Interlude: Memories from Alec's Backstory

Alec was fighting back a small horde of demons when he heard Gabriel's horn, signaling their retreat from the fight. With a blast of angelic magic, he pushed back the demons- managing to kill a few, so he could regroup with his brothers and sisters. Raziel was already talking to the other angels by the time Alec made it back to the group. "The idea is to give the mortals some of our blood, so they will be able to continue the fight against the demons."

Alec already knew of the plan, and had helped Raziel and a few others create the Mortal Instruments- the Cup and the Soul Sword. Most of the Angels agreed to the plan, and the ShadowHunters were born. Jonathan Shadowhunter was one of the first, but each Angel gave a little blood to start their own bloodlines- Alec included.

The Shadowhunters were going too far. They were hunting not just demons, but also downworlders like vampires, werewolves, and warlocks. Especially warlocks. Keeping their marks, ears, or fangs, as trophies.

It was disgusting.

Alec wanted to do something to help the Downworlders, but when he talked with the other Angels he was shot down.

"It's not our place to interfere."

"They are tainted blooded anyway."

Angels laughed and walked away.

"Do not interfere brother, we can't set this president for the mortals." Raziel narrowed his eyes at Alec, "I will not warn you again. If you try to interfere, we will stop you."

Alec should've heeded the warning from Raziel, but it was too late now as he was pulled down into the Hell dimensions. Hellfire burned his wings and Grace, but only partially. This fall was not sanctioned by Him. It was the other Angels pulling and pushing him further away from Heaven.

Alec could feel himself screaming as he tried to get away from the burning, from the arms holding him down. But it wasn't enough. He could feel himself changing, becoming more demonic.

When the Angels released him, Alec fled as fast as he could, trying to get away from the ones he used to call family. He could hear their laughter behind him. Could feel their dark stares.

The things they were calling him, "Dirty. Impure. Unworthy. Monster."

When he finally stopped, Alec was in Edom. The hell dimension closest to the Mortal Realm. Where Lilith and Asmodeus were at war for control, and would be for all eternity.

Alec was finally alone. He could feel the burning from the Hellfire lessen and merge with his Grace. Not quite a Fallen Angel, and no longer a full Angel welcome in Heaven.

And, as Alec was now learning- unable to leave the Hell Dimensions for the Mortal Realm.

/No! Nononononono. This can't be happening. Why would they do this?! I don't understand…/

Demons were attracted to the magic Alec was using to try to get back to Earth. Alec used their approach as a way to refocus his mind and make a plan. He needed to stay low, otherwise Lilith or Asmodeus would become interested, and that was a can of worms he was not ready to open.

Alec watched from the shadows as Asmodeus continued to pull his son further into his web of lies. He could see the boy was angry, scared, and definitely impressionable. He could see how Asmodeus' lessons were draining more and more life out of the young warlock. He could see the boy thought Asmodeus' 'love' was genuine.

Alec definitely needed to intervene. He'd spent enough time in Edom to have a better understanding of his powers and was confident he could hold off Asmodeus long enough for the boy to get back to the Mortal Realm. Alec gathered his magic, subtly so the pair wouldn't know what he was doing…

/Now./

Alec struck out with his magic. As predicted Asmodeus took the bait and left the boy to finish his "lesson" alone. Next, Alec used his magic to influence the boy just enough to gather his courage a bit to get away.

Again it worked. The boy drew a pentagram and left Edom behind.

Alec was a little sad to see him go, but this was no place for a young warlock. It was literally Hell. However, now Alec had to go have a little "chat" with Asmodeus.

The fight he had with Asmodeus was dark and dirty. Each of them giving and taking hits that could be fatal if they weren't just a hair faster. Alec feigned to the left, and used his momentum to grab Asmodeus around the neck from behind. There was a quick snap, and Asmodeus slumped in Alec's hold- dead.

Alec quickly used hellfire to burn up his body so there was no chance for him to regenerate.

Seconds later, Alec was overwhelmed with the magic of Edom flooding into his body as the new King of the Realm. He could feel the demons, the landscape, everything. He knew where Lilith was in her castle. He could also feel some of his Angelic Grace turning demonic to help balance the magic from Edom within his body.

Alec didn't know it, but his eyes now had fire licking through them. He decided the little Shack that was Asmodeus' home would be his now. But he would add some doors and shutters on the windows. Perhaps even a roof?

When Alec felt a Nephilim presence in Edom heading toward Lilith's castle, he was intrigued. Alec followed the man's aura in the shadows, curious to see what he was looking for from Lilith. Alec knew the Nephilim couldn't actually set foot in the Hell dimensions, so this work around he's found with astral projection was ingenious.

"What could you possibly have to give me Nephilim? Me, the Queen of Hell." Liith was sitting on her throne, looking down at the man's astral projection.

"I can give you what you've wanted for your entire life, my Queen. I can give you a child. All I will need is a vial of your blood." This Valentine was a smooth talker, and Alec could tell he was slowly wrapping Lilith around his little finger, ready to give him whatever he wanted.

"Interesting proposal Nephilim. How do you presume to do this?" Lilith was sitting up higher on her throne, intrigue written all over her face.

Valentine launched into his plan for injecting his followers who were pregnant mothers, to try to create a newer, better Shadowhunter. "The demon blooded one will of course be the best. Especially with your blood, my Queen."

"Hmm," said Lilith, "I do like this idea of yours Nephilim. What do you think of it, my King? A child of my own. Oh, the things I could teach them."

Alec stepped out of the Shadows behind Valentine. He knew the Nephilim was startled by the sudden entrance, but Valentine didn't show it on his face. He just turned to keep both Lilith and Alec in his sight. Alec also didn't move closer or try to make it easier on the mortal.

"Asmodeus, it's an honor to meet you," said Valentine, trying to smooth talk Alec as well.

Alec snorted, "Asmodeus isn't available to chat right now. Perhaps there is something I can help you with instead?"

Valentine didn't even blink at the news, but again, Alec knew he was thrown off his stride.

"Ah, well, I was hoping to also get the blood of a Fallen. However, if Edom's king isn't available, then perhaps I can check one of the other Hell dimensions after I've concluded my business with my Queen here." Valentine dismissed Alec as a non-threat, but didn't turn back fully to Lilith.

Alec tilted his head, "What makes you think Edom's king wants to father a child Nephilim?"

Valentine wasn't going to answer, but Lilith cut in, "answer him Nephilim."

"Well," said Valentine nonchalantly, "it's harder for a Greater Demon to get summoned to the Mortal Realm and procreate the old fashioned way. This would just be taking out the middleman, so to speak. Plus, it would be a Nephilim mother, which means the child would have a greater mix of demon and angel blood."

Alec's eyes hardened, but his body didn't change otherwise, "I have no interest in fathering a child, through normal means or through your experiments. However, there is something else I will take as part of our deal."

Without warning, Alec sprung forward and grabbed a hold of the astral projection of Valentine. He placed his hands on either side of the Nephilim's head and pushed his magic into him. In the summoning circle Valentine's body was arching its back, and glowing a dark red around his temples. He was also screaming in pain, but no matter what the Warlock or his parabatai did, they couldn't break the connection.

When he was done, Alec released Valentine and handed him a small vial of blood he'd pulled out of his arm with magic.

"What did you do…" gasped Valentine, trying to regain his breathing through the lingering pain.

"I've taken what I wanted from our deal. I'm connected to you to follow the progress of your rebel group." Alec didn't elaborate further that he would pull the dead souls of Circle members into Edom to torture after their deaths. Nor did he tell Valentine that he would now be able to tell what was happening in the Shadow World with the Circle. That he could now follow Valentine's every move, and through his Rune, all of his followers.

Lilith let out a small giggle, before also waving a small vial of her own blood over to Valentine, "I can hardly wait to be a mother. Do be a dear and send my child down here when the time is right. I want to have a hand in raising them properly."

Valentine knew that wasn't a request. Thinking he got the better end of the deal, the Shadowhunter pulled his astral project back towards his body, taking care to bring the vials of blood with him.

"This changes nothing between us," said Lilith with ice in her voice, directed at Alec, after Valentine left.

"I didn't think it did," said Alec just as coldly, as he disappeared from Lilith's castle to return to his own home.

Iris Rouse was summoning demons to create new Warlocks. When she started pulling them from Edom, Alec was aware and decided to see what she was doing for himself. When she attempted a summoning, Alec kept the demon in Edom, using his role as King to go in the demon's place.

The little girl in Iris' arms was days old, and Alec could already feel drawn to her. He decided to make a deal with Iris and created a connection to the warlock baby. As the girl grew, so did Alec's connection to her, especially with Iris continuing to summon him as per their deal. He didn't see the child much, but that didn't matter.

Alec was dealing with a demon attack from Lilith when he felt a familiar magical presence enter his home. /Why does that magic feel familiar?/

Absently Alec finished off the demons to return to investigate the presence further. He cautiously returned home to find the back of the young warlock Asmodeus fathered centuries prior. Only now he was all grown up. Alec stood in the doorway of his throne room to watch the warlock a moment longer, before softly closing the door and locking it with his magic.

When Magnus turned around to face him, Alec's breath caught in his chest, though he kept his reaction as subtle as he could. The warlock was clearly not faring any better, as he stumbled over his words. Alec felt his face turn into a small smile at the stuttering and drew the man further into a conversation.

After a bit of teasing on Alec's part /he has a very cute blush/, he moved towards his throne to sit down. The demons Lilith had sent got a few more hits in than he would've liked.

/I bet this will prove to be a highly amusing conversation./ Thought Alec as he sat down and crossed his legs, trying to draw more reactions out of the young warlock.

He was not disappointed.
