Chapter One: Haunting Origins

'Why am I here again?', Jason thought to himself as he walked down the street of the beautiful yet eerie looking town.

"Oh yeah, that's why", he said to himself, remembering himself buying a ticket to a random location in the U.S. to not just get away from Ra's al Ghul and his League of Shadows, but also to avoid Bruce and any other heroes.

After a quick look around, Jason found he has traveled to a place called Amity Park.

"Amity Park? That explains some of the eeriness", Jason deadpanned. The name of the town was reminiscent of Amityville Horror and Amity Island of "JAWS" fame.

'Alright Jason, you promised to stay wherever you end up', he thought to himself. Jason spent the rest of the day getting the lay of the town while also looking for a place to stay. Most of the what he could find to stay didn't feel right nor some of the people around there.

Nearly giving up on a legit place to stay and about to start looking for an abandoned building, Jason spots something at the upcoming intersection.

A building made of reddish bricks, which made it stand out from the whites and blues surrounding it. Above the front door was a 20-30 foot tall sign saying 'Fenton Works'. There was also a massive metal structure on the brick building that somehow supported it. All of which made it stand out even more. Finally was a 'Room for Rent' sign.

Jason headed over to the door and politely knocked on it.

"Coming!", a voice sounded out. Jason could hear steps bound to the door before it opened to reveal a Auburn haired teenager. She was wearing a black long sleeve shirt, and matching Flats shoes. She was also wearing aqua colored pants with a matching headband in her hair. She gave off the feeling of a smart girl. in other words, she reminded him of Barbara

"Hello", she says with a small wave, "What is it?".

"Hi, I was wondering about the room for rent", Jason says as he points to the sign.

"Seriously?!", she questioned in disbelief. It was like she doubted anyone would want to live here.

"Uh, yeah", Jason replys, with a confused tone.

"Alright, come in", she gestured to the living room couch as she allowed him in.

"Mom, Dad, someone is here for the room!!", She called out. Jason heard a rush of feet from what he assumed was the basement come up and out a door, then into the living room.

Jason was initially taken aback, as both of her parents were wearing colorful rubber/spandex jumpsuits.

The woman wore a blue rubber jumpsuit with long black gloves and boots. Her suit also has a black belt with one pouch for her equipment. She's also has on a hood/mask, along with a pair of black lab goggles with red lenses. Otherwise, she looked like a curvy but fit mother.

Next to her, is a large and bulky man wearing a matching orange jumpsuit along with black boots and gloves. Unlike with the mother, he could see his face and that he had greying black hair and blue eyes.

"Hello, nice to meet you", Jason greeted with a handshake.

"Hello as well", the woman says, returning the handshake.

Jason goes to shake the man's hand, but he is pulled into a back breaking hug, "HELLO!", the man cheered.

"Honey, put him down", the woman admonished him. The big guy then put Jason down, well he actually dropped him.

"Well, may I ask why is it that you wish to stay here?", the mother asks, clasping her hands together in front of her.

"Uh, well, I just came to town today, and I plan to stay here permanently but all other locations weren't really my thing", Jason replied, "and I just happen to stumble upon the sign outside."

"Well I am more than happy to have you!", the father loudly stated and looked ready to pounce him for another hug, but the mother was able to keep him in place.

"May I ask about your situation, you look a little young to be on your own", the mother asks, her hand on her husband's shoulder.

"I was emancipated and decided to head away from the east coast and ended up here. I'm currently 16 going on 17", Jason explained. This explaining how someone his age was alone.

"Oh", the mother sadly says, "Well you're more then welcome to stay but why did you become emancipated and move inland?"

"Grandma Gunn thought it best I get out of Gotham for my safety as she didn't trust the police or vigilantes and she couldn't leave as she is still on probation and since most superheroes worked on the two coasts, i figured more inland of the U.S. was better", Jason states. He found out that Ma Gunn who tried to rob like a museum or something with him and a bunch of orphans was his actual paternal grandmother and he did stop in Gotham to talk with her before deciding to leave, which she agreed with but not before telling him of his cousin, Faye Gunn.

"OK", the mother says, 'Probation?', "you'll still be going to school right, since your only 16?"

"Yes", Jason replied. He was trying for a more normal life now and that included the terror known as high school.

"Well the school year is over but registration is going on for the next year.", the daughter informs, "It will be my senior year."

"Well we can do that with you tomorrow", the mother says before she exclaimed, "Oh, I just realized that we were never introduced!"

"I'm... Daniel Gunn," Jason states, "people call me Danny".

"Well This is my daughter Jazz, I'm Maddie, and this is my husband-", Maddie says before being cut off.

"I'M JACK FENTON!!", he screamed with a wide smile and and wide eyes, looking kinda crazy

"...We're the Fenton Family", she finished with Jazz facepalming at her father's antics.

"Um", Jason began", So how much is the room again?".

"Oh, it's for free, we just wanted more company in the house", Maddie explained with a smile.

"Oh, OK then", Jason says a little surprised and worried before settling on that they're weird people and he can deal with it.

Jazz was the the one to take Jason to his room across from hers. It was a simple room, painted blue and white with a twin mattress bed and basic side table, closet, shelves, and desk.

"Thanks", Jason says to Jazz as he put his duffle bag on the his new bed.

"It's not a problem", Jazz replied, hanging by the door with her arms crossed.

"Anything you to tell me", Jason asked as he looked at the redhead teenager.

"My parents are weird compared to the average people, they study and hunt ghosts", Jazz explained.

"Jazz, we live in a world with Superpowers, Aliens, and magic. Are Ghosts really that weird in comparison?", Jason states with a raised eyebrow, looking at her like she is the weird one.

"Uh, well, I mean compared to everyone in town and in the 20 years they've been looking they've never once seen a ghost", Jazz replies with a little uppity flair.

"Not even the Gentleman Ghost, the literal phantom thief supervillain?", Jason inquired.

"Nope, which just make it worse as they are so focused on it they ignore the rest of the world", Jazz continued with her head resting in her hands.

Jason soon realized that maybe the Fenton parents are responsible for child neglect, though not intentionally and they still acknowledge her, they were so focused on there passions they forget to interact with their daughter on occasion. Jason soon figure that the company Maddie wanted in the house was for her daughter.

"Kids, Dinner will be ready soon", Jack called up the stairs to them. Jazz then left down the stairs.

Jason decided to quickly empty his bag into the proper locations. His bag is full of stuff that he got from Talia. Clothes, cell phone with accessories, laptop and accessories, some other gear, and a lot of money.

Clothes were quickly put in the closet. The phone, it's charger, headphones, and other stuff were put into the bed's side table. His laptop and stuff was put on the desk. He stored the gear hidden under the bed for now. The money he kept in the bag for now. He then head downstairs to see what they had for dinner.

The Next Day

Jason was now heading to the school with Maddie and Jazz to register, while Jack stayed at Fenton Works to in fix up their family vehicle, something called the GAV.

The trio arrived at the school, Casper High School. It was reddish brown bricks with white accents. From what Jason figured the School was near the center/edge of the town with a wide open space around it. With sports grounds behind it.

The trio walk into the building and head to the registration area.

Jazz and Jason fill out their paperwork for school quickly, with Jason using his Danny Gunn alias and info before they head out again.

Jason though, comes across a blonde jock picking on a young dark skinned kid wearing a red beret.

"Come on Dash, can't you wait to mess with me till school starts?", The red beret whined to the Blonde Jock named Dash. Dash pulled the beret over the guy's face with a laugh.

"Fraid I have to take every chance I get, Foley", Dash says while grinding his fist into his palm.

Jason is soon between the two teens, "Hey", staring into Dash's eyes with a dead expression.

Dash paused before going with his usual schtick, "Oh, and what do you want?".

"Leave him alone and I leave you alone", Jason replied. Dash didn't seem to like that and went to grab Jason's shirt collar, but Jason grabbed his right hand, going for the thumb and twisting, straightening Dash's arm and sending him down to his knees.

"Now, you seem to be a football player and maybe even the star quarterback, so we wouldn't want to injure your arm, especially if it doesn't heal in time to play", Jason states, not moving at all as Dash struggles.

Jason releases him before they draw attention, with Dash stumbling a little. Foley, Dash's victim, is only looking on with wide eyes.

Dash looks ready to act again but a goth chick appears, "Backaway Dash, no one wants any problems right now nor detentions before school even starts".

Dash tsked but leaves to his fellow jocks in the distance.

Jason looks to the beret boy and goth girl, as they looked back to him.

"Hello", the girl said," I'm Sam and this is Tucker, thanks for helping him out."

"Danny Gunn", Jason introduces himself with a hand wave, "nice to meet you two"

"You too", they say.

"You should know, he's actually on all sports teams at this school", Tucker informs.

"What? The jock? Seriously?" Jason asked with a raised eyebrow, surprised that one person would do so much, before remembering Bruce doing to much and still going.

"Yeah. Dash is a try hard", Sam says, "But it made him the most popular and beloved boy in school, the teachers turn a blind eye due to his sports achievements so be careful when confronting him".

"Alright, thanks for the heads up", Jason replied.

"Daniel, We're leaving now", called out Madeline from aways away, with Jazz right next to her, looking a little down.

"Alright, Mrs Fenton", he called back while raising his hand to them. He looked to Sam and Tucker and said, "see you two some other time".

"You can meet us at Nasty Burger for lunch tomorrow", Tucker called out as Jason jogged to the Fenton ladies, with Sam seeming to roll her eyes.

"Alright, Tucker, see you at Nasty Burger.", Jason replied.

Jason and the two Fentons make it back to the house back to the house, with Jason informing Jack and Maddie that he'll be at Nasty Burger so they know where he is.

A Month Later

It's been a little over a month since Jason has moved to Amity Park, bonding with the Fenton Family and becoming best friends with Sam and Tucker.

Jack and Maddie had just shown him the Ghost Portal that they've been working on, how it's connected to the Ghost Zone, an infinite dimension that ghosts call home. Both seemed rather excited, as it's something they've been working on since they first met.

However, when they plugged it in to activate, it sparked but didn't turn on. The Fenton ghost hunters were distraught and left their lab. Jason's two best friends came to the lab and he told them what had happened.

"Man, that sucks. Mr and Mrs Fenton have been working on this for so long just for it to not work.", Tucker says as he scopes out the portal device, typing away on his PDA. Sam was looking at the white board that explained the basics of the portal. With Jason looking between them.

"Yeah, it's their life's work from what I know, they're so down about it they just quit", Jason says.

"Damn", Sam says, looking to him.

She looks to the device before she gets an idea.

"Hey Danny, why don't we see what's wrong with the Ghost Portal?", Sam states aloud, drawing the two boys' attention.

"Are serious?", Tucker whines loudly, "We're just high school students and they're genius scientists and inventors. What can we do that they can't?"

"I'm not saying we make it work, just see if we can find a mistake", Sam replied to the techno-geek.

"*sigh* Alright, I'll look in the funnel of it for anything, you two can check the power output at the console", Jason replies, preparing to go in.

"Should you wear one of these", Sam asked holding up one of the spandex jumpsuits that the Fenton's had. This one was Mostly White with a Black collar area, with Jack's face on it's chest.

"*Sigh*", Jason sighs, before going to put it on. First he takes of the face of Jack, like it was a sticker or something. Putting on the suit, he also put on a pair of rubber like black boots and rubbery black gloves. He also buts on a black utility belt.

"Happy?", Jason asked Sam, who was really staring at him.

"Huh, Yeah", she replied absentmindedly, still staring.

Jason then goes into the portal's vortex while Tucker was checking over the console.

He walks in and looks around the technologic wonder. It reminded him of the Zeta-Tubes that the League and the Team use.

The groove of the portal caused Jason to nearly trip, with him steadying himself onto the side. he hears a whirl sound and looks to where he put his hand, only to see that there as an "On and Off" switch inside instead of outside of the machine.

'Seriously, Jack', Jason thought before a green flash happened. He screamed as he felt energy course through him. His hair turning white with the jumpsuit colors being inverted from white and black to black and white.

He stumbled out of the now active Ghost Portal and woozily fell to the ground.

"Danny!", Sam and Tucker call out, racing to his side.

"Wha...?", Jason mutters as he opened his eyes to reveal glowing green irises.

"Danny, are you OK? Do we need to call the hospital or something?", Sam asked, worried about his health and freaked out, along with Tucker, by his changed appearance.

"I'm... fine.", Jason replies before getting up and begins to walk for the stairs to the house but walks through a desk instead of bumping into it.

"Dude!", Tucker called out. Both he and Sam are now wide-eyed.

"Huh?", Jason sounds out.

"You just walked through the desk", Sam says

Jason between the desk that he unknowingly went through and his two friends. He then rushed to the sink and mirror in the corner. He sees his new appearance before his hands begin to sink into the sink and his feet into the floor. He moves back but ends up floating in the air.

"Whoa", Jason exclaims, waving his arms about.

"Danny!", Tucker calls out and goes to help him along with Sam. But before they can reach him he disappears from their view.

"Danny?", Sam calls out, looking around for him, "Where are you".

"Right here", he says grabbing Tucker's hat. The two then grab hold of him to make sure he doesn't fly away before he suddenly stops floating and falls down, nearly taking the two with him. he soon becomes visible to their eyes again as he groans from the surprised fall.

"Dude, I think the portal gave you ghost powers!", Tucker excitedly exclaimed.

Sam helped Jason to his feet as he sarcastically replied, "Really? The intangibility, invisibility, and flight didn't give it away Tuck?"

"Danny? Shouldn't we tell the Fentons what happened?", Sam asked as she looked over him for injuries.

"No", Jason quickly states, looking around for cameras or the ghost hunters in a slight panic.

"What? Why?", Sam asked, still worried for him.

"Cause their ghost hunters and i'm now ghostly Sam.", Jason replied, "Jack has repeatedly said he will rip apart a ghost molecule by molecule and Maddie has talked about dissections".

"Yeeeaaahhh", Sam and Tucker drew out as they though about it. The ghost hunter duo may not know Jason enough not to immediately do that.

"But what are you going to do so they don't find out?", Tucker asks, "I mean your look alone."

"First I get out of this jumpsuit, while you two get hair dye and color contacts or something", Jason says. But before they could do any of that, they hear something.

"Danny!" A voice called out from up stairs.

The trio look to the stairs in a panic.

Suddenly, a white ring appears around Jason before going over his body like a scanner, turning his appearance back to normal. White hair was black again, green eyes were blue once more, and the black and white jumpsuit became the gaudier white and black.

Jason quickly took the jumpsuit and stuff off, quickly being in his normal clothes again as someone was coming down the steps.

Jack enter the lab to see the trio of friends that frequent his house now, looking pretty casual.

"Ah, there you are Danny, we were about to talk about what's for din...", Jack stopped as he saw that the Ghost Portal he thought he failed at was operational.

"MADDIE!!", Jack yelled, racing up the steps.

The trio waited before hearing a, "WHAT??!!", before two sets of feet came rushing down.

Jack and Maddie Fenton see the Ghost Portal, staring for a minute or two before cheering.

"YEAH!!", "WOOO!", Maddie and Jack cheer respectively, ecstatic to see their portal working.

"But why is it working now and not earlier?", Maddie questions, before looking to the teens in their lab.

"Um?", Sam and Tucker grumble while trying to think of what to say. Luckily for them, Jason did.

"We saw that the On/Off switch was on the inside. Tucker unplugged it and I turned it on before re-plugged it and this happened", Jason informed.

Maddie quickly smacked Jack on the back of his head, as she also knew it was his blunder. Resulting in Jack sheepishly rubbing the back of his head while also rubbing on his injury.

"Why didn't you come and tell us before hand then?", Maddie continued.

"You were so down the first time when it didn't work, none of us wanted to get your hopes up if it still didn't work.", Jason replied, with Sam and Tucker nodding along.

"THANK YOU!", Jack yelled before scooping the three in for a hug before quickly dropping them to further investigate the portal.

"Thanks Danny, Sam, and Tucker", Maddie says before going to help Jack to make sure it actually was a portal and not just a fancy light show.

The trio quickly got out of the lab, up the stairs. They breathed a sigh of relief before Jason went invisible then visible again.

"Well, I'm still ghostly.", Jason says to the two, with him worrying about the Ghost Portal
