questions about where Adrien Agreste is, and he's just as stubborn as Ladybug, Alya Cesaire, and I really are."
Ladybug replies while whispering into Cat Noir's cat ears, "(Softly) Don't worry. I have a plan to preserve your identity, to keep Nino from getting suspicious, and to ensure that we catch another piece of evidence about your father's goals today. But it's gonna take a combination of deception, elusiveness, subterfuge, and cunning. It's time we put your new clone to work on leading Nino, Nathalie, and your father astray."
Cat Noir nods.
After rendezvousing with Nino and "Adrien," the 1,044 Miraculous users plus "2" civilians and 1 Tenshized superhero champion head off to the Agreste mansion.
In the foyer, Adrien's clone asks, "Nathalie, where's Dad? He's in danger!"
Nathalie replies, "Don't worry; he knows already and he has a plan."
Everyone else notices Gabriel standing at the top of the dual staircases.
Gabriel remarks before asking, "Good evening, French Miraculous Superhero Tea,. But wait, who is this?"
Purple Streak answers, "My latest Tenshized champion. But I ain't gonna say who it is; I want it to be a surprise for Simon Says.
Gabriel nods in understanding and he walks down the stairs as Adrien's clone says, "Dad, you gotta get to safety. The hypnotist Simon Says is coming after you!"
Gabriel retorts, "What? And be dictated by a madman? Absolutely not."
Adrien's clone replies, "So be it."
Adrien's clone heads up to his room, with Gabriel looking back with a slightly confused expression over why his "son" wasn't protesting any further.
Nino follows and Nathalie follows as well, clearly anticipating Gabriel's orders.
Gabriel says to Ladybug and Cat Noir in particular, "I have to apologize for my son, you two. He's similar to his mother. Way too overly dramatic most of the time."
Cat Noir scoffs, "Yeah, I don't think he's acting dramatic this time. Simon Says is an actual threat. If he ever gets the opportunity, he could easily kill you. And besides, there's no telling how much Ladybug's Miraculous cure can fix or if there's anything in an Akuma attack that can't be fixed."
Gabriel replies while putting his right hand on Cat Noir's shoulder plate, "What could possibly happen with all of you here to protect me?"
Nino asks Adrien's clone, "You positive your old man's not a robot or something?"
Adrien's clone replies, "There's many things about my father that he keeps to himself, and it'd take a miracle for him to realize what he still has before it's too late."
They enter Adrien's room.
Nino remarks, "Hohoho! Dude! I've seen football stadiums smaller than your room!"
Adrien's clone replies, "Make yourself at home, but don't get too comfortable; who knows if we have to get moving before Simon Says' army finds us?"
Nino replies back, "Ooh, yeah, good point."
In Gabriel's atelier, Ladybug and Cat Noir are looking at some pictures of Adrien modeling while Screechclaw, Milo Tigger, Ozzy Bubba, Roadkill, and Beck Dollarbird are standing guard.
Gabriel asks, "Isn't he flawless?"
Ladybug answers, "No. No human being is flawless. No human being is perfect. We're all prone to errors and mistakes of different kinds. Even children like Adrien are prone to making mistakes before they can become smarter."
Gabriel's eyes briefly narrowed before they returned to normal.
Gabriel then says before asking, "I've never noticed your earrings before. They truly are one of a kind. May I?"
Ladybug nods, and Gabriel removes Ladybug's Miraculous... or so he thinks.
Gabriel doesn't notice as Ladybug's actual Miraculous temporarily decloaks while he looks at the fake earrings.
When Gabriel looks back and the Ladybug Miraculous cloaks itself again, Gabriel mentally asks, "Hmm, that's strange. Usually, whenever a Miraculous is removed, the user detransforms. What could this mean?"
Gabriel hands the "earrings" back and Ladybug puts them back on as Gabriel says, "They truly are remarkable. Hard to believe that magic jewelry such as your earrings can easily provide great powers to use for good."
Ladybug mentally scoffs, "Yeah, right, like I'm gonna buy that crap."
Out loud, Ladybug replies, "Well, yes, the Ladybug Miraculous truly is one of a kind, and if it were to be destroyed by anyone such as one of Hawk Moth's victims created from extremely strong negative emotions resulting in that champion going on to become uncontrollable, we'd all be dead in an instant."
Gabriel replies back, "Hmmm... I see."
Suddenly, Ladybug's yoyo rings.
Ladybug sees that it's Mongrel Terrier calling her.
Ladybug picks up and asks, "Mongrel, what's going on?"
Mongrel answers from the rooftop of the mansion, "Simon Says' army is here. They're approaching every second."
Mongrel and the others reenter the mansion.
Cat Noir sees the army at the gates, and he exclaims, "Close off all the exits! They're coming from the front! Engage the self-defense system, we need total lockdown!"
Gabriel frowns as he activates the lockdown defense system.
After scanning his handprint, the computer says, "Lockdown engaged." And the mansion's security system activates, complete with reinforced metal bulletproof shutters for the windows, electrifying the gate, taser gun sentries, lethal gun sentries, and non-lethal round gun sentries on the outer perimeter, and locked down doors.
Gabriel asks, "How do you know so much about the system?"
Cat Noir answers without stuttering, "Well, I heard on news reports in the past that you spent a sizable amount of money to afford this system for protecting yourself, your family, and any employees that live here. That, plus some people are spreading rumors about you being as paranoid as Nick Fury from Marvel Comics."
Gabriel replies, "I see. Well, those rumors are only partially exaggerated because I don't go too extreme for my son's safety or my safety and my employees' safety. And as for Simon Says' army, they won't be getting in. This house is built like a military fortress."
Gabriel activates the perimeter cameras.
Suddenly, Simon Says appears and he orders, "Simon says destroy!"
He throws bull cards at the people in front of the gate, but they get electrocuted into unconsciousness by the gates, and the ones who weren't electrocuted were either tased by the taser guns or shot at by the non-lethal guns. Or at the least, shot at in non-lethal spots by the actual gun sentries.
Simon Says growls before saying, "Simon says no more electric gates!"
He throws a no electricity card at the gate, deactivating it.
Simon Says then says, "Simon says no more gun sentries!"
Simon Says throws no guns cards at the gun sentries, destroying them in small explosions.
Simon Says then says to other people in his army, "Simon says destroy!"
He throws more bull cards and the new victims manage to knock down the powerless gates.
In Gabriel's atelier, the red alert lights are blinking while the alarm blares.
But then, the emergency power turns on and the computer announces, "Emergency power on."
The security cameras show the hypnotized army charging towards the doors.
Cat Noir states, "There are too many of them. Your self-defense system is failing!"
Screechclaw remarks, "A shame that Simon Says' deck of cards can counter almost any kind of modern, futuristic, or magical weapon."
Gabriel questions, "What do you mean by that?"
Ozzy Bubba answers, "Due to the nature of Simon Says' cards, he can easily counter and render useless all manner of magical, modern, and futuristic weapons, including the likelihood of Simon Says making Hawk Moth's cane swordstick as brittle as the bones of a human born with Type 1 Osteogenesis Imperfecta."
Gabriel frowns in realization, realizing that if Simon Says found out who he was and turned on him, if Simon Says does indeed use his weapon-neutralizing cards, his swordstick would break and be rendered useless.
Ladybug then says, "Adrien and Nino! I better go get them!"
Gabriel presses a button to reveal two emergency remote controls and says, "Here, Nathalie, take the controls in case you need to unlock an exit. She's coming with you."
Ladybug and Nathalie leave the atelier.
Cat Noir states, "I'll reinforce the outer defenses. Go hide in the atrium. It's not safe in here."
Gabriel replies, "No one tells me what to do. Not even a superhero."
Cat Noir replies, "Yeah, well, try telling that to your company's board of directors. Anyway, you're in danger because you caused Simon Says to get Akumatized in the first place, and you deserve a terrible punishment for the things you did just because of extenuating circumstances! (He takes the other remote) So, stop pretending you're above everyone in the city and do as you're told!"
Gabriel is shocked at that, but Cat Noir remains firm.
Gabriel suddenly smirks as he remarks, "Quite a temper. You remind me of someone."
Cat Noir snorts like a dragon, making Gabriel flinch a bit.
Cat Noir exits the room via the window, and Gabriel looks longingly at his portrait of his wife Emilie.
Gabriel then presses the button sequence needed to access the elevator and he goes into Hawk Moth's lair.
Gabriel quickly whispers, "(Softly) Nooroo, Dark Wings Rise!"
Gabriel transforms into Hawk Moth.
Outside the mansion, the hypnotized people are banging and pushing on the doors while a lot of others are scaling the building.
Simon Says cackles.
In Hawk Moth's lair, Hawk Moth walks forward to the center of his observatory as he activates his telepathic connection and says, "I don't think that's a good idea, Simon Says."
Simon Says replies, "Gabriel is here!"
Hawk Moth replies back, "Yes, but don't forget our deal. I feel the French Miraculous Superhero Team are nearby."
Simon Says asks, "They're nearby?"
Hawk Moth answers before saying as he also takes the time to warn his champion about Samson Says, "Yes, they are. Now, here's the deal: once you've got them in front of you, you'll be able to honor our agreement. Oh, and they have a new Tenshized champion that looks like you combined with the Marvel Comics superhero Doctor Leonard Samson, so be cautious of what powers he has."
Simon Says replies, "It's as good as done, and thank you for the 411 on this new Tenshi-tachi superhero. Simon says we'll defeat them for good!"
In Hawk Moth's lair, Hawk Moth bemoans before saying, "Well, that didn't work 100%. Nooroo, Dark Wings Fall."
Hawk Moth transforms back into Gabriel and heads back into his atelier.
In the Agreste mansion, Ladybug and Cat Noir enter Adrien's room.
Adrien's clone inquires, "Ladybug, Nathalie, what's going on?"
Ladybug replies, "We have to move to safer ground."
Nino replies back, "I'm right behind you guys!"
Nathalie, Ladybug, Nino, and Adrien's clone leave to Gabriel's atelier.
Ladybug then says, "Milo Tigger, Roadbuster, Topspin, Leadfoot, take Nino and Adrien to the Dupain-Cheng bakery. It's the only safe place I can think of at this time, and Simon Says won't think to look for them there. Once you're done, rendezvous with us posthaste."
Milo Tigger replies, "Yes, Ladybug."
Milo Tigger and three members of the new Wreckers take Nino and Adrien's clone to the garage via the secret passages and secret exits.
Ladybug then says, "Everyone, keep the hypnotized army on the outside of the mansion at bay!"
Everyone replies their affirmatives and they leave for their assignments.
After a few minutes, in Gabriel's atelier, the hypnotized army destroys the security cameras.
Gabriel asks Nathalie, "Are they coming?"
Nathalie puts her left ear to the door to listen, but suddenly, the door pushes forward slightly.
Nathalie grunts as she tries to keep the doors closed, but the hypnotized army breaks the doors down, knocking Nathalie to the floor.
Nathalie crawls behind the inside of her desk quietly as Simon Says' army pours in and seizes Gabriel.
Gabriel struggles and snarls as he tries to break free, but without his Miraculous enhancements just because his identity and future are at stake, it's no use.
Simon Says struts into the atelier and remarks, "Gotcha."
Gabriel snarls with a scowl.
A few minutes of fighting hypnotized civilians later, Ladybug and Cat Noir appear in Gabriel's atelier, only to see knocked-over paintings and the overall computer terminal.
Thankful that Nathalie had left and thankful that the security camera in the atelier was deactivated, Ladybug remarks, "All according to plan."
Meanwhile, in the TVi Studio, Simon Says remarks, "Good evening again from Simon Says, and welcome to another exciting hour of The Challenge! I've kept my promise, viewers. Here's Gabriel!"
Gabriel briefly sneers at the camera filming the whole thing, with Placide holding him by the shoulders.
Simon Says then picks out a card and says, "Simon says you are a butterfly!"
The butterfly card disintegrates on Gabriel, and after Placide releases his grip, Gabriel starts flapping his arms and jumping around while saying, "Flap flap, flutter flutter, flutter flutter, flap flap!"
Outside the studio, Ladybug cackles, "Hahahahahahahahaha! Now that's what I call entertainment!"
Ozzy Bubba replies, "This is no time to be enjoying something like this, hilarious as it seems."
Ladybug replies, "True enough. Anyway, we've gotta save him. I need a squad dealing with Simon Says while another deals with his army."
Simon Says then states, "Tomorrow, Butterfly, you will be no more."
Milo Tigger states, "The Akuma's gotta be in one of those cards."
Cat Noir replies, "But which one? There's so many of them."
Ladybug replies, "The deck holder is where the Akuma is."
Milo Tigger and Cat Noir reply in unison, "Ohhh." "Ohhh."
The heroes burst into the studio.
Simon Says remarks, "French Miraculous Superhero Team, you can save him by giving me your Miraculouses. Do the right thing..."
Ladybug replies, "No way in Hell! Lucky Charm!"
Another ladybug-patterned yoyo appears.
Cat Noir asks, "A regular yoyo? But you already have a magical one."
Ladybug replies as she fastens the second yoyo to her armored waist, "I already figured it out."
Ladybug charges on foot.
Simon Says then says, "Simon says your yoyo is useless!"
Simon Says throws a card of Ladybug's yoyo crossed out in a red X, but Ladybug jumps over the card in flight as well as the others dodging the card.
Simon Says gawks as he exclaims, "You can fly?!"
While everyone else was busy dealing with Simon Says' army, especially including Samson Says using his own cards to liberate Simon Says' victims, Ladybug lassoes Simon Says, takes his card deck, and breaks it.
But then, she purifies the Akuma and tosses her first in this timeline Lucky Charm object in the air while shouting, "Miraculous Ladybug!"
The Miraculous Ladybug goes all over the city, returning Simon Says' victims back to normal and repairing the damages wrought by Simon Says' army and cards.
Simon Says transforms back into Simon Grimault.
The heroes fist-bump.
They see Gabriel looking at them and they approach him.
Gabriel states, "Thank you all for saving my life."
Beck Dollarbird replies, "You are most welcome, sir."
Suddenly, Gabriel's phone rings and he answers, "Yes?"
Nathalie says, "Mr. Agreste, I just saw the broadcast! Thank God you're okay!"
Gabriel replies, "Yes, I definitely have to say, despite the fact that my family wasn't exactly religious, I have God to thank for allowing fate to have our city's protectors be given their Miraculouses and for being able to save us all from that madman Hawk Moth."
Nathalie then states, "Anyway, Adrien said he was afraid of losing you. He's hoping that he can receive word from you or see for himself at best that you're alive."
Gabriel replies again, "Tell him I'm on my way home."
Nathalie replies back, "I'm on it, sir."
Gabriel hangs up.
Gabriel then says, "Ladybug, I thank you and your team for your contributions to our fine city. When Hawk Moth is defeated, I'll be sure to give my own token of gratitude alongside others in Paris."
Ladybug nods and says, "That's greatly appreciated. Heroes, vanish!"
Ladybug deploys a smoke grenade and Gabriel coughs as he covers his eyes, glasses, and mouth.
When the smoke clears, the heroes are gone.
Gabriel narrows his eyes as he says, "Hmmm..."
In Adrien's bedroom, Adrien finishes hiding the Black Cat Miraculous in its invisibility mode.
Gabriel opens the door.
Gabriel comes up to Adrien and hugs him.
Adrien looks shocked before he hugs his father back.
Gabriel states, "No matter what happens, Adrien, know that I'll try my hardest to be there for you."
Adrien nods with a small smile.
Gabriel then says, "Start getting ready for dinner. I'm attending this time."
Gabriel leaves Adrien's room.
Plagg comes out of Adrien's shirt as the Black Cat Miraculous decloaks in camouflage mode.
Plagg asks, "Is it just me, or did Marinette's plan to avert him suspecting your identity just work for the most part?"
Adrien replies, "To be honest, I was thinking about the same thing."
In the Dupain-Cheng bakery, Sabine asks, "Did you get what you needed, sweetie?"
Marinette nods before doing all she does to file away the intel gathered about Gabriel actually sending an Akuma after himself in order to trap the heroes and snag their Miraculouses.
One week later, in the TVi studio, The Challenge is on the air again.
Alec's replacement by the name of Diesel d'Ailleboust states, "Welcome back once again to everyone's #1 game show, The Challenge! Last week, our awesome DJ friend Nino Lahiffe won the challenge. So, let's welcome him back again. Come on out, DJ Nino!"
Adrien lightly punches Nino's shoulder again.
Nino enters the stage.
Nino waves to the audience.
In a scenery transition to the Dupain-Cheng living room, Tom says before querying, "Well, once again, thanks to switcheroo's with your clones, you weren't absent or late for school all week! But are you ready for the dance-off?"
Marinette replies, "Dad, my years taking dancing lessons from both of you and from my past teachers could easily make this a tie if Adrien's dancing lessons are on par with mine."
On the TV, Diesel says, "Okay, so, here's the gist, Nino. We upped the challenge for you tonight. You're gonna have to get two celebrities to dance instead of just one! However, this time, you're the one who can choose your opponents."
Nino replies, "Oh-ho-ho, I've got this one in the bag, Diesel. I'm picking two pals I know who won't disappoint me or any one of you: Ladybug and Cat Noir!"
Marinette remarks, "Wow. Right on schedule. Tikki, Spots On!"
Marinette transforms into Ladybug and rushes to her bedroom.
Tom states to Sabine, "Sometimes, I just can't figure out our daughter's foreknowledge, even though she's possessed by the spirit of a dead girl from another universe where our world is metafictional and she now wants to change everything about the status quo of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir's 12 seasons and 340 episodes, but that she acts somewhat like Rorschach in terms of being violent and acts somewhat like Red Hood in terms of being a potty mouth specifically in a bad mood. I guess Fanette was right; our little girl is what the Home Alone films would call an Angel with a Filthy Soul."
Sabine replies, "Well, that may be so, honey, but Marinette is starting to do great things for our city and for perhaps the world."
Ladybug rushes to her balcony and she takes flight to the TVi studio for the dance-off.
The End.
(Bonus scene: Gabriel Agreste finds out the extent of the aftermath of him being hypnotized into thinking that he was a butterfly and then an airplane. Third person POV...)
Gabriel looks on the internet on his computer terminal to see the news and he sees a headline that says, "Flapriel Fluttergreste Takes Off!"
Gabriel clicks on it and his jaw drops in horror as he sees not only recorded footage of him acting like a butterfly and then an airplane, but he also sees a few memes centered around him being ridiculous under Simon Says' control.
Gabriel roars in rage as he breaks his spare coffee mug by throwing it down on the floor at a position where the shards of glass wouldn't fly everywhere or embed themselves in anyone's skin or clothes.
From her desk, Nathalie is struggling to keep a straight face, not that Gabriel would notice unless he was paying attention to Nathalie's face.
Gabriel yells, "Nathalie! How did this happen?!"
Nathalie replies before breaking out in hysterical laughter, "I don't know, sir. But if Hawk Moth ever did this again, it'd be twice as funny! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Gabriel groans as he goes for the medicine cabinet in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, in his room, watching from his security phone's secret, untraceable, low-tech security access to the security system of the mansion which includes the camera in Gabriel's atelier, Adrien is cackling like Dr. Evil, with Plagg cackling alongside him while doing a somewhat decent impression of Chucky the Killer Doll.
Adrien remarks, "Ahh, he never knew what hit him."
Adrien turns off his security access phone provided by Marinette before concealing it in his dimensional storage pocket Marinette helped him create that can also summon any objects he wants via voice command and via his thoughts.
Adrien then says, "All right, let's make sure not to make any butterfly puns while Dad is within earshot or anywhere he can hear it from Nathalie or from footage in the security cameras."
Plagg replies, "Agreed."
(Author's notes: See you all in chapter 43: Ladybug as seen by Adrien.)
