Summary:
What's FOMO?
FOMO. It was a new term for Dai. Short for "fear of missing out," as Rin texted him.
Well…The fear of missing out was a legit concern. Dai's dismissive attitude that Ayama Luna's no-presale once-in-a-lifetime authorized-store-only item wouldn't sell out within the first five minutes tested Susumu's love for him, Dai's dawdling putting more Luna fans in front of them in line than Susumu was comfortable with.
Up to the breath he released at the moment the manager unlocked the doors and opened up shop, Susumu had tugged his sleeves longer from FOMO. Sleeves his arms now had to grow back into in the years to come.
That Dai didn't know what item Susumu was bent on buying told you everything you needed to know about how Dai would rather be some place else. And that Gotetsu wasn't there with them told you only Luna fans were crazy enough to be up this early!
Nabekichi was an early riser, but went back to sleep easy. Anybody else was like Dai or the manager, bitterly awake.
Luna's music didn't speak to Dai. Striking the right tone was important, and she didn't do it for him.
Susumu wore down his shoes scuffing them in one spot.
Dai should've shown a little more self-awareness. His tone of uncaring struck the wrong tone with Susumu.
It wasn't looking good. A hurried hand count revealed the last two packets would get into the hands of the two girls ahead of them. Depending on whether one of the two girls was there for support like Dai was (was he?), Susumu might walk away empty-handed.
He did. Or at least, he did at first.
"I know it's a long shot, but can I buy that off you?" Dai stopped the girls from leaving.
"Are you nuts? This is Luna-chan's Empires Tour Forbidden Stage Keyring!"
"My boyfriend here is huge into Ayama Luna! It would destroy him if he missed out!"
Dai would also be destroyed, being the reason Susumu missed out. As in, after the mourning period, Susumu would destroy him.
Dai didn't want to be single again…
"You're boyfriends. You?"
"Yeah?"
Their whispering interspersed with simpering worried Dai.
"I'll sell it to you for 50% more if you kiss!"
"Kiss? That's…"
"Deal!" Susumu pulled Dai down.
Dai caught himself with his foot to not land on the floor.
Squealing with her friend, the girl who made the offer slipped Dai her Forbidden Stage Keyring.
Dai mumbled, handing her the money out of his hoodie pocket with his other hand.
Look! He paid! He was there to support Susumu!
"All this for a rubber mascot on a keyring?"
"When they make a keyring of you Dai, I'll buy it no matter what it costs!" Susumu beamed appreciatively under his cinnamon bun swirl of hair, elbows resting on Dai's thigh.
As the winner of the 702nd Kamizumo Grand Championship, Dai-motif merchandise wasn't off the cards.
