An Au of Au? Why not! If you've not read MMM- fear not! all you need to know is that everything is exactly the same as It is in the show. Only, creepy. Cackles is still a witching magical school, just every one bar Mildred and her family is some form of B movie/Adams family creature. And that in this universe 'Common people' refures to un-monstrous; just like none-witch and non-magical magic. Because there is no normal as such they're just the most common denominatour.

Technically not part of the MMM time line as that follows the TV show, but I wanted a silly spooky story for Halloween… And then never finished it on time…but hey MMM is like six YEARS old ! Happy birthday you little son of witch!

Borrowed a couple of lines from "A Mean Halloween" and WW'17 season 2 Finale. Set in their second year- ish but not 100% concrete. Slight Spoilers for Misadventures, but ohwell.

"Are you sure you want to live like common people,

You want to see whatever common people see?"

"So Halloween is like a real holiday and celebration for witches?" Mildred asked, still confused.

"It always has been a real celebration. It's the humans who changed it." Enid pointed out. "It's witchy. But its extra special for some Monsters."

"It's a time when really old magic is very strong." Maud explained. "The middle of autumn is just as strong for us as the start of spring is at solstice in some respects."

"Plus, all the kids in costumes!" Ruby grinned.

Jadu agreed. "It's nice to go out in the city and see all the cheesy spooky thing? And not have to disguise myself as much. I can wear just witchy clothes, and no one notices."

"Yeah, rub it in!" Izzy the seven-foot mountain troll from the A set scowled. "Some of us are stuck in the Lake district for Hallow's eve. Every year, sat on the hillside. It's SOOO boring."

Harriet the mermaid had a similar complaint. Only somewhere wetter. If that was possible.

"You see all the human places all decorated in decorations and lights." She sighed, (with Bryony translating) "And then home is just all the usual seaweed and Halloween things? Boring!"

"I don't know why anyone would preferer a common non witch decorations." Ethel disagreed loudly, holding her little fairy court on the other side of the room. "Rather cheapens the entire break don't you think?"

It was supposed to be form lesson. However, being second years Mildred's group now had Professor Gimlet (or 'The Grim') in daylight lessons; rather than Miss Hardbroom ('HB'. Or "The Vamp." )

So things were always a little more relaxed. The professor wasn't currently visible. Nor had anyone had heard from her. And probably wouldn't, unless someone made to leave the room without permission. One simply showed up to registration and got on with things like homework or hobbies. The professor even let them talk! providing it didn't get too loud or silly.

Never mind a world, it was almost a whole universe away from first year form with Miss Hardbroom! Once again Mildred spared a (undeserved) thought for Sybil and Clarice the new first years. HB was now their problem at registration. Or they were hers? That might be more accurate.

But with only a week or so till half term and Halloween that was the topic of almost every conversation. Even if the hoiday was only a week. Not evern that really, more a five-day weekend.

"Anyway, what are you going to do over the holidays Mildred Hubble?" Ethel asked. "Watching gory serotypes on the tellyvision and then go knocking on doors begging for sweets in a binbag?"

Mildred didn't rise to it, although Jadu and Maud's hackles both did.

"I might." She shrugged. "or I might even go to the community boogie-bash, and then go trick or treating."

"the- what?" Ethel started to insult her again. But didn't understand what Mildred had just said enough to do so.

So did the others.

"A boogie bash?" Maud frowned. "like boogiemen?"

"I didn't think non magical humans could see us?" Bethany said, nervously. "like bash, as in fight? You fight Boogies?"

"oh no, it's like a big charity family friendly event at the community centre. Sorry Beth!" Mildred explained. "Nearest Saturday to the thirty-first, every year, the groups club together and put it on. The Mayor opens it. They get a DJ and a band. Prizes games. There's a buffet. Face painting apple bobbing. And a disco at the end."

"A disco?" Ruby said. "oh cool!"

"That sound really fun."

"I'm jealous."

"I don't know. It's a bit baby-ish." Mildred frowned. "And they'll be lots of people from my old school there…"

But as much as she downplayed it, suddenly her friends were all ears. With exception to Amii who was mostly eyes. Ethel sulked, her little remark just making Mildred the centre of attention rather than a humiliation she'd tried for. But she was clearly ear wigging on matters too, her curiosity piqued.

Mildred often forgot the other's love the 'ordinary' stuff Mildred's family did. most girls were from old witching families. or lived away from common folk. or both. so didn't have the same life experiences. Some didn't even have electricity at home (which made settling it at cackles easier!). Just as she was often enchanted by the most mundane of magical things or monster lore? Millie's monster and magical friends were sometimes in awe of things like campervans, sitting in branded fast-food places, and ballpoint pens.
