Earth, Fire, Air, Water…
Many years ago, Avatar Korra defeated Kuvira and saved the Earth Nation from oppression. She unfortunately passed from this world, but much like the cycle of the season, the cycle of the Avatar continues on.
Right in the center of New Yokoya, on Kyoshi Island, a small building contains thousands of toys. Including four relics from previous Avatars: a clay turtle, a pull string propeller, a stuffed hog monkey, and a wooden hand drum. Many children went through this old test, yet all of them failed. Causing the Masters of the White Lotus to become frustrated with their failure. Right when they were starting to pack up the toys, a couple with their daughter entered the room. This girl is their only hope of finding the Avatar.
One of the airbending masters Jinora greeted the couple and then crouched down to the little girl's level to greet her.
"Hello, little one, what's your name?" Jinora asked gently. The girl hesitated, "R-Ryoko, my name…is Ryoko."
Jinora gasped, "Ryoko, that's very pretty." She peeped, "Well Ryoko, you get to pick out four toys to take home! Isn't that exciting?"
Ryoko perked when Jinora told her, "Four toys?" The young girl looked up at her mother for her permission. The mother nodded her head, the young girl had the biggest grin she's ever had.
She walked over to the toys, wondering which one to pick. Ryoko spots the clay turtle and was instantly in love with it, she eagerly grabbed the turtle. The master glanced at each other, hoping she would pick the others. Jinora reminded the girl that she had to pick three more. Ryoko nodded her head, and looked around, saw the propeller and picked it up. She then picked up the stuffed monkey, the master stared at her in anticipation, this little girl picked three out of the four relics. She walked over to her mother and gave her the toys and went back to the others. She looked around, there were so many toys, yet she could only pick one more. She saw the hand drum–the final Avatar relic–and picked it up. All the masters were wide eyed, they finally found the Avatar.
"Can I have this one?" She asked, Jinora nodded her head. Ryoko beamed and gave the drum to her mother, the father turned to her.
"Okay, how much do we owe you?" He asked while reaching into her purse, Jinora shook her head. "Nothing, it's all free!" She answered.
"Oh, are you sure? I mean–" Jinora cut the man off, "Positive, it's all free."
The woman put the toys in her purse, "Come on Ryoko, we're going home!" She called her daughter. Ryoko ran to her parents, and she turned to the master. "Thank you so much!" She cheered.
"No, thank you" Jinora whispered as the family left. She turned to the other White Lotus Masters. "Looks like we found the new Avatar."
"Avatar Ryoko… Let's keep an eye on her." The others nodded in agreement.
Sixteen years later…
Ryoko lived in a middle-class, two-story house, two bedrooms, three bathrooms, an attic that nobody goes to and a basement with a storage room with it. Her bedroom had tons of plushies and action figures of her favorite shows and video games. She's a simple girl, loves video games, cartoons, eats cupped ramen religiously, and absolutely adores her cat and eel-hound. Most of the plushies she had are from the cartoon Metal Man: Hero of the World, which got a video game adaptation. She loves the game and the show so much she defends both with her life.
She walks home one day with her mom, "So, Ryoko…your father and I are going to the store to get groceries, you should come with us."
"I can't, I just figured out how to make an account on the game I played yesterday, I want to play a public server."
"Good grief…Ryoko you have to go outside and socialize, come with us." Her mother complained. Ryoko sighed then agreed, "I suppose 'Wizards of Rodania' will have to wait."
"Are we going to meet dad there?" She asked, her mother nodded. "You know Ryoko, before you know it, you'll finish school. I think you should start thinking about your career. You can't spend the rest of your life playing video games and watching TV." She complained, Ryoko hung her head, tired of hearing her parents on her case.
"The problem is I don't know what I want to do." Ryoko moaned, her mother sighed. "Think about a skill that you have, something you're really good at besides video games."
"Well, I'm good at earth bending, so I've got that." She mumbled; her mother smiled.
"That's true, you could join the metal bending police force in Republic City." The older woman explained, "Obviously you'd have to attend a metal bending academy to get in, but school was never a problem for you."
"That's true, maybe I could join the police force. I could be an awesome metal bender! Like Metal Man!"
"We can talk more about this at that parent teacher meeting tomorrow." Her mother clarified, the two finally arrive at the store and see Ryoko's father waving at them.
After some shopping, they finally return home. Ryoko immediately runs upstairs to her room, her parents let out exasperated sighs. Ryoko quickly turns on her XCube Series X and starts playing Wizards of Rodania.
After an hour she starts getting angry, "Come on, I need healing. Where's the healer–WHAT THE HELL!? DON'T RUN IN ENEMY TERRITORY BY YOURSELF! ARE YOU STUPID!?" She shouted in anger as the teammate got eliminated. After about five hours of raging and nearly destroying her TV, she turns off her gaming system and heads to bed, completely exhausted from getting so mad, she passes out as soon as she hits her bed.
To be continued…
