Merry Christmas! Honestly, this has been a long time coming. I began writing this story about a year and a half ago, pretty much hated the beginning portion of it, then rewrote half the story and ended up with a bigger manuscript than I can manage. But, I've been excited to post it and for others to read it, because I honestly poured my heart and soul into it. I want to kick off with a few disclaimers; this story is for mature audiences. this story is very gory and disturbing, because if I was going to write a zombie apocalyptic story, I wanted to go in hard. I'm not talking about people being mutilated or anything like that, but there are a lot of adult themes and imagery in this story, so I don't want the kind hearted to be shocked when they read it. Another thing, Deku in this story is a female. I don't know if this bothers a lot of people, but I personally like the Fem!Deku trend I've been seeing on FF. I like male Deku too, but Fem!Deku just hits different. For those who may be feeling uncomfortable with it, the only time I'll really be driving home that Deku is a she is the the first chapter. I mostly refer to her ad Midoriya instead of her genderbend name for those who want to continue to imagine her as a him.

Other than that, I'd say enjoy this story. Most of it is pre written, so hopefully I'll be able to update consistently. I hope you enjoy, and if you don't mind, favorite this story so you can be updated when I post in the future.

Midoriya was late for school. It had been a slow morning. Her mother had left earlier than usual for work, leaving her alone to her own devices until it was time to leave. She hadn't thought to look at the time, because her mom was usually the one to tell it was time to go, so when she finished her shower and glanced at the clock she realized she had less than five minutes to get to the metro.

"Oh no!" she nearly yelled out in her tiny apartment. She hastily rushed to brush her overgrown hair into a messy bun, put her school uniform on, and tripped out the door. She barely noted how her stomach growled, or how she barely had enough money to buy food from the vending machine at school for lunch. She had to get to the metro in two minutes, or she'd be thirty minutes late to class.

As she pushed through people, profusely apologizing the entire way through, she realized how chilly it was. Winter was just around the corner, and with winter came along the cold Midoriya desperately despised.

I wish I grabbed a jacket, she thought to herself as she entered the train station. She huffed a breath before waiting patiently for the metro. She looked at her phone again, ignoring the All Might screensaver she had on her phone to look at the clock. The train was late.

"You've got to be kidding me," she heard someone mumble next to her. "I'll be late to work at this point." As other people continued to complain around her, Midoriya looked down the tunnel the metro always traveled. It was never late, why was today any different?

"Hey, look," another person said. "The train was halted in Hiso this morning. Didn't that city close this morning?" Midoriya gasped. Of course, the train had to stop there. She looked back at her phone. Class wouldn't start for another thirty minutes, and if she was quick she could gather there in twenty-five. She had to be quick.

So much for being on time, she thought as she pushed past people. I hope someone will take over my morning chores. Just as she pushed past the last person, she stopped. Something wasn't right. There was this eerie feeling coming from that tunnel. She looked closer, was that movement? Was there a person there? They were walking slowly, limping almost. There was a sound echoing through the train stop. Were they gurgling?

"Hey," security said from behind her. "No one's supposed to be in there." Midoriya was pushed out of the way as the security guard began to travel towards the man. She ignored his rude gesture and made her way to school, but something still didn't feel right. She didn't stick around to figure out what. She only had twenty minutes to get to school with the five minutes she wasted.

Midoriya hated running late to school. The roads were always full and it was hard to push past people, but that day was different. There were no students on the road. Usually, they would clear out thirty minutes before school started, but there were also barely any students left on the streets. Midoriya always had to push through people twice her height up a steep hill just to make it to the school's entrance, but that day there was no one to push through. It was weird. Mustafu usually had more activity,

What a weird day, she thought to herself. She almost stopped completely until she heard the sounds of the bell of her school. She was going to be late for the first period. And what an awful morning.

She was hit in the face with a dodgeball.

"Oi, watch where you put your face, shitty Deku," Kacchan said, completely ignoring the fact that there was a teacher in the room to hear him cuss.

"Sorry," she said, even though he didn't throw the ball. It was a habit she had, one she didn't mean to fall into. She just always seemed to be in his way.

She walked over to the bench while rubbing her cheek. Tsubasa had a mean throw, and he always seemed to be aiming at her face. He was laughing maniacally in her direction before Kacchan walked up to him. She couldn't hear what he said, but it made Tsubasa shut up. When Kacchan looked back at her she froze. He always looked angry, and at that point, she couldn't tell if he actually was or was just being a jerk. Probably both. He stopped making sense to her after they turned seven.

He was her main antagonist when it came to bullying her, but that day he seemed relaxed. He didn't even mock her when she entered the classroom ten minutes late. During break when she was getting ready for gym, he even stopped one of the girls from making fun of her. It was weird. Everything that day was weird.

"My face feels weird," she mumbled unconsciously, and then there was giggling behind her. She turned, a frown on her face as she looked at Aoi.

"Your face looks weird," Aoi said. "I mean, who even has freckles as hideous as yours?" Midoriya blushed, turning away from them. She knew she shouldn't feel ashamed, getting rid of freckles was something that would never happen. In fact, it only seemed to get worse with age, new freckles always appearing out of thin air on some plain part of her face.

Midoriya was used to the random comments. They were always thrown at her at random times in the hallway or in the classroom, or in that case, gym class after she was hit in the face with a ball. She just wanted gym class to be over.

Desperate for time to speed up, she watched Kacchan play. He was really good at any sport, but he seemed to excel in anything that involved throwing a ball. He took out people easily, mercilessly until every person was out and his team won. As the other cheered he looked out toward the stand, scanning as if trying to find something. Their eyes met, and for the first time in a long time, he didn't look angry, just indifferent. Their eye contact lingered, and then Tsubasa smacked him hard on the back. Kacchan turned around, a scowl set on his face as he yelled at one of his goons.

"Enough," the teacher said. "Class is ending early today. Everyone go change and head back to your classrooms." The room erupted in cheers, but Midoriya was confused. Class was ending early? She stood from the stand and began making her way to the girls changing room.

"Did you hear," one of the girls said. "All the schools are closing. They are sending students home all over the city."

"How do you know this," another girl said.

"One of my friends goes to Shiketsu, you know the boarding school. She said they are sending kids home from her school because of a national emergency," the girl further explained. Midoriya continued to listen, reaching for her locker for her school uniform. It made sense. The metro was late and school was ending early. Nothing else in the world could ever make those happen.

"I heard they're making parents pick up their kids," another girl said. "My mom at work. I'm gonna be stranded at school."

"My mom can take you," another girl said. "We'll leave no girl behind." they erupted in laughter, and Midoriya sulked in the corner, once again left out by the other girls in the locker room.

Just as pulled her skirt up she heard the bathroom door handle rattle. The door had a tendency to lock itself if no one put a shoe in the way. The other girls stopped talking, all shocked by the noise.

"That's right. Nakura never came up for class," A girl said. "I wonder if she's okay."

Midoriya began to approach the door, reaching to open the door, then froze. She was coughing.

"Nakura," she said. "Are you alright in there? That's a nasty cough you have." There was no reply. Midoriya looked behind her at the other girls. They seemed shocked, for once not even bothering to make fun of her voice. They gestured for her to open the door.

"Nakura, step away from the door," Midoriya said. "I'm gonna unlock it okay. If you're sick, tell us now and we'll get the nurse." Once again no reply. Midoriya felt nervous again, like back at the train station. Something wasn't right.

She opened the door, inhaling deeply at the foul stench that left the room. It smelled metallic, and it was potent. Something slumped against the floor, and then she saw a hand. Her heart stopped.

"Nakura?" she whispered. "Are you alright?"

Silence.

"Someone get a nurse," Midoriya said as she turned around. "She's bleeding really bad– What?" One of the girls pointed behind her, taking a fearful step back as she let out a silent scream. Midoriya slowly turned around.

Nakura was standing now, but it wasn't natural. Her black hair was a matted mess and her clothes were wrinkled and pulled at. She was leaning heavily to the right and she looked unstable. Her eyes were void of any emotion and her face was morphed in a snarl. Blood and saliva dripped from her mouth, collecting on her clothes and the ground. Her single shoe trailed blood as she dragged it against the ground, trying to snag Midoriya.

"Nakura, this isn't funny," one of the girls said. She didn't look like she heard any of it. She still reached for Midoriya, still limped out of the dark bathroom.

Then she lunged.

Screams erupted through the girl's locker room as Nakura came at Midoriya like a wild animal. Arms swinging and teeth snapping, Midoriya felt like the world froze. Nakura wasn't okay. She was being way too aggressive for the passive person she was. There was no warmth in her eyes, on her face. Everything was just gone.

Nakura pulled at Midoriya's shirt, pulling the greenette towards her with strength Midoriya didn't know the thin girl had. It took pushing the girl away from her neck three times for Midoriya to realize Nakura was trying to bite her. That sent fear through Midoriya's body, and without thinking she let the girl rip her shirt off of her. Nakura stumbled back, Midoriya's shirt in hand as the greenette ran for the stairs, her heart racing in her chest.

What was that?

When she got to the top of the stairs and back into the main gym she froze. Was there anybody left down there? Was there someone who was going to get attacked by Nakura? Her mind was in such a frenzy she didn't realize that people were staring at her.

"Midoriya," the teacher said. "What happened down there? Why are you covered in blood?"

"Wha– oh!" she looked down at her plain white undershirt, blood spread all across the surface in the shape of a handprint. Her clothes were disheveled, and she was sure she looked crazy herself. She looked back up at the rest of her classmates. "Nakura attacked me?"

"What did you say to her?"

"I-I asked if she needed help," Midoriya stuttered. "I-I thought I heard her cough, b-but I think that was her choking in her own blood. She was bleeding really bad."

"So you pushed her away from you instead of helping her," one of the guys said. Midoriya shook her head aggressively, closing in on herself. What had happened? Had she pushed away someone who needed help?

"She tried to bite me," she told the classmate. The guys began to mummer to one another, not believing a word she said.

"It's true," one of the girls said. "Deku asked Nakura if she was okay, and then Nakura attacked her." That seemed to shut everyone up. The teacher looked at Midoriya's blood-stained shirt and sighed.

"Head to class," he said. "I'm going to make sure Nakura is okay."

"It's not safe–"

"Oi," Kacchan said, gaining Midoriya's attention. "Let's walk to class." Once again she was frozen, and so was the rest of the class. Since when did Kacchan offer to walk her to class?

"Dude, are you alright in the head?" Tsubasa asked. "I mean, that's Deku. Why would you want to walk with her."

"Go," he practically snarled at Tsubasa. "I need to talk to her." The other's left, whispering amongst one another. feeling self-conscious with everyone's eyes on her, she looked at the ground, picking at her nails. Katsuki stood a few feet in front of her, eyes examining her, then he took off his jacket. He held it out for her.

"I-I'm fine," she stuttered, giving him a shy smile while waxing her hands in front of her. His offering her his jacket could not end well.

"It's not a request, dumbass," he said. "You're covered in blood." For that reason, she hesitantly grabbed the jacket and put it on.

It smells like Kacchan, she thought as the scent of sweet caramel filled her nose. She looked up at him, feeling small under his intense gaze. His eyes looked softer though, almost like when they were younger. Midoriya didn't want to look away.

"Let's go," he said, turning to walk in front of her. She followed behind quietly, admiring him from behind. He didn't yell at her–he even held eye contact for a bit.

Kacchan's growing, she thought. Once again Katsuki managed to surprise her, he was always surprising her.

The teacher dragged on with an announcement, but Midoriya was busy looking across the room through the window. It was a bright, sunny day, just like any other in fall, but the window was closed. She could feel a cold draft, and it was far too late into November for the AC to be on. The room was oddly silent for it to be break time. Nobody bothered to make conversation. Something terrifying was happening but none of them knew what.

The teacher wouldn't disclose any information about the situation. They weren't dismissing the kids to walk themselves home. Their parents had to pick up the kids themselves. Midoriya worried how long she'd be in the classroom. Her mom worked long hours, and she doubts she'd be able to pick her up anytime soon.

She could feel the tension in the room. For once, she wasn't the center of attention. No one bothered picking on her, calling her name, commenting on her lack of attractiveness of popularity. They were all busy on their phones, contacting their parents, trying to see when they would get home. She could hear the murmurs of the girls in the back, gossiping about what they heard on the news. Apparently, it was some kind of illness spreading within the area. It was fast-acting, almost inhumanly so. They wanted people to stay in their homes until it passed, but many were already exposed to the illness. However, she doubted that was the case. If it were true, they would have been in lockdown a long time ago.

Nakura's name was thrown in there a few times, as well as hers too. She wasn't oblivious to the looks she was given, though she couldn't tell if it was because of her blood-stained shirt or the fact that Kacchan gave her his jacket. She looked a few seats ahead of her. There he sat, staring idly at his phone. He didn't look stressed like the other students, but she could tell by his silence he was worried too. He turned his head in her direction, his bright red eyes staring into her own. Once again they looked gentler, and they didn't sneer at her. Her heart was beating fast in her chest. He stood up and he walked to Midoriya, his eyes never leaving hers.

Midoriya would be lying if she said she wasn't mesmerized. They'd known each other since forever. They were childhood friends, the only people in Aldera middle school who knew each other since diapers. It was only natural he'd be popular and praised in elementary and middle school. Kacchan was perfect. She wasn't. It was only natural they'd grow apart, and as Kacchan continued to adapt, so did his attitude about her too. Nobody liked her, it would only make sense that he wouldn't like her too. It didn't matter how many naps they took together or times they were washed together.

But she felt like she wasn't looking at the Kacchan she was used to. No, he was looking at the Kacchan that used to be her best friend. The one that always worried when she fell and scraped her knee, the one that always gave her his juice box because one was never enough for her. It was shocking because since puberty he seemed to possess some sort of god complex when it came to her, but for some reason, he cared about her at that moment. That scared Midoriya, and also made her heart flutter in her chest.

"Has your mom responded yet?" he asked. Again the room grew quiet. Eyes were on them, well really on Kacchan. He cleared his throat and threw a glare at everyone else, and that seemed to make the world go back to normal. His eyes were on her again, and they were soft, gentle even. She took a moment to remember this moment before it was gone, before he started calling her Deku again and acted as if she wasn't worth his time.

"N-No," she said. "I think she's busy with work."

"My mom will be here in a few minutes," he said. "We can take you if you want. I know your mom works late." Once again her heart started to flutter. Kacchan never worried about her, at least not anymore. She couldn't bring herself to respond to him and turned her attention to her phone.

It buzzed gently on the table, and bright text flashed in her face. Can't get to the school. Ride home with Aunt Mitsuki. She'll be taking care of you until I get there. ~mom. her heart began to pound. Was the situation bad enough that she needed to stay with the Bakugo's? Her mother usually trusted her to stay home by herself after school. She was getting older, and it saved money if she watched over herself instead of someone else.

"Alright," she said to Kaccan. He went back to his seat, resting his head in his hand as he looked out the window. When his croony tried to talk to him he actively ignored them. His face was tight, his eyes narrowed. It takes away from his natural beauty, she thought.

She waited patiently to leave, her anxiety slowly rising with every minute that passed.

They'd been waiting for two hours before shit had started to hit the fan. Students were lined up by the door, waiting patiently to be escorted to their parents. There were police by the entrance, not many but enough to make Midoriya paranoid. She found herself twisting her hair with her pointer finger, muttering slowly to herself as she watched the other students walk slowly to their parents. Bakugou stood next to her, her eyes searching through the window for the familiar ash blonde hair his mother possessed.

He would never admit it out loud, but he was scared out of his life. Both his parents called shortly after the teacher announced they'd been dismissed early. His father sounded urgent, giving him clear instructions on what to do until he got home. His mother was more chaotic, asking questions so out of order it gave him a headache. She asked about Midoriya, who he was already worried about. She was eerily calm for someone who had been attacked and was covered in blood. When he looked back she was always staring down at her phone, as if waiting for her mother to make the first move. He knew she was a busy woman, and Midoriya wouldn't dare interrupt her work. Once he told his mother she was fine, she told him Midoriya would be coming with them. For once, he didn't argue and agreed with his mom. If the situation was as bad as his father made it seem, then he didn't trust Midoriya by herself for a single minute.

There was a lot of traffic, and he feared his mother wouldn't be able to get to them. They had stopped letting students out a while back, and some parents were even getting out of the car to yell at the officers for their children. Midoriya gripped his arm when many parents gathered at the door, grabbing whoever was their child to leave. The police tried to push them out the way, and then it just became a cluttered mess as people tried to push past one another. Bakugou held on to Midoriya as they were pushed around, and before he knew it they somehow were pushed outside of the school buildings as the parents fought with the police.

"What the fuck is going on?" he asked himself. Midoriya looked just as confused, her gaze just as puzzled as they looked at the conflict. Whatever was happening had to be important for parents to go psycho like that, but he for the life of him couldn't figure out what.

"K-Kacchan," Midoriya stuttered, pulling at his sleeve as she looked over her shoulder. "I-It's another one?" Bakugou looked at where she was pointing, taking a step back when it approached them. He couldn't tell if the man was alive or not, but he was definitely not okay. There was a large, gaping hole in the side of his neck, gushing blood at a speed that would kill him. Its eyes looked like they had burst, and the iris was a cloudy white that looked Lifeless. The man limped towards them, his leg looking dislocated. That man shouldn't be walking, but somehow he was and he was approaching the teens at an unsettling pace.

"Stay away," he warned the man, pushing himself and Midoriya back towards the school building. The man didn't listen and started to stretch his arm, trying to reach for his arm. Bakugo sidestepped him, just barely managing to get out of its grasp as he bumped into an officer. He got distracted when the officer looked down at him in disdain, and he was about to snap at the man before his wrist was pulled and he was brought down to the ground.

"Kacchan!" he heard Midoriya scream as the man sat on him, snapping his jaw at him. Bakugou had his forearm against the man's chest, using all of his strength to keep the man from biting into his neck. He was scared, just barely managing to yell out for help before a yellow backpack hit the man on top of his head.

Midoriya grabbed his wrist and helped him up, just managing to get him up in time before a stampede passed by them. Students, parents, and teachers pushed against them, trying to get out of the school building as more of those monsters started to invade the area. Midoriya looked panicked, reacting to the sound of people screaming and pushing them back. Without thinking, he held on tight to her before she could stumble away from him, his arms wrapped around her head and he tried to keep the both of them standing. He heard gunshots, flinching when each one went off, then he and Midoriya were pulled back into the school building.

"Stay here. Don't move," he heard, and then the glass doors shut. Whoever told them to stay hadn't thought it out, because the front entrance of the school was entirely made of glass, and they could see everything. They could see the people who weren't strong enough to fight off the monsters, and it was bloody. People were attacking other people, biting into flesh in gruesome and inhuman ways. The ones who were more unfortunate, or maybe more fortunate as they died quicker than others (and Bakugo knew they died because he watched the life leave their eyes) were getting up and attacking others too. It was like a horror movie come to life.

He hid Midoriya's head in his shoulder, but he already knew the damage was done. She was shaking, holding on tight to his waist as she watched the bloodshed. Bakugou didn't bother to yell at her to let go, because he was just as scared as her. He knew something was wrong, but he didn't know that it was that bad.

They were one of the only students left in the school building, along with Tsubasa, Aoi, and a handful of other students left that weren't in his class. There was one other teacher, one who seemed to be stunned and frozen in her place. There were at least three officers left, and only two managed to get back before the door was locked. Whoever was outside wouldn't be able to get in without breaking the glass, but Bakugo wouldn't be surprised if the attackers tried.

"Go to one of the classrooms," an officer ordered, pulling his injured comrade down the hall. Everyone else followed them. Bakugou had to drag Midoriya along with them. She was frozen in shock from the blood. He wished he could block her vision from the horror around them but it was already too late. The damage was done.

What the fuck was happening?
