It's june 1945. Even though many months have passed, Liesel still haven't moved on. After all, she has lost everything in her life, her parents, her brother, her foster parents and her best friend, Rudy. About a month ago, Max returned into her life. That made Liesel the happiest she has been since losing everything. However, this happiness still wasn't the kind of happiness she was used to. There was only one thing that could make her truly happy - Rudy. One day, Liesel was at mayor's house (after bombing of Himmel Street, mayor and his wife adopted Liesel, she was basically their daughter now) when all of the sudden the doorbell rang. They weren't used to it so the whole family froze. She was in her room when she heard mayor open the door. Liesel was curious who was at their door, so went out of her room and started listening the conversation. Suddenly, she heard a very familiar voice. „Guten tag, I am looking for a girl named Liesel Meminger, do you know her?" said the voice. Upon hearing that, Liesel decided to go see who that was. When she looked at the door, she dropped her book she was reading earlier. The lemon hair, blue eyes. He was there. Rudy was standing in front of her. She ran to him and hugged him. „Rudy, I-I thought...how...how is this possible," said Liesel. „I have to tell you something," started Rudy. But before he could say anything else, Liesel stopped him: „Shhh, don't say anything," started Liesel. They were both quiet for a few seconds until Liesel did something unexpected - she kissed her best friend Rudy Steiner on his lips. He tasted like salt, probably because of their tears that got on their lips. Rudy has always wanted to kiss her but Liesel never thought of kissing that dirty boy from Steiner's family. It was when he "died" that she realized she loved him and wanted to kiss him. They were kissing for around 15 seconds. They just couldn't stop. When they finally did stop, Liesel told him: „I love you, Saukerl". „I love you too, Saumensch."

„How are you even alive?" asked Liesel. Rudy took Liesel's hands and told her how he survived. It turned out after the bombing, Rudy was taken in hospital where he stayed until last week. All the time he was there, he was only thinking about Liesel. About her blonde hair and blue eyes. About her sweet voice and pretty face. They kissed once again. Then Liesel introduced Rudy to mayor and his wife and the next day was Rudy introduced to Max.

In 1951, Rudy, Liesel, Rudy's father and Max moved to Australia where Liesel became teacher and writer. Rudy went on to have 2 kids with Liesel and they were happily married until their death.
