A month later

"Mrs. Cullen, could you tell us anything else about what happened that night?" Asked the lawyer the Cullens had hired.

I sighed and rolled my shoulders, " Edward had been abusing me not long after we married… I don't know if I could call this man an angel because angels don't do what he did for me but he was hellbent on finding the man behind all the scars I had hidden. I honestly never thought this day would happen, I never thought I would be able to leave him and I certainly didn't think I'd be before a judge but when I saw him I knew Edward would never be able to hit me again. He had a look in his eyes like he knew the pain I had been through."

The courtroom looked appalled that I could call this man who killed my husband an angel, but in my eyes, he saved me, and for that, I will forever be grateful.

"Mrs. Cullen," the lawyer started.

"Miss Swan, actually." I responded automatically, I never wanted to take his name, but now that he's gone, I can finally be who I used to be.

"Miss Swan.. You do understand he murdered your husband, correct?"

"You mean the man who abused me daily and the man who no one could tell you one good thing about, including his family?"

"You do understand, Mr. Whitlock is going to jail, correct?"

"Correct. But I will forever be grateful for him."

"You're grateful he killed your husband?"

"The man he killed was not the man I agreed to marry. That was a monster who got off on hitting a woman."

"I think that'll be the last of my questions, Miss Swan."

5 Years Later

"How are you, Peter?" I asked we'd gotten to know each other a lot better over the last couple of years.

"I'm good Darlin'," Peter responded from the other side of the table." How're you doin'?"

"I'm doing good, actually. I finally got promoted, actually." I smile slightly, after the whole court thing they decided that Peter would be stuck in jail for a while so I've been visiting him every month since he got here. I've asked if he ever regretted it, and all he ever had to say was," It was worth the price just to see you be free. It might not be the best here. It's a hell of a lot better than where I sent him Darlin'." And I will forever be glad he showed up that one rainy night all those years ago… Just to set me free.

Not the best I've written but I like it and hope you guys did too!
