Isobel was hungry, but she was also very nauseous due to her headache from being hungover. She took the Tylenol that was on her night stand hoping it would work quickly. Unfortunately she did end up throwing up. After that, she just went back to her bed to try and sleep. She was only able to sleep for about half an hour before waking up again. This time her headache was almost gone. Feeling better, she went down to her kitchen and decided to make chicken and waffles. As she was eating, the doorbell rang. She wasn't expecting anyone, so she grabbed one of her guns that was nearby. She walked over to the door and looked through the peep hole. She saw that it was Maggie, so she quickly put her gun back to where it was and then rushed back to open the door. "Shouldn't you be at work?" Isobel asked.
"Shouldn't you? What the hell happened to you last night?" Maggie asked.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Isobel said.
"Bull fucking shit, Isobel. We all were dancing, and then you just disappeared. I was going to sneak you away so we could have our dance but couldn't find you. I asked everyone if they knew where you were, but they had no idea." Maggie said.
"If you must know, I was at the bar." Isobel said.
"For what reason?" Maggie asked.
"Uh, probably to drink a shit ton of alcohol. You know, the only reason one goes to the bar?" Isobel said.
"Why were you drinking a lot of alcohol?" Maggie asked.
"Because, Maggie! I couldn't handle watching you dance and have a great time with OA anymore. So I left and went to the only place that could make me feel better." Isobel said with tears starting to form in her eyes.
"Why is that the only place that makes you feel better?" Maggie asked.
"Because it makes me forget in the moment." Isobel said.
"Why do you need to forget? It's just OA." Maggie said.
"Because I can't help but feel like if you were to cheat on me, it would be with him. And seeing you two last night having the time of your life only solidified that thought." Isobel said.
"Okay, I would NEVER cheat on you! And OA is more like a brother to me." Maggie said.
"Yeah, well, it doesn't help that he's completely fallen in love with you and used last night to his advantage knowing that I wouldn't have been able to practically be near you with everyone around! Also, why wouldn't you? Everyone I have dated cheated on me, so what's stopping you?" Isobel asked.
"Because I love you, and I don't see myself with anyone else! Why can't you see that?" Maggie asked.
"Maybe it's due to the fact that literally no one has pictured me as being their wife in the future, so I don't see how you're any different." Isobel said. That stabbed Maggie right in the heart.
"Woooow. So after treating you like you should be treated and willing to throw away my career just for us to be together, it still isn't enough to prove that I love you and you only?" Maggie asked.
"Have you ever been cheated on before?" Isobel asked.
"Yeah. Once." Maggie said.
"Exactly. You don't know how it feels when every single person you date ends up cheating on you. It fucks you up in the head, and now that's all I ever expect. That's all I ever know a relationship to ever be. And our relationship feels too good to be true. So sorry for feeling the way I do." Isobel said.
"So when someone actually loves you, you end up pushing them away." Maggie said, tears starting to fall from her eyes.
"I'm not-"
"That's what it feels like! You know what, I think we should take a break. This, hiding our relationship, isn't good for us, and we obviously have a lot of things to figure out before we even consider continuing this." Maggie said.
"Mags-"
"Goodbye Isobel." Maggie said and walked out.
~two weeks later~
It's been two weeks since Maggie suggested her and Isobel take a break, and they both were wrecks. Maggie tried to play that she was happy at work, but everyone started noticing that she was faking it. They all knew something was up the first day Isobel returned to work. Her eyes were puffy, and she just looked depressed overall.
When Vargas broke out of prison, Isobel started putting a lot of pressure on herself to catch him. A lot more pressure than usual. And then she was being stalked. The team knew it was Vargas, so they did everything to protect her. Then he broke into a random store and held hostages. His only request was to bring Isobel inside. "No. There is no way we're sending Isobel inside." Maggie said.
"It's our only way out of this." OA said.
"If we send her inside, he's going to kill her! There's gotta be another way around this!" Maggie said.
"She's right. Have we looked at all of the entries?" Jubal asked.
"Yes. He has men posted at each of them." Elise said.
"Okay what if we-" Jubal stopped mid sentence as he noticed Isobel walking towards the front door of the restaurant.
"Isobel, what are you doing? Isobel. Isobel! Let me go! Isobel!" Maggie screamed. OA and Jubal were holding her back as she tried to run after Isobel to stop her from going inside the restaurant. When Isobel was inside, Maggie turned to Jubal cried on his shoulder. She knew what was about to happen. Within minutes, one gunshot was fired. And then another one. And then one final one. After the third one, Maggie ran into the building straight to Isobel. She was lying on the floor bleeding out. There was one bullet hole in her thigh, one in her stomach, and one in her right shoulder.
"Maggie, please...leave." Isobel said softly.
"No! I'm not leaving your side. Jubal I need you in here while we wait for paramedics." Maggie said into her mic.
"Go. Find...him." Isobel said. She was shaking and sweating.
"I don't care about him! All I care about right now is you," Maggie said. Jubal walked in and held pressure to the wound on Isobel's shoulder as Maggie held pressure on the other two wounds. Isobel groaned in pain as they did and started hyperventilating. "Baby, I need you to breathe, okay? Look at me. In. And out." Maggie said. Isobel focused on Maggie, and her breathing started to be controlled again. However she started getting lightheaded.
"I love you, Maggie." Isobel whispered, and eventually her world went black. Maggie checked for a pulse, but she didn't have one.
"No, no, no please don't die. Please don't die." Maggie cried. Maggie started giving Isobel CPR right before the paramedics showed up. They quickly put her onto the stretcher and continued CPR as they rolled her to the ambulance.
"I'm sorry, you can't come with her." a paramedic said.
"I'm her girlfriend." Maggie said with a look that could kill. He nodded and allowed her to get on. Isobel was in very critical condition and even flatlined once again on the ambulance right as they got to the hospital. The paramedic moved on top of her to do CPR as the other one brought her out and through the doors. As the paramedic brought the doctors up to date, he was still doing CPR. That is until her heart started beating again just before they reached the doors to the OR.
"I'm sorry, but you can't go back there." one of the nurses said to Maggie. Maggie stopped and turned around to go back to the entrance.
"I can take you to the bathroom so you can get cleaned up." a nurse said. Maggie nodded her head and followed the nurse to the bathroom. Maggie turned on the water and washed off Isobel's blood from her hands. As she watched the bloody water run into the drain, Maggie started crying. She could hear someone with heels approaching, so she quickly dried her hands and wiped away her tears. She walked out and went to the waiting room. Jubal messaged Maggie telling her that they had Vargas in custody. She was glad she wasn't there because if she was, she probably would've shot him immediately to get revenge for what he did to Isobel.
Maggie has been waiting for hours with no updates or anything. She kept pacing back and forth, sitting down, standing up, and repeat. She hasn't eaten anything. She felt too sick to her stomach to even try. "Are you here for an Isobel Castille?" Isobel's surgeon asked. Maggie looked up and quickly walked to him.
"I am. Please tell me she made it." Maggie said.
"She did. Barely, but she did. We retrieved all three bullets from her. She lost a significant amount of blood, so we had to give her a blood transfusion. She's very lucky. I would call it a miracle. Now, she is still in critical condition, so these next 24 hours are going to be crucial for her recovery. With that being said, I will show you to her room." he said and led Maggie to Isobel's room. As soon as Maggie walked in, the surgeon left.
"God, Isobel, what the hell were you thinking? You really scared me. I thought I was going to lose you." Maggie said, taking hold of Isobel's hand. Tears started flowing down her face as well. Maggie figured she would let the team know that Isobel was out of surgery, so she took her phone out and messaged Jubal. After messaging him, Maggie pulled up a chair right next to Isobel and sat there while holding her hand. Eventually, she laid her head down onto the bed and fell asleep still holding Isobel's hand.
