PITCH PERFECT SPOOKFEST 2023 - DAY 5 - CAME BACK WRONG

Summary: Amy and Beca rescue the Bellas after Amy's father kidnaps them. In the ensuing escape, Fat Amy jumps off her father's yacht and hits the rowboat she and Beca used to reach the girls. Amy was injured so badly that she was technically dead.

WARNING - Character death.

AMY'S NOT AMY

"Jump, Amy!" Beca yelled out as she leaped over the side of the yacht.

Amy jumped and hit the rowboat that they had used to get to the yacht. Beca hit the water and surfaced just as Amy's body fell over the side. Beca swam over quickly and held Amy to keep her from sinking.

"Someone help me get her into the boat!" Beca called out.

"I'll get into the boat and help," Chloe said, lifting herself up and into the boat.

"Ready?" Jessica asked, looking up at Chloe.

Chloe reached out as Jessica and Beca tried to push Amy up and into the boat. Chloe grabbed Amy's arms and said, "Push her butt to help get her up."

Jessica put her hands on Amy's butt and pushed up with every ounce of strength she had left. Chloe put her arms around Amy's torso as Beca grabbed Amy's legs. Between the three of them, they managed to get Amy into the boat.

Chloe lay Amy flat and felt for a pulse.

"She doesn't have a pulse," Chloe cried. "Ashley, you know CPR. Can you help?"

Ashley didn't say anything; she just pulled herself up and into the boat. She also felt to see if Amy had a pulse. Finding none, she started chest compressions.

The other Bellas held onto the side of the rowboat, anxiously watching as Ashley tried to revive Amy.

"Chloe, check her pulse," Ashley said, stopping compressions.

Chloe put her fingers to Amy's neck and cried out, "I can feel a pulse! It's faint, but it's there."

The girls sighed in relief.

"There's a rescue boat," Emily cried out, pointing toward it.

~~Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2023 - Day 5~~

As soon as the rescue boat made it to shore, Amy was placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital. The Bellas were put on a shuttle bus and taken to the hospital as well.

Once the bus arrived at the hospital, the girls were taken to be checked out. Beca was done first and went looking for someone to tell them how Amy was doing. She found a doctor, and he sat down with her and started talking.

"Miss Hobart's heart stopped twice while in the ambulance," the doctor told Beca. "They brought her back, but she was out for so long we're afraid there may be some brain damage due to lack of oxygen."

"What kind of damage?" Beca asked.

"Amnesia, personality changes, things of that nature," the doctor replied. "We won't know the full extent until she wakes up, and we can talk to her and run some tests."

"So, you're saying when she does wake up, she won't be the same Amy we all know," Beca said.

"It's a possibility," the doctor said.

"Do you know how long it will be before she wakes up?" Beca asked.

"We think she'll wake soon," the doctor said. "I'll have someone notify you when she wakes."

A few of the Bellas were done being examined and saw Beca with the doctor. They rushed over, asking after Amy. The doctor repeated what he had told Beca.

"Can we see her?" Chloe asked.

"Not yet," the doctor said. "As I said, I'll have someone let you know when she's awake. Now, if you ladies will excuse me, I have to go check on Miss Hobart."

"Thank you, doctor," Aubrey said.

The Bellas stood looking at each other. Aubrey opened her mouth as if to say something but closed it when words would not come to her.

"What do we do, Aubrey?" Beca asked.

"I really don't know," Aubrey said.

Emily looked around and then settled her gaze on Chloe.

"Where's our security detail?" she asked, shivering due to her wet clothes and the hospital's air conditioning. "I'd like to go back to our hotel and get into something warm and dry."

The other Bellas nodded in agreement as they stood shivering next to Emily.

"Yeah, Chloe, where is Captain America?" Beca snarked. "Isn't he supposed to be making sure we're safe? You'd think after you all were kidnapped, he'd be a bit more vigilant."

"I don't know," Chloe said, pushing her hair back. "And why are you mad at me? I didn't do anything."

Beca sighed and walked over to Chloe, and knelt in front of her. "I'm sorry," she said. "I'm just worried about Amy and have so many unanswered questions, I'm frustrated. I didn't mean to take it out on you."

Chloe hugged Beca, and Beca let her.

"It's okay," Chloe murmured. "We're all frustrated and worried about Amy."

"Excuse me," a nurse said, looking at the group. "Miss Hobart is awake, and the doctor said it was okay for you to see her now. But, please keep it to two or three at a time."

"Oh," Beca said, pulling away from Chloe to stand. "I'd like to see her."

"Me, too," Chloe said, standing.

"Can I go with you?" Emily asked.

The other Bellas started asking to go as well.

"Stop!" Beca finally said, getting everyone's attention. "I think Chloe and I should go in together so as not to overwhelm Amy. Then the rest of you can pair up and visit with her."

"That makes sense," Aubrey said.

The others reluctantly agreed. Beca and Chloe followed the nurse to Amy's room.

~~Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2023 - Day 5~~

Amy was sitting up in bed, looking wide-eyed and bushy-tailed, when Beca and Chloe walked into the room.

"Rebeca! Chloe!" Amy shouted when she saw them. "How good of you both to come visit with me."

Beca looked at Chloe; Chloe was staring at Amy.

"Hey, Ames," Beca finally said. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm doing well, thank you for asking, Rebeca," Amy replied.

Beca furrowed her brow and looked at Chloe again.

"Where'd her accent go?' Beca whispered.

"I don't know," Chloe said. "And when did she start calling you Rebecca?"

"It is not polite to whisper," Amy said, shaking her head.

Beca and Chloe looked at Amy.

"Our apologies," Chloe said. "We were just commenting on how good you look after all you've been through."

"Thank you," Amy said, shyly nodding her head in acknowledgment.

Even with the doctor's warning, Amy's behavior was disconcerting to Beca, and she decided she wanted to get out of there.

"You look tired," Beca told Amy. "We should go so you can get some rest."

"That's a fine idea," Amy said. "Will I speak with you both later?"

"Of course," Chloe said. "Um, the other girls want to see you, but we'll tell them you're resting so they don't disturb you."

"You don't have to do that," Amy said. "I'd like to see them now. Please have them come in."

"Oh, okay," Chloe said. "Come on, Beca, let's go."

Beca followed Chloe out of the room, stopping her once she was sure Amy wouldn't hear them.

"I think her behavior has changed because of the lack of oxygen to her brain," Beca said. "At least based on what the doctor said."

"I think you might be right," Chloe said. "We should warn the others so they won't be surprised when they come in."

"Okay," Beca said.

~~Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2023 - Day 5~~

After telling the Bellas about Amy's odd behavior, Beca and Chloe spent several minutes fielding questions from the girls.

"I'd still like to see her," Aubrey said. "And see for myself how she is."

"I'll go with you," Emily said.

"Okay," Beca said. "But don't say we didn't warn you."

"Come on, Emily," Aubrey said, and the two walked to Amy's room.

"Where is she?" Emily asked when they found Amy's bed empty.

"I don't know," Aubrey said. "Do you think they may have taken her for tests or something?"

"Maybe," Emily said.

Just then, they heard whimpering coming from the other side of Amy's bed.

"I think she fell out of bed," Aubrey said, hurrying to the other side of the bed.

They both stopped in their tracks when they saw a nurse lying on the floor in a pool of blood. Emily recovered first and ran toward the door.

"We need some help in here!" Emily cried out as she looked up and down the hall for someone.

A few doctors and nurses rushed toward the room.

"That sounded like Emily," Jessica said, running out of the waiting area.

All the Bellas followed Jessica and reached the room as Emily and Aubrey were being shoved out the door.

"What happened?" Flo asked.

"We don't know," Aubrey said. "Amy was not in her bed when we got here. We found a nurse lying on the floor in a puddle of blood, and Amy is nowhere to be found."

"We told you there was something odd going on with her," Beca said.

"Should we go looking for Amy?" Ashley asked.

A nurse exited the room, looking pale and shaken.

"Are you okay?" Chloe asked.

The nurse shook her head.

"Is the other nurse okay?" Emily asked. "The one we found on the floor?

"She's dead," the nurse said as tears slid down her cheeks. "She is, was my best friend."

"What about the patient that was in there?" Cynthia Rose asked. "She's our friend, and we're worried about her."

An alarm sounded, and a voice came over the intercom saying, Attention! Attention! A Code Grey has been initiated. All hospital personnel are ordered to report to their stations. We are in a Code Grey situation, and more information will be provided as needed.

"What does all that mean?" Beca asked.

"The hospital has been put on lockdown," the nurse said. "No one will be allowed in or out until they find your friend."

The other nurses and doctors made their way slowly out of Amy's room.

"Call someone to get a gurney and get Lisa out of there," a doctor said to no one in particular.

The nurse who had been speaking with the Bellas started walking away, saying, "I'll do it."

The Bellas looked at each other, unsure of what they should do.

"We can't leave the hospital," Chloe said. "So, we should probably go back to the waiting room."

The girls nodded and slowly made their way to the waiting room. Just as they began to settle in their seats, several officers came in with weapons at the ready. The doctor who had been in Amy's room met them and started explaining the situation.

"We'll begin a floor-by-floor sweep," the officer in charge told his men. "The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, so act accordingly."

"Yes, sir," the officers said collectively before leaving the areas

"I guess they're going to treat Amy as a murderer," Aubrey said. "I hope she gives up, and they can figure out what really happened to make her kill that nurse."

"She died," Beca said. "Twice. Three times, if you count the time at the boat when Ashley had to do CPR." Beca shook her head. "I told you there was something off about her. If this is what she's become, I almost wish they hadn't brought her back."

"Beca!" Chloe admonished.

"Tell me you weren't thinking the same thing," Beca said, staring into Chloe's eyes.

Chloe looked away; she knew Beca was right, but she didn't really want to say as much.

"Sadly, I feel the same as Beca," Emily said. "I don't know who that was that killed the nurse, but it wasn't our Amy."

"All we can do now is pray for her and hope that the police find her," Flo said. "Then maybe we can get her some help."

"If they don't kill her first," Cynthia Rose said. "They consider her to be armed and dangerous. So, who knows what might happen to her."

"Do you think they would, you know, kill her?" Chloe asked, not wanting to hear the answer.

Beca shrugged as Aubrey said, "Cynthia Rose made a good point. Amy's already killed one person; the police won't sit idly by and let her kill another. She may give them no choice but to shoot her."

"Can't they use those rubber bullets?" Jessica asked. "It would hurt her but not kill her."

"If I had any clue that this was going to happen, I wouldn't have tried so hard to bring her back," Ashley muttered to herself.

"It doesn't matter," Beca said, having heard Ashley. "Killing that nurse is not something the Amy we know would have done."

"Do you think she's possessed?" Flo asked, making a sign of the cross.

"No, I don't," Beca said. "I think her brain was messed up from lack of oxygen while everyone tried to bring her back. And I believe she didn't know what she was doing when she killed that nurse."

"Can we please stop talking about Amy dying?" Emily asked with tears in her eyes.

"I think that's an excellent idea," Aubrey said, smiling softly at Emily. "Do you think the cafeteria is open so we can get coffee or something?"

"There's a police officer," Jessica said. "Let's ask him."

"Excuse me, sir," Aubrey said as she, Emily, and Jessica approached the officer. "We know we can't leave the hospital, but do you know if we can go to the cafeteria? We'd like to get some coffee."

"The cafeteria is on the first floor," the officer said. "It's already been searched, and I believe it is open. I'll have to escort whoever wants to go."

"Thank you," Aubrey said, turning toward the girls. "Emily, Jessica, and I will get everyone coffee."

"Thanks, Brey," Chloe said. "I'd love some coffee."

"Count me in," Beca said.

~~Pitch Perfect SpookFest 2023 - Day 5~~

Thirty minutes later, the three Bellas returned to find the others crying and holding onto each other.

"What's wrong?" Aubrey asked, setting down the coffee tray she had been carrying.

"Amy's dead," Chloe said through her tears. "The police just told us."

"What happened?" Jessica asked.

Chloe looked at Beca; Beca swallowed and wiped her tears.

"An officer found Amy hiding in a closet on the fifth floor," Beca said, sniffling. "She lunged at the officer while brandishing a scalpel, and two officers discharged their weapons, killing her instantly. Their words, not mine."

"Are they sure Amy's dead?" Jessica asked.

"They're sure," Beca said.

Emily let out a sob, and Aubrey pulled her to her. Tears streamed down both their faces.

"Brey, can you call your father so we can get started on arrangements to take Amy back to the U.S.?" Chloe asked. "We're the only family she has left, so it will be up to us to see that she gets a proper burial."

"I'll do that right away," Aubrey said, pulling out her phone. "Would you take Emily? I think she's going to need someone's shoulder for a bit longer."

"I got her," Chloe said, reaching for Emily.

Two weeks later, with her Bellas sisters in attendance, along with some of their college friends and acapella enthusiasts, Amy was laid to rest in Barden Cemetery. Beca, Chloe, and Aubrey were the last to leave the gravesite.

"I know I shouldn't say this," Beca said as she looked around to ensure no one else could hear her. "But I hope Amy stays dead this time."

"I second that," Chloe added. "I'll miss her and will always remember her the way she was."

"May she rest in peace," Aubrey said.
