Many thanks to Abriza for the beta work and Aragarna—for editing my translation into English.

Preface

Britt Lomond, who starred as Captain Monastario, also auditioned for the role of Zorro. They say Walt Disney liked his candidacy. But, ironically, it was Mr Disney who fired the actor when Monastario became as popular as the main character, since there should be only one celebrity in the series. Moreover, I was always curious what kind of Zorro would have turned out from Lomond.

Captain Monastario is the first in a long line of villains in the Disney series. However, if we rely more on realism and California history than screenwriters did, then the characters can appear in a completely different light…

In conclusion, I will say that I in no way wanted to hurt anyone's feelings and, of course, this story is just an assumption of how canonical events could develop after the arrest of Monastario. I will be happy if you complete reading and like it.

It is also important to note that this story is an experiment: it will exist in two versions, "black and white" and "color". This version is "black and white". The second, "color" (it can be compared to the director's cut of the film) will be published later. The versions differ in the epigraph and the author's afterword.
