Chapter 2 – The Vigilante
A few days passed since Kara took Oliver in to help him recover. She got up early one day, in her light blue pjs with a braided hair, and tried her best to make some breakfast, but she was really terrible in the kitchen and only managed to burn the pancakes. The kitchen was filled with smoke and Kara used her powers to make them go away faster.
- Whoa, what happened? – Oliver asked, noticing Kara struggling.
- I tried to be a nice host and make some pancakes, but it backfired… - She laughed, making Oliver laugh too.
- Oh, you didn't have to – Oliver said – You are naturally nice, and let me stay with you, so…
- Thank you – Kara smiled – Well, I guess I can just go and grab some food…
- Oh, no need for that. Let me return the favor, by making breakfast.
- Do you cook? – Kara looked surprised at him
- Yes. People usually like my food, so is safe – He teased – Just tell me where everything is and I'll do the rest.
Kara showed him everything and just watched him do his magic on the kitchen. He seemed to be a bit better and in less pain, so it was a good thing. She kept staring at him with curiosity in her eyes, and Oliver noticed.
- Is everything ok? – He asked
- Yes, I'm sorry… - She laughed, nervously – Is just that… I don't know a lot of vigilantes, I mean, my cousin is friends with one, but I never got to meet one. I'm just curious… What is it like?
- Is insanely dangerous, it requires a lot of focus, cold blood and a lot of training. Is not easy but… I love it. I don't think I ever said that to anyone before, but… I felt a lot of guilt by everything my dad did, and at first, it felt like I had this responsibility to make things right but then I realized it was so much more than that. My city needed me and my team, to keep fighting for justice and making our hometown a better place. I think you know the feeling – He smiled back at her as he kept cooking.
- Yes, I do. There's nothing like it. For me, I feel this way when I'm flying. I can see the entire city, feel the wind… Is peaceful.
- What other powers you have? – He was a bit unsure if he should ask this, but his curiosity took the best of him.
- I can fly, I have super strength, super speed, super hearing, x-ray vision, heat vision, freeze breath – She said as she thought about it – I'm bulletproof…
- Bulletproof? That must be cool – He said as he looked in awe to her – Because bullet wounds are not fun.
Oliver finished preparing their breakfast and they sat down to eat.
- I also can eat a lot, if you know what I mean, so I'm really happy with this breakfast. – She said as she tried his food, feeling like she could just float from happiness because it was a delicious food. – Ok, you're really good in the kitchen.
- Thanks – Oliver laughed, starting to eat too.
He couldn't help but noticing how talking to Kara made him feel so relaxed and chill, things he could never even think it was possible before given the fact that it took so long for him to trust people and let them in. Being stranded on another Earth and almost dying, being saved by a beautiful and sweet alien put some things into perspective for him. The little time he spent on her Earth, he could see how she was always focused on saving and helping people, how she always fought for what she thought it was right, how she was always sweet and kind to everyone. She reminded him a lot of Barry and it made him feel warmth inside, knowing there was good people out there willing to be super heroes, and give everything in them to make sure other people were safe. He knew this life wasn't easy and how it demanded a few sacrifices from someone and it amazed him that in a few days he spent at the DEO, he saw Kara jump into dangerous missions and still smile and be positive about things, because he could never.
- And how are you feeling today? – Kara asked as she finished eating, drinking orange juice – I mean, everything still hurts?
- I'm feeling way better, thank you.
- You heal fast for someone that doesn't have super powers…
- I'm used to it. Back in the island I had to learn how to stitch myself and take care of wounds… There was always some new danger lurking, so I couldn't just rest and wait to get better every time something bad happened… When you deal with a lot of pain, you become resistant to it… It makes easier to heal.
Kara's phone started to buzz and she opened Alex text. As she read it, Oliver started to help her do the dishes and clean the table.
- Its ok, I can do that later. – She said getting up – I need to go to the DEO now, Alex texted me, they need Supergirl.
- Can I come?
- Sure – Kara said, surprised – Are you feeling ok to go outside?
- I kind of need it. I spent way too much time on the bed, recovering. – He teased, making her laugh.
- Ok, let me just change and then… Clark left some clothes in the closet, you can borrow it… Maybe we can go out later and I can help you pick some clothes. We don't know how long it will take for them to find a way to get you back home; you can't keep wearing the same clothes…
- There's no need for it, its ok…
- I insist… And it's ok, someday I can visit your Earth, you can buy me a pizza and we call it even – She teased.
Oliver was also experiencing something for the first time being around Kara that much, he noticed. Back home he was always worried, looking over his shoulder and needing to terrorize people all the time, there was not much time to chill and for laughter. He was in a bad situation but in a good company, he felt.
Kara approached Oliver and looked a bit nervous at him.
- It's faster if we fly there…
- Really?
- Yes.
- Oh… ok – Oliver said, knowing he didn't have a choice.
Once they got to the DEO, Winn brief her about what was happening.
- What's wrong? – Kara asked as Winn turned on his chair and got up, walking to the table in the center of the room.
There was a computer screen on the table and Winn kept typing while showing Kara some files and important information.
- We have a situation with two former Lex Luthor minions; they are after some tech Lex left hidden before going to prison…
- It must be dangerous, we need to stop them, just tell me where they are – Kara said ready to face whoever they were.
- Just a small problem… We also have an alien problem downtown… Another prisoner from Fort Rozz and General Lane wants you to go see him. He had a problem with his project Red Tornado and wants you to fix it.
- Of course he does… Well, tell him I can't, I'm busy.
- He asked to tell you there's literally no way for you to decline helping him, otherwise he will do everything in his power to shut us down and put you in some lab.
- What a douche – Oliver said
- Agreed – Winn said as he looked at Kara, noticing she was really mad about hearing that.
- And J'onn? Alex? I could use some help…
- J'onn had to go talk to the president and Alex is on a mission with that cop friend of hers, so…
- I can help – Oliver said as he crossed his arms.
- What? No. You're not 100% recovered yet, its too dangerous – Kara said
Oliver stared at Kara after looking around, realizing that probably those agents didn't know her true identity, so it was better to keep it that way, just in case.
- Supergirl, I told you this morning that I feel a lot better… Trust me, I can help you.
- I really don't want to put you in more danger…
- And you won't. I'm offering. – He said – I know you're fast, but you can deal with all of those things at the same time by yourself. Let me help. Listen…- He took a few steps closer to her, noticing the worry in her face – Back on my Earth, those days I was away from home, remember I told you I had to do a lot of things I'm not proud about?
- Yes.
- Well, In most of those times I had fought really bad people, I was tortured, stabbed, shot many times I can count, and all of those times, I had to stand up and get the job done otherwise I wouldn't be here now talking to you.
- Maybe he could help… I don't know, with Lex minions? They aren't aliens or anything so… - Winn suggested, being interrupted by a really worried Kara.
- Lex had really dangerous allies.
- I guess this is a good time to mention I'm a member of the Bratva – He looked serious, noticing the change in Winn and Kara's faces – And by the way you're staring at me, you have them here too.
- Y.. yes – Winn said, still in shock. – Badass.
- I can take care of myself. I appreciate your worries, but you don't have to. You've done a lot to help me, let me do this and help you.
Kara stared from Winn to Oliver and nodded with her head. She indeed had no idea about everything in Oliver's past and as much as she worried, she had to admit he was right. He was a hero on his Earth; he had been through a lot and apparently was really good at surviving, so she decided to put her worries aside just for once.
- Ok. But please, take this – She said as she grabbed a pair of comms – Winn will be your eyes and ears – She turned to Winn – Please assist him while I go deal with the other problems…
- Ok – Oliver nodded, putting his comms on.
- Just one thing… - Kara lifted her hand as she took a lot at Oliver - You can go out there in civilian clothes…
- It's a good thing I think about everything – Winn said, looking guilty of something as he stared from Kara to Oliver.
- What did you do? – Kara asked
- I just thought that maybe, given the fact that our new friend here is a super hero on his Earth, he would like to maybe go out there and help us, in case it took a long time for him to go back home… So… Follow me.
Winn took Kara and Oliver to a room full of gadgets and stuff Winn said he was working on, to improve agents gear and suits. He was also working on something for Alex, but he wanted to surprise her.
- I made this… - Winn said as he opened a suitcase and showed Oliver a cool hooded suit with different shades of green and small details in gold, a few parts that looked like armor but Winn explained they were comfortable and meant to protect crucial parts, a matching green mask and the coolest bow and bunch of arrows Oliver has ever seen.
- Wow, this is… really cool – Oliver said as he examined everything
- The arrows, they are not just regular arrows; they do some really cool stuff too.
Oliver examined one by one as Winn explained what they did and Oliver smiled. Kara stared curious at him.
- I did the same thing with my arrows back home. I call them tricky arrows. – Oliver explained – They are really useful, especially to get out of situations.- He patted Winn on the shoulders – Well done!
Winn smiled, satisfied and went back to his station, to prepare to help Oliver with the missions. Kara turned to face Oliver, looking at the suit.
- I guess this is it, then… Suit up – She smiled – I'll wait outside.
Kara and Winn waited for Oliver and as soon as he showed up, Kara just stared in awe.
- This…looks great – She said, staring at all the details in Oliver's new temporary Green Arrow suit. – Green is definitely your color – She said, slightly blushing
Yes, he looked really good in that suit, but she tried not to think about it that much since they have to focus on the three missions they would have to go to.
- Thank you. – He smiled back to her, noticing there was something different in her eyes, but it wasn't the time to think about that.
- So… We should get going – She said smiling awkwardly, noticing the weird look Winn were giving them.
- Stay on comms, follow my instructions and everything will be just fine – Winn said, noticing the vibe between them.
Oliver borrowed a bike from the DEO and drove to the place Winn told him to go, and thanks to the GPS, he didn't get lost. It was an entire new world after all.
- Listen, you need to be careful, I just hacked into their security cameras, and there are more people than we anticipated inside.
Oliver heard Winn giving him instructions on how to proceed and asking him to wait for some DEO backup, but there was no time for it. He went to the alley, on the side of the building and climbed the fire staircase to the roof. As soon as he got there, he went to the fire exit door and cautiously opened it, going inside.
- Oh… ok, he's going inside – Winn commented, feeling a bit tense.
- What's the situation? – Oliver asked
- There are 5 people on your floor, 7 people 2 floors beneath you, 10 in the 2nd floor and 6 on the garage. Oliver, you can't face them all by yourself, wait for the backup, I'm seeing here who can…
- There's no time! Don't worry, I got this!
Winn manage to hack the camera from inside the building just in time to see Oliver fighting 5 people at the same time. It was insane to see it. Oliver used one of the trick arrows to tie 2 people at the same time, deflected a punch just in time to knock the guy down, used the bow on his hand to hit the other guy by his side on his head and shot an arrow to the knee of the last one.
- You need to go faster, there are 3 people on the hallway of the 3rd floor and I just hacked another camera and saw them going inside a secret passage inside the library. Is the black door.
- I don't have super speed, Winn; I'm doing my best here.- He said as he reached the floor beneath him, rushing to fight 7 people at once.
- Ok… this is some serious ass kicking – Winn murmured as some other DEO agents gathered around him, watching what was happening.
Oliver moved really fast, with deadly moves as he shot arrows and knocked people down.
- They aren't… - Winn was a bit afraid of asking at this point
- Dead? No! – Oliver said as he shot a guy in his shoulder with a tranquilizer arrow, making him drop to the floor unconscious. – Some of them will wake up in a few hours.
Oliver was about to reach the 3rd floor when a guy tried to come upstairs to knocking him down, but Oliver acted fast, giving a strong kick on the guy's chest, making him roll back downstairs. He turned around fast, shooting an explosive arrow near 2 guys coming at him and he took advantage of the smoke to go to the black door. As soon as he opened, he saw the entrance of the secret room open.
- Well, those people seem to be not that smart… - He said as he rushed inside, finding the 3 people ready to leave with a big suitcase on one of their hands. – You'll hand this over to me right now, and I let you keep your hands – He threatened in a strong and aggressive voice, making even Winn jump from his seat.
- I don't think so – One of the guys said
- Who are you? – The woman with them asked – I've never seen you before… And where's Supergirl? I was counting on her to show up – She said, showing a piece of green rock in her hands.
- She's busy. And I'm not from around! – He said, moving fast, shooting an arrow on her hand, making her drop the rock.
He jumped to grab the rock and kicked the tree of them in a single spin, shooting an arrow on each of their knees. They yelled in pain and Oliver grabbed the suitcase and rushed out.
- He is insane! – Winn said, almost destroying his nails from biting them.
- Winn, what's happening? – Kara said as she landed back at the DEO.
- Oliver… He…
- He is alone? – She said as she stared at the screen – Why there's no backup with him? He is still injured!
- I told him to wait for backup but he told me there was no time and fought 12 people alone, took down the 3 of the Lex minions and now is fighting more people on his way to the rooftop. And OH MY GOD, HE'LL JUMP 14 FLOORS!
Oliver knew all of the remaining people there would be at the entrance, blocking his way out and as much as he felt like he could take them all out, he didn't want to push his luck because his abs were starting to ache again and that annoying pain, he could feel it coming back. He rushed to the rooftop and found 3 people there. Oliver shot an exploding arrow on them and jumped to the platforms of the fire staircase, one at the time.
- Green Arrow!
He heard a familiar voice and turned around just to see Supergirl landing next to him. She had a deeply worried face. He turned his comms off.
- Why didn't you wait for back up? Winn almost had a heart attack now, seeing you jump…
- I guess there's no view of the fire staircase on the camera he hacked… - He took a few steps closer – Here's the tech they were stealing. – He gave her the suitcase. – I'm sorry, but I couldn't wait. They wouldn't get here in time…
- You risked your life…
- Nothing I've never done before… Listen, I appreciate your concern, but I've been through worse. – He said – Believe me, if Winn could have seen me before, he would definitely have a heart attack. I'm ok, and the tech is safe now.
Kara nodded with her head and held the suitcase on her hands. She tried her best to remember that she actually didn't know him and she couldn't just judge, even if she worried about him, because he was right. She didn't know what he had been through, he only told her the surface and she had a feeling it had way more, so if he told her he could handle, and that he was ok, she would believe him. Maybe someday he would be more comfortable to share more about his life.
- I guess we should bring this back to the DEO…
- I would accept a ride, but the bike is borrowed, I need to bring it back, Winn told me Alex would kill me if something happened to it.
- Oh, she totally would – She laughed. – Ok, I'll see you there.
She held the suitcase on her hands and flew back to the DEO. Oliver jumped back on the bike and did the same.
- YOU LUNATIC! – Winn yelled as he ran towards Oliver, giving him a hug.
Oliver slowly patted his back, looking a bit annoyed.
- You're alive! – Winn said in relief.
- Yes... – Oliver said – It's ok Winn… I'm used to it.
- I'm sorry – Winn let go of the hug - but I'm not used to see this… How does your team do it?
- The important thing is that we recovered the tech… and – Oliver turned to Kara – How was your mission? I'm sorry I didn't ask before…
- It's ok – She smiled – The alien is on our other facility and will live in a cell now and General Lane… - She said with her hands on her waist – He's unbelievable! I told him I was done dealing with Red Tornado, and he told me it had a problem and wanted me to fix. Me! – She crossed her arms – That thing seemed like it was possessed or something… I fought it and destroyed it for good. He took the pieces of the robot for analysis but… I don't trust him. I can't help the feeling he's up to something.
- But are you feeling ok? – Oliver asked – You seem a bit off.
- Yeah, I'm just… mentally tired. Nothing that food and a shower and a good musical can't fix – She smiled, excitedly – It's movie night! Want to join me?
- I'm there anyways, why not? – Oliver said, laughing at her enthusiasm.
- I need to stop at CatCo first, I need to finish this article for my boss, I meet you outside in an hour. – She said, rushing to change back into Kara Danvers and go finish some stuff at work.
Oliver smiled and turned around just to see Winn staring at him with a weird look.
- I told you things would be fine… - Oliver said leaving to change back into his borrowed clothes so he could wait for Kara.
As he waited he noticed Winn tense as he got a call from Alex.
- Is everything ok? – Oliver asked
- Alex needs backup. Her friend Maggie got hurt, she was shot and the few cops that were with them, 2 are dead and 3 are injured. The criminals they were chasing escaped. I'll call Kara.
- I can help, tell me where they are, I'll meet Kara there.
- They are downtown, near the station…
Winn barely had any time to finish as Oliver ran outside and jumped again in the bike, following the GPS to find the exact location. He drove around the perimeter, to check if there were no hidden surprises or anything else they would have to deal with, just in case.
Meanwhile, Kara got there in her Supergirl suit, rushing towards Alex and Maggie in a hurry.
- Winn told me… Are you ok? What happened?
- Maggie got shot, she needs help.
- I'll take her to the DEO, don't worry.
Alex watched Kara fly fast away with Maggie on her arms. She got up and saw a hooded guy in green, park her bike next to where she was.
- I see you like your new suit – Alex said
- Its cool – Oliver said looking around – Are you ok?
- Just with a few bruises.
- And your friend?
- Kara took Maggie to the DEO. I'm really worried about her; the bullet went pretty deep…
- You guys saved me after I was almost dying, I'm sure Maggie will be ok.
Oliver heard something weird and turned his head to the side, paying attention to their surroundings. He moved fast, reaching for his bow and grabbed an arrow on his quiver.
- Get down! – He said as a guy from across the street tried to shoot Alex. She threw herself in the ground, escaping the bullet, grabbed her gun and was about to shoot when Oliver acted on instinct and hit the guy in his hip. He shot another arrow, a tricky one and locked the guy, as he got tied from neck to toe and fell to the ground.
- Nice reflexes! – Alex said still in awe because she never had seen someone that had no powers with reflexes that fast.
- Being Bratva for an entire year in Russia does that to you…- He smiled as they both stared at the guy on the floor.
Alex walked towards the guy as Kara flew back.
- How's Maggie? – Alex said as she hugged Kara.
- She is ok; they managed to take the bullet off. She had some stitches and is feeling a bit of pain, but she's ok.
Alex left out a breath she had no idea she was holding. She stared at Oliver, who nodded with his head.
- I told you. – He said.
- And who's this guy? – Kara asked
- Tried to shoot us. – Alex said.
- Are you ok? Did he hurt you? – Kara scanned Alex to check if she didn't have any injuries.
- I'm ok, your friend acted fast.
- Oh, look at that. – Kara said as she smiled at Oliver – Thanks for that.
- Keep it up and you'll be promoted to my friend too – Alex teased, making Kara and Oliver laugh.
More police cars came in a few minutes and Alex spoke to them. As soon as everything was solved, the guy was arrested and Kara was more than ready to go home.
- Are you coming too? – Kara asked – Movies and pizza, it will be fun.
- I'll visit Maggie at the DEO now; see how she's doing… Maybe later – Alex smiled – Thanks again, Oliver.
- You're welcome. – He waved as Alex left.
- And now there are two… - Kara teased, making Oliver laugh.
Oliver offered to make pizzas instead of ordering, and Kara decided to help him this time so they were back at her kitchen, working on it.
- Maybe I can improve my skills now I have a private teacher – Kara teased, making Oliver laugh.
- I believe in you – He teased back
- I have to tell you, I've never seen Winn so horrified before like he was today – Kara commented – How does you team deal with the Green Arrow?
- I wish I could say there are used to it, but I have the feeling they're not – He said – Before I left to challenge Ra's, they kept telling me not to go, that I could die…
- They were kind of right… - Kara said, noticing the look Oliver gave her. –I'm sorry, I mean… I don't know what I would do if anyone I cared about told me they were leaving to fight some assassin lunatic. I think I would be the first to try and stop them. You did almost die, Oliver.
- I know. And I get it. But when you don't have another option, you just have to go and do it. You have no idea what much of a psychopath Thea's father is. He would do it. I would lose her.
- By everything you told me, I don't doubt that. Is just that… I understand your team. When my parents put me in my pod and told me to watch over my cousin, that we would have to be strong and go to another planet, when I realized they weren't coming, that they would die and there's nothing else we could do, it hurt so badly. It still hurts. And I did understand. I knew there was nothing else we could do. But to watch the planet exploding, knowing it all… It still hurt.
- I'm sorry you had to go through that.
- Just… Think about how your team felt when you told them you were leaving and they knew you could die, and they couldn't help or do anything to change it.
- I guess I never thought about things like that… I still struggle sometimes with the fact that I don't work alone anymore…
- Anymore?
- Yes. When I began, it was just me. Then, I needed help, I recruited Diggle. Later that year, Felicity joined the team. It was the three of us for a while… Then Sara came back, and joined for a while… Thea's boyfriend, Roy, needed help after being injected with a drug that changed him… We became this big team of vigilantes.
- Sara is your team mate that died, right? – Kara said, noticing the change in Oliver's voice.
- Yes… She was also someone I had… something with.
- I'm really sorry for your lost.
- I appreciate it – Oliver said
As they finished making the pizzas, getting them ready to go on the oven, Oliver took a deep breath as he washed his hands after Kara. They went to the living room and sat on the couch.
- And… Felicity, is she a vigilante too?
- No, she is our eyes and ears in missions, is really smart and knows everything about technology and anything else you can imagine…
- I have the feeling Winn would be best friends with her, somehow.
- Oh, they would be. – Oliver laughed.
Kara noticed the look in Oliver's eyes and once again, the curiosity took the best of her.
- Is she your… ?
- Felicity? Oh, no… I mean… It's complicated. – He thought about what to say because he didn't have time to process and figure it out yet. – We were really good friends, we saw some sparks, went on a date and everything went south.
- Oh…
- I was targeted as the Green Arrow, we were in this restaurant, she got hurt…
- And you thought it was better if you stayed friends because she would be safer and this love thing can't work if you're a superhero at the same time?
Oliver stared at Kara in awe because that was exactly what he was going to say.
- Do you also read minds? – He asked with genuine worry.
- No – Kara laughed – I've just been there.
- Really? – Now Oliver was surprised.
- Yes. Not that he was in danger or anything like that… I just felt like I couldn't balance being Supergirl and having a normal life. I was about to be promoted and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life… It was all so hard and overwhelming.
- Yes, it is… So I told her we should just stay friends. And then, she moved on and I kept asking myself if this was my destiny.
- Faded to see everyone getting their happy ending, but you… - Kara said and Oliver nodded.
- Yes.
They kept staring at each other and Oliver suddenly felt something he didn't felt for a long time. He felt understood and seen.
- Can I confess something?
- Sure – Kara said.
- I can't explain… But… It's refreshing to know someone gets it.
- I feel the same way. – Kara laughed, slightly blushing – I mean… I have amazing friends, my sister who I love so much… But not everyone understands the way I feel sometimes, and it's so hard to explain.
Oliver started to realize that's why he felt so light and relaxed around Kara. It was exactly because of that, because she knows what is like to live the kind of life he lives, not the same way, but still. Being the one who has to make the tough calls, the one who has to set an example and lead, knowing a lot of people counts on you and that feeling that it's up to you to keep everyone you love safe, knowing there's barely time to live a normal life.
- See? Now we can be miserable and lonely together – Kara teased opening her arms – C'mon… A hug – She laughed.
- I'm not a hugger – He said, shaking his head, trying not to laugh
- Oh, you are… Deep down you are… C'mon, misery loves company – She laughed, reaching for his hand and bringing him closer for a hug
Oliver just let her hug him, hugging her back because he knew he couldn't stop her even if he wanted to. And for the first time in a long time, he didn't. That hug felt really nice, he thought. They let go of the hug, facing each other.
- You told me horrible things happened to you… - He said, staring deeply into her eyes – How do you manage to be this positive, and cheerful?
- I just do. I can't let the bad things define who I am, people out there needs Supergirl and if I'm not positive, If I don't have hope, I can't help people believe that everything will be ok. If I don't believe it, no one will.
He just stared at her, taking in her words. He wish he could be like that, but he knew deep inside that was impossible because his world was so different from hers, and it showed him time and time again how dark and cruel it was.
- I wish I could believe the same… but is really hard when you see your city falling apart with violence and crime…
- You can't lose hope, Oliver – Kara said staring back at him – Is our best chance to go against it all. You could have died; somehow you're here, alive and well…
- Stranded on an Earth, with no idea how to go back home.
- Yes… But it could be worse. No one survives getting stabbed the way you were and falling from a cliff like you did.
- You're right… I'm just worried. Ra's is still there and the League.
- You need to trust your team and believe everything will be ok in the end… That's how you can heal faster and soon, we'll figure things out… And…When we do, I want to go there and help you bring this guy down.
Oliver stared at Kara not knowing what to say because she definitely caught him by surprise.
- You don't need to…
- I want to! – She said crossing her arms and smiling.
Oliver was finding it really hard to resist anything because of that smile of hers. It was contagious, he couldn't deny it.
- You've done a lot for me already, It's ok…
- I insist. – She said, determined. – We live in different universes but please, know; you can count on us, on me for anything.
- I appreciate it – He said, knowing he wouldn't win that argument.
- Even if is to be miserable together and eat our feelings away with pizza – She teased, making him smile.
- The pizza… Oh, it must be ready – Oliver went to check the oven and he was right.
A few more seconds and it would burn. He really got distracted, he thought.
- Two homemade cheese pizza coming your way… - He said, taking it to the table as Kara grabbed a piece.
- It's ok, I don't burn – She said, noticing the worried look he gave her.
- Of course you can't – He said, smiling.
Kara grabbed the plate with multiple pieces of pizza and brought it to the living room as they ate and watched musicals. Oliver usually wasn't a fan of it, but he found it really fun to watch Kara singing along and just being happy as she enjoyed her favorite musicals.
Kara left 3 pieces of pizza on the plate in the coffee table and sat back on the couch.
- Ok it was really good.
- Team work – He said as they high fived each other.
- Not that I'm happy you can't back home yet and showed up almost dying…- She turned to her side, to fully face him – But… - She looked down for a few seconds, taking her glasses off, suddenly feeling a new kind of nervousness inside - I'm glad to have you here – She left a soft smile out as she stared back at him.
It was true, she was. It felt really great to know someone who lived this same crazy life she chose to live, and who actually understood what it was like. She felt less alone in the world.
- I'm glad you found me – He stared deeply into her eyes – I'm pretty sure I would be really screwed if you haven't – He smiled back at her,
- I'm glad your wounds are healing – She said as she slightly touched the almost healed cuts on his cheeks with the tip of her fingers.

There was a switch in the air and Kara was sure she wasn't imagining it. She could see in his eyes what he meant because she was just the same. Inside, not everything was fully healed, some wounds were still open.
Oliver recognized the look Kara gave him, letting him know she knew. She knew what he was talking about and it filled his heart with warmth right away. They just stared at each other in silence, at least for Oliver because Kara could hear his heartbeat increasing by the second.
