• 10 Years Ago:
"Are you REALLY my brother?" the little boy stared up at the taller man, in a near awe.
Takahiro forced a smile. Trying his best not to be sick. The English constables had called him, and asked him if he wanted custody of his little brother... their cousins... had not been kind to the boy.
"That's right," Takahiro assured, "The wizarding government decided to separate us, on account I'm a squib."
The little boy blinked. "Squib?"
"It means my magic is repressed," Takahiro informed.
Unlike some pureblood families, that would cast out any child, as soon as it was confirmed they didn't have magic... Takahiro's parents, or Jasper, if you go by his birth name. Anyway, they had loved their son, even set him up with a nice sized trust fund.
During the war, to keep him safe. They sent him to a boarding school, in Japan. But they still talked every night. And the boy maintained his duel citizenship.
One of Takahiro's deepest shames was how resentful he acted, about them calling him all the time... if he had known...
"Magics not real!" Harry insisted. Only now registering the man said "Wizard".
Takahiro gaped, "Of course magic is real."
Harry scrunched up his nose. Before snapping, "You're trying to trick me! Just like Uncle Vernon." Waiting til the boy said something about magic, then sock him one.
Takahiro grew quiet. "I'm not like our Uncle, Harry."
"Prove it!"
• 1 Year Ago:
"Misaki..." Takahiro found his little brother, once again, at the troll market. At one particular dive bar. That had no qualms selling Sake to underaged psychics. There were various magical beings, all around.
Harry looked up at him. Takahiro had the boy's name changed, in an attempt to hide him from the Wizards... as their parents had for himself, but that hardly made a difference. The wizards still found him, brought him to Hogwarts... and used him as a bloody child soldier.
Oh Harry had returned, every holiday and break... that is, until last year. When he had gone missing, for an entire year. Turns out he had been fighting their war for them... and had been drowning himself in Sake ever since returning home. All his friends had died, every magical he ever cared about. All the boy had left was Takahiro.
"Takahiro!" Harry grinned, before downing his glass. He always was a happy drunk. "I was just (HIC) talking about you!!!"
The Yokai, behind the Counter, gave Takahiro a nod. Which the squib returned. The being had contacted the human. As he usually did, whenever Harry stepped in here. He kept an eye on the boy. Making sure no one tried to eat him... which the boy might be hoping for, coming to a place like this.
Takahiro slipped the Yokai a few golden coins, in appreciation, before squaring the bill.
Turning to his little brother. "Come on, Misaki," Takahiro helped the boy stand. "Let's go home."
• 1 Day Earlier:
"You want me to go to university?" Harry blinked.
Takahiro smiled, in his usual Takahiro way. "Well, since you never actually graduated, first you need to get your GED, then pass an entrance exam to university. But I think school would be good for you. Give you something to focus on. Besides, I had you studying all those muggle textbooks, while you were at Hogwarts. It be a shame to let that go to waste."
Harry sighed, "Yeah I get it." Knowing what this was really about.
Due to being Lord of both House Black, and House Potter, Harry had more money then he knew what to do with. A degree in economics, wouldn't hurt. Even if the Goblins were managing everything.
Well, maybe he should look into something else. Goblins weren't like human bankers. They might be more violent, but they were also more honorable. Embezzlement was unheard of, and giving anything less then a truly fair deal, was near sinful to them.
Harry would never need to work, a day in his life... school would purely be something to distract himself. However, a distraction might be just what he needed. Especially now that he was trying to stay sober.
Takahiro had never steered him wrong before... and in fact, the one time he disregarded his brother's advice... had been to keep out of the war. Harry might have led the wizards to victory... but not without scars.
Harry had always respected his brother, tried his best to be obedient and helpful. The man had saved him from their abusive relatives. It was the least the boy could do... then, he went a step further, and helped keep Harry sane, as he grieved. Harry owed him a lot.
"Alright."
"Excellent!!!" Takahiro grinned. "I already hired you a tutor."
Harry shook his head, a slight smile on his face. "Of Course you did."
