Four years had passed since the outbreak that ended the world as we know it, Luna Loud alone taking care of her now five years old sister, Lily Loud, after the others disappeared, Walking down the motorway south, away from home, away into the unknown other survivors called the frontier, the unknown, the abyss.

Now aged 20, Luna had endured pain, emotionally and physically abused by the harsh world. She saw people ripped apart by the ravenous beasts that slept all day and screamed the whole night.

"Luna can we stop for a bit, I'm hungry," Lily said as her stomach grumbles. Tired all of them were, they had walked since the sun rose up till the sky turned gold.

"Just a bit more sis, we're almost there," Luna replied as she wiped the sweat off of her forehead, they had walk for too long, their supplies are dwindling and their target is still far away.

"fine," Lily pouted her mouth into a duck's beak.

Their long walk ended with the two breaking inside a deserted petrol station, barren it was, looted to hell and occupied by empty boxes and old bulletin. No food, no medicine, no nothing, just an empty petrol station with knee worth of dust and overgrown weed. Luna with her gun out swung open a door behind the counter decorated with dirt, an empty back office with a broken computer and more boxes.

"We should be safe here for tonight," Luna said as she played with the doorknob, testing the lock.

"Can we eat now Lunes, I'm hungry," Lily asked as she laid down her blue backpack on the counter.

Luna smiled as she laid her beige rucksack on the same counter, opening it her colours faded, only one can of beans left, she sighed, she hasn't eaten for two days now, but she knew that Lily needed it more. "Here you go Lils," Luna said as she passed the 14 ounces can of beans, Lily took the can and ripped the top open by pulling the loop.

"Thanks, Luna," Lily replied with a smile stretched on her face, "Don't you want some?" Lily asked as she saw Luna closing her sack.

"No thanks Lily, I'm not too hungry," Luna replied as she saddled the rucksack on her shoulders.

"Is this the last can Luna?" Lily asked as she saw Luna's hectic behaviour. "Luna, is this the last can?"

"Yeah," Luna answered with her face looking down.

"Luna come on, let's share," Lily said as she hands her older sister the can.

"You need it more than me," Luna replied as she walked to the shelves littering the old petrol station.

"I'm not eating then," Lily said as she pushed the can further away from her.

"Come on, don't do this to me Lils," Luna sighed. "Please, you need to eat,"

"Not until you eat," Lily countered the protest her sister voiced. "Please Luna, I can't carry you on my back,"

"Okay, okay," Luna replied as she pushed a spoonful of baked beans into her mouth, "There, now eat,"

"You need to eat more," Lily added.

"Not today, I'm on a diet," Luna said as she pushed one of the shelves to block the wide windows overviewing the pumps. The ear-bleeding noise of rusted metal against tiles blared through the enclosed space, prompting Lily to block her ears with her palms. "God that's heavy,"

The evening grew darker as the moon rose into her spot above the earth, and as the darkness consume the light, the dead screamed, the ravenous beasts that destroyed the civilised world in a week. Luna and Lily sat inside the back office on their sleeping bags. Scared, Lily hugged Luna's arm, fearing for their lives, like every other night they cower together. The monsters outside screamed all night, baiting unweary survivors to their brutal demise. Their crying and screaming, mimicking the cry for help, mocking the living.

Lily was shaken, and started to weep, crying herself to sleep in Luna's hug. "Shhhh, it's okay," Luna said to the scared little girl, she tried to plug Lily's ears with music to filter the traumatising weeps of the dead, but no the MP3 player ran out of batteries, and the world doesn't shit out double A's anymore. In the cold darkness, they slept for tomorrow the journey continues.

As the two drift away to sleep on the river of Dream, a nightmare in the form of automatic gunfire rang outside, throwing the two back into reality, the harsh unforgiving reality. "Oh shit," Luna said as she pulled her gun out. "Stay down," Luna told Lily as she slowly walked over to the door. Pulling the door open she saw muzzle flashes outside, three maybe more people, packing military rifles, slowly heading towards the station.

"Oh shit, Lily hide," Luna exclaimed as she closed the door. "There are some people outside,"

"Oh no, where do we go, it's night?" Lily panicked.

"Hide there," Luna pointed at the wooden table holding the broken computer, "Go now!"

As the footsteps grew nearer and nearer, Luna stood up with her gun aimed at the door, not a minute passed and the door swung open, a huge rifle aimed in between Luna's eyes, "Put the gun down," the figure ordered Luna on gunpoint. Luna wasn't having any of it though, with balls of steel she said, "I'll put it down when I'm dead,"

"Ballsy eh," The figure said as he hits Luna's face with the gun's stock, causing her to fall to the ground, "Are you alone?" the figure asked as he pointed with his eyes the two sleeping bags laying on the floor.

"I'm alone," Luna replied, "I'm a rough sleeper,"

"Sure you are," the man nodded as he grabs Luna by her collar, and that made Lily jump in terror.

"No!" Lily jumped and hugged Luna.

"You said you were alone," the man said in an angered tone.

"Hey Jim, you got anything?" another figure came, the voice sounded feminine and calm, a complete 180 degrees from the first figure one could only describe as a man or, Jim. "Holy shit man, put your gun down," the other figure said as he or she pushed the first figure's gun away from the two Loud kids.

As the gunfire and the screaming fade away, the Loud duo met three people, a dark-skinned female, age ranging from 30 to 37, the first figure or Jim, and an Asian man with a light moustache on his face. "Sorry if Jim was a bit aggressive," the woman said as she pulled Luna up.

No reply, weary of the three people Luna just stared back with one hand holding Lily behind her.

"Is that your daughter?" the woman asked again.

No escape from this, Luna nodded and said, "yes, her name's Jenny,"

"beautiful name Jenny, I'm Brenda," the woman said as she bowed to look at Lily's face.

"Hi," Lily answered.

"How 'bout you, what's your name?" Brenda asked Luna.

"Jesse," Luna stuttered.

"So Jenny and Jesse, cute," Brenda commented. "Where are you both heading?"

"Nowhere," Luna answered.
