It was his first day on the job and Bill already wanted to quit. Being bodyguard to the president was not what he had envisioned for his life. But like always life had its own plans. After he left Galactica he'd wanted to have a quiet retirement, he could finally catch up on some reading. He was bored after a week. By week two he had annoyed Lee so much with random visits and too many phone calls, that Lee suggested he find another job. Not a day later, Kara called telling him a position had opened up in the Presidents security detail and he would be perfect for the job. It was a little too convenient but Bill applied for the job and got it. Now he walked swiftly beside Kara through the crowded room.
"Where is she?" Kara said. The president seemed intent on slipping away form her security detail every chance she could. Bill kept his eyes scanning over the crowd, searching for her vibrant red hair. Billy, the presidents young assistant came bounding over the them.
"Don't tell me you lost her already?" He said glancing nervously between the two of them.
"That women has a death wish," Bill muttered.
"There she is," Kara said spotting her in the crowd talking to some people. They followed her, Billy trailing behind them. Bill and Kara stood a couple feet away from the president fading into the backdrop of people. Once she was done talking to the group she ducked behind a group of people weaving her way through the crowd. Bill and Kara quickly followed after her, trying to not to lose her this time. How she walked so fast in heels, Bill didn't understand.
"I don't need two security gaurds, one was more then enough," she said, once they had left the room and were out of earshot at the crowd.
"Just doing my job, Madam President," Bill replied. They walked the rest of the way in silence. She started to open the door to her office.
"Wait," Bill said. She rolled her eyes as Bill and Kara entered first, then let her enter when they determined it was safe. Bill and Kara stood just outside the door to her office. He watched as people entered and left, many brining piles of paper work. She sat at her desk for hours filling out paper after paper. Occasionally Bill would glance at her. He watched as she pushed her glasses up her nose and ran a hand through her red hair. Her heard her sigh as someone else dropped another file onto her desk.
"This doesn't seem like the type of job you'd like," Bill observed, talking to Kara, "It seems too..."
"Boring?" Kara offered.
"I was going to say quiet."
"It is... Until the President has a speech in five minutes, she ditched her security detail, no one know where she is and it's your job to find her."
Laura Roslin didn't quite know what to make of her new bodyguard, she supposed she didn't have to make anything of him. He was just supposed to be there. He was silent and seemed to think and choose his words carefully before he spoke, unlike the other one Kara, who talked first and thought second. Laura like that someone would at least be somewhat honest with her, it was a nice break from all the politicians. Unfortunately Bill Adama was better at keeping track of her then the old bodyguard was. She'd only managed to slip away for a couple minutes at a time. Laura could feel his presence standing at the door to her office. Every so often she could see him staring at her out of the corner of her eye. It was very distracting. Laura pushed her glasses up her nose and ran a hand through her hair. She was determined to finish all of her paper work, of course that never happened. There were not enough hours in the day, eventually, when she started to get a headache, she would give up and go home. Her mother would say she worked to much, but her mother wasn't here. So Laura could work for as long as she liked and no one cared except for maybe Billy.
"Madam President," came a timid voice.
"Yes Billy?"
"It's time for the Qurom meeting." Laura stood up and mentally prepared herself to stop the members of the Qurom from trying to rip each others heads off. Her two security gaurds trailed after her, once she left the office. The yelling coming from the meeting room could be heard all the way down the hall. She took a breath and opened the door. The room quieted somewhat when the President entered. She shot the members still arguing her 'school teacher' glare and they stopped.
Bill admired the way she handled the Qurom, it could not be easy keeping that group in line, but somehow she almost managed it. After two hours of mostly arguing and yelling the meeting was over. They followed her back to her office where she did more paper work. At eight o'clock she finally decided to go home. Kara had left early so Bill walked beside her alone. For once she didn't seem to be tying to run away from him, she looked tired but who wouldn't be after working for twelve hours.
"So Mr. Adama," she said, "How was your first day on the job."
"Long," he said.
A man of few words.
