Sorry Not Sorry

Chapter 5

Author Notes: Well even if my bone deep exhaustion is a problem, I at the very least know that I can get done what I can get done. And this one is due for its annual update lol. Let's get to it, We do not own Resident Evil.

3rd P.O.V

"Are we all packed?" Mako nodded, zipping up the last of her luggage. "Did you call our favorite house/petsitter?" Sen rolled his eyes. "Yes Mako. The animals are fine. Our apartment is still in one piece. A day or two more isn't going to be the end of the world." Now it was her turn to roll her eyes.

Ending their vacation a bit early wasn't really something that needed to be debated. They had their little out of town adventure, but both were longing for home. "I'm still writing a crappy review of this place." Mako snorted, unsurprised.

Grabbing her bags, she followed her friend outside their room. "We got everything right?" She did a mental checklist. All the stuff they bought over the last few days, the stuff they brought from home, all the free samples that were laying around the hotel room...all of it was accounted for.

Yet she felt a pang of anxiety, like something was wrong. The red head tried to ignore it, continuing down the stairs that seemed to drag on. Thunder rumbled in the distance, a storm was coming, just like the weather man stated. It was still early, so much so that it was a surprise that Sen was actually awake.

But they were ready to go home, away from the chaotic traffic. They scurried into the barren lobby. "Hey, we're ready to check out." A man stood there instead of the lady they had been dealing with, when she was around at least.

Lately, now that they thought about it, there have been less and less staff around though Mako made no comment on the subject. "So soon? Do you live nearby?" It wasn't like she needed them for anything.

"No, we're a good couple days away from here, but we did what we wanted to do for our vacation and are ready to check out." The gentlman furrowed his brows as Mako(who was the only one with money right now) grabbed her wallet. She took out her card, extending her hand with it out to him.

Yet even after a few seconds, he didn't take it. "Didn't you hear? We're under lockdown right now-mayor's orders." Sen and her shared a glance, alarmed and baffled. "What?" Sen leaned in, glaring. "What the hell do you mean we're under lock down?!"

Instead of answering, the service desk worker turned on the tv that sat in the middle of the lobby. Using his remote, he flipped a few channels, before finally landing on the news station. A woman stood on the streets of Raccoon City with a microphone in her hand.

"-lockdown initiated. Right now everyone is to remain in their homes unless for emergency reasons. No one is to leave or enter town. Police will be doing patrols, keeping the streets empty until further notice."

The two tourists were shocked and baffled. Why the sudden decision? They shifted back to the hotel's employee. "We don't belong here. And we can't afford to stay here for however long this is going to be." That sinking feeling returned in full force when all Mako got was a shrug.

This shouldn't be happening. "You could try staying at the shelter that's not too far down the street and see if they'll take you. No matter what though you won't be able to leave town, better to stay here and wait for news." This couldn't be happening.

"Well now what? We're stuck here!" Sighs left the two as they returned to their room. The storm poured outside while lightning struck the sky. It was still dark out, and a chill crept through their veins as the clock ticked away.

Mako was already on her phone, much to her friend's confusion and frustration. "Who the hell are you calling now?" She ignored him, focusing on the task at hand. "Mako!" The phone was ringing, she shushed him so she could listen. Waiting. "Come on..."

Her roommate waved his arms, again he was ignored. "Hello? Marvin speaking." Her eyes lit up. "Hey Marvin! This is Mako, sorry to call but is this a good time?" If she wasn't too busy trying to hear the policeman through the noisy background Marvin was at, she would've laughed at Sen's bulging eyes.

He looked so lost, even though he was there accepting Marvin's card just like she did after they filed their lost wallet report. Honestly why wouldn't she keep it on hand-especially since there was hardly anyone else who was nice in this town.

"No no, we're fine. No other pickpockets-but we got a bigger issue. What's this about the town going into lockdown mode? Sen and I were ready to check out early of the hotel to head home-only to be told we couldn't leave?"

At this point she had her phone on speaker, allowing for the room to be filled with the officer's voice. They could hear the sound of rushing feet in the background, soft murmurs and whispers that couldn't be properly understood.

There was a temporary flash of static before he answered. "Yeah, they issued it last night. Our boss and the mayor said there was a major security risk and that it had to be issued. We ourselves aren't sure what's going on." That didn't bode well. He continued.

"I'd like to say that you guys should listen to it and stay whereever you are-but personally I disagree. Something is going on and don't like how the higher ups are behaving. If I were you two-i'd find a way to get out of here asap."

Mako's mouth twisted hearing that. "Kinda hard to do that with all the patrols that are going to be happening." With a sigh Mako sat down on her bed, bouncing slightly against it while waiting for a response.

Fortunately, she got one. "I don't start my patrol shift until tonight but if you're willing, we can meet up and I can show you a way out of town the locals aren't aware of." There was hope. Sen jumped in, swiping the phone out of her hand.

"It's not like we have much of a choice. So long as you don't get your ass in trouble helping us out-we'd appreciate it." They heard him laugh on the other line, it cut off briefly due to static.

"Way things are going my ass is in trouble either way. May as well help you guys out. If you can meet me over by that little donut shop on Baker's Avenue at eight o'clock, i'll escort you out. Right now communication isn't happening, so tonight would be our best shot."

In the end, it was never a question of what their decision was. Mako stole her phone back, giving her friend a look all the while. "We appreciate it Marvin, seriously. See you tonight." Neither would bother to unpack their things. "Stay safe until then you two." They hung up, staring at one another.

A sigh left Mako as she took her phone back. "Well...now we just need to figure out how to sneak our stuff into the car." They didn't trust the lobbyman. He was nice enough to tell them about the lockdown, but something told the both of them he wouldn't be willing to let them go.

Money or not, he snitch on them in a heartbeat. "We just got to do some distracting, easy peasy. You grab your stuff, pretend you got laundry to do while I ask or some help with the bathroom."

If only it were that simply. "And what exactly is wrong with the bathroom?" She really didn't like the grin that formed on his face. "Leave it allllll to me."

to be continued

Author Notes: Welp that's another chapter done for halloween. In general Sen and I weren't sure where to go from here, and frankly what I wrote wasn't what was exactly discussed but it still worked all the same. Are characters are making a break for it and what we talked about could still happen.

In any case I got this done before my deadline so it's a win for me. With that, thank you all so much for reading. If you like the story please feel free to fav/follow/review as it would mean a lot and I'll see you next year. Tchao for now.
