Chapter 1
Rias stared at the boy, a human, her brother had brought into her room. His eyes (as dark as his hair) and uncaring stare made him look scary despite his short stature, yet he held not an inch of magical power within him.
Was this boy truly to become the first member of her peerage?
"Go ahead, little guy. Say hello to your new King." Sirzech urged, yet not even a breath left his lips. The Satan chuckled good-naturedly as he tried reassuring her, "Sorry, Rias. This one is not very talkative."
Rias decided that was fine. Her brother was an idiot, but she knew he wouldn't give her anything but the best. If he chose this boy as her first peerage member, then it meant he was worthy of being in her peerage and that's all she needed to know.
And if there was something wrong with him, then Rias promised to do everything in her power to help her new family, like a Gremory should.
"Are you ready, Rias?" The girl nodded without hesitation and mentally allowed her Evil Pieces to appear next to her. "Now remember, Rias: always pick the piece that best fits their attributes. For this little guy, he doesn't have much when it comes to magic, nor is he particularly strong. However, his abilities make him very special. It's a power that can be complemented with speed or strength when promoted, which means-"
"A pawn!" The girl exclaimed excitedly, reigning in her childish instincts not long after. This was no game. This moment would be one of the biggest in her life, but that didn't mean her mother's teachings on etiquette should go ignored.
"That's correct, my sweet little sister! Now, the next part is all you. Remember, exactly as we practiced, okay?" Rias nods, taking the needed piece from the board and turning back to the waiting boy.
This was it.
She was about to have her first peerage member! The first member of a family she could personally raise. A family that would be loyal to her, and only her. A family she could love with all her heart and get that same in return.
Taking a deep breath, she held out the pawn piece in front of the boy and made sure to look directly into those empty eyes. The words she would chant next would, hopefully, stick with the boy for as long as they lived.
"With this piece, you will not become my servant, but my family. As my family, I swear to love and protect you till the end of time. This, I swear on my name and House Gremory."
With that, she allowed the evil piece to float towards the boy and enter his chest. A light faintly shined as the evil piece began its attempt to merge with his body.
To her momentary confusion, the peace returned to normal and fell uselessly to the floor.
"Oh my. It seems your new friend is a lot stronger than what a single Pawn Piece can offer." Her brother commented, causing Rias to stare at the boy with more respect than she embarrassedly hadn't before. Floating three Pawn Piece in front of her, she repeated her earlier actions, only for a repeat of before to occur. Turns out, the Pawn pieces, no matter how many she used, were just not strong enough to hold the power this boy apparently had—something that awed her, and from what she could tell, her brother as well.
If her pawn pieces didn't work, then there was only one piece she could think of worthy of fitting his power. She had hoped not to use this piece so early, but it would seem her brother has truly brought her someone special. Looking at her brother, his smile reassured her of her decision, and she quickly reached for the Queen piece to recite her speech. Once again, the evil piece disappeared into the boy.
Unlike the Pawn, the Queen's glow was much brighter. Rias wasn't sure if that was natural for pieces, but it sure did make the ritual a lot flashier than she thought necessary.
But alas, just like the Pawn before it, the Queen also hit the ground.
Correction, it didn't just hit the ground but was launched across the room as if being in the boy's body was akin to putting one's hand in acid.
Looking at her downed Queen piece, Rias immediately felt something stir within her, even as her brother knelt down with that stupid smile that always made her feel better.
She heard her brother speaking but didn't compute—understanding what it meant when pieces failed without her brother trying to sugarcoat it. The weight of failure boar down on her heavily, and she could feel the beginning of tears starting to-
A light suddenly had her turning. Further into her room, the boy (when had he moved) was now holding the Queen that had not long ago rejected him.
That same queen now shined with an even brighter light than before in the boy's hand, and she would swear on her life that the black piece turned white before it melded into his hand and the light became bright enough to hurt her eyes.
When it finally dimmed down, Rias and Sirzech were able to see the boy once again. He looked the same as when he first was introduced, but Rias could feel a clear difference about him. His power was still nonexistent to her senses, but the unmistakable connection they now held was apparent.
Then he turned and looked right at her for what felt like the first time. Rias honestly didn't know whether to be in awe or terrified.
[What limits?]

Present Day
"...I suppose you know why I've called you here."
Sona Sitri looked up from her intertwined fingers to give a stern look to the redhead sitting on the other side of her desk. The girl she called 'best friend' did not cower in her presence. Instead, she looked resigned, as if she already knew this conversation was coming.
"What has he done now?"
Sona shook her head.
"He has done many things, Rias. But for the sake of time and since the number of complaints I have in this school year alone is more than I can count on all my peerage's fingers, I'm simply going to list off his most recent offenses."
Reaching into her desk, she pulled out a stack of papers. Pushing up her glasses, she found the appropriate lines and began reading aloud.
"September 13th: a day before midterms, he replaced all the answers for the test with popular manga protagonist."
Rias raised an incredulous brow.
"Can you prove that?"
"The last question on the test asked what was Newton's First Law, to which your Queen's name was the only answer available; in bracketed, bold letters."
"Sounds to me like my Queen was the target of a harmless prank. Nothing more."
Sona stared at her best friend flatly before returning her gaze back to the papers.
"September 20th: seemingly over night, every skirt in Kuoh Academy was 3 inches shorter while the male shirts vanished all together and their pants were all replaced with... shorts. Short shorts. Many students called out that day; the teachers gave multiple students detention before they even knew what was going on; and many girls were said to have been catcalled on their way to school. If not bad enough, the emergency supply of uniforms we had in stock had suspiciously vanished as well."
"And what does any of that have to do with my Queen? If memory serves me well, he was also a victim of whoever perpetrated such a scheme."
"Maybe, but unlike most of the male students, he actually came to school wearing the modified uniform and shorts so short I refuse to call them such. It did not help his case when he began selling school uniforms the next morning."
"Some would say he was being considerate..."
"And I can assure you, none of those sayers were Kuoh Academy students or staff... Lastly, on September 28th: he has been found peeping on the kendo girls with the perverted trio not once, not even twice, but on five separate occasions this month."
"He was simply in the vicinity of the perverted trio at the time—reading manga, no less. My Queen is a lot of things, but a pervert is not one of them."
"He groped you in front of half the student body."
The Gremory lifted a finger to continue her Queen's defense, but slowly lowered it. In his defense, rumors were spreading of she and her queen being in more than a simple 'relationship' since someone in the student body caught him walking from her apartment not long before. It did not help that, being her Queen, they were nearly at the hip every day.
Of course, she saw nothing wrong with such rumors, nor were the rest of her peerage particularly bothered by them, but no matter how much any of them refuted such claims, the rumors never stopped.
So, in a tactless retaliation, he appeared before her at the gates of Kuoh and, as Sona so elegantly put it, groped her in front of half the student body.
'They're as soft as Issei said they'd be' was the last thing anyone heard from his 'happy-go-lucky' mouth before she instinctively slapped him across the yard.
Granted, it fixed the rumors like they'd wanted, but since then, her queen has not walked with her and her peerage to school and has only appeared before her in the Occult Research Club or when summoned. His name had become even more infamous than that of the perverted trio, which also earned him the title of the 'biggest loser of Kuoh Academy'.
"Ok, you got me there."
Sona let out a sigh, lifting her glasses to massage the bridge of her nose.
"Look, Rias. I know how 'unique' the situation is with your Queen. I also know you are willing to go to the underworld and back for your peerage and the trouble he is causing isn't necessarily anything that cannot be swept under the rug or erased from a few memories. But by the Satans, I'm at my wits end here. I understand that he's 'entertaining' himself, as you like to use as a defense. However, that does not change the fact that it is ultimately the student council and staff that get brought down every time we let his actions slide. We are already putting up with the perverted trio for your sake, so, as your friend, I ask that you at least be considerate enough to keep your Queen under control."
"...Do I really have to?" The redhead pouted.
"Rias, you are my friend. My best friend. But if this problem isn't solved by tonight, then I will personally go to Sirzech-sama."
"You wouldn't."
"You, of all people, should know I keep my word."
Rias slumped in her seat, dreading the confrontation that seemed to be inevitable.
...
Late that same day, Rias could be found making her way towards the Occult Research Club. All students were now either heading home or were there already along with the staff and her peerage. Typically, she would have no reason to be back here without her peerage or Sona waiting on her, but today was special.
Because someone even more special was behind the door she now stood before.
Breathing deep, she resolved herself for the discussion that would be had and pushed the double doors open into the Occult Research Club.
Soft lights that barely lit the room were what she was greeted with. Three candles on a table in the middle of the room barely illuminated the space for a normal human but were enough for the eyes of the devil walking into it.
The same devil that now looked to her desk to see the prone form of her Queen reading one of her favorite mangas without a care in the world.
Two black orbs turned her way.
A smile all too familiar split her Queen's face, and Rias did her damnedest to keep her heart steady.
[If it isn't my favorite King in the underworld.]
Satan's mercy, even his voice made her pulse jump.
"Technically speaking, I am your only King." Rias replied jokingly, closing the double doors behind her and stepping further into the room.
[True, and as your loyal Queen, I believe I should warn you to refrain from inviting innocent youths such as myself to remote areas at such hours in the day. We wouldn't want rumors spreading about your 'relationships' again, would we?]
"Well, that's the great thing about being a King," Reaching her Queen's side, she sat at the edge just above his head and looked down at him with a sultry smile. "My subjects get no say in who I decide to lay with."
Her Queen blinked up at her with that same smile she found goofy before apparent realization appeared in his eyes.
[Ah, I know what this is! This is one of those moments where the protagonist is supposed to say something manly that will lead to us making doughy eyes at each other and possibly lead to the love ark of this manga, isnt it?] The Queen suddenly sat up, clapped his face, and looked to Rias with a new-found determination. [Ok! Let's rewind back a bit! I swear I got it this time!]
Rias's sigh was audible. Once again, whatever atmosphere she was trying to build completely goes out the window when dealing with her Queen.
"How about we get to the reason I called you here instead?"
A pout replaced the trademark smile.
[Aaaaaaaw, that's no fun at all.]
"Actually, 'fun' is an adequate way of explaining why you're here... and not in the literal sense." Rias quickly added before her Queen could even attempt to twist her words. "Your behavior as of late has been, troubling. Sona has displayed her displeasure, and, as her friend, it is my job to fix the situation before she takes matters into her own hands. Sooner or later, the Devils employed will start to report back home... And I hope I don't need to explain how that will look."
[Ah, so this is about politics.] The Queen stated, not looking the least bit remorseful or interested.
"It's more than just politics. You are the Queen of my peerage, but you are also a part of the Occult Research Club. If you act out, then that doesn't reflect on just you, but everyone in the club. And any of us coming to your defense would mean we condone such acts."
[Oh! If that's what you're worried about, we can just wipe their memories! Maybe even do it the old-fashioned way and bonk them all over the head! That way, the damage is more permanent, and you get no negative press since there's no proof! See? Sweet and easy!]
Rias rubbed her eyes in frustration.
"That's not the point. It's about authority. When you carelessly disregard rules and order, the ones who put them in place become agitated. This may be my territory, but that does not mean I can overlook problems, especially when they're within my own peerage. Reputation may not mean much to you, but as the heiress of House Gremory, it is everything to me."
Her Queen tilted his head, confusion evident in his features.
He understood.
He always understood.
But this was all simply a game for him. A way to pass the time until something eventually took his interest. That's all this has ever been for him, even when they were kids. It was a quirk that Rias, nor anybody else, had yet to break.
And how could they when he was potentially stronger than her entire peerage combined?
Resigned, Rias pushed herself off the desk and repositioned herself to stand in front of her Queen. A hand reached out to grab his own, the other coming to sandwich the limb between her own.
"Look. Just, dumb your antics down a bit. Or if at all possible, leave the Kuoh students and staff out of it. If this goes on, you'll no longer be hurting just yourself. I can't keep defending you if you refuse to listen to me."
For the first time in their conversation, her Queen's expression was clear of emotion.
[Is that an order?]
Rias felt a chill run up her spine.
"...You and I both know I would never give you orders." More like, she couldn't, but she saw no need to state the obvious. They'd been down that road already, and Rias had learned her lesson. "I'm asking you. Not as your King, but as your friend. Please, do this one thing for me?"
Her Queen's expression remained unmoved for a while, and Rias momentarily thought he would deny one of the only requests she's ever asked of him. Then his smile returned, but she didn't allow herself to feel relieved until the acceptance left his mouth.
[Then I shall do as my friend asks!] Rias felt a breath she didn't know she was holding return. [Starting tomorrow, Kumagawa Misogi is a changed man! I will be a completely normal high school student and will no longer inconvenience the students and staff of Kuoh academy!]
Rias caught on to his specifications but put a smile on her face nonetheless.
"That is all I ask."
[But for today, we must hurry home. It just so happens that I stopped by Mugiwara before coming here and got your favorite~!]
All thoughts left the redhead to be replaced with childish joy as her Queen pulled out a particular masterpiece from his uniform.
"The latest addition?!"
[The latest addition!]
Rias hopped and clapped in jittery joy before grabbing her Queen by the arm and instantly teleporting them to her apartment. Together, they enjoyed watching their favorite animated series till morning, where they would fall asleep and completely miss the next school day.
Ironically, despite her Queen's new vow, both missing school that day and returning the next without a word caused more rumors and distain towards her Queen than before, along with new stories and speculation.
None of this mattered to Rias, however.
How could she even pretend to care when she spent an entire night and day doing the things she loved with the boy she loves?
A/N: Wrote this a year ago and never had the guts to post it till now. As of now, this is but a one shot, but if people like it enough, I'll continue it.
It's absolutely criminal on the lack of Medoka box Fanfiction around here. Sure, it may not have had the best ending or series after the Kumagawa ark, butncome ON! NO ONE knows of this gem?! If I have to break that cycle, then I guess I'll just have to break that cycle!
Kumagawa Misogi is by far my favorite antagonist to this day. His powers are absolutely bullshit, but became more or less bullshit by the end of the manga. However, he is the most relatable antagonist I've ever seen written on paper no matter how much I wanted I'ma dead I'ma the manga lol. Sadly, the Anime was never continued, but I can still hope and pray they at least finish the Kumagawa ark :').
If this story were to continue, then we would follow Misogi Kumagawa, the ultimate content creator. It wouldn't last longer than 100K words, but I definitely have fun writing it.
Hope y'all enjoyed this and hope others are interested in it!
