Chapter 1 - Friend or Foe?
She flew high in the sky, feeling totally free and peaceful. She just loved it. After all missions, she just loved to take in the view of the city, enjoy the wind against her cheeks. She thought about her life and everything that has happened so far: she had a broken heart and was on the path of mending it; she just had no idea how. She fell in love with James Olsen but he went back with his ex Lucy Lane for a while and when they broke up and James and Kara finally could be together, her uncle tried to control everyone's minds and everything when south. Kara decided she wouldn't pursue love anymore, because she needed to find herself first. She had to decide what to do with her job at CatCo, she had her cousin for a few days and they teamed up, making her so happy to finally be able to fight by Superman's side. Once he left, she felt a bit weird because it was fun to have another super hero around, her family, even if it was just for a while. A few days ago she got to see the new DEO building and she was surprised because they made her work for so long in a bunker in the middle of nowhere. Everything was happening and changing so fast, it was overwhelming, so it was nice to just be able to escape, fly high and take a few minutes to take deep breaths and just relax.
She opened her eyes and decided to make one last quick patrol before heading back home. There was always someone needing help around the city, so she just started to fly around, paying attention to her hearing until she heard a heart beating really slow, and it looked like someone was in really critical condition. She followed the sound until she reached the woods, almost in the city limits. She used her x-ray vision and saw a person lying on the ground. She super sped there and saw a shirtless man, with really short blond hair; he was all covered in blood and had a lot of bruises and deep cuts, one in particular really big, near his ribs, as if he was stabbed. She checked his vitals and felt alarmed, noticing he was barely alive. She took him in her arms and just flew really fast back to the DEO.
As soon as she got there, Winn jumped from his seat, shocked with the scene. Alex came running and helped Kara bring the men to the med bay.
- What happened? Who is this? – J'onn said as he rushed inside the med bay.
- I have no idea who he is. I found him barely alive in the woods. I didn't think, I just brought him here.
- We'll do our best to help him and then we worry about who he is. – Alex said. – He looks really terrible… - She said – We'll do our best here, I need you guys to wait outside – Alex said as some doctors from the DEO came inside to help her.
Kara nodded with her head and left with Winn and J'onn. She was really worried, even if she had no idea who in Rao's name that guy was. Every single life was precious to her; she truly hoped he could be saved.
- I know no one wants to think about it now but… What if he is some evil alien or something? – Winn asked feeling really worried.
- If he's someone bad, we will with that later. We need to focus on saving his life first. – Kara said.
Alex and the team of doctors of the DEO managed to save the man's life but according to her sister, he was still in a critical situation. A few days passed and nothing changed until one day, he started to show some improvement of his condition. Kara really hoped he could be completely recovered soon so they could finally find out who was he and if he was a friend or foe.
- I'm glad he's getting better… - Kara said after Alex gave her the last update.
- You acted fast, so this made all the difference. One more hour and he would be gone… - Alex said
- Thank Rao…
- Whoever he is, he must have been through something really bad and is lucky to be alive. Besides everything we took care of, he still had a lot of scars… Like a lot.
- I guess we can know more once he wakes up… We'll just have to wait.
Kara thought about it and Alex was right. When she rescued him, she noticed that too but she was too focused on saving the man's life, but now, thinking about it, she wasn't sure how could any human have that bunch of scars and probably more, and be alive. She also noticed he had a extremely muscular body, the kind that someone who trains really hard has. She doubted it was for any kind of sports. She felt really curious about that man, who he was, what was his story, where he was from, she just hope to get all the answers one day.
There was a loud noise coming from the med bay and Kara, Alex, J'onn, Winn and a few more agent ran in that direction just to see the man awake, on his feet and a bunch of things on the floor. He had a scared and suspicious look on his face, and looked around, trying to make sense of everything he was seeing. He felt a sharp pain and almost fell to the ground but Kara moved fast and held him before he could hit the ground.
- Hey, it's ok… - She said, noticing his heart beating really fast. – You're safe.
- Where am I? What…happened? – He struggled to talk, feeling a lot of pain and pushed Kara's arm away when she tried to reach him to try to help him get back to bed. – WHERE AM I?
- You're at the DEO – Alex said, ready to jump and take him down if it was necessary – You got really hurt, almost died… You need to stay calm so we can help you and…
Alex couldn't finish the sentence because the man just jumped to the other side of the bed and fell to the ground in pain. He kicked J'onn as he tried to help and twisted Alex's arm, turning her around and trapping her arm behind her back. Alex reacted, getting free of his hold and Kara and J'onn acted together. J'onn used his mind control to try to calm him down as Kara just gave him a punch really fast, knocking him down.
- I guess that answers your question – Alex stared at Winn while J'onn helped Kara tie him up.
- We still don't know anything… If he's not from here, he must be confused and scared…
- He tried to attack you – Winn said.
- I know. Again: he's scared. We need to be able to talk to him and get some answers… He also needs to recover, I don't think he realized the severity of his situation – Kara said.
- Well… We'll need to wait for him to wake up now – J'onn said.
- We will.
A few hours later, the man opened his eyes, feeling a bit dizzy. He had no idea where he was and why he was tied up in a bed. He looked around and saw tree people staring at him with a lot of caution.
- Where I am? And why am I tied up? – He asked, still feeling pain all over his body.
- You're at the med bay of the DEO, in National City and you tried to attack us! We had to tie you up so we can talk! – Alex said with her arms crossed.
- What's the DEO? What the hell happened?
- You need to calm down – J'onn said, taking a few steps closer to Alex.
- Hey guys! Its ok – Kara said – Let me talk to him… I can see he's confused and scared…
Alex and J'onn stared unsure at Kara, but nodded with their heads, leaving Kara alone with him in the room.
- Listen… I found you in the woods; you were almost dead, covered in blood and full of scars and bruises… I brought you here and Alex and DEO's medical team helped you.
- You… saved my life?
Kara nodded, stepping closer to the bed.
- Yes. You were in a really bad condition, I couldn't just leave you alone there, so I brought you here…
- What is exactly this facility?
Oliver felt a lot of pain, but he was used to it. He did his best to stay cautious of his surroundings, alert to any kind of threat. He didn't know those people and was ready to fight anyone if he had to, but something told him it was better to find out more about the place, everyone there and take one step at the time.
- Is the department of extra-normal operations…
- Extra-normal? – Oliver felt a bit dizzy and really confused. Nothing of what she was saying made sense.
- Everything that the cops can't handle. Intergalactic criminals, rogue aliens…
- Aliens?
Oliver kept staring at Kara, not actually knowing what to say. He tried to keep in mind that of course aliens were real; it wasn't the least absurd thing he had seen in the past few years. One thing he was sure and he was starting to agree with his friend, John Diggle: their world really turned upside-down after they met Barry Allen, The Flash.
- Yes – Kara said – Are you ok? – She added, noticing the look in his face.
- I'm sorry… I'm just processing the information… We don't have aliens where I come from… I've only seen meta-humans.
- Oh… - Kara said, wondering where he was from because at least on Earth, everyone knew about aliens existing and living among humans. – I promise I'm one of the good ones. – She said, feeling a bit nervous.
- Oh, no… I didn't mean that, is just that… is a lot to process, just the fact that I'm alive is something I'm trying to wrap my head around
He tried to adjust in his bed but being tied to the bed didn't make thing any easier.
- I know you must be really confused but so are we. So… If I let you go, do you promise to not jump around trying to kick everyone out? Will you stay calm so we can talk? I'm not trying to hurt you, why would I save you if I was? Let's just talk, so we can figure it out what's happening and find a way to help you, ok?
He nodded with his head. She made a good point, so he decided to just listen and try to figure it out what happened.
- What do you remember? From before coming here? – She said as she gently untied him.
- I have no idea how I ended up here, I don't even know where here is but… I remember I challenged Ra's Al Ghul and we fought in a mountain covered in snow… I remember him craving the sword on me and kicking me off the cliff. I remember falling… And that's it.
- Oh my Rao! – Kara covered her mouth with both hands. – Why would you fight this person, in the middle of the snow and… - Her eyes went through every scar and wound he had from his forehead to his abs, down his legs - Shirtless? … - She asked, feeling her cheeks burn, blushing after noticing what she said.
- League tradition.
- Ok… - Kara said, having no idea what in Rao's name did he mean with that - Start from the beginning… What happened for you to end up there with this guy?
- Don't get me wrong… I'm really tired… and everything hurts – He said – I need to come back home…
- I can't help you if I don't have all information. – Kara said as she sat by his side on the edge of the bed – At least tell me your name…
Alex and J'onn came back; noticing he was calmer and just talking to Kara while she was untying him.
- She's right – Alex said – We need at least the basics, to help find your friends or family…
- My name is Oliver Queen and I'm from Star City.
Alex stared at him in shock and took a few steps back. Kara stared confused at her, noticing J'onn had the same expression on his face.
- That's impossible.
- What are you talking about? – Oliver asked, feeling already fed up with that whole situation.
Alex grabbed her phone and took a few minutes typing on it, until she showed it to Kara.
- Because Oliver Queen has been dead for 3 years. – Alex said – His father Robert Queen, CEO of Queen Industries, disappeared for 5 years with his son and crew and when he was found, he gave a press conference, and he said he was the only survivor of the Queen's Gambit accident.
Oliver stared confused at them. He was pretty much alive, he survived the accident, and he spent five years away and came back… What on Earth where they talking about?
- Oh… I remember this… - Kara said, staring at the phone and then at Oliver, and then, she remembered when a superhero from another universe got stuck in hers and she helped him go back home. He told her about the multiverse being real and how it worked.
- Supergirl? – Alex stared worried at Kara – What is it?
- You're from another Earth – Kara stared at Oliver and he kept looking at her as if she was insane, until he thought for a while and scratched his forehead.
Not so long ago, when he helped his friend Barry Allen and his team, Barry mentioned something about multiple Earths and doppelgangers.
- Of course… - He lowered his head, – I swear my life was normal before I met Barry…
- Barry? Barry Allen? – Kara asked, getting quickly up.
Oliver stared even more lost at Kara. How the hell did she know Barry? That situation was becoming crazier and crazier.
- The Flash? The guy you told me you helped get back home? – Alex asked.
- Do you know Barry? That he is The Flash? – Oliver was feeling his head spinning – This is way too much… - He took a deep breath, still feeling pain everywhere.
- I think we should let him get some rest and recover… We can talk about it all later and… - J'onn started, but Oliver interrupted him.
- Its ok, I… I can handle it. I've been through worse, believe me. – He sat properly on the bed – Just… tell me how you know Barry… I mean, he has been here before? He never mentioned it…
- Yes. He was trying to fight some evil speedster back on his Earth and trying to get faster. He told me he used some device to help him with that and he got so fast, he was able to open a breach and ended up here. He saw me flying from a building and saved me, but I had to go back to the city, so I flew away and he followed me, running really fast. He realized he wasn't on his Earth and asked for my help.
- And how he managed to go back home?
At least now, Oliver had a small amount of hope, giving the fact that someone from Earth 1 has been where he was before.
- Well… He's a speedster. So we combined his speed with mine and we could open a breach back to his world.
- Are you a speedster? – J'onn asked.
- No. – Oliver said – On my Earth I'm a vigilante. I'm the Green Arrow.
- Oh he asked me about you… We don't have any of the heroes he mentioned here; at least I've never heard of them before… That's how he knew he wasn't on his Earth. – Kara said feeling less confused now.
- So now it all makes sense… I'm on a different Earth – Oliver said – Barry had mentioned about different Earths when we last helped him, but never went into details…
Somehow, it made Oliver feel a bit better. It was still hard for him to trust people he barely new, but they knew Barry, they helped him before, so maybe there was a way they could find to help him get back home.
- The thing is… if it takes the speed of two to open this portal, and he is not a speedster, how can we help him go back home? – Alex asked, staring from J'onn to Oliver.
- We can figure it out. – Kara said – Winn in really good with technology, he might be able to come up with something… - She stared at Oliver and reached for one of his hands – We will help you, we'll find a way, we always do… In the mean time you need to recover because you're in a really bad shape. It's a miracle you survived giving the conditions I found you.
- Thank you – Oliver said staring from Alex to Kara – She told me you helped saving my life
Alex smiled, nodding with her head.
- I'm glad to see you're ok, and less violent…
- I'm sorry about that…
- It's ok. That's trauma response. – Alex said – I'm just relieved you're not a super villain or something – She said - We'll let you rest.
Alex and J'onn left the room again. Kara turned around and was about to leave when Oliver reached for her hand, making her turn to stare at him.
- I'm sorry about earlier…
- Its ok, Oliver…
- No it's not. You saved my life and I was a jerk… I'm really sorry. And… Once I feel better, I'll tell you everything. – He looked down – I'm trying this new thing… called trusting new people…
He teased, making Kara laugh.
- I'm glad you're trying it. Listen… If you want to, as soon as they discharge you, you can stay in my place while we work on how to bring you back home… And you can tell me everything. – She smiled.
- You don't even know me…
- You are Barry's friend, someone he told me he trusts a lot and you're also a hero…
- I'm not sure about that.
Oliver still felt weird when people called him that. He was still getting used to it, and yes, he cared about the city and all but he wasn't sure if he could be called that yet.
- Anyone who risks their lives to help other people, are heroes in my book. – Kara got up and crossed her arms – I can see you have a lot of trust issues, but you'll need to work on that, otherwise it will be really hard for us to help you. So once they say it's ok for you to leave, you come home with me, I can help you with the recovery and we'll have a lot of time to talk, you can tell me what happened and I'll do everything I can to help you get back home. Deal?
- Sounds good to me. – He smiled back, realizing there would be no point in arguing with her.
Alex came back, with a bunch of papers and gave them to Kara, smiling as she stared from her to Oliver, explaining how he would need to fully rest, take his medication and keep his wounds clean until they completely healed to take off all stitches he had to get.
- It means no exercise, no running or whatever you used to do… In the meantime, we'll try our best to find a way to help you get back home.
- I can help him in the recovering process – Kara said as she stared at Oliver – Any friend of Barry is a friend of mine. I'm Kara Danvers, by the way. – She reached for his hand.
- Nice to meet you, I'm Oliver Queen – He said, shaking her hand.
Kara helped Oliver to get to her place; she had a guest bedroom in case her sister or her cousin wanted to spend a few days, so she settled everything for Oliver to stay in. The first few days we a bit harder, Oliver couldn't do much and needed Kara's help but as the days passed, things became a little bit easier. He was able to stand and walk by himself, just a bit slower because everything still hurt, but at least it was some progress. It was really late and Kara sat on the couch, watching one of her favorite musicals. Oliver walked slowly and sat by her side.
- It still hurts?
- Everything hurts, but I'll survive – Oliver let a small laugh, making Kara smile.
- I'm glad you're getting better…
- Listen… That first day, you asked me a few things… I'm sorry if I seemed rude or something, I'm just not really used to talk about my life with people I just met, considering everything…
- I understand. It is hard to explain to people why some things happen to us with this life we live.
- Yes, it is. Is also a relief to be able to talk about it… I guess I owe you an answer…
- You don't owe me anything, Oliver, don't worry…
- But I want to! – He said as he smiled to her, determined.
And it was true, he was. He usually had a hard time trusting people and usually, he would just fight everyone to mind their own business and let him figure things out, but first he was on a different Earth and that was something that never ever happened to him before, so he had no idea what to do, he knew no one there and he would never be able to come home by himself. Also, there was something about Kara that made him feel like he was safe, like he could trust her and he had no idea why. It had been a long time since he genuinely smiled like that as well, and it felt weird.
Truth be told, it was refreshing to be in another place that seemed to be brighter than his hometown and he had no idea why, but something about Kara made him feel comfortable, relaxed. She saved his life not even knowing if he was a good person or a super villain, so the least he could do was tell her why he needed saving in the first place. He noticed Kara staring at him nervously.
- Yes? – He nodded with his head
- I'm curious about something… How did you and Barry meet? You two seem to be so different… - She scratched her head as he made a funny face - I'm sorry, not like in a bad way – She said – I mean…
- Its ok – Oliver said – Barry came to Star City to help us with a case, but it was actually an excuse because he was actually investigating a personal case about who killed his mom and framed his dad. He saved my life and learned about my secret that day…
- Wow! – Kara said – And… Why you have this "I'm sorry I ran a puppy over" look on your face?
- Because I almost choked him that day. I was really pissed that my team told him my secret and asked him to save my life. I have this tendency of pissing people off when they try to save my life.
- I've noticed… - She said as she stared at her hands
- Like I've said, I'm trying to be better…
- I'm glad you are – She stared at him. – Well, go on…
He knew he deserved even more than that. She was really sweet to people who didn't deserve, he thought.
- When he went back home to Central City, he was struck by lightning and spent 9 months in a coma. When he woke up, he had super speed and he stopped by to see me, because he felt really lost and had no idea what to do. I tried to help him the best I could and we became friends.
- Wow… - Kara looked startled – I mean it must've been awful to be struck by lighting, but the fact that he had someone to help him and guide him… I kinda had that, but not like that…
Oliver stared at Kara, realizing he actually knew nothing about her other than she had super powers. She could fly, she had super speed and was really strong. His curiosity kept knocking on his door, and he couldn't help himself.
- I'm really curious… How did you get your powers?
- I was actually born with them… At least under the yellow Sun.
- Yellow Sun?
- I'm from a planet named Krypton. We had a red Sun there, so I didn't have powers.
- So you're…
- An alien – Kara said not sure what to feel. People on her Earth where used to aliens but she didn't know if on his Earth was the same or if it was his first ever contact with one and it made her nervous.
What if she scares him? She kept wondering. He didn't seem to be a guy that scares easily, but you never know – She thought.
- That's cool. – He smiled, noticing she was a bit nervous touching that subject. – We don't have aliens on Earth 1, at least none we know of.
Kara smiled feeling like a heavy lift was taken off of her shoulders. They talked about how her planet exploded and how she ended up on Earth year later than her cousin, Superman and a bit about her life on her Earth as Kara Danvers and Supergirl.
- Just a question… You guys told me the Oliver Queen of this Earth died… Was he anything like me? Physically? Barry told me once about visiting a different Earth and how weird it was that everyone there were doppelgangers of people he knew and how hard it was to remember that they weren't the same… I was wondering if anyone saw me or something, if his family wouldn't find weird… I mean… I know I would feel really weird if I saw doppelgangers of my mom for example…
- Oh…Well, when you got here, you were in pretty bad shape, don't get me wrong, your face was covered in blood, so there wasn't any risk of people recognizing you, I think. And… This is how he looked like when he disappeared – Kara said as she grabbed her phone and searched for a picture of her Earth's Oliver Queen online.
Oliver held her phone and stared in shock. It was really weird to see someone with his face from years ago, so young, his hair a bit longer, the same look and smile he had before the accident.
- He looks exactly how I looked before the accident.
Kara stared at him with curiosity. She understood the multiverse concept but it was a whole different thing to actually see it.
- Accident? Like his?
- We have the same back story, at least that part, except that I survived and my dad was the one who died. I spent 5 years away until I got back home that was 3 years ago.
- Oh! – Kara stared at her phone and then at Oliver. – This is… Incredible. You spent the exact same time lost as Robert Queen did here, 5 years. 3 years ago he came back… Alex told me that when they helped you, she noticed you had a lot of scars besides the new wounds… I jut can't imagine what you've been through all these years, and the fact that you just had been through something so awful and almost lost your life…
- They say is a miracle I'm alive…
- It is. – Kara adjusted on the couch and turned the TV off, fully turning to face Oliver. – It's ok if you don't feel like talking about what happened by the way, I would totally understand it… But, you told us how you fought this guy and fell to your death, how did it happen?
Oliver was usually the kind of man who took a lot to trust someone, and let someone in, to talk about his life and his past and the things he had to face to keep his city safe. He recently had heartbreak, so he learned pretty fast that even if sometimes it felt like he could trust people and share about his life, people still would misunderstand or judge, or try to tell him how wrong he was. It happened recently with Felicity, the person he thought he could have a relationship with until she was attacked because of him, and he decided it was better for them to stay just friends. He saw her move on with Ray Palmer, it really hurt, then he learned she still had feelings for him deep down but it didn't matter because he was always making some hard decisions that put his life or other's in danger and she couldn't keep watching him do it and say nothing. He tried to make her understand that there was no other way, like for example with Ra's. He couldn't just run from that fight; it was Thea's life on the line.
By what Kara told him, about her life, how she ended up on Earth and how she recently started her super hero life and everything crazy that happened and everything she had to face, he could feel she was someone who completely understood him, because they were almost in the same situation: keeping a big secret from their loved ones to protect them, while doing their best to save their worlds. He felt something he never felt before and it was really weird for him, but in a good way. It was indeed refreshing to be able to talk about stuff like this with someone from the outside of his world, literally.
- It's a really long story and someday I might share the details, otherwise I'll keep talking for weeks – He teased, making Kara laugh. – But… On my Earth there's this group called the League of Assassins…
- League of Assassins? What a… Chill name- Kara said, knowing by Oliver's face it was serious.
- Yes. They are an ancient group of deadly warriors, but they have a code of honor.
- That's a first – Kara said – Assassins with honor…
- I thought the same when I met them. But is true. They have rules and laws, and whoever breaks them, pays with their life. A friend of mine who was on my team of vigilantes, Sara, she was a former member of this League. She was killed recently and Ra's demanded the head of whoever did it. My half sister, Thea, she was drugged by her own biological father, who's also a former member of this league, to kill my friend so he could film it and bribe me into challenging Ra's by combat.
- What? – Kara looked horrified – How does a father do that to his own daughter?
- Malcolm is a sick psychopath.
- And why did he do it?
- He was hoping I would challenge Ra's and kill him, so he would be free. When he left the League, he left under the promise of not breaking any League rule, but 2 years ago he tried to destroy a neighborhood in my city and his son, my best friend, died there. The League found out and went for his head, so he needed my help to save his life, but he knew I wouldn't, so he did it all to make me chose. I could help him or he would show the video to Ra's.
Kara looked completed horrified as the story just got worse. What kind of dad could not just drug his daughter to kill someone, but tape her to induce her brother to help him and risk exposing, and probably getting his own daughter killed, just to save himself? Parents were supposed to protect their kids, not use them like this, she thought. She felt really bad for Oliver's sister, for having such a horrible megalomaniac father.
- This is so awful…
- So I had to do it. I had to challenge Ra's. I couldn't let that psycho put my sister's life in danger.
- Can I ask you something?
- Sure
Kara didn't know how to put her curiosity into words without sounding rude or something, but after hearing just a part of his story, and seeing him speaking yes, with anger about it, but so naturally, she had to ask. Because he seemed like someone who had a lot of demons he had to live with, and she really wanted to understand more.
- Have you ever… killed someone before?
- Yes.
Kara nodded with her head.
- One thing about me Kara, is that I'm no saint. When I was lost for those 5 years, a lot happened. I had to do a lot of things I didn't want just to survive. I left an idiot playboy who was cheating on his girlfriend with her sister and I came back a whole different person. I was a jerk before yes, but seeing your father tell you he has done awful things and he needed you to survive to right his wrongs, kill the crew member and kill himself in front of you, it changes things…
They both kept quiet for a while. Kara was trying to process the information, because it was a lot, and he wasn't even giving her all details, but she could tell there was a lot of heavy painful stuff. But she could understand. She could see a guy, a human being who had to go through a lot of things and do a lot to protect the people he loved, and by the way he told her before how he wasn't sure if he was indeed a hero, she could tell he had a lot he hasn't dealt with deep inside.
- I became a vigilante to do what my father asked me to. But I used to do things the wrong way. I killed a lot of criminals, because I thought there was no other way until I had to tell my friend about me, and he called me a murderer. Before dying, he told me he didn't see me as a murderer anymore, but as a hero. So after that, I decided to honor him, and I found another way. I confess I try my best to keep it that way, but with Ra's, there was no other way. It was either him, or me, because I had to protect Thea. I knew Malcolm was going to fulfill his promise and he didn't care if Thea was going to die, so I had to do something.
- Oliver… I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that… No wonder you have so many scars…
- I collected a lot of them…
- I meant on the inside.
Oliver stared at Kara, lost of words. He felt like she could see under his soul and the most amazing thing is that she wasn't repulsed, or scared… He saw compassion and understanding in her eyes. He was definitely not used to that.
- Everything that happens with us leaves marks. I have mine on the inside and they hurt from time to time. When I saw Krypton exploding, knowing my parents wouldn't be able to save themselves or anyone I knew back home, it shattered my heart. When I got to Earth, learned that I had powers and that I had to hide who I was, it made me feel terrible, and a lot of things happened, that I couldn't do anything, I couldn't help. I've lost people too and it was terrible, because I was starting to feel attached to people here, you know? My first boyfriend… He died and I couldn't save him. I kept so many things hidden deep inside of me that one day I exploded. I did awful things, I showed everyone my worst side and after everything went back to normal, I knew everything I've done, everyone I hurt… I knew I had those feelings deep inside and things could've gone wrong really quickly so many times. We can't let our scars define us. You're not a saint, Oliver, but no one is. I think is really important that you took your friend's words by heart and it helped you become a better person, a hero. I don't know all the details, but I can tell you've gone through a lot and the fact that you still care about those things, about making your world a better place and protecting people, it matters.
- Thank you. – Oliver smiled and felt really touched by Kara's words – Not everyone understand it…
- I know. And it sucks. – Kara laughed, making him laugh too.
For the first time in a long time, Kara felt something different by talking about her life, her past. She felt understood, seen.
