The plane landed and thankfully, the sun wasn't out so there was no chance of her getting caught being different. Some part of her wanted to head down to La Push to see everyone. What if they found out what happened to her – would they still like her? What is going to be happening now that she was – different. From the stories that was told, she was no longer human. Though maybe Werewovles didn't exist anymore. She had to call Sam when she got the chance to explain her situation to him before she made a trip down there.
"Dad, is it alright if I call Sam when we get home?" Serena asked as she looked at her father.
"Of course, he's probably worried sick. He normally is whenever we have left the state." Charlie responded as he got into the car.
"He's nice like that."
"Do you like Sam?"
"No – I don't know – I mean, he's nice an all, but a bit too old for me and he's my best friend."
"That is true."
Everything she thought was no longer a fable table. It would be real. So she was no going to be stuck and wondering what else could be true. She now had to keep a part of life a secret from her own family. Technically she could never forgive her mother – Renee for leaving her and disappearing to be with her true soulmate. Probably she would be trapped seeing colors for the rest of her life. Serena was scared to even try anything because what if she accidentally killed the person by mistake?
There was so much that was going on through her head that she knew that one day everything would make sense when Dr. Cullen came to live here and helped her. She wondered who his family was going to be like. She wondered if there was a chance that she would be better off being with one of the males who was single? The walk through the Airport was very confusing since there were so many new smells that she never smelt before. Some of them were making her hungry, and others were making her stomach hurt. Why was this happening to her? She had to get out of this airport – right now.
"Serena, are you okay?" Charlie asked as he looked at her, picking up her luggage.
"Ye-yeah, I'm okay." Serena answered as she went to catch up to Charlie to stay close with him. "I just – didn't like being separated, it brings back to when….Mom left me and I got hurt."
"It won't happen again…I promise you. You will no longer see Renee, that was the last straw."
Serena was happy when they got to car and they were able to get going. Her thoughts were drifted towards to what Sam would think. What was going to be happening when she met him again after the change. Her thoughts were too many scenarios of what Sam would do. Too many would make her seem like she was just being alone. Where he would just leave her and forget about her – making her an enemy. It was something that she wasn't supposed to know about the tribe down in La Push. She didn't know how to even tell Sam, or even if she should – but she wanted to tell him.
"Is everything okay? You seem a bit – silent over there," Charlie asked as he looked over at Serena, wondering what really happened with her and her mother.
"I'm fine Dad. It's just – Shocking over what had happened.." Serena whispered.
"If you want to be home-schooled for a while – I'll understand." Charlie looked at her.
"No. N-no thank you. I-I'll be fine. I don't want this to be a reason why people treat me differently."
"Serena.."
"Dad, I'm fine, really."
Charlie was about to say something else but he soon closed his mouth as he knew that it would just make Serena go back into her shell. This trauma that happened to her – shouldn't have happened to her. One day he would hope that Bella would understand that staying with Renee would hurt her in the end. Charlie wondered if Renee had Bella, would this had happened as well? These kind of thoughts were running through Charlie's head and he didn't like them. The ride back to the house was long, but it was something that he wondered if therapy would help – though if Serena wasn't going to talk to him about what happened – would she talk to a professional to help her?
The two arrived back at the house and Charlie parked the car and gave the keys to Serena to unlock the door while he went to get the luggage. Serena took the keys as she headed into the house and went to grab the phone, so she could call Sam. How would she tell him? This isn't something that could be said over the phone in case there was someone listening in – wait – now she was being paranoid. Serena took a deep breath as she dialed his phone number.
Ring. One heartbeat pounding in her ears.
Ring. She was kind of happy that he didn't pick on the first ring.
Ring. One more ring and she didn't have to talk to him today.
"Hello?" Sam's voice was heard on the other end.
"Hey...Sam..." Serena muttered.
"Serena! When did you get back?" Sam was excited to see her.
"T-today."
"Serena...I missed you while you were gone. You don't understand how much it hurt to know I couldn't be there.."
"So-something happened and I don't want to tell you over the phone."
"Serena….What the hell happened while you were with your mother?"
"I – I can't tell you like this...Can...Can I come see you?"
"Of course."
"See you soon."
Serena hung up the phone – her heart was pounding in her chest as she could feel a panic attack form. She hasn't had one since she was younger. Serena found Charlie in her room setting her suitcase on the floor.
"Hey dad...Sam said I can go visit him. Do you think you can give me a lift to La Push?" She asked as she looked at him.
"Ah, sure. I want to go see Billy anyways and talk about a future fishing trip so I don't want to leave you alone until you are ready."
"Thank you, but I'm just going to take a quick shower and change out of these clothes and then we can go."
Serena headed the bathroom located in her room as she started the shower up. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and she hummed slightly as she wondered how she was going to be able to tell Sam the truth on what happened without him getting mad...That was going to be the hard part. How was she going to make sure that everything was going to go smoothly?
The one thing that Serena was remembering one of the tales of the Tribe that she has been told when she was younger.
Our tribe is descended from a very long line of protectors. We also had Wolves as our one day, a powerful woman came and she was nothing like the other woman we had seen. She was different in all aspects. She was the enemy of the wolves – a Cold One. She had killed our wolf companions. We were left defense's.
The leader of the tribe was so angry and hurt that this Cold One had killed his companion. It was said that you get your wolf at the age of five, a little wolf pup and the two of you would grow up together, to be in sync with each other. Anyways, because the leader was mad, it was like a gift from his wolf that all of a sudden the leader was no longer human, but he transformed into a werewolf.
Ever since then, our tribe has been known as the protectors of this land. And that the Cold Ones are longer allowed to set foot on this land.
Cold One. Werewolves. If the stories were true – then the cold one would be – Vampires. Serena was now a vampire – but she was always welcomed down at La Push – before this accident. Here she was a vampire now. That means that Sam and everyone – are actually Werewolves – right? She never seen them transform into one before, but now? What would happen if she stepped foot down there? Would she be ripped apart like the vampires from their tales?
Serena shook her head as she knew that Sam and everyone were her friends and that they wouldn't do anything to her – she hoped. Serena looked at herself in the mirror – the place where that vampire bit – was gone. Dr. Cullen even mentioned that when he checked on her while she was at the hospital. She was worried about it leaving a scar. She wouldn't know how to tell people how she got it if it stayed.
"Serena! Are you ready yet?" Charlie called up the stairs.
"Almost!" She said as she looked at her outfit.
She tied her hair up into a pony tail as she did one more look over at the black shorts she was wearing, and purple top, and white light-weight sweater, along with a pair of flip flops. She grabbed a pair of sunglasses as she walked down the stairs and wondered if she was going to be able to do anything at all – or would something happen if she got too close. Serena walked down the stairs as she smiled at her dad.
"Ready!" She was just happy to see her friends – to see Sam. Even though she knew her feelings towards him weren't romantic, she was still happy to see him.
The two of them headed off towards La Push. The journey wasn't long, but it was going to be the journey because Charlie didn't really get much rest because he wanted to make sure that she was going to be okay as she rested. Charlie knew that going down to La Push and seeing her friends would make her realize that she has a group of people who will be there for her no matter what happened.
As Charlie got closer to the beach, Serena started to get nervous a bit. Part f her wanted to turn back and crawl back under her covers while the other part of her was happy was to see everyone. Something told her that she was going to be okay. Sam would be on her side.
"Billy told me everyone was going to be down by the beach, so I'll drop you off there and head on to Billy's house." Charlie spoke to Serena – bringing her out of her thoughts.
"Okay." Serena nodded as Charlie pulled into one the parking spaces by the beach.
"Have fun sweetie."
"I will."
Serena got out of the truck as she took a deep breath and walked towards the group as they were playing beach volleyball. Just then Sam snapped his head as he smelled Serena – but she didn't smell right. She smelt off. What was it? What was that smell that he was smelling? Paul looked over and saw Sam as he looked a bit off, and then noticed Serena.
"Serena!" Paul shouted as he ran over. "What's up girl? How was your trip, minus being stuck in the hospital?"
"Oh, it was fine. Mom found her soulmate finally." Serena said.
She then saw Sam walking over to – his eyes were dark, as he was sensing something that was foreign to him.
"Serena…we have to talk now." He said as he took her arm and pulled her off to be private.
This is what she wanted. She wanted him to know, because they were connected through the Kin Bond. He had to be the first one to know the truth. He had to make sure what he was smelling was true – why was she smelling so different? Who was she? Was she still Serena? What really happened to her on that trip? These questions were running through Sam's brain as he had to come the conclusion on what was going on with her.
He took a deep breath – he was trying not to transform in front of her. He was told that even though she was Kin bonded to him, she isn't ready to know the truth. Not yet. "Serena….What really happened to you on your trip…."
"I...Renee met her soulmate, she was able to see color for the first time and she left me in the crowded street – and disappeared from me. Next thing I know this guy told me that my mom found her soulmate and that's why she walked away from me. He...He was supposed to help me look for her. Instead...he just bit me and something happened..."
"Wait! He BIT you?!" Sam was seething. He knew what she was now. She was a Cold One. This was dangerous – but she was still Serena. He could feel it and he could see it that she was still herself. "What happened to him…." his voice was like venom now.
"I-I don't know...Sam...the legends...are they true?" Serena whispered as she looked at the sand – not meeting his eyes.
"What do you mean?" He was taken back. Why would she ask something like that. That wasn't like her to asks something like that.
"I'm asking you, is it true that you – you and the tribe are werewolves." She stated as she stared at him wanting to know the truth.
"What- I can't tell if you asking because you believe in those tales or if you are asking because you think you turned into something like from that tale..." He looked at her. He was trying to read her. Trying to see if he can figure it out. He knew with her just being here – it was going to trigger other transformations from the others.
"Because….I….The guy who bit me – was a vampire." She muttered.
"I'm sorry – what?"
"He was a vampire!"
"What makes you think that?"
"Well, he had my blood on him before I passed out."
"Maybe he was just a crazy guy and bit you."
Sam was trying to think about everything else but the fact that this girl who he wanted to protect was gone – she was not the same girl. She was completely something different. Though he couldn't believe that she was one of them. He heard the tales of the Cullen family from long ago when there was only four of them. But now, here she was. A cold one. This was something that needed to be discussed right away with everyone. They had to understand that something like this – she didn't even understand what she truly was yet. Sam wanted everyone to know that she had to be protected even if she was one their enemies.
"Sam, are you listening to me?"
"What?"
"I knew it, you weren't paying attention to a word I was saying."
Serena was now sure that Sam didn't care about her or what was going on. She sighed as she looked away from him. She was sure that he hated her now for what she was. What was she? Was she really vampire? That Dr. Carlisle Cullen said that she was a vampire, just like him and his family. Would she she meeting them soon?
"Serena, you just can't say something stupid about becoming something from a story without proof." Sam said to her as he was a bit worried about her and how she acting.
She didn't look like she was going to bite anyone – yet. There was still a chance that she would become one of them. This was all new to her. She wasn't sure what was going on anymore with her body. She wasn't really craving blood – like she thought and her eyes were still the brown they were. Serena was just confused because she remembered Dr. Cullen's eyes being a golden color. It was an unnatural color for eyes, how did he even answer the question when someone asked him about the strange eye color. It was a question that Serena was going have to ask incase her eye color ever changed.
"You-You...Ugh there is nothing to describe you at right now!" Serena huffed. "You don't know WHAT I went through! I know perfectly well WHAT happened to ME."
Sam balled up his fist. He knew something within him was happening and he didn't know what it was. There was something off - he felt hot. He felt like he was burning up from the inside. It didn't feel right.
"Serena, you...you need to go right now..." Sam growled. He was burning up so bad that he wanted to rip something to shreds.
"Sam, I'm not going anywhere!" Serena was pissed. There was no way of knowing what was going on with the two of them.
Sam let out a beastly growl, which scared Serena. She started to slowly back away from him. She saw him shaking and this was something that she's never seen before. Her back hit a tree as he stood there shaking and then all of a sudden - in a blink of a eye - Sam was no longer standing there. There was a Black Wolf. A Wolf where Sam was.
"Sam..."
"Arrooooooo"
"Sam is that you?"
Sam looked at her and he started to bare his teeth. He was stalking over to her. Serena didn't know what to do - but she let out a loud scream as the Wolf stalked closer to her.
