TW: Anxiety
Sarah was frozen in fear at the top steps of the synagogue as were Pharisees and worshipers, but they're beloved wasn't so close to a Roman. She hadn't been feeling right that morning as it was. Her anxiety levels were high, but this just was making her jittery. She tried to control it so no one would see. Her father was good friends with all of these men and he always worried when she had these attacks. So one word to him about it and he would be there within a day, checking to see if she was alright and what her trigger was.
"Sarah?" Yussif's voice pulled her out of her trance now as he walked up to her, cradling her face in his hands concerned. He knew what was happening. He could read her every emotion by now. "Are you alright darling?"
She nodded quickly now and took one of his hands in her's. "Can we talk about it in you're office?" she asked softly as he nodded and lead her out of the crowd that had been watching the Romans very closely.
He led her to his office, lifting her up to sit on his desk gently before shutting the doors and locking them. Yussif came back to Sarah now and sat down in his chair, reaching out to place his hands on her legs, looking up at her. He could see that her face was red, she had circles under her eyes and that she was stressed out. Her normally perfect hair was pulled up in a messy ponytail. He knew she had these anxious episodes and wanted to be there for her for all of her ups and downs.
"What can I do?" he asked softly, one of his hands taking her's. He kissed it gently as she relaxed.
She thought for a moment, biting her lip gently before responding. "Kiss me?"
He reached up to take her face in his hands, smiling at her before placing a gentle kiss on her lips, which instantly deepened as he pulled her into his lap. Her arms went around his neck as his own arms wrapped around her waist. Yussif clutched at the fabric of her dress as they kissed passionately. They were lost in eachother's embrace now as she started to relax more. His soft lips on her's and the feel of his comfortable robes were more than enough to calm her down. Knowing that her Yussif was there to protect her.
They kissed for a few more minutes before Yussif pulled back gently, taking her face in his hands. "My beautiful Sarah" he whispered softly. "Why were you so panicked out there?"
"You were so close to a Roman. It scared me" she whispered softly, tears forming in her eyes as she quickly wiped them away.
"Sarah no one is going to harm me" he said softly, leaning down to kiss her, wiping some remaining tears off her cheeks as she leaned into his hand, taking it in her own as he gazed into her eyes. "Do you believe me?"
She smiled and nodded, kissing Yussif once more, clutching his hand gently. "I don't just believe you. I love you."
Yussif smiled, placing his forehead on Sarah's, running a hand down her cheek as she gazed up at him happily. "I love you too" he said softly, holding her close to him as she buried her face in his neck. He would never let her go.
Later that day, Yussif walked out of Jairus' office to face an angry Sarah. He realized that she had just heard everything he had told Jairus and he sighed, running a hand down his face. He was trying to believe in Jesus and he was starting to, but he was still unsure that this man was the Messiah.
"Look sweetheart" he said, taking her hands in his. She was coming close to another anxiety attack that he could feel coming. She was also having a flashback. He could tell.
The anger went away just as fast as it had come though. Now Sarah was just tired. Tired and done with trying to make her beloved believe in the Rabbi that she was loyal to. The Rabbi she had stopped following only for the Rabbi that stood in front of her. Her Rabbi that she had loved more than life since she was sixteen. Tears filled her eyes once more, the frustration of the day getting to her. The exhaustion overcoming her now. Yussif saw this and placed a hand on her face, wiping away the tears that fell as she placed her hand on his.
"Darling..."
"Yussif I just need to go home and rest" she said, kissing him softly, rubbing her nose against his gently.
"Do you want me to come with you?" he asked now, reaching out to take her hand as she went to leave.
Sarah turned to face Yussif now, gently shaking her head. "I just need to be alone for awhile. I'll see you tonight."
She kissed his cheek gently, nuzzling it before walking away. Yussif stared after her for a few moments before going to his office. He only had one task to do before going home anyway. Sarah would be fine without him for an hour or so.
That night, Yussif was lying next to Sarah as he watched her sleep. He had gotten home thirty minutes ago and she just slept instead of waking up like she usually did. But that wasn't abnormal when she was stressed. She wasn't sick. He held her hand and stroked her hair gently out of her face now placing gentle kisses on her cheek every once in awhile
As she slept, he thought of all he had been through with Sarah. He had fallen in love with her when she was sixteen and now she was nineteen. They were inseparable. She was beautiful and kind, which was probably why she had followed Jesus for the short period of time that she did. She had always loved helping people.
Yussif had hurt her before she had left, which he sincerely regretted and she had been depressed and panicked when she came back to him. She thought he hated her and didn't believe in her. It took alot to undo that damage, even when he had told her that he believed in her when she came back.
Thankfully they were okay now. Better than okay. Yussif loved Sarah more than anything else in the world and was seriously considering proposing to her. He did not want to let her go now. He wouldn't let her go now.
"Yussif?" Sarah's voice broke him out of his trance now as he looked down into her light hazel eyes, a smile on his face.
"I'm right here darling" he said softly, leaning down to kiss her as she wrapped her arms around him, smiling against his lips now, happy that he was home.
He pulled back a little, gazing down at her as he caressed her cheek gently. "There's that beautiful smile."
Sarah reached up and moved his hair out of his eye gently, gazing up at him as she leaned up to kiss him once more. "You make me happy Yussif. Of course I'm smiling" she said, kissing his cheek a couple times as he pulled her closer, running a hand through her hair.
They're noses touched as they both smiled brightly, kissing eachother once more a second later. Yussif pulled her tightly against his chest as Sarah wrapped her arms around his neck, never wanting to be away from the man she loved. She giggled as he placed kisses all over her face now.
"Yussif that tickles!" she exclaimed now as he started to really tickle her as well. She was full on laughing now as he placed kisses down her neck as well, making her squirm.
"Okay I'm alerting the Sanhedrin! Yussif!" she managed to get out still laughing as he kissed her nose before pulling her closer to him.
He kissed her suddenly, smiling against her lips when she wrapped her arms around him tightly, one of her hands running through his hair. "Sarah you're father couldn't do anything about this even if he tried" he said before kissing her once more.
"Yeah. Because he's all the way in Jerusalem" she said, kissing his nose as she smiled up at him.
Yussif gazed down at her for a few moments before running his fingers through her own hair now, kissing her forehead as she closed her eyes once more, leaning into his kisses and caresses. She was lost in him at the moment and for the first time that day, all her anxiety melted away as her beloved held her close to him.
"I'm sorry we almost argued today" she whispered into his robes, clutching them gently as he tilted her head up to look up at him. His dark eyes boring into her own.
"Sarah I would still love you if we fought a million times a week. All I want to see is you happy. To be safe and loved."
"And that's why I came back to you Yussif" she said softly, her hands running up his chest now as they came to rest on his cheeks. She kissed him softly, one of her hands moving into his hair once more. "I may have wanted to follow Jesus, but you are the most important person in my world. You are my everything."
And that was the moment he knew. He knew what he had to do. He kissed her forehead softly before getting off the bed, walking towards his desk as she sat up and watched him curiously. She watched him go through almost a million drawers and once he found the right one, picking up a small box before walking towards her.
"Yussif?" she asked now, sitting up in bed, her hair falling around her shoulders in waves.
He smiled and walked over, kneeling in front of her with the box open. "Sarah, daughter of Nicodemus. Daughter of one of the best teachers Israel has ever known. I love you so much. I have loved you since you were sixteen. You are beautiful, kind and the most sensitive girl I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I will never stop loving you and I am sorry if I have ever made you doubt that. I will always believe in you and cherish you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?"
At this point Sarah was crying for the thousandth time that day, but this time the tears were out of happiness and sheer joy. "Yes! Yes Yussif I will marry you! I love you too!"
Yussif placed the ring on her finger gently before lifting her up in his arms bridal style as he spun her around, the both of them laughing happily. He set her down on the ground, taking her face in his hands as he kissed her lovingly and deeply. Sarah wrapped her arms around his neck happily, rubbing his nose playfully as she smiled up at him. Things would be okay now. She just knew it.
