It was pushing past 6 and Tory glanced at the clock to confirm it. She knew her father would make an entrance soon and that brought a smile to her face. She had asked him to bring back some of Mark's special garlic bread and he'd promised in the morning.
If it was one thing that Tory loved the most from her father's restaurant apart from the exquisite Italian delicacies, was Mark's garlic bread! While her father had been affronted that she liked Mark's garlic bread better than the ones he baked for her, she had capitulated him by saying that she likes everything he cooks more than anyone's cooking, even her mom's and that seemed to have satisfied Damon.
She heard her father's car in the drive way and she dashed down running from the first floor, where she was sitting in the passage by the bannisters; her favourite spot to read and immediately into her father's arms just as he hung his keys on the key holder by the door.
"Oomf! You're getting heavier kid!" Damon said, gaining his footing again after stumbling a couple steps back, while managing the paper bags in one hand and his laptop in the other, and trying to hug back Tory. This was their routine.
"Well, stop making all that tasty ravioli and I won't," replied Tory while quickly snatching the paper bag from her father's hand that supposedly contained her favorite item.
"There's some spaghetti in there too for Clover, please share the bread with her, you know I hate it when you two fight."
"Yeah yeah I will," mumbling through big bites of garlic bread that she had already torn into.
"Tory, hey, please stop…. keep some for your sister. Speaking of her, where is she? Clover!" He called out to his younger progeny.
"Not home," Tory said, still showing no signs of slowing down and gulped down a big chunk in her mouth to speak clearly, "she is with mom."
"Huh. She came in early today? She said it'll be late…"
"Yeah, but then April said she needed to go home early and you know that mom can't function without April so she called in the urgent ones and then she postponed some of her lesser urgent appointments for tomorrow," replied Tory while ripping into another piece.
"That explains it. So she took Clover to the park?" Damon had shifted to get himself a soda from the refrigerator and kept interrogating Tory while she sat at the stools by the kitchen counter. He massaged his neck that was causing him frequent problems, mentally reminding himself to exercise more and roam around when he was not cooking in his restaurant.
Damon's restaurant 'Starlight' was one of the finest spots in all the nearby towns surrounding Mystic Falls. It had taken Damon a lot of long working hours to make it one of the finest and given his big ego, seldom shied away from proclaiming that it was indeed one of the finest restaurants.
"Your mom say when she'll be returning?" Damon joined his daughter on one of the stools, now sipping on his soda and relaxing after a long day.
Tory hid her smirk with her palm, seemingly trying not to make it evident but she enjoyed how restless her father got without her mother. Damon always wanted to be home by the time Elena got back from her clinic and the fact wasn't missed by their daughters.
At 14, Tory was pretty perceptive and the fact that her parents always didn't live together as a couple helped her grow beyond the years. She often joked that they'd have to pay for her therapy and apologized every time she saw their faces fall and that only led them to apologize to her profusely in return, stating how they should've thought about her before themselves and the whole ordeal.
"Yeah, she said she will take Clover for her playdate and be back around 8 for dinner," Tory further stifled her laugh at her father's grimace, knowing that he was looking forward to seeing her mother sooner and decided to end the façade and spoke up, "Chill dad, she'll be here soon. She left around 4:30 and knowing Clover, she'll be yelling for food soon so they should be back soo.."
She didn't get to finish her sentence as her she heard her 4-year-old sister all the way from the drive way, "…. no mommy, I told Stella that she can only play with my castle set if she would share her barbie with me but she don't want to do that…"
Elena walked in with her 4-year old in tow and beamed seeing her husband and daughter by the counter. She immediately kissed Tory's head before moving on to taking Damon's lips in a sweet kiss, keeping it PG for the kids' sake and laid down the groceries on the counter. Damon however didn't stop from grabbing her waist and pulling her in for another kiss, smirking, letting go her lips and leaving her dazed; a quite promise for a lot more later that night.
Elena got her bearings straight and moved out to take off Clover's coat before she could jump into her father's arms and throw a tantrum. Damon stooped down to pick up Clover and smacked a kiss on her cheeks that made the little girl giggle. They settled down on the counter listening to Clover chatter on about her day and waiting for Tory to share the garlic bread that were close to finished.
Tory loved her family. All of them. Even more so now that there was going to be an addition soon. She didn't miss how her father now held her mother close to him as they both leaned against the platform, listening to her little sister babble on.
Elena was in Damon's arms, completely content with her day and even more so now that he held her close to his chest. His hand caressed her palpably protruding belly and he slipped an occasional kiss to her cheek. She was content with her life all over. After a few turbulent years before and after Tory's birth, she could say they all were in a good place now.
Damon loved Elena more than anything and a blind man could vouch for. He loved his family. Something he and Elena created for themselves. He even loved how Stefan's life had turned out and more so that his kids were best friends with his brother's kids.
Damon stood there with his wife, his life in his arms, listening to their daughters go on about their day and he often felt the need to pinch himself to realize that after his years of epic douchery, he picked himself up and got to live a life like this, filled with happiness and love of his family.
"Okay, dad, I need you to sign on my application for camp. They're taking us hiking this time and Ethan is going too. There is no way I am letting Betty close to him on this trip!"
"Ugh, kiddo you're 14! Don't make me buy a shotgun tomorrow. And btw, that means By the Way, who is Ethan, and why wasn't he mentioned before?" Damon tried to enquire with his stern face and trying to look tough but Tory knew how to play her father and went on to say, "for the same reason mom never mentioned that she will be working over time this weekend."
And her work was done. Damon immediately turned Elena in his arms and frowned at her. Elena sheepishly looked at him but not before throwing a glare at her daughter.
"There is a lot of work at the hospital and the staff is not that competent. It's only this week I promise," Elena tried to bargain with her husband but he was having none of it.
"Uh-uh, Elena, you know what Dr. Fell said. You have to take it easy. It is not going to be an easy pregnancy and you are nearing the 6th month soon baby. Please, you can't…"
"Damon, I'm fine, it's just this weekend.."
"Baby.."
"Damon, no. I said I'll be helping and I have to. Christmas is nearing and some of these patients aren't even from Mystic Falls. They have to get home."
"Fine," Damon sighed and rested his head on his wife's shoulder before looking up with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "You'll have to pay for the extra time you'll be working this weekend," he whispered in her ears, seeing that both their daughters had gone back to chattering amongst each other.
"And how would you like me to pay Mr. Salvatore?" Elena whispered salaciously before taking his earlobe in her mouth and nibbling gently. Damon groaned quietly and ran his palms up and down her sides before whispering again, "I think you know exactly how Mrs. Salvatore."
They occasionally spared glances to their daughters. Clover had somehow managed to produce her drawing book and had starting scribbling with crayons while Tory was into the latest issue of Vogue sitting on the table, brought by Elena.
"Ok, before we forget that there are kids here, I actually needed to talk to you."
"Shoot."
"Stefan and Care are coming over the weekend to drop Alex and Mia as they are visiting Bill in LA. He is not keeping well and Care thought she'd visit him since it's been long."
"That'd be great, then we'll have some Damon and Elena time in hands given the kids will be busy within themselves."
"I like how your mind works Mr. Salvatore"
"Just my mind?… I think there are some other organs you love more than my mind, wouldn't you agree?
Elena was breathing heavily by then as Damon's palm rested on her ass while the other was edging pretty close to the side of her breast and she couldn't wait for night to fall soon so she decided to take some quality time with her husband. Stat.
"Damon.." she moaned his name and surreptitiously pulled him up to their master bed seeing that the kids are full and wouldn't remember their parents until dinner.
Damon shut the door to their bedroom but let the lights stay dimmed and for a moment they just stood there, admiring each other. Elena's palm came up to play with the tiny hair at the nape of his neck while he touched their foreheads and just breathed in the scent that was completely Elena.
Almost 3 decades of knowing each other and couldn't marvel at the wonder that the woman in his arms was. He had been such an ass, the poster boy for immaturity when it came to dealing with his feelings for her and despite of all his indiscretions, he was blessed to have gained her forgiveness and not a day passes by when he doesn't thank the stars for his family. But family, with her. That mattered more.
Elena craned her neck to kiss her husband and he obliged easily, giving in to the passion for each other. He was ravenously hungry by then and Elena was the only being that could fulfil his hunger, leave him satisfied and wanting for more at the same time.
Elena moaned into his mouth as his tongue slipped inside and he angled his head to devour his wife some more. It was all Elena. The Strawberry lip balm, the cottony caresses on his cheeks and the mussed-up hair that Elena's nails artistically designed.
He made a move to take off her clothes and Elena began the process with his, all the while, keeping their eyes attached to each other while stealing kisses between their heavy breathing. Damon reached Elena's bra and he unclasped the hook and dropped it somewhere behind him. Too engrossed by her bosom to look anywhere else. Care about anything else!
He thickly swallowed while reached to palm one of the mounds and went back to kissing his wife. Elena moaned some more in pleasure as he tweaked her nipple and pulled him even closer. After some deep groping, she pulled him with her on the bed and they became a tangle of sweaty bodies, not getting enough skin to touch and wanting everything all at once. It was always like this with them, even when they were in High School, even they got together in New York and now, when they are finally husband and wife, been a married couple for over 4 years. The passion would never wane, because it was fueled by eternal, undying love for one another.
Damon and Elena were just that… tangible love, that they sensed in every look, every breath, every whiff they got of each other's scent. Every caress that leads them into oblivion.
Elena's mouth found his throat and dropped some kisses down his chest and her palm played with his happy trail down to his boxers and palmed his manhood. "God…. Elena…stop.. I want some more time with you…mmmhmm."
"Take all the time you need.." She stared at him, now looking at the wonderful man in her arms as he stared back at her with all the admiration he could muster, looking at her like she were a wondrous creature, and he had the privilege to keep her, worship her and be loved by her.
Damon swooped down once again to kiss her and his other hand caressed her protruding belly and went down to see if she was ready for him. He turned her over and slid inside her from behind and as Elena gasped, he gave her time to adjust to his shaft inside her and began moving. Elena started pistoning her hips the best she could as she tried meeting his thrusts and kissing him by craning her neck at the same time.
One of Damon's hands came up from her belly and kneaded her breast roughly and he picked up his pace. It was something that Damon would never get over. The passion that surfaced only for this woman. Every time. He was insatiable when it came to making love to Elena and she wasn't unfamiliar to the feeling when it keep to her husband either!
She finally climaxed with his name on her lips and Damon followed her soon. They remained connected as they were and Damon moved aside to clean up and came back to spoon her and hold her while she contentedly sighed. "I love you.." They both said at the same time and Damon smiled into the crook of her neck while she giggled, feeling ticklish with the scruff on his cheeks, as his hand made circles around her belly button.
"Round two now or after dinner?" Elena finally asked as she put her palm to scratch his scalp.
"Woman, you may be hormonal but I'm still me and I need some more recovery time!" It was becoming difficult for him to keep up with his wife in her pregnancy and she needed to get off everyday. While he loved to please his wife, his member needed a little rest after their erotic love making session just minutes ago.
She giggled and went to get up but his arm tightened around her. "Damon…" she said in her Damon-specific tone she maintained just for him. "Let me go, the kids will be hungry soon and I don't feel like take out today."
"Stay for a few more minutes and I'll cook. Promise." Elena acquiesced to his request willingly seeing no ill consequence and rested again in her husband's arms which he all too willingly opened for her.
Later that night, after the kids were fed, Elena went back to complete some paperwork for the hospital after Damon insisted on doing the dishes. They got Clover to sleep in but let Tory stay up late, reading her weekly favorite book.
After Damon finished the chore, he went to check in on Tory in her room but seeing it empty, he turned to her next favorite spot- The porch swing but seeing that she wasn't there either, he knew where to look finally and dreaded the same.
Tory was hidden in the store room with a book but instead of this week's favorite, it was an old album, from the time when she, Elena and Matt were a family. He wasn't completely in favour of his daughter remembering the other father figure in her life but knew what must have brought this on and accepted that he didn't get to have a say in this matter after everything he put his wife and little girl through.
It was all his fault and he must live with the consequences!
So you decided to break my trust again?
Elena's words from the night he forever fell in his own eyes still rang through his brain and he mentally shook his head to clear the funk. His daughter needed him right now.
"Hey."
Tory jumped at the sound, being too engrossed in the pictures and said, "dad, you scared me!" seeing her clutch her chest as if she was almost expecting Matt's ghost to come visit brought a smile to his face and sat down next to her on the floor, the album still in her lap.
He saw the picture Tory was looking at and went on, "this was your first day at the pre-school right?" "Uh-huh.."
"I remember that day!" Tory was shocked to learn this detail. "You…. do? How.. mom told you by then?"
"Only recently then but I remember being so torn about what to do. If to see you off on your first day or not. And if I do go, why was a friend of your mom's dropping his friend's daughter off to school when both her parents were already there! So I bailed."
Tory went back to staring at her picture with Matt and Elena at the outside of her pre-school. They had asked the gatekeeper to take the picture as they both crouched down to kiss each of her cheeks, leading to Tory giving out a big squeal. She brushed her thumbs over the photo, just like she did so many times before. Damon knew not to disturb her churning thoughts and kept quite, leaning his head back on one of the cardboard boxes on the shelf.
"You should've come. You were my friend too by then…" it was Damon's turn to be shocked now and he turned to look at her. "You had just recently started coming to see me, I do remember!"
Damon gave out a weak smile and took his daughter in his arms. He knew this time was difficult for her. Though it had been long, it wasn't long enough to get over your grief for someone who you considered your father for such a long time. Tory sniffled slightly and Damon only held on tighter. He knew there was a time he didn't know how to be there for his daughter but it was long gone and now, Tory was not confident in anyone other than Damon to be there for her, without a word said by her.
"I miss him dad. I know you might not want to hear this, but I do miss him. He was dad too…" "Shhhh baby girl I know. You don't have to feel bad for missing him baby. I know how much he meant to you. To the both of you, and there is nothing to be sorry about. He was always there for you. He was…. He… he was Dad too, I know… I know… shh.."
Tory simply clutched on his collar tighter and kept crying silently. Unbeknownst to them, Elena witnessed the scene and went back to their room with a content smile.
After getting Tory to calm down, they both slipped out of the store room and went back to their respective beds. On the way to his bed room, Damon stopped to look at the picture frames on the wall of the staircase.
Scrutinizing every one of them to make sure, he did justice to every smile of his family and that all of those smiles that were because of his presence, simply because of his presence, were real. His hand involuntarily went up to rub the glass of the frame where he is clutching Tory's hand in one of his and looking up at 3-year-old Clover, situated firmly on his shoulders and Elena's genuine smile, no beam seeing her new family.
The picture was taken by Jeremy on their trip to Disney World and though he was still a little bitter with Damon, they were close to brothers and he was the best brother-in-law Damon could have wished for. Damon shook the mental funk and stepped up towards his room.
Author's notes: Damon and Elena are in 2023 but their journey is way longer. The story will follow them through their years of love and tragedy and reunion.
Please read and review. I would love to know what you'll think of it.
